Doug Martin, GMC Likely Out Tonight

Bucs RB Doug Martin will miss tonight’s game, says NFL.com.

One comes as a bit of a surprise. The other does not.

If one is to believe the words typed from the fingers of NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bucs will be down two of their brightest stars tonight when Tampa Bay faces the Dixie Chicks in Billy Sherman’s favorite southern city.

Martin will test his injured knee on the field before a final determination is made, according to two sources informed of the injury. Playing on the artificial surface at the Georgia Dome is another reason why the Bucs are leaning toward sitting their starting running back. It doesn’t hurt that the Bucs have a solid backup in Bobby Rainey, who gashed the Rams for 174 total yards last week.

McCoy’s absence goes back to the timing of his hand injury, a fracture that occurred just four days ago. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle said Wednesday that playing so soon after the injury presented increased risk.

Rapoport also reports that in GMC’s absence, Da’Quan Bowers will start. This isn’t really a shock because Bucs coach Lovie Smith have often said he likes Bowers’ quickness to be used inside and believes that quickness can be a mismatch for sluggish guards.

Of course, Rapoport ended his report with the following about Bowers, “who has failed to make an impact since joining Tampa Bay as a second-round pick in 2011.”

Never seen a DT sit out bc of a broken hand. Especially when facing an 0-3 start. They called Sapp to see how to play w a broken hand he said you have to have ‘want to’ desire. Call Michael Sam he might be tougher certainly can’t be any softer.

  2. bucrightoff Says:

Pass rush sucks with McCoy. Without? Yeesh Ryan is gonna have 3 weeks back there to pick apart the soft zone. Lovie better play very aggressive offensively tonight, don’t see the Falcons scoring less than 27 points.

    Optimistic Tackleblockwin

Someone else needs to breakout tonight (other than Rainey) on Offense to have a chance. Could this be the night we see Evans break 100 yards receiving…get his first NFL TD? Maybe this kid Herron can find some space and make a few big plays? And Bobby Rainy needs to pound away tonight. Would be nice to see him go back to back weeks with 100+ rushing yards. Let’s find a way to win this game Bucs! Thoughts of repeating an 0-8 start again need to be squashed…tonight.

    Realistic Tackleblockwin

Just don’t completly embarrass us tonight…that would be a win.

31-13 Falcons! Can’t wait to see who we take #1 overall in next years draft!

  5. Nick Says:

I will say it again and keep saying McCoy is no Warren Sapp, not even close so please stop !

Further, he clearly is no leader so stop that talk as well.

I laugh when I hear him say “My Team” what a joke !

Name one please. DT’s need to get both hands on people. You can’t do that with fricken club on your hand. A LB can. And, after only 4 days I’m sure banging it around on people will hurt like hell. Hey, but he should just man up huh. Knucklehead.

Uhm warren sapp!! Idiots joe we’re surrounded by idiots.

  8. ToesOnTheLine Says:

I set aside some of the top shelf kool aid for tonight…Bucs pull off the upset victory with Rainey rushing for 150+ yards and keeping Ryan off the field!

  9. RealityCheck Says:

BoJim McCoy could 100% play with a club on his hand and he should just man up. He makes millions of dollars to man up. Your sarcasm was a fail.

  10. Jason Says:

Just trade the “Muscle Dumpster” to Minnesota and be done with him. So tired of this guy not being able to play and sucking when he does. The best ability is availability. Goodbye Dougie Unfresh!!!

  11. DB55 Says:

    Reality

I broke my hand playing flag football n you couldn’t get me off the field. Buccing baggots!! Have they no passion for the game? Have they no pride?

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Sapp didn’t have to play with a broken hand on a Thursday game. Calling McCoy soft is so stupid, but I expect nothing less from some people. You probably call in sick at work with a runny nose.

  13. jb Says:

It’s pretty sad, when we’ve gotten to the point where a win isn’t as important as NOT embarrassing the Tampa Bay Area on national television…..just plain sad.

Actually Sapp missed one game from his broken hand. So cut GMC a break..its only been 4 days! Oh yeah and flag football is just as intense and physical as the NFL..smh

  15. pick6 Says:

i’m guessing if the game were not on a thursday both would be probable or close to it to start. let’s get the beating out of the way tonight and let some guys heal up for 10 days while the coaches figure out what they can do to resuscitate this turd of a season

  16. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t know what’s more pathetic : you calling a NFL player soft or you comparing your flag football league to the NFL.

  17. DB55 Says:

That my point. I don’t get paid to play flag football he does. I don’t have a whole city depending on me he does.

  18. OB Says:

    Joe

I would hold them both out of the game. GMC because trying to play four days after the break is stupid for the long run. Martin because Rainey is doing superb.

We play 18, hopefully, plus games and this one doesn’t matter for them to try playing hurt when we have adequate reserves, if it would have been a week, then maybe a different matter.

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You also don’t play football for a living. Pretty sure your flag football league isn’t quite as tough as the trenches of the NFL. You can’t play at a high level with a broken hand as a dt. You also have to understand that this is a business, and he is in a contract year. No way in hell a good business man would risk millions of dollars. That may ruffle your panties a little, but that’s the reality. If he was my son, client, or patient, no way in hell would I let him play. Especially not on a short week.
