Bucs Off To Tropicana Field For Two Practices

Lovie Smith is taking a page from Raheem Morris’ playbook

Is Lovie Smith channeling Raheem Morris?

The ol’ ball coach used to take the Bucs over to Tropicana Field to practice on Thursdays in order to stay cool and extra fresh.

Tomorrow and Wednesday, Lovie is heading the 1-3 Buccaneers across Tampa Bay to practice at the Tampa Bay Rays’ home field.

Yes, that’s two consecutive practices in the dome. Does Lovie want extra indoor work to prepare for Sunday’s game it the SuperDome? Or will this be a trend now that baseball season (for the Rays) is over.

Joe’s guessing Lovie had this planned all along.

Lovie has a lot of stuff well planned out. . . . .Joe, did he mention to you that he WAS OFF FOR A YEAR??

    : -))

  2. HawaiianBuc Says:

Makes perfect sense to me. Why practice in the heat and elements when you are about to play on turf in A/C. They can pump in some noise while they’re at it. I like the idea.

  3. Brian Says:

If they invited fans to show up and help simulate crowd noise, they’d probably draw a bigger crowd than the average Rays home game.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

Good idea Brian. I would of showed up for that.

  5. SAMCRO Says:

It’s too bad our club doesn’t have an indoor practice facility like the Dolphins. Instead of breathing that oven hot air during practice, it would help hasten their recovery time. Not to mention the fact they are playing in a dome next game, helps blow the theory of practicing in hot weather away. The only players who benefited from this summers hot weather practices were Carolina, and St. Louis.

Although it is nice they do have use of Tropicana Field now.

  6. Luther Says:

No matter how inept Raheem was, he did have some great ideas. Remember he started the iPod movement in the NFL and now most if not all teams do it and the Tropicana Field practice just makes great sense.

  7. DB55 Says:

Well well well. Maybe the old man does listen. Doubt it though he probably just think they’ll be better prepared for Sunday by practicing in a dome.

  8. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @DB55,

I respect your passion for the Bucs. I really do. However, don’t you think you pile on with Lovie a bit much? It’s easy to do when you clearly don’t like someone, but come on dude. I didn’t like Schiano, but even I didn’t criticize every thing he did, especially after a win. Lovie has been far from perfect, but it’s ridiculously early in his first season. He’s not going anywhere anytime soon. You’re going to drive yourself nuts if you keep this up.

  9. dusthty rhothdes Says:

Perhaps they should have an indoor facility on site like many NFL teams currently have

  10. SeanyMac in SC Says:

Its makes sense to me to get used to the artificial turf and make certain they have shoes and padding for the conditions.

  11. dmatt Says:

I hope Lovie n Leslie come up with a plan n scheme to slow down Jimmy Graham. Seeing what Greg Olsen n Heath Miller did to our defense, Graham will have a field day. We must find a way to throw him off his route. Also, now is the time to focus on some serious pass protection for Glennon. Rob Ryan plan will be to disrupt him on almost every pass play. He will bring an abundance of blitz packages. I hope we prepare for this now and not try to figure it out during critical times in the game, because it’s coming.

  12. tickrdr Says:

Completely off topic but read on another site, and hope some will enjoy this as much as I did. As noted, not mine but it summarized the emotion of the Bucs first win!

    Terrible Towels
The terrible towels, those Steelers fans say, symbolize power and might, to fuel their team’s play.
One by one, opponents they fall, in raucous Heinz field, with its black and gold pall.
And then one day, after almost 8 years, the Red and Pewter head back; yes it’s those Buccaneers.
The Steel City up north prepares for a feast, to be gorged by Big Ben, Bell and Blount—what a beast.
The Bucs are easy, so there’s nary a plan; on game day we gorge, us Steelers players and fans.
Just before noon on Sunday, near North Shore Drive, where three rivers join, their opponents arrive.
Steelers fans look, and gasping they say, “Look out! A pirate ship—it’s headed our way!”
Cannons are booming, thick smoke fills the air; such thunder, blazing speed, as the attack comes to bear.
The Bucs storm the field, up and down it they sail, plundering and pounding, until they prevail.
Heinz field, it falls silent, when the last whistle blows, exactly what happened, nobody knows.
Except Lovie and Gerald, and Vincent and Krewe; it was coming, this win—now they need number two!
Those terrible towels, that waved proudly for years, this day are used only…to dry Steelers fans’ tears.

    Hawaii aloha mi amigo

Truth is I liked Coach Smith. I was excited when he got hired, a throwback from the glory years. Then he started making decisions like hiring in OC with no NFL experience then he hired frazier who is just awful as a DC and a head coach. He fired our entire offense of line without any decent replacements but the kicker was when he hired mclown. After that I just lost it and made it my mission to blast him andclown bc a) I thought it was idiotic to hire a 12yr backup as our starter when we have a perfectly good rookie to groom and b) bc I really don’t have anything better to do.

So hopefully by the end of the season I can sit down with a big fat plate of crow and post how sorry and idiotic and stupid I’ve been this season with my comments and bashing of Coach Smith. But so far all he’s done is proven me right. But, I can taper my enthusiasm, it helps when I take my meds.

Lovie and a lot of others need to get with the times. This isn’t our fathers football this is now the madden generation. We ain’t winning games 3-6 anymore. Damn sure ain’t winning a championship by scoring 14 points. Patience is not one of my strengths. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

If you think I’m hard on Lovie you should read what I write about mccoy.

    Sorry it didn’t ryhme.

Finally,!! Hopefully the Bucs see a connection between all their muscle and tendon injuries and their antiquated, gladiator training techniques. Get these guys into a comfortable training environment.
    See http://cathe.com/does-exercising-in-hot-weather-cause-earlier-fatigue
for example. Now if only they could train on grass inside.

    Db55, two things are funny:

1- You’ve chosen to be negative about a sport I assume that you love watching. Further, you want to infect others with your misery.. We adults have enough problems that your whining is ridiculous.. Unless you’re 14 years old. If so, I totally understand.

2- you act like you have the insight.. How many closed to public meetings at one Buc have you been to? Coaches meetings? The war room for draft? -Fact is, you’re just guessing.

    Lighten up.

    Go Bucs!!!

  17. Patrickbucs Says:

It’s because they are playing in the dome. Weather is going to be a lot nicer starting this week. It’s not like the Rays don’t travel and they couldn’t use it otherwise.

  18. DB55 Says:

With 16 wins in the last 4 years in surprised more fans aren’t as crazy. This team drives me crazy but so does my mom, doesn’t mean I love her any less. If you think this is bad, trust me my neighbors have it worse. The whole street gets to hear me yelling at my screen for 4 hours on Sunday’s. #itsabucslife #whatthehellareyoufuckingdoing

I’m from ny. Negativity is kinda my thing. Just skip over the comment, it’s all good. im just sharing my truths, you don’t have to read them. And I’m actually four years old.

  20. biff barker Says:

My guess it’s just to get some practice time on the turf. There was no time to do this before the Atlanta debacle.

  21. Broy34 Says:

Yes tight ends are having big success. That’s because they’re always lined up in the middle of the field. Weakness is between the safeties behind the middle linebacker or under him. U simply cannot call the same cover 2 all zone coverage and expect to win a Super Bowl in my opinion. It’s been proven. Look at dallas and our secondary stats. You need pressure and even with it teams haven’t stopped throwing for 275 or higher against us. Can anyone explain if I’m wrong about the zone weaknesses. Just being truthful

  22. StPeteBucsFan Says:

There is the MGM and there are Glennon haters…same for Lovie…GMAC is drawing some mild debate….it’s AWESOME!!! Because we are debating FOOTBALL. I thought this season would never get here.

Yeah the team is 1-3 and Lovie has returned conservative Dungyball which bored the fans into running our greatest coach out of town. Yeah sometimes it bores me too. But as the man said…”Just win baby”. Dungy was a winner. *scoreboard* Lovie is a winner *scoreboard*. Both guys made it to the big game! How many coaches can claim that?

This team has a lot of problems. It also has a lot of promise and some wonderful teases. Is Glennon the guy we saw in Seattle and last week at Pittsburgh? Again for Glennon *scoreboard*. He may look gawky, he’s not “athletic”, doesn’t display that explosive talent like a Newton, or Kaepernik he’s not smooth like Rodgers or Luck…but he does have a decent arm, he’s pretty accurate, how many drops last week and the pick was because Evans pulled his groin and couldn’t finish his pattern.

Is our glass half full or half empty? Rock on with the debate guys.

I want to watch games with DB55. This guys seems like a good dude. Totally took that criticism in stride. That’s so rare these days.
