Shaun King Explains Johnny Football Freefall

March 6th, 2014

Former Bucs quarterback Shaun King, one of three QBs to the lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game, tells his NBC Sports Network brethren why Johnny Football will not be a first-round draft pick in May.

There is no truth to the rumor that King was taken to a mental institution for testing following shooting this video.

I remember when Harry said not to put too much stock in Greg Cosell’s assessment of Mike Glennon because he didn’t play in the NFL, let alone as a QB.

So, here we have a former NFL QB…….

  2. Chris Says:

Shaun king is 100% right about Manziel. But an owner will like the “flash” he brings from A&M.

I love it how most couch fans here for Tampa rag on king bc he wasn’t a good qb in the nfl. But if you listen to the evaluations and analysis, he’s right many times more often than wrong.

  3. Barry Says:

MG8 is much better QB than S.King ever was.

  4. SombreroBro Says:

“The only placekicker to lead the Buccaneers to the playoffs”, Neil O’Donoghue was a better QB than Shaun King.

  5. Buc1987 Says:

Chris…I think King is a Buc basher. I think he’s very bitter towards the org. Until I hear differently from him, I’ll continue to think like that.

  6. zam Says:

Mock drafts should be about predicting what the teams do, even mistakes. That’s what makes them useful. If he didn’t do that, it isn’t useful.

Here’s a list of mock drafts from last year and how well they did in the first round when you throw out traded picks and players already picked:

    Walter Football 8-5
    Mike Mayock 9-6
    Florio 6-7
    Todd McShay 4-6
    Commish 1-6
    Mel Kiper 0-10

Mayock’s was the most impressive because he was in it for 15 of the 24 picks that weren’t traded away, and he had 9 of them right.

It’s been said mocks don’t matter and no one can get it right, but Mayock and Walterfootball’s DO pick them right.

  7. Brandon Says:

King won more games in his rookie year than Glennon did…. in way less starts. That win against Seattle in Seattle, Glennon could’ve never pulled off some of those plays (particularly the short TD pass off play-action, Glennon would’ve fumbled without being hit like he did against Carolina.

    Hahahaha what?!

  9. kh Says:

Brandon in the history of dumb JBF comments yours might take the cake. It is ludicrous to ignore the fact that Shaun King played with some of the greatest defenses in Buccaneer history, one that only needed 17 points/game to win 12+ games a year, and yet routinely led the Bucs to less than that.

  10. FLBoyInDallas Says:

I can’t wait for Joe to be flabbergasted at the traveshamockery of Manziel being drafted in the second round. But Joe will still be right and the rest of the NFL community will be insane. Yes, that last part was sarcasm.

  11. Eric Says:

I hope King is right and the free fall is right to us. Sapp falling fueled our last run and ultimate title.

If so, NFC South Champs and excitement returns to Rayjay.

Most exciting QB over last 20 years. But the dullards like Glennon.

    Go figure.

  12. Clowney Says:

There is zero chance that Detroit picks another WR with it’s 1st pick.

That’s how Matt Millen got fired

  13. alarm clock rob Says:

Any chance the Bucs take him if he is there? I personally things its a risk worth taking, if he gets injured you still have Glennon and if Glennon sits on our bench all season I can see his trade value going up because of his starting experience.

“Most exciting QB over last 20 years.”

Eric that’s yours for life now. That’s your tagline man. You own that, ya know.

Joe, love you man. Your passion towards Johnny “Spoiled Rotten” Football is remarkable. We don’t see eye to eye on this topic, but I do enjoy discussions. How boring would this corner of the inter webs would be if we all agreed on everything. Keep up the good work.

  16. Jktampa Says:

King is right and Dungy is wrong…if we are talking about food. King is an idiot.

  17. Craner Says:

The Fire Schiano billboards were effective! Let’s get some Draft Johnny boards going on lol

  18. Warren Says:

This is why king is a joke as an analyst. Lol@johnny football in the 2nd rd.
King has a bias in favor of black QBs. It’s pretty clear listening to his position. He is trying to cause a free fall for Johnny football so his boy teddy bridgewater (who he says is as good as Andrew luck) doesn’t have a free fall of his own.

  19. Tampa Fan Says:

    he got really fat

  20. JBFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS Says:

The questions that ownership, G.M’s, scout’s, and coaches would need to be answered about Johnny, would be the off field issues. (Questions about his maturity) Is it bad enough to scare them away.

My question is why would you wait to try to correct the maturity issues after you leave school. As he stated few months back, that he would stay off twitter and partying to focus on his preparation for the draft. Very suspicious.

“Joe, love you man. Your passion towards Johnny “Spoiled Rotten” Football is remarkable. ”

It’s just as bad as the male groupies of Tim Tebow

  23. Eric Says:

How about Tarkenton and Brett Favre? Both big Johnny Football supporters.

    Slightly more accomplished than King.

  24. Mike10 Says:

Unbelievable how much weight Shaun has packed on! He looks like a retired lineman, not QB! What’s he weighing now?

Chris…I think King is a Buc basher. I think he’s very bitter towards the org. Until I hear differently from him, I’ll continue to think like that.

No. King is a realist. I don’t think it’s rotten grapes. He’s spelled out every move the bucs should have made instead of Goldson and Revis for example, before they were made. Watching how 2013 panned out , through FA and draft picks he was right 100%. Nothing against Revis but you could have drafted Richardson or Vaccaro. Instead of signing Goldson you could have went after a FS in the draft, 2013 was the deepest and most talented in several years.

He was right when it came. Bucs fans don’t like him bc he tells it like it is and Tampa fans don’t want to hear it. The moment schiano was hired he wasn’t on board with the decision and said it was a horrible move.

I’m a die hard Buc fan but I’ll be the first to tell you if lovie took over this exact 2013 team , I’m not sure he gets many more wins than 4-12. You could argue 6-10 at best but they were horrific. And a lot of the blame goes towards bad decision making from mark dominik.

Lovie and licht have some work to do. Find a franchise qb is tops along with an edge rusher and dline depth. And no joe. Johnny Manziel is not a franchise qb.

  26. Don Says:

I think King has a thyroid problem or something

  27. Mike10 Says:

    I agree w u Chris, didn’t always like Shaun’s opinion.. but he’s usually right.

  28. Fan Since '76 Says:

I agree with Tampa Fan. That was my only takeaway from the interview.

  29. skipper Says:

Amazing to me at the negativity regarding Johnny Football. Thinking the anti Manziel crowd missed the past two seasons of College Football. This guy is a cocky, confident winner who is a born leader, not to mention his exceptional athletic ability. I am hoping he makes it to #7, this guy will bring real excitement to the Bucs organization.

  30. tj Says:

cant believe we listen to chubby hands he said freemans the man,

  31. RichStriff27 Says:

By the time I stopped staring over how sloppy SK got, the video was over…what did i miss? let me guess, King went against the consensus…SHOCKER. This guy is a below average analyst. His reasonings are hypocritical as the coanalyst pointed out. King is a joke. And hes just trying to get a rise out of people by being the leader of the “johnny will drop” brigade.
