Mike Glennon Hot Seat Blazing

March 12th, 2014

Josh McCown, your 2014 Bucs starting QB?

Today is not a good day for the Mike Glennon Mob. The Bucs announced this afternoon that their speed date with Josh McCown is now a full-blown marriage. The backup Bears quarterback is now a Bucs quarterback and could very well be the starter come this summer.

The fact the Bucs signed McCown — not a surprise — signals a variety of things. First, don’t lay awake at night expecting a signing of Michael Vick. Second, at worst, McCown is a stop-gap. If the Bucs find that Glennon is not the guy, McCown, 34, will be the bridge to (hopefully) a franchise quarterback.

What Joe does believe to be the case is, Glennon is going to get perhaps two seasons to master Jeff Tedford’s offense, or it goes to a yet unnamed quarterback to be drafted in May (Johnny Football? Jimmy Garoppolo? Aaron Murray?).

Both Bucs coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Light had it crystal clear that Glennon was not going to be knighted the starting quarterback just because he was Greg Schiano’s handpicked messiah and mancrush since before Glennon was of legal age.

    Damn damn damn

  2. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Johnny Dirtball will be a Texan or a Jaguar

  3. bucrightoff Says:

HAHAHA what a redirect Joe. You know Manziel is gone and you say Glennon is on the hot seat? No, you’re heart is in tatters, admit it.

  4. snook Says:

Next up…. Steve Smith… McCowns buddy.

  5. dizzle Says:

JOE STOP IT!!!! We will not waste the #7 on JF. So get off those knee pads and stop dreaming.

  6. BucfaninMi Says:

So… The Bucs must have the NFL record for most Josh’s that played QB?

  7. ander Says:

well glennon will get competition so it should be fun. go bucs,

  8. Joe Says:

    JOE STOP IT!!!!

    NO!!!!

  9. Jeagan1999 Says:

McCown is a capable veteran backup/mentor for MG8. Now we will see the Bucs spend a 3rd round pick on a guy like Aaron Murray or A.J. McCarron and our QB roster will be complete! Wise move by Smith/Licht…I still believe Glennon is the guy, but it doesn’t hurt to have a capable vet in the wings just in case!

  10. Lynch Says:

@YES at snook! Lets see Steve Smith or Golden Tate!

  11. Couch Fan Says:

The MGM welcomes McCown to Tampa. We look forward to a great competition which he will ultimately loose.

  12. Jordan Says:

    10 million

  13. Architek Says:

Another non-flash – substantial signing that will make the team better overall.

    In Lovie I Trust!

  14. Buc1987 Says:

McCown is no lock to play well. So the door on Glennon is not completely shut.

  15. mark2001 Says:

So much for a first round QB, unless Watkins and best OT is gone and trade down a few slots isn’t there. WR and OT are the two big positions yet untouched.

  16. bucrightoff Says:

Seriously are you crying Joe? Weeping as you stare into your Johnny posters? Is this site becoming JoeBrownsFan when he ends up there?

What we can definitively say is the biggest loser in FA so far is Joe. His boy is gone.

  17. unbelievable Says:

I am not a MGM-member, nor am I anti-glennon, I want the best QB taking the snaps plain and simple. But this:

“Both Bucs coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Light had it crystal clear that Glennon was not going to be knighted the starting quarterback just because he was Greg Schiano’s handpicked messiah and mancrush since before Glennon was of legal age.”

    was ‘effin funny Joe. thanks.

  18. eoe Says:

this signing is a meh one.. we should of signed Shaun Hill. They’re the same age, but Hill has had a more consistent career.

Hill: 61.9% cmp, 41-23 td int, 85.9 rating

Mccown has a 59.4% cmp, 50-45 td int, 77.5 rating

  19. William Says:

Garoppolo will start in 2015. All is falling in place.

  20. mark2001 Says:

10 mil for two years with incentives.

  21. Patrick Says:

Waste of a signing for a guy that’s not even the long term answer. He’s basically the same level as Glennon to top it off. Getting Aaron Murray in the 4th or 5th would be a great value pick if we don’t draft Bridgewater or Manziel.

  22. PRBucFan Says:

McCown will win, but lose to the impending drafted QB rookie 😀

  23. Joe Says:

If people think the Bucs signing a 34-year old career backup means the Bucs won’t draft a quarterback, please pass the vodka.

  24. mark2001 Says:

5 mil. a year. Not too far out there.

  25. PRBucFan Says:

Joe you should bump up the FA thread so we can post on it.

  26. Theodore Says:

That puts us over the cap, so Revis is gone (in case someone out there still had hopes).

  27. Jordan Says:

10 million is about 1 million for each McCown win over the last 8 years.

  28. Max Says:

Poor Joe…you can always think of Rachel Watson in these hard times.

  29. Gorgonzola Says:

What happened to the second thing? We went from first to third.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

    Joe in denial.

  31. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Heard -Anthony Collins & Peanut are a lock to sign

The MGM welcomes McCown to Tampa. We look forward to a great competition which he will ultimately loose.

Yes we do, Couch. This is great. We now have two QBs on the roster, who are both better than Freeman. We are on the up and up. May the best man win!

  33. Jordan Says:

I hope this is an incentive laden contract to the point where we can cut him if we land a top QB in the draft in May.

  34. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Buc1987

    Grab your heart medication..lol

  35. bucrightoff Says:

No Joe, it means drafting a QB in the first is not happening anymore. So say goodbye to Johnny and hello to Zach Mettenberger.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Judging by how FA went. I think these two are going to trade down even more now.

  37. d-money Says:

I don’t think this good or bad news for Glennon.

You won’t know exactly how they feel about Glennon until draft day.

  38. Couch Fan Says:

Lol I gotta agree with joe on this one. This means nothing as far as the draft is concerned. Licht has said multiple times he wants to use Free Agency to build depth so he can go into the draft able to pick BPA.

He is doing exactly what he said he wanted to do.

  39. Jeagan1999 Says:

Joes dreams of seeing Johhny Football in a Bucs uniform are fading away…but the mancrush continues!!! So sad when a bro’mance doesn’t work out!

  40. The_Buc_Realist Says:

This is fantastic. This signing keeps the Bucs from making a desperate move on draft day. They can walk away from QB’s with the 7th pick and get the best player available. Great Move. I applaud the front office

Fix this mess Lovie, and Be a Legend!!!!

  41. PRBucFan Says:

Drafting a QB in the first round, bet on it

  42. Lynch Says:

I just saw on the Bucs official website that Ted Ginn stopped to meet with the Bucs today. Thoughts?

  43. Jordan Says:

While this is a great hedge against missing out on a top QB in the draft, I feel that Glennon has a very good chance at beating McCown in camp. Therefore, this should be seen as 5 million for a potential backup QB.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

Yep Realist…I’m starting to like these two. A lot.

  45. Westsidebucsfan Says:

I have to say that I am impressed with how well the BUCS are doing in free agency. They aren’t breaking the bank on 1 or 2 players.

  46. lurker Says:

so we pass up the number 1 or 2 cb and keep the one of the worst qb’s and sign a scrub.

    inmates running the asylum.

  47. Buc1987 Says:

    PRB….what should we bet?

  48. Nybucsfan Says:

Hate this pickup and I’m not a fan of mike G. Waisted money and more loses

  49. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Might even (trade our 2015 1st round pick for a high 2nd round pick)-who knows
Glad to see that win now mantra Alive & Well again.

A Lot better than that freaking-‘race to 10’ wins BS…smh

  50. Buc1987 Says:

lurker…go listen to Little Puppy on 620.

  51. bucrightoff Says:

Yeah PRB, what would you like to bet? Cause I give us a -100% chance of drafting a QB in the first round, unless we trade back several times and take one in the 26-30 range (and that is moronic still, we need more depth at OLine, pass rush, corner, a speed receiver…).

  52. nate_tweetz Says:

The starting QB position will be Josh McCown’s to lose. He is gonna be making $ 5mil a year for the next 2 years. Way more than what Glennon is making. McCown is Lovie’s acquisition (unlike Glennon), McCown will have the experience edge, and the competition will be on a level playing field in regards to learning a new offense for both of them. Not overly excited about a 34 year old QB that will obviously NOT be our long term franchise QB. We’ll see how the draft shakes out.

  53. JBFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS Says:

    Insert foot in mouth again????

  54. PRBucFan Says:

    I’d be anything 😉

If you think we are not going to draft a QB that will be the eventual start THIS draft you are out of your minds hahaha.

On top of that McCown would be out Glennon IF they don’t.

  55. Burg Says:

He will make a good mentor for Bortles…

  56. LUVMYBUCS Says:

We bout to send them both a gift card to Ocean Prime steakhouse-bet!

  57. mark2001 Says:

Jordon…think you misread the contract info…5 mil. a year for two years…total 10 mil..plus incentives that could take it to $15.

  58. PRBucFan Says:

    beat*

  59. Mark Says:

Not saying the Bucs won’t use a draft pick on a QB. But I do believe it won’t be a 1st.

Joe does this mean you won’t be posting anymore today because you and your bottle will be busy.

No Revis, No Johnny, No sober Joe. Wow things are working the right way with Lovie.

  60. Andres Says:

Wow this is actually an endorsement for glennon. I’m very surprised.

  61. ThePhoenix Says:

Today is a fine day for the MGM. Most individuals in the MGM just want Glennon to be able to compete for the job and signing McCown does just that. They just don’t want some unproven JoeBucsCrush rookie to come in and be handed the job. There may be a few MGMers who think Glennon should be handed the job just like there are a few people in the 25k visit a day that think Joe is either a moron or a genius, but it’s not the majority. This signing today could be what pushes Glennon to the top or breaks him. Glennon was already a football junkie, imagine what real competition could bring out of him. Dude will be using the playbook as a pillow every night.

  62. bucrightoff Says:

You said first round pick PRB. I agree this doesn’t chance drafting a QB, it does however mean its not happening in the first round.

  63. PRBucFan Says:

    I disagree

  64. theDON Says:

lets get behind this guy mccown. whether you like it or not, he is your tampa bay buccaneers starting qb.

plus, he is lukes brother. #gruden, #leftwich, #raheem

  65. The_Buc_Realist Says:

Lets dig a little further, This signing is very key to what is important to what the offense wants to be. If you look at the two QBs on the roster, there main attribute is taking care of the football. I think that is very important to this team. And the only Qb in the top of the draft in the same mold is Teddy Bridgewater. If he is gone you can bet that the bucs will take best player available ( hopefully Offensive Tackle).

  66. Jordan Says:

Mark2001 – I have only seen one report from schefter stating 4.75 million this year and 5.25 million next year for a combined 10 million. So far no mention of escalators.

  67. Theodore Says:

Joe, stop fooling yourself. McCown is the perfect QB for an OC guru. The Bucs will not spend their top pick on a QB. Gurus don’t need the QB with top talent, because their coaching (in their mind) is the factor.

  68. Buccanole Says:

*Yawn* Wake me when we address our #2 DB, #2 DE, WR, or OL issues

  69. Couch Fan Says:

I disagree to. This will not effect any round in the draft. Not sure how you could think any different.

  70. Jordan Says:

I see La Canfora is reporting 15 million possible as you say. I guess we have conflicting reports

  71. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Grab the best player available at #7, draft Aaron Murray in the 2nd or 3rd (assuming we release revis in an hour)

  72. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

I love what we have done so far. Signed a short term qb for a good deal. Then Verner is a playmaker in Lovies system. All Jphnson did was lead the league in batted balls at the line of scrimmage and qb hurries. Great job so far. Add Collins and Tillman and our draft board is wide open with options at the 7th pick or to trade down. Great two days.

  73. bucrightoff Says:

So who are we taking PRB? I mean really? Reaching for someone?

  74. PRBucFan Says:

    @Jordan

Yes there are incentives for up to 15 mil over 2 years.

  75. StAugBuc Says:

    Rick Brown ‏@LedgeronBucs
#Bucs have had so many people visit, this is like a college recruiting day: Welcome to One Buc Place. If you sign in, we can begin our tour.

    lol

Confirmed Panthers free-agent WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr. will visit with the Bucs-

    Get’em Lovie & Licht

  77. JMN Says:

Bring on the QB competition! That was the problem with J-Fro, he never went into a training camp not being the anointed starter (except his rookie season). We’ll see the best of what Glennon and J. McCown have to offer! And heck, I’m not discounting a QB in the first round like a lot of other posters have. Unless you are sitting in the war room with the GM and coaches you have no idea.

  78. Joe Says:

draft Aaron Murray in the 2nd

If Licht drafts Murray on the second day, he needs to be drug tested.

  79. Macabee Says:

Ted Ginn just arrived at the Bucs. Somebody call the law! Licht is on fire!

  80. pick6 Says:

to lift the “doug williams curse”, the bucs donated money to Grambling, doug’s alma mater and the program he was head coach of at the time. later that season we won a superbowl. we’ve been without a playoff berth since dom\raheem let luke mccown go and idiotically gave a starting job to byron leftwich. now, i guess we are trying to lift “the mccown curse” by writing his brother a big check.

  81. StAugBuc Says:

    ___________________________________________________________________
Then we should call the fire department! 🙂

  82. bucrightoff Says:

Umm, you guys watch NFL football right? There hasn’t been a first round QB to sit on the bench since 2010 (Tebow lol, horrible reach as we know…). If we’re drafting a QB first round, its to start, period. If we don’t, we waste a year of the cheap rookie contract and create an immediate controversy between McCown, the rookie, and Glennon. Not happening. Remember who Lovie is, he want no part of that crap

  83. Architek Says:

I can see Licht and Lovie going with LT, QB, or WR at #7 or trading down 3 spots so someone can hop Minny to get a QB.

The real focus is how its all been setup masterfully to be a can’t lose draft.

We literally can’t go wrong with our picks.

  84. PRBucFan Says:

3 QB’s to choose from whichever we make a play for if we stay or trade up.

If we trade down, we could get Carr in the latter part of the first

    Again agree to disagree

  85. mark2001 Says:

The point was not 10 a year…10 for 2 with an upside of 15…it was a retweet from Cummings from Albert Breer.

  86. ShutTheBucUp Says:

“If Licht drafts Murray on the second day, he needs to be drug tested.”

Lol, fair enough. But I think he’ll make an impact in the NFL. Probably not for us though.

  87. buchead407 Says:

Should’ve saved the money for someone else and stuck with glennon if we are settling for a backup

  88. Daffy Buc Says:

Did Schiano pull a Sandusky with MG8 when he was in pop warner? That’s why MG8 has that shocked look all the time!! Love light may still grab a qb if they trade down in rounds 1-3. I have a feeling Tedford would love to mold a more mobile qb. Look for more great signings after #15 rated corner is cut!!

  89. Patrick Says:

    Ted Ginn? No thanks!

  91. Couch Fan Says:

Nobody knows who Tedford likes. If his top QB is on the board when we pick, you better believe that will likely be the pick. McCown’s presence will not have anything to do with that decision. I do agree though that his top pick wont be there at 7 so we might not pick.

But this signing has no bearing on that pick. Only way it does is if they believe McCown is the future. And if thats the case, were screwed.

  92. mark2001 Says:

Architek…almost exactly what I’ve been saying, except I think OT, WR, unless we get a good one in FA….The QB will be if we can’t get the guy we want there and can’t get a good trade down.

  93. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

This was a lot of money to pay for a back up QB.

  94. Fritz50 Says:

“That puts us over the cap, so Revis is gone (in case someone out there still had hopes).”

Sorry , could be easily handled by dumping Nicks. We’ll see.

  95. Jeagan1999 Says:

Tick, tick, tick….less than 60 minutes remaining in Revis’s Tampa Bay career! Only question now is can we find someone to trade with, or do we just cut him….stay tuned…there may be some wheeling and dealing going on right now!

  96. bucrightoff Says:

And we need a QB why? We can’t draft one next year? It has to be this year that we draft a guy to sit 3rd string possibly? If we pass on a lineman, pass rusher, speed receiver or corner to draft a QB, I’m going to be puzzled. The Bucs don’t need a QB to start, they just signed a guy they think will start. Its not happening in the first round. And if it does we’re going to look pretty dumb.

  97. Theodore Says:

If a QB is available at #7, I would think the Bucs would be comfortable trading down. McCown is just what Lovie wants year 1 (at least).

  98. Sam Says:

Looks like we’re grabbing a LT in the first round!

  99. biff barker Says:

Looks like Gruden’s fear of young QB’s has taken root in Lovie. And that’s OK. All this means is that there are two options now.

I’m thinking we are going to trade down now too.

  100. Hank Says:

IMO, No way we take a QB in the 1st now. I do see them getting one in the mid rounds to develop/ compete with Glennon though.

  101. Couch Fan Says:

Nobody said we need a QB. You are assuming there is no possible way that Tedford’s #1 QB wont be BPA when we pick. I disagree. Either way McCown still has nothing to do with any of that. He is depth, nothing more.

  102. Patrick Says:

Get Penn to take a pay cut. Any other ways we can create even more cap room?

  103. Couch Fan Says:

Will be BPA when we pick*

  104. Patrick Says:

    “He is depth, nothing more.”

Sorry, you don’t pay that much money for “depth.”

  105. nate_tweetz Says:

I wonder who’s gonna be the first one on here to call him Josh “McClown” the second he messes up… damn… I guess I just did. smh

  106. Barry Says:

McCown has never beat out anyone for a starting job. He’s a career backup. Glennon will beat out McCown. At this point MG8 is the starting QB.

  107. PRBucFan Says:

    Exactly Couch

    Not a hard concept Bucrightoff

And believe me there’s nothing indicating we don’t need a QB either.

Your assuming that McCown is the automatic start, not the case lol

  108. bucrightoff Says:

Couch, you think McCown is depth, when his number 1 consideration was oppurtunity to start? He is here to start. Unless Glennon beats him out (and I wouldn’t be opposed), he will be the starter and will be given every chance to be the starter. I think now the earliest you see the Bucs draft a QB is the 3rd round, and ideally unless its great value, not at all. Needs corners. Need more rushers. Need a receiver to stretch the field. More offensive line.

Anyways the Bucs would be foolish beyond belief to now draft a QB in the 1st round. It’s too valuable a commodity to waste on what could be a third string player.

  109. Couch Fan Says:

Lovie had to pay a little more because he wanted him for whatever reasons. 5 Mil is by no means starters money. Lol. This is getting comical.

  110. Macabee Says:

    StAugBuc,

Good one! lol. Whether it’s Ginn or someone else, I think there is going to be an emphasis on speed.

  111. Tampabaybucfan Says:

McCowm is a significant upgrade to Dan O and good competition for Glennon….may the best man win!!!

  112. Couch Fan Says:

Oppertunity to start by no means, means he will start, its just an oppertunity if he can beat out Glennon. Yes I am sure he thinks he can and will beat out Glennon. It’s not guaranteed though.

Yes Lovie thinks of him as depth with a chance to start.

  113. Capt. Tim Says:

    Yay! We signed another Backup!

  114. Patrick Says:

His brother should’ve been our starting quarterback in 2009

  115. bucrightoff Says:

The fact you think he’s here to backup is even funnier Couch. He could go to New York and easily start. He could go to Houston and probably easily start. But he came here to be a backup. At the most money anyone was offering…

Sorry, he’s here to start. I know people don’t like it, I really don’t either, but like cutting Revis, its going to happen.

  116. Theodore Says:

Maybe McCown is for depth. 5 million is not that much with a $125MM cap and growing north of $150MM soon. 120/53 players is $2MM+ each. And this is the QB position.

  117. PRBucFan Says:

    TBBF

There will be another man in that battle soon enough lol

  118. PRBucFan Says:

Actually a comfortable situation for his family was the most important thing to him.

And Tampa trumped all in that department.

  119. Buc1987 Says:

Where does one watch the presser?

  120. Buc1987 Says:

    RB…Kafka lol might be it.

  121. Architek Says:

I don’t think the debate or question is if we are taking a QB at #7 but after their approach and acquisitions they can take BPA.

But you cannot tell me Teddy B. at #7 is not a heck of a value pick considering he is arguably the best QB in the draft.

The point that I am reinforcing is the methodical execution of their plan is clear and it shows they’re superior football minded compared to the prior regime.

For the record – I do see Tampa going with an offensive stud @ #7 –
QB, LT, WR, or trade down.

  122. Buc1987 Says:

I swear this damn wireless keyboard always leaves out the first letter of a sentence I type. It’s dayum annoying.

  123. PRBucFan Says:

No I mean someone who is a legitimate contender 87 😛

  124. Couch Fan Says:

Lol I feel like I am debating with a child here. “Opportunity to start” is pretty self explanatory.

I just said he did not come here to back up anyone. In his mind he will win the Job. But that is not guaranteed. And I promise you Lovie is not going to hand him the Job.

    Comical.

  125. WalkdaPlank Says:

    *phew* not Vick…

  127. Jeagan1999 Says:

@Tampabaybucfan…agreed! It’s a great day for the Bucs! We have 2 capable QB’s now…maybe a 3rd or 4th round selection in the draft too….let them push each other and may the best QB win! My money is still on Glennon, but let’s see what happens! I’m just glad they didn’t panic (yet) and waste a first round pick on a rookie QB that would be immediately thrown to the wolves!

  128. Bucs55 Says:

Wasn’t flynn given 5 mill a year by the sea hawks and still got beat out you never know

  129. Buc1987 Says:

    Architek…I fully agree.

  130. Lou. Says:

If we trade down, it would likely be to take a Mike.

I have not heard any Lovie love for Foster.

  131. Buc1987 Says:

    PRB O thanks

  132. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

McCown had five good games in a career of how many? Sorry, he’s nothing but a backup. Bucs will still take a qb.

  133. Macabee Says:

The free agents the Bucs confirmed as visitors are Chicago cornerback Charles Tillman, Green Bay center Evan Dietrich-Smith, New England linebacker Dane Fletcher, Cincinnati offensive lineman Anthony Collins and Carolina wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr.

Somebody call up and have Brinks or Wells Fargo bring over some more cash. We’re going to need it!

  134. Sapp, STFU Says:

It was all fun and games until Licht signed a rock-thrower named Josh.

  135. NewTampaChris Says:

I’m just as excited for McCown as I was for Brian Griese and Jeff Garcia! Bring on the journeymen!!

  136. Barry Says:

I believe now the Bucs will draft Watkins,Mack,Mathews in the first round and then draft Mettenberger or Garoppolo in the 2nd. I’d like to see Mettenberger. If Manziel is there at 7 I do think they’ll draft him.

  137. WalkdaPlank Says:

Big question now is Revis. Less than 2 hours to the deadline.

  138. Hawaiian Buc Says:

If we were to draft a QB in the first round or two (unlikely it seems), would there be a possibility of trading Mike Glennon, perhaps on draft day? I know that’s a bit far fetched, but I would think he’d have much more trade value now than he would if he was our third string QB. At this point, I don’t know if anyone is truly safe on this team.

  139. Buc1987 Says:

If the Bucs draft Manziel. Joe will have an orgasm for days.

  140. Buc1987 Says:

    WalkdaPlank…..nope try 30 minutes.

  141. PRBucFan Says:

    Bonzai, that’s your opinion lol.

By no means is that fact.

Plenty of late bloomers have played and succeeded in the NFL.

Not to mention he proved just last season he can in fact be more than a backup. 😉

  142. Lou. Says:

Looking at Tedford’s choice of McCown over Vick, it appears the JFoot style is not what this regime wants. I don’t think the coaches value abridge water, Bortles and Manzeil equally. And Tedford may want Carr over all three.

  143. WalkdaPlank Says:

If Mancrush is a Buc, he will promptly go to IR before the bye behind the Bucs current O-line.

  144. Buc1987 Says:

Oh see… I thought the presser was at 3 PM. It’s at 4:30.

  145. PRBucFan Says:

I no longer care for anything Revis

Damnit we lost him for NOTHING

  146. StAugBuc Says:

    Revis cut

  147. Couch Fan Says:

    Revis has been released.

  148. Buc1987 Says:

    Revis official released!

  149. WalkdaPlank Says:

@87 ahh yes Im in Tejas so im an hour behind. Soooo less than half an hour….

  150. Buc1987 Says:

    The island is gone.

  151. Architek Says:

    @Bonzai,
You are right but you don’t see the value in having a proven backup on the staff to mentor the young QB that will possibly be coming.

Or even taking a Derek Carr or Garapollo in the second for developing into a starter is very low risk.

    Very smart imo.

  152. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Welp, doesn’t matter, he’s gone…

  153. Patrick Says:

The Bucs will release Revis at 3:59:59 EST.

  154. The_Buc_Realist Says:

wrong, we didn’t lose him for nothing, we get 16 million in cap and turned a high 4th rounder into a high 3rd rounder.

  155. Couch Fan Says:

I hope they fire whoever it was that leaked out his release rumor the other night. That really screwed us. Nobody thought Revis would be cut up until that point.

  156. Buc1987 Says:

    Patrick he just got released.

  157. GoNoles Says:

HAHAHAH!!! As long as McCown is the only compition, Glennon should win hands down.

  158. Architek Says:

    @1987,
Correction – Joe will be twerking on the radio!!!

“Bounce – Manziel – Bounce” LOL

Cleveland will not slip by Cleveland.

  159. Jeagan1999 Says:

Revis cut! Sucks we couldn’t trade him, but at least we free up $16 million in cap space!

  160. stevek (MGM) Says:

I hope our Fax machine works, so we can release Revis on time. I would hate to be stuck in a “Dumervil” situation….

  161. Buc1987 Says:

    Licht must be exhausted.

  162. mark2001 Says:

Jock Stars last gasp…Revis gone…what a joke of a GM the itch was.

  163. WalkdaPlank Says:

Wonder if Joe will still refer to the Teflon Dom as a ROCKSTAR!!!

  164. Architek Says:

Manziel will not slip by Cleveland.

  165. bucrightoff Says:

Revis will take less money now and go to New England or Seattle and this place will explode

  166. zam Says:

Schiano fell in love with the real estate with Glennon. It made him feel manly to think that he had spotted Glennon all the way back in high school. As if he were a hot stock tip or something.

  167. Joe Says:

Wonder if Joe will still refer to the Teflon Dom as a ROCKSTAR!!!

    Of course!

  168. PRBucFan Says:

Yes we lost him for nothing

16 and 3rd + what we should have gotten from another team for the best CB in the league is > Just 16 mil and a 3rd

  169. Buc1987 Says:

I think so too Architek. I think Manziel will be a Brown. I also think if he slips past the Bucs he may fall really far in the 1st.

  170. mark2001 Says:

And people got on my case when I wanted him gone with Rah…more wasted years…I’m not getting any younger…I think Licht is a keeper.

  171. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Architek
I certainly do see the value. As a backup/temporary starter he is good. And I would settle for Carr now as well. Though I prefer one of the top 3.

McCown got a 2-year deal, so I don’t expect him to be here beyond that. He is certainly not a Drew Brees type signing. People said drew was washed up until he proved otherwise. But Josh was neever reeally any good.

  172. mark2001 Says:

Haven’t been this impressed with a Bucs GM since McKay….the others were second rate.

  173. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    mark2001

Remember you said that in case all this spending backfires.

On anotherr topic, I could wear there were several people that said they were donee if Revis got cut.

  174. Buc1987 Says:

Alex Smith was not all that good for years in San Fran.

  175. NJBucsFan Says:

Alex Smith was also 20 when he came into the league as a starter.

  176. mark2001 Says:

Bonzai…as I remember, I said that when Rah was sent packing, Dom should be too. As far as Revis, I wanted us to hold on until we got something…but I didn’t know the contract was written for the yearly cap hit to go to 18 plus mil and the bonus accellerated when he was cut later, if we took the 7 mil. option. I can’t see the actual contract. I thought all the talk was that Dom had written a great contract here….it wasn’t. Just business as usual for Dom. And we got lucky that Wright imploded, or we would have had that Albatross hanging over our head.

  177. NY Buc Says:

Jeesh who would have guessed Lovie would sign another ex-Bear? It’s all good though good competition for starting QB, and if one guy goes down the other can step right in and probably not miss a beat. Bucs probably got decent value with McCown.

As one of the only Schiano fans here (Belichick II. next go around perhaps?) I suppose I’ve been a little tough on Lovie thus far (I would have bet the farm that he was going to bring in Mike Vick on behalf of his mentor Dungy…glad to see I was wrong). Have to admit that so far Licht and Smith have made some solid moves in FA (at least on paper), but I still absolutely hate the way the Revis situation went in the crapper with nothing to show for it.

  178. Eric Says:

Lovie said from the beginning he would bring in a vet, and would look at drafting a QB at seven.

Not the worst idea ever to have the new QB, or Glennon, sit for a year while Josh starts.

Great signings so far, these fellows are serious and smart.

  179. JBFstalkingjohnnyfootBALLS Says:

Teams like the Jags and Browns draft players like Johnny Manziel. In about two years who ever draft him will be drafting another QB. With this pickup for McCown, Bortles would be a smart pick up to sit behind McCown.
