Seahawks 27, Bucs 24 OT

November 3rd, 2013

Thank you, Buccaneers. Thank you for making Bucs football tolerable again — at least for a day.

For 50+ minutes, the Bucs came out and punished the NFC’s best team and the NFL’s best home team in their own house. And then came the collapse. The Bucs’ defense and offense crawled into their respective holes and died.

Greg Schiano doesn’t know how to win. It’s that simple.

Joe will tip his cap slightly to Mike Sullivan, whose playcalling was stellar until he (or Schiano?) decided to go back to what hasn’t worked most of the season. Three second-half points? Sadly, that’s about what the Bucs are good for these days.

Everything looks a lot easier when your offensive line is dominant. The Bucs’ O-line came out of nowhere to play a stellar game. (Yes, Joe saw Demar Dotson get blown up a few times.) Jamon Meredith making his first start at left guard showed what he did last season at right guard. The guy plays solid football.

And what can Joe say about the rookie stars of the day, Mike Glennon and Mike James? James finished with 28 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown pass to Tom Crabtree. Glennon was 17-of-23 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. He wasn’t up for his biggest drives, but it didn’t help that the Bucs abandoned the run on him.

Sad times for Bucs fans — 0-8 sucks. But at least, for one game, you don’t have to be completely embarrassed.

Declining that offsides penalty was always going to haunt us.

  2. []_[]Buc Says:

I am done with this staff.

If the house doesn’t get cleaned tonight

The fanbase cannot be blamed for picketing the Glazers and just withdrawing every cent of their support.

P.S. The offensive play calling was AWFUL AND PREDICTABLE in the second half.

  3. AceOfAerospace Says:

I hope all the players got to defecate during halftime since that’s all Schiano thinks halftime is for.

  4. RealityCheck Says:

I think you meant 30+ minutes.

  5. J.A. Says:

Up 21-7, 1:40 left in the first half, 3 time outs left and we have we have the ball on our own 35. So, what does THE WORST FOOTBALL COACH in the history of football do? HE RUNS OUT THE CLOCK WITH AN 0-7 TEAM….DON’T LET HIM ON THE PLANE RIDE HOME!!!!!! HE IS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!

  6. bucrightoff Says:

One team made adjustments at halftime and one did the same things in the second half. The team that was well coached for 60 minutes beat the team that was well coached for 30 minutes. Funny how that works.

  7. Jbeachbuc Says:

And we didn’t blow our shot at the top pick. So not too bad of day after all.

  8. Capt. Tim Says:

    Just heartbroken.
Why does our offense always disappear in the second half?
We were actually playing Sullivan’s offense all first half- and we looked great!
Then we go back to what lost us the first 7 games! Why??

    I got nothing left

  9. BucfaninMi Says:

They lost again, that’s all that matters! Moral victories don’t count!

  10. NJBucsFan Says:

    Fire Schiano

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Am I wrong….did our recievers ever get open in the entire second half?……OLine broke down late…..defense wasn’t there for 3 qtrs…..
Easy to blame coaching again…because this is a pattern….but actually, I think we just got our ass whipped in the 2nd half….totally physically outmanned…..

  12. oviedobucsfan Says:

Only hard liquor is helping me cope. HOW did we blow a three touchdown lead? We took our foot off the gas. We should have pinned our ears back and throw the house at them. THREE points in the second half? ….again? I guess the only thing left to do is watch the first half of the game and forget the third, fourthquarter and game final. They played hard, I will give them that and am thankful. But what in the hell goes on in that locker room at halftime? They implode in the second half. If only we could skip halftime. Who will blame schiano this time and where are the consequences from this failure?

  13. Cmurda Says:

Hard to say, us Bucs fan don’t have to be embarrassed. The coaching staff again was outfoxed and we again failed to do anything in the 2nd half. Being teased with an early 21 point lead and losing is worse than just getting smoked all game. This has got to be Schiano’s last stand. The fans simply deserve better.

  14. tone850 Says:

I am done with this team. Until things are shaken up at HC, OC, DC, GM. I can no longer waste my time on a staff that refuses to play all the way to win. You can see the players body language in the second half on some of the play calling on both sides that they were set up to fail.

I was willing to give Schiano some slack till the end of the season because of how the defense has improved since he came, but no more. Bring in Lovie Smith, I’m sure a year off has cleared his mind on what to do, and it will be a homecoming for him too.

  15. Deminion Says:

Welp schiano just doesn’t play to win simple as tht… Sheridans D is predictable I hoping for 1 win but who knws… I’m just wanting schiano to get fired that would b a Win for the fans even tho it’s not on the field

  16. WalkdaPlank Says:

Well, the Bucs came to play 60 minutes of good football (well, mostly good football), too bad they didn’t come to play 85. This doesn’t change anything as for Schiano’s job security. He just yet again showed that he can’t hold a lead or compete in the second half. Glennon played great, Mike James played great, where the hell was Vincent Jackson? It was a nice run, but even if the Bucs had won that game everybody would have just been talking about how bad Seattle messed up, rather than how well the Bucs played. 3 points in the second half? Blowing a 21 point lead? Schiano is still gone, but promise has been shown and that’s a bright spot. At 0-8, it’s all we can look at, even if we win games from now on it’ll all be about how well Glennon played, or Mike James, or Darrelle Revis, etc.

  17. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I’d rather get blown out then keep losing like this. Worst part is, Schiano probably keeps his job because we kept it close. That’s apparently good enough. I really don’t know if we can win a game with this guy as our coach. He clearly doesn’t know how to win.

  18. oviedobucsfan Says:

I meant to say whom will Schiano blame and what are the consuequences. I blaming the aclhol.

  19. []_[]Buc Says:

It was Sully’s offense all game.

Get the hell out of here with that nonsense

Sully’s when it works Schiano’s when it doesn’t lol.

They all deserved to get canned.

    NOW

  20. complete embarrassment Says:

IN MY OPINION LEADING BY 21 AND NOT GETTING A W IS COMPLETE EMBARRASSMENT…FUNNY HOW THEY SCORED THE 3RD TD OF THE GAME AND I THOUGHT OUT LOUD THEY FIND A WAY TO LOSE…THAT IS WHAT THIS COACHING STAFF IS ALL ABOUT. NO WAY THEY CAN KEEP ANY LEAD… ONLY POSITIVE IS WE A GOOD QB NOW AND WE NEED TO GET A COACH TO LEAD THIS QB/TEAM…

  21. Snook Says:

“Greg Schiano doesn’t know how to win. It’s that simple.”

BINGO. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  22. Vincente Says:

Only won the bucs will get this year is when schiano gets fired.

  23. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I was proud to be a BUC FAN today, and our young players look very good! I believe we turned a corner this week and and the final score did not change my mind! GO BUCS!

  24. oviedobucsfan Says:

21 point lead at one point in the game…damn you chiano

  25. tone850 Says:

I wish we played Jacksonville this year.

Hell they can probably beat this team. As you can see just show in the 2nd half and you’ll know every play the offense is going to run and the defense’s scheme.

  26. JamesrunningWilder Says:

HOW? HOW does Seattle NOT get Called for a Blow to Glennon’s Head on 3rd Down with 25 Seconds left in the Game?!?!?!? What Bull Crap! That puts us at Seattle’s 40 Yard Line with 25 Seconds! HORRIBLE No Call!!!!!

  27. Bucsfan76 Says:

Another crap job by the coaching staff in the second half. I admit I was one of the “Freemanites”, but Glennon looked real good. If he had a real OC that could make the proper adjustments, he would have won this hands down. One game ball to Glennon, and the finger to Schiano and Sullivan.

  28. bucs55 Says:

We are been set. Up to fail there were two drives in the 4th that we were 3rd and 2 to go and we passed it when james is averagin more than 5 yards a carry to kill more clocl and win this was horrible play callin at the end this coachin staff has to go

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“It was Sully’s offense all game. ”

    ——-

Funny, that sure looked like a play sheet in Schiano’s hand in the fourth quarter. He sure seemed to be holding it up over his face. But I guess you have inside knowledge of who was calling the shots.

  30. LaughingStock II Says:

Better game. Still not good enough to win. 3 points in the second half is a dead give away of the outcome.

    8 more to go…

  31. Couch Fan Says:

Bad teams find ways to lose. I was wrong to think this team quit. Clearly it was the coaching. I rather of got crushed than lose like this.

  32. Snook Says:

Why do people want coaches fired mid-season? It doesn’t do ANY good. You get a lame duck coach who’s only there to mess up draft position.

Let Schiano finish the season. He’s a complete buffoon. And a guarantee at the #1 or #2 overall pick.

  33. Patrick Says:

They don’t deserve to have any fans after the abuse they put US LOYAL FANS through every Sunday!!!!! DISGRACEFUL.

  34. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Guys, the second half started near end of the first half. Seattle woke up and played their game. Had they started the game that way we would’ve lost by 40. We need a playmaker at QB. There are only two NFL QB’s who can play slow like Glennon and he ain’t one of them. Our D-line is still the weak link. We have one quality LB, no TE, one WR. We need an overhaul of the entire organization. New CEO, president, GM, and coaching staff…and lots of new players.

  35. JonBuc Says:

Another coffin in the nail of Schiano’s Buccaneer career…I hope/think. It’s so hard to watch this team right now…knowing a mistake and / or 2nd half kneeldown seems inevitable.

  36. Ramdog Says:

    Schiano is a moron.

The knock on him in College was he was incapable of making in game adjustment. Guess what same way in the pros, go figure.

Why did we have a College coach who was not known as a dominant or innovative coach??

Oh well we can get a good draft pick and a good Coach next year. Unfortunately, until then we will be tortured by absolutely moronic coaching that everyone who knows anything about football can point out on film.

  37. WalkdaPlank Says:

With Schiano it’s playing not to lose, rather with playing to win. I don’t want to watch any of that clowns press conferences this week. He sounded like a guy not knowing what the heck he was doing at the podium last week, don’t even want to put up with the crap excuses he’s going to pull out of his ass after a loss like this. 0-7 or 7-0 the Bucs were fully capable of winning this game and choked, simple as that.

  38. oviedobucsfan Says:

I agree with Bucsfan76, game ball to Glennon and my middle finger to Schiano, sullivan and Sheridan. Dominak gets my mandibles in his face.

  39. Anthony Gironda Says:

Throwing on 3rd down & 2 after Tandy interception? UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

  40. Bobby Says:

This is freakin’ hilarious! LOL!! Only 2 people posted prior to the game that we would win. TWO!! Everyone else predicted a blow out and now you act like you’re pissed we didn’t win?? Too funny! Fun to read the hypocrisy. You go into Seattle and take them to overtime you’ve played a good game. Should we have won?? Not according to 98% of you prior to kickoff.

  41. zam Says:

Always the same thing, this coaching staff isn’t smart enough to coach x’s and o’s at a professional level. Open and shut case.

  42. oviedobucsfan Says:

Those SOB Glazers want us to faill so they can move the team to London. Have them share a stadium with those peter pan manchested united fruities. Damn Glazers. Damn Schiano.

  43. dee Says:

That last field goal to end the game we had a time out right he didnt ice the damn kicker. prick

  44. Thomas2.2 Says:

You complainers are all clueless. That game was the best of all outcomes for a bucs fan.

The team played excellent vs probably one of the top 3 teams in the NFL on the road with the most difficult home crowd. The #1 RB and #2 receiver and best Olineman hurt, & with a rookie QB.

A win hurts your draft position, a well-played, hard fought loss doesn’t – and it still builds confidence.

There was SO much positive in that game I don’t have time to cover it all.

Yes, there were some conservative decisions made in the second half, but there always is. This MAY have been the game that starts the turnaround, we’ll soon see.

Anyone who had questions about Freeman vs Glennon needs to now just shut up and concede that you were wrong. Right now, Glennon is the better player, and without all the baggage.

Schiano haters will just hate, but he had the team very well prepared today for the league’s toughest opponent at home. Great job by the staff and players

  45. Jordan Says:

I like what I have seen with Glennon so far. I would feel very comfortable with the Bucs not taking a QB in the first round of the 2014 draft.

  46. Architek Says:

    Who cares anymore – really!

  47. Bobby Says:

Wow Thomas….i’m impressed! Great post! I thought so too. No moral victories in the NFL but much better game than the prior 7. Things are getting better. I said we’d have to play 4 quarters of solid football to win and we nearly did. Wilson just made some amazing throws and I tip my hat to Seattle.

  48. 911bucs Says:

    2.2

    You really don’t make sense

  49. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Bobby,

You are clueless. It doesn’t matter what we predicted prior to the game, we pissed away another win. It has happened game after game after game. The reason most people predicted us to lose is because we always find a way to lose with this moron of a coach. I could care less if we lose by 1 or by 100. A loss is a loss. A pissed away win hurts even more to me.

  50. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Bobby,

I bet you are a huge proponent of trophies and awards for all participants in athletics. I’m going to get you a trophy for being the most clueless fan in the league. Congratulations

  51. Architek Says:

Umm Thomas 2.2 did you watch the game and saw 3 points total scored in the second half?

  52. oviedobucsfan Says:

Those Glazers want us all in London driving on the wrong side of the road and sipping tea every hour on the hour. Have to take a plane across the atlanticx just 2 c my guys play some foootballuyhbbo

  53. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Can anyone with a straight face argue that the playcalling got ultra conservative in the second half? Does anyone think it is a coincidence that we continue to be unable to do anything offensively in the second half? Did anyone actually like anything we did in the second half?

But I guess for some of you, as long as the game was close, you are happy. That is a loser mentality, and frankly I’m embarrassed for you.

  54. DCBUCSFAN Says:

    @ Thomas 2.2 – BULLSPIT!

  55. oviedobucsfan Says:

I saw 3 points scored Architek. I also saw that damn Glazer laughing in the press box. Probably on the phone with the queen and prince charles making plans for bringing the Bucs to london. Yeah thats the big scam, the Glazers and Goodell backroom dealing to move the team to London and make more money. Its all about money. Make more money, drink more tea, drive on the wrong side of the road. Sneaky Glazers and goodell.

  56. 911bucs Says:

Interesting fact just heard on Football Night in America. Bucs last win DECEMBER 30th 2012. Straight up an embarrassment.

  57. oviedobucsfan Says:

I am calling Chris Berman and ratting out the Glazer-Goodell scam. The jig is up boys I am alerting the media. Yeah Glazer London is calling, its telling you that the bucs stay in TAMPA!

  58. Stranger Says:

I disagree with the Glennon love. The guy lacks whatever it takes to win football games, his deep ball is still questionable at best and he looked like a lost little kid when he had the chance to get the first. Why we would put the ball in his hands instead of the hands of James during an important 3rd and 2, is beyond me.

  59. stevek Says:

Glennon is better than Freeman, may the Freemanites concede that?

    Good points 2.2.

If we are going to go 1-15, I wanted the “1-” today.

  60. chipbuc Says:

I think Glennon played great today when he had a running game to help him. As soon as the game ,minus the running game is put in his hands only. Like the end of regulation, overtime ,he is unable to do anything. Not what you want in your Qb if you want to win.

  61. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Glennon played well, but he blew it on the last drive in regulation. He could have put his head down and got the first down, but he cut it outside to avoid the contact. We get a first down there, then pick up one more and we at least have an attempt at a FG to win.

  62. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Who in the hell cares if Glennon is better than Freeman? Why is that even an issue? We are 0-8! I’m so sick of hearing that crap, and I wanted Freeman out. It’s so stupid and petty, and it needs to stop.

  63. Adam L. Says:

Just move to London. I mean really, who will miss THIS.

  64. Cmurda Says:

If Glennon is better than freeman, that’s great. he’s in the mid 20’s as far as starting QBs go. If the thought is that Glennon is a franchise QB, then it will be a very long time before we actually have a franchise QB. There’s a reason he lasted until round 3.

  65. JonBuc Says:

I liked the offseason so much better because:

    A) There was ( a lot of ) hope
    B) Paralegal Tough talking Tommy 2 pump was banned from this site

  66. []_[]Buc Says:

    Many people care.

    Maybe you don’t,
    Doesn’t mean others do.

    The Freemanites are especially bitter.

  67. []_[]Buc Says:

    Dont*

  68. Bucsfan76 Says:

    @ JonBuc

Ahhhh yes, the 2013 offseason…..good times, good times!

  69. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Why would you care? Freeman isn’t coming back. So why does it matter? I don’t see any Freeman supporters screaming they wish Freeman was still here, nor do I hear them saying he is better than Glennon. They only people saying anything are Freeman haters. He’s gone, why keep hating? Go back and read the posts and show me a bitter Freemanite.

If you believe we should give Glennon the keys to the franchise, then I would choose to disagree. That doesn’t mean he’s terrible, nor does it mean that Freeman is better. But I don’t believe he is a franchise QB, and I guarantee you that most experts don’t either. Even if I did secretly believe that, I would wait until he at least won a game before I would pound my chest and state that he is better than someone else. He hasn’t done squat yet but lose. Again, not saying he is terrible or the reason we are losing, but I don’t see him as a long term solution. If you do, then I would draw the conclusion that you are happy we lost close today.

  70. Bucfan#37 Says:

Glennon is better than Freeman. He has some bad plays when he holds the ball too long. He is improving and played his best game so far. The Bucs played good, just not good enough.

  71. Capt. Tim Says:

I am starting to build a comfort level with Glennon- except for one reoccurring issue.
Glennons rating in first half- 153
Second half- didn’t hear- but I bet it was around 60

Has been that way all season

  72. bucthis Says:

come on people , get out og your Brain funk!! Give Seattle a bit of credit, how bout it! Seattle simply palyed better in the second half – eg they have better players…The Bucs don’t have the WRs, TEs for them to respect – no separation, quickness – Glennon did an Amazing job considering the environment and what he has to play with…Good to see Barron play up to his 7th pick grade…Bottom line, if Bucs had better outside containment and/or a QB Killer who could have gotten to him (can anyone say Clowney or BARR) we would be talking about a win tonight..

  73. Ed Says:

Glennon is a Matt Ryan type of QB. He needs a cleaner pocket , some better secondary targets and an offensive system that is more west coast. He could do well in a Patriots or Bronco’s style of offense.

The system the Bucs are running is very inflexible. They don’t have quick receivers, these guys don’t win the physical battles at the line of scrimmage to get open quickly. He ends up holding the ball or checking it down because there are no athletic targets getting open where he can quickly get the ball to them.

He has a quick release and is a smart kid but he is getting no help in passing downs, the line isn’t giving him a clean pocket to step up into.

  74. Bobby Says:

@Hawaiian…LOL! Whatever dude…at this point all I’m looking for is positives to build on. If you can’t see the humor in fans predicting Seattle to win by 21 pts. and then getting incensed when we lose by 3 in overtime then you are wound too tight my friend. I think it’s hilarious! We lost because we suck at tackling and we let Tate run back a punt which led to a score before half. We can’t contain on the edge for TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!! It wasn’t scheme….it wasn’t adjustments….it was just getting out played the second half once again. What did Seattle do different in the second half?? Nothing. They just made plays. Wilson made some absolutely ridiculous passes and Lynch was his usual beast self.

As for Glennon…he was 17/23 with 2 TD’s. You expect him to take the team on his back as a rookie in his 5th start in Seattle against the #1 pass defense in football? And you call ME clueless…..LOL! You are entertaining though. Keep posting. Always good for a chuckle.

  75. bucthis Says:

Thomas 2.2 – You are absolutely correct! ( is it ok I say that here?) You see kids, it is the best outcome to lose close to a top tier team – we can count it as a win within a loss – most important is the effect on Draft position, the teams ability is the same regardless of win or loss, however with a loss their drat position improves and hence the chance to get a Game changing player!
With Glennon playing better than any Rookie and to me has as much potential or more than Nick Foles who threw 7 TD’s today btw (not bad for a non- Franchise QB lol) this would allow the bucco’s to NOT pick a QB with that high 1st pick and take the Best Player in the Draft……..which would be Mr. Clowney – It’s a deep draft at QB…many good ones will be available in the 2nd round if they want competition for Glennon..

  76. bucthis Says:

Hey Yoo!! Lay off on Glennon! I’ve seen how Brady looks with people in his face – not too good! make him uncomfortable, he don’t like it – who does!! Same with Glennon, so this should not determine weather he is viable Buccaneer QB or not….I bet if you ask Wilson if he can be a quality NFL QB he would say Absolutely!! (friendship notwithstanding) You can have all the physical attributes in the world but if it not there from the neck up – your screwed baby!! That’s probably 80% of it – I think he has it and most important , his teamates, I believe, think it…hes a Rook… have some patience and Faith man!!!

  77. bucthis Says:

good analysis Ed – two thumbs up!

  78. bucthis Says:

Bobby, I totally agree with everything You just said – I think Hawaiian has let his emotions get in the way of his better judgment – he is a true Buc fan – so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt…

  79. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bobby

First of all, Tate’s run back came in the second half, not the first as you claimed. If you are going to try to make a point, at least get your facts straight. And it let to 3 points, so the defense actually handled that pretty well.

Hmmm, what did Seattle do different? They certainly fed Lynch more for starters. They certainly amped up their pass rush. They were able to get their WR’s some catches.

More appropriately, what did we do different? We went away from a highly successful running game when it mattered most. It’s as if we do the opposite of what common sense tells us we should do. Glennon never threw the ball downfield the entire second half, only dink and dunks. Do you not believe the coaching staff told him to do that? Glennon played well, and I give him credit for handling a tough situation like a veteran.

And yes, if you are 5-3 at halftime, yet lose every one of those games, that is adjustments. How come we have the only head coach in the history of the NFL to say out loud that you don’t make adjustments at halftime? You don’t find that a bit telling? But you just keep on believing that he’d doing a great job, and keep being happy we are “almost” winning games. I’ll stay unhappy until we actually win the game.

  80. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“We can’t contain on the edge for TWO WEEKS IN A ROW!!! It wasn’t scheme….it wasn’t adjustments….it was just getting out played the second half once again.”

    ——-

I want you to read that statement one more time to yourself and see how ridiculous that sounds. So you truly in your heart believe that not having contain two weeks in a row is not a lack of scheme or adjustments?? LOL, that’s EXACTLY what it is. That’s hilarious that you think losing contain has something to do with being outplayed.
