Jay Feely: “Tampa DLine Was Apologizing”

October 1st, 2013

Ironically, last night Greg Schiano said he would “like people to quit complaining” about the Bucs attempting to blow up the line of scrimmage to possibly disrupt the closing-seconds victory formation of their opponents. But it seems there are complaints — from Buccaneer Men.

Today, Cardinals kick Jay Feely took exception to Schiano’s explanation that his team was hungry to engage in the unorthodox and potentially dangerous play. Feely jumped on Twitter to say members of the Bucs’ defensive line apologized to Cardinals players for doing just that Sunday.

@jayfeely – Schiano said. “And if anybody saw it, Gerald McCoy was shaking his head telling [Arizona], ‘We’re coming” Tampa DLine was apologizing

During his Monday radio show, Schiano earnestly detailed that his defensive players want to do the unorthodox and potentially dangerous play. Schiano even made the point that he wants all fans to know his Buccaneer Men are on board.

“But most importantly, you know, I want everybody to know, our players, I ask our players, ‘if we don’t want to do this, we don’t do it.’ I mean, that’s where I am. I’m not going to force guys,” Schiano said. “Because is there’s always a risk involved? Sure. I mean there’s always a risk involved when you’re hitting other people. And I’m talking about a risk for our players.

“But, you know, when your players believe it can give you an opportunity, now why do they believe? Because they’ve seen the video. They’ve seen the ball on the ground in a situation that that shouldn’t happen. So I think that they understand if done correctly, there’s a good opportunity. …”

Joe really doesn’t doubt Feely here. Joe knows a handful of Bucs players were not happy with the end-of-game tactic when it was unveiled against the Giants in New Jersey last year. It’s reasonable to think the brotherhood of the NFL doesn’t like it, even if Schiano is getting a “yes-sir” response from his team.

I hate that play, it totally bush league and makes us look bad. We will know when Schiano has totally lost the locker, because we will see the D-line just take a knee at the end of a game.

Can one of the Glazers please put a call in to Lovey Smith?

  2. Young buc Says:

    Raheem would b 4-0 with
    This talent fire greg schaino

  3. bucbucbuc Says:

Add this to the list of lies from Schiano….what a joke. I’ve always backed the actual decision, but no need to lie about it.

I’m writing a letter to the Glazers. I’m sick of this mess.

  4. Nic Says:

What a mess. Who the hell do we replace him with though?

  5. lightningbuc Says:

Yeah, I hate that we have a coach that tries until the very end. I wish we had a coach that quit with a minute to play and who instilled in his players that it’s ok to quit.

    Further sissification of the NFL.

  6. MadMax Says:

Know what wouldve been better Schiano? Just call a run play like you had been doing for so much of the game, then punt it and hopefully pin them deep!

Thats where you guys need some work on your play calling. Theres times to be aggressive and times to be conservative.

  7. DCBUCSFAN Says:

@ Young Buc – you’re on point bruh!

  8. Raphael Says:

Toes on the unemployment line ……Fire Schiano !

The worst coach in the history of the Buccaneers !

    What a joke !

  9. Joke Says:

Joe, Feely wasn’t on the field for the play.

I don’t think his tweet is clear enough to really understand what he’s claiming.

The way I read it, he’s saying “no Schiano, your guys weren’t shaking their heads saying ‘we’re coming’ they were shaking their heads to apologize.”

It’s a good play, and a legal play, and the rest of the NFL just needs to deal with it. Joe hates the new defenseless receiver rules but likes some namby-pamby unwritten rule where you have to stop playing the game because that’s what the offense wants.
    Weak.

  10. MadMax Says:

and btw, Im referring to the play where Glennon threw the interception near the end of the game…

  11. bucfanjeff Says:

No problem with the play. History shows plenty of low percentage plays can change the outcome of a game with little time left.

  12. Patrick in VA Says:

    Color me shocked

  13. DCBUCSFAN Says:

This clown (Schiano) really needs to go! In the famous words of Shaq – “He is HORRIFUL” (Horrible and Awful). LoL

  14. Kryq Says:

Looks like McCoy doesn’t like the play either. Fire Schiano

  15. Young buc Says:

I bet if we were down. 3
    1 n goal at the 10
Schiano would play for o t
    Fact
    Fire greg schiano

  16. D-Rome Says:

I wish I could have been a fly on the helmet for that last play to hear our guys saying, “Sorry about this but our douchebag coach is making us do this pop-warner sh*t.”

  17. DCBUCSFAN Says:

    Glazer Family,

Please put the fan base out of its misery and fire this joke and his staff! You think attendance is bad now – you ain’t seen nothin yet!

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

Schiano is such a Delta Bravo. The guy is an habitual liar liar pants on fire. How much longer do we have to endure this Clown as our Head Coach???

  19. Elijah Says:

ya better say “Yes Sir” May I have another “Sir” around Lil’ Himmler.

  20. Splengo Says:

SMDH, This is going to come to an abrupt screeching halt. I got to take a break from this madness. Got an old school vinyl collection. Gotta put on the Impressions – “People get ready, there’s a train a’ comin”. Can’t wait til this sad saga of the Bucs is over.

  21. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Sorry excuse for a play. Try to win the previous 59 3/4 minutes. Going after someone’s knees is not right. Bush league. He didnt do it when the Pats took a knee(s) in Foxboro. Why not? Oh yeah, his buddy was coaching the other side of the ball.

  22. White Tiger Says:

So the players are beginning their revolt…what do you think the consensus will be when they will have some down time during the bye?

They will begin hanging out together, and the minute someone says “…man, do you really believe Schiano DIDN’T change the vote…?”

…it will be over. Schiano’s antics are conditioned and learned in the college sport. That sport is, well, collegial. Stuff like that goes on, nobody says anything, because the coach is king – especially at Rutgers. In the NFL, new head coach recently from Rutgers, and very recently of the “toes-on-the-line” infamy. This guy has already weakened the team, and they know he’s about to do it again, in a very similar fashion.

Don’t you remember EyeRah Kaufman telling you – before he was for the coach – he was against Gruden? Don’t you remember when Keyshawn crossed the field and shook hands with the opposing coach – Gruden benched Keyshawn?

…don’t you remember EyeRah Kaufman, Dr Stroud, and Woody telling you how WRONG that was for Gruden to create such a terrible atmosphere – and that he was losing the locker room?

Yeah, wonder why they’re NOT doing that now?

  23. buc4life24 Says:

Everyday there is another story surfacing, another scandal, another point that Schiano is a dueche-bag wannabe coach!

This is ruining our franchise everyday that goes by with this tyrant as our coach! The Glazers can’t be happy with the constent drama w/ their investment!

Pull the plug Glazers for the love of God!!!!!

  24. BigMacAttack Says:

The Coach is saying one thing, players are apologizing for his actions and saying something different. Does anybody truly believe this team is on the same page as their leader? No freakin way in hell. That locker room is in shambles and I’d guess doggone close to all out mutiny.

Keel Haul the Captain, I say!!! And then send him to the depths of Davie Jones’ Locker!!

    Arghhhhhh!

  25. Bucs4Life Says:

    @ Joe

This isn’t meant to be snarky, so don’t take it that way.

Are you concerned about the intermediate strength of your biz? Obviously the Bucs are a hot topic right now and that’s likely driving huge site traffic your way, which I’m psyched/hope you’re getting paid big bucks for. That said, are you starting to get worried about the damage the New Schiano Order is doing to your intermediate prospects? I’m a diehard fan and have spent a frankly embarrassing amount of time on your website over the years, but I’ve found myself too frustrated and too ashamed to even look at Bucs news anymore. I mean, I feel like you have a vested interest in what this fascist (Schiano) is going to your livelihood….he’s destroying the brand and image of the Bucs, while also driving fans away. I know it’s a bit of a stretch to assign blame, but this is his new order and responsbility falls on him. Frankly, I personally think he’s a dishonest con artist, but that’s for another day.

  26. buc4life24 Says:

The fans have a voice…..don’t show up to the games and show the front office we aren’t happy! I live in Vegas, but you fans in the bay area can make this happen.

Oh and a billboard could help our cause too……

  27. BigMacAttack Says:

One more thing about the POSchiano. DaQuan Bowers was pretty decent when healthy before this new regime. How many players have digressed since POSchiano took over the team? I’d say pretty much all of them are worse now for having known and worked for him. He sucks, we suck, everybody sucks. The guy is like a walking friggin plague. Everything he touches turns to $h!t.

  28. DCBUCSFAN Says:

@ Splengo – while you’re going through those old school LPs, dust off that Sam Cooke – A Change is gonna come!

  29. DWC2 Says:

Of course they are Yes Men you wouldn’t want un-named sources insinuating you had a drug problem would you?

  30. DCBUCSFAN Says:

@BigMAC – he will just get traded to NE – for 2 7th round picks where Bill will unleash his talent and turn him into an all-pro

  31. JonBuc Says:

McCoy is a good dude and turning into a hell of a player. The Bucs will need to re-do/extend his deal soon or he’ll be a huge cap # eyeballing free agency. Reason # 237 that Greg Shiano aka Alfred E. Newman needs to beat it. “What me worry?” Schiano has gone “Mad”. ( Old school references that may only resinate with about 10-20% of you. )

  32. Young-buc_361 Says:

I am from down south Texas and bought Directv just for my team (BUCS) next year I am planing a trip to Ramond James With my wife. I will always stay a Bucs fan, but Schiano is not the answer. Fire Schiano from one of the only Bucs fan in South Texas.

  33. Elijah Says:

    too funny^^^

  34. Elijah Says:

He looks just like Alfred E. Neuman. LMAO

  35. Hawaiian Buc Says:

How many more things have to come out before EVERYONE realizes how terrible Schiano is. He gets rid of talented (albeit not choir boys) players because they won’t be yes men. He leaks information to the media. HHe controls everything within the organization, including not allowing players to do non-authorized interviews. He yells like a lunatic to refs, players, and coaches constantly (and people wonder why we don’t get any calls and why we have a revolving door of coaches. He literally doesn’t answer any questions to the media and fans. He employs ridiculous pop warner coaching techniques (toes on the line). He is obsessive about room temperature and what type of noodles, instead of worrying about how we are going to score some points. He is literally the worst game manager of any coach I’ve ever seen (hence his unblemished mark of never winning a close game). Oh yeah, and he has a terrible record with a very talented team. Explain to me again why he’s our coach?

  36. Jason Says:

To everyone in support of this play please go read the rules of sportsmanship and gamesmanship. The cardinals were saying ok we won we are going to take a knee, after a Patrick Peterson interception where he could have possibly ran it back for a touchdown. It’s a gentlemanly gesture. I get the play hard for 60 minsutes yada yada yada but this “play” reeks of desperation in my eyes.

  37. Raphael Says:

    Hawaiianbuc ….spot on

  38. Camby Says:

Fire Schiano, then at the end of the season FIRE THAT TALENTLESS ASS MARC DOMINIK- bring in the assistant GM from Baltimore, Mike Zimmer, and have some professionals in here, not slimy buck passers who care more about not getting fired than they do putting a good team on the field.

I guess if WORST GM IN NFL gets fired, JBF will likely hang himself in some auto-erot1c way watching video of Dominik, and I can just permanently stop trashing him on here.

  39. Young buc Says:

    F$ck u schiano

  40. zam Says:

Sure I have a gun pointed to your head, but it’s up to you if you want to give me a bj.

  41. Hawaiian Buc Says:

As for this play, its ridiculous. When you’ve got a guy like Bruce Arians upset about it, you know it’s wrong. It will absolutely never work in a million tries in the NFL. An NFL QB is not going to fumble a kneel down snap, because that’s literally the only thing he has to do (handle the snap). It just gives us another play or two for someone to get hurt. We’re lucky nobody got hurt last year when the Giants were pounding on our heads for doing it. We are diving at people’s knees!! The players hate doing it, but they don’t have a choice. It’s a total embarrassment for our team, fans, and organization. Everyone is going to see that it will never work, because as long as Schiano is going to coach, you’ll be seeing a lot of it. He’s got to go, and yesterday.

  42. Jim Says:

I will stop complaining when Schiano is fired!

  43. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I’m really curious, is there anyone on this site that can honestly say they see Schiano turning this thing around? You think it’s just going to go way when Freeman is gone? You really think he’ll be the last player jettisoned by the lunatic? Do you see any great free agents wanting to be a part of this team next year? You think players like McCoy are going to want to re-sign with us? Any good coaches you can think of that would want to be a part of this fiasco? There’s only one way this is going to end. Why prolong it and have him continue to tear down the organization? This nonsense we are dealing with now will never end as long as this guy is our leader. It’s only going to get worse.

  44. KMAC1322 Says:

Has this ever worked in the NFL??? This is a damn high school type play, I dont even see this in College anymore!

  45. Joke Says:

    @Jason:

Tell me exactly where to read the “the rules of sportsmanship and gamesmanship”, and I’ll go do it. Also, are you sure that gamesmanship means what you think it means?

And no, Peterson didn’t go down to be a good sport, he did it because it gave them the best chance to win. Cards could run out the clock, and Bucs could do nothing (except Schiano’s attack-the-victory-formation play), giving Cards best chance to win. If Peterson runs with it, he risks fumbling. If he scores, the Bucs get the ball back. Even though the would’ve been down 10, that situation (down 10 with possession) is better than no possession and no timeouts and other team able to run out clock even without a first down.

So not a sportsmanship move, just a shrewd move that gave AZ the highest possible chance of winning.

  46. jb Says:

Love the Alfred E. Newman refrences. Too bad we can’t post a photo of them side by side. lmao

    Joe??????????

  47. 1976 Paper Bag Look in 2013 Says:

I did not see the game for I live outside of the area. But I was unaware of the kneel down situation and to be honest I am very, very embarrassed of it. I agree with Tim can one of the Glazers please put a call into someone I do not know if Lovey Smith is the guy but I am sure Schiano is not the guy moving forward? This must change NOW!!!!!!!!!!! DEEPLY EMBARRESSED BUC FAN……..

  48. White Tiger Says:

Got news for ya crew…Schiano isn’t doing this in a vacuum…

This plan was committed to in the offseasin, about the time the coach got the man of his dreams, in the 3rd round of the NFL draft…

If you don’t think Dom knows he’s tied to the coaches tenure…think again.

You either have the right QB in the wrong system, or you have wrong, dishonest, low-character men, running your franchise.

Anyway you slice the Limburger…somethings gonna stink in Tampa for a long time.

  49. BirdDoggers Says:

The players wouldn’t be playing for very long if they didn’t run the plays as the coaches call them. For the sake of their jobs, they run the play. Schiano doesn’t strike me as the guy that would put too much stock in his players feedback. If he did, he might be inclined to scrap the play. This would be a good reason why the players reportedly don’t agree with his coaching style.

  50. BFFL Says:

I was a Schiano supporter but have now changed my opinion. I don’t know the situation but looking from the outside it just appears that this guy is one big asshole that micromanages everyone. That’s perfect for college, but the NFL requires intelligence above all. There’s not one system that fits all in the NFL. The head coach must scheme to attack the other teams weakness. This guy just goes out every Sunday with the same game plan.

  51. Sebas Says:

    Marty schottenheimer!!

  52. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I never had a problem with them doing it. We pay for a full game of effort. Taking a knee is cheating me out of money.

  53. BucfaninMi Says:

its just like running up the score,if you dont like it, stop it. there is time on the clock, you play till zeros!!! quit being pussies. as for lovie, no way!!!! Marty ok. our team maybe dysfunctional, but so are some of you!! i question some of your fanhood.

  54. Illuminati Says:

I like the play. The victory formation was intended as a way to safely run out the clock when the game is out of reach for the other team.

A three point lead is not out of reach. Why should one team just quit playing because the other team decides to anoint themselves the winner?

  55. Eric Says:

Man is the big dog unloading on Schiano or what.

    Wow!

  56. BigMacAttack Says:

Eric I missed it today. Was he making good points or just hammering him on general principles?

  57. arealbucsfan Says:

    Lets hire Kevin Sumlin

  58. Capt. Tim Says:

Now McCoy is gonna suffer the Wrath of the lil Emperor!!
Feely ratted him out for applogizing!!!

Just watch! That lil ego maniac will be out to get him next!!

  59. Capt. Tim Says:

Now McCoy is gonna suffer the Wrath of the lil Emperor!!
Feely ratted him out for applogizing!!!

Just watch! That lil ego maniac will be out to get him next!!

  60. Bobby Says:

Does anyone actually see Schiano turning this thing around?? Of course. You morons act like we’re getting blown out in every game or something. We have one of the best defenses in the league and we just need to get the offense going. How the heck do you know Schiano micromanages everything? “Well that’s what so and so says” BS. We are where we are for one reason and one reason only…we have failed to close out three games in the closing minutes. Blame the offense, blame the defense, blame Schiano, blame Freeman, whatever….it is what it is. I look for us to come out firing on all cylinders after the bye.

If you actually think the Glazers give a rats ass what you think you have to be dumber than dumb. Your congressmen and the president, they listen to the people real good too don’t they….. People in power do what they want to do and they have the money to be patient and not make knee jerk decisions. Well, actually, your congressman and the president just don’t give a crap. As for the players… They know they are close to having this thing rolling. I don’t believe for a second that they’ve given up. It’s like a friggin’ whiney cry baby party on here. Get four or 5 posters that wanna cry and the tears just start to flood. I’m amazed the letters aren’t smeared and running on some of your posts.
