Glennon Talks Schiano Bonding, Leading & More

October 16th, 2013

The face of the Buccaneers, rookie QB Mike Glennon, had his weekly media session today and shared all kinds of thoughts, from growing with fellow rookie Tim Wright to learning the detailed Bucs offense.

Joe asked Glennon to expound on the loving bonding he and Greg Schiano have been engaging in on the sidelines. Glennon explained that Schiano always ribs him about how he should have gone to Rutgers, and Glennon countered Sunday during the Eagles game, following a couple of big scrambles, that he should have gone to Oregon.

Like he said, if and when he gets a chance to run, it will open up the D. But usually they’re counting on him not to…..but thats quick thinking on his part. Like I said before, a lot of you hating on him can hate, but he’s a fast thinker and he was making throws in his 1st starting NFL game that I KNOW Gosh wouldve failed at.

  2. Young buc Says:

    Madmax get off freeman nuts

  3. Drew Says:

Does not come across as coach hating.

  4. Frank Says:

    Madmax is right

  5. Buc1987 Says:

Calm down Young Ra-phael buc. Get over Freeman and support your effing team already. Either that or put a purple jersey on and be done with it already.

  6. BucsFan68 Says:

All the bonding in the world is for squat if the Bucs don’t get Ws. If theeason continues spiraling down, Schiano and Glennon will be bonding outside of One Buc.

  7. Patrick Says:

Look, I hope Glennon works out, I really do. But if he stinks and doesn’t pan out, Schiano better not pass on the upcoming quaterback class. Bridgewater, McCarran, Mariotta, Murray, possibly even Manziel…….we’ll be in position to draft at least one of those guys. I hope Schiano isn’t married to this kid from NC State.

  8. bucsfan1979 Says:

WOW chickster can’t spell it’s ( GLENNON not GLENNEN) Glennon MOB Fan go get a vikes jersey that says FREEMEN i mean Freeman. Damm i hate that.

  9. K_bassuka Says:

Maybe instead of BSing about college BS Glennon and sorry @ss Schiano should’ve been committed 100% at trying not to get beaten by a mediocre team.

God, I can’t wait for this nightmare to end. Fire Schiano

  10. Jeb Buc Says:

Madman I confused? You like Glennon or freeman?

  11. MadMax Says:

    Glennon…..quick thinking=Glennon

    Gosh=Josh, freefree=Josh

  12. Capt. Tim Says:

Albert Einstein was a quick thinker!
    Terrible QB!

Being Smart is an asset. Glennon has it!
    Quick release- yup.
    Likeable guy- yup.

    Game manager- meybe.
Franchise QB/ Super Bowl QB. – probably not

  13. JonBuc Says:

    Bill Walsh & Montana

    Belicheat & Brady

    Schiano & Glennon “Championship(s)”!

  14. MadMax Says:

Come on Capt. It takes time…..they wasted 4 years on Gosh.

Of course theres also many other factors that come into play…..you know, being responsible with the brain and body while young and those $$ in the bank. I trust Glennon with that area 100%. The rest that follows will tap his potential to test it.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Has anyone ever watched Sound FX on NFL Network when they have “franchise QB’s” wired up? Guys like Br-ady, Brees and a few others. I have watched them before and their mouths are constantly going whether they are on the field or on the sidelines. That to me is a leader. Does anyone wonder if Josh ever did stuff like that, fire up his team the way a “franchise QB’ should? Because I never saw him do any of that, no fire, no passion, just blah.

  16. MadMax Says:

Exactly Buc1987, I dont think it was ever in him. I LOVE Brady’s fire….its actually working.

Glennon has to Grow through those pains. And I think he’s very capable. Remember, Brady was a 6th rounder….Wilson a 3rd. Will Glennon be our guy? Too early to tell. But we have to give him time. I hope he is! Now as far as GM and the rest, uhg on that front.

But Glennon has a lot of potential. And if he ends up not working as a 1st, he’ll surely be a quality backup if we decide to go after a QB next draft.

But if he really grows like Im expecting him to, we can address other needs with that 1st pick of ours.

  17. MadMax Says:

    test…..my posts arent posting :/

    Trying again:

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Max…you have to figure out which words are filtered. Some words like Br-ady will not go through without the – in the middle.

  20. MadMax Says:

    Bingo…..good grief, why? lol

Drinks on me when I come down there Buc1987…..thanks for that 🙂

  23. Splengo Says:

This week will be the end of the Glennon coming out party and frankly a game that we should win. Glennon has shown promise but the next 2 games following the Falcons will be a test by fire for the young QB.

The Panthers and the Seahawks have 2 of the best front sevens in the NFL and the Seahawks might have the best secondary in the NFL. If he can hold manage to handle the rush and the blitzing pressure of those teams he will have come a long way in getting his union card. Those games will tell us a lot about whether he will be here long-term.

If we can’t beat the Falcons in the shape they’re in now, I can’t safely predict another win this season. I hope the kid comes thru!

  24. MadMax Says:

@Splengo, I cant predict another win period at this point. But dont be so quick to judge the kid. He’s a friggin rookie thrown out there. And @ the Seahawks? Shoot, elite QB’s have a time with them.

Thats why I posted under another article that this season is done. Might as well allow Nicks and Joseph plenty of time to heal. Go easy on Revis. And for Christ’s sakes stop running Doug to death!!! drives me friggin crazy watching them run him like that with a battered O line when the box is overloaded!!!

  25. Mr. Patrick Says:

So Josh Freebow gets to make his 1st start with his new team against a very bad winless team with a horrible secondary. Nice

If Glennon doesn’t pan out, Schiano won’t be the coach drafting the next quarterback.

  27. Capt. Tim Says:

Josh’s first game was against the Packers. We were 0-5, and defense was ranked 32 in league.
Josh beat the Packers. A good team

I like Glennon. I’ve been hard on him, but he has his talents. He’s smart, fast release. Decent in pocket against rush so far. Accurate up to 15 yards.
He has skills, meybe enough to be a starter.

But there is a key to judging QBs. You can listen to how he is discribed by pro personnel people. They say he is a good QB, Blah, blah.
But what they will never say- is”Franchise QB”
That is a rare collection of talents- that comes along rarely.
Many successful starters weren’t ” Franchise QBs”.
To get that tag- you have it all. Size, strength, huge arm, Mobile, can throw a frozen rope 30′ down field , to the sideline.

They are Rare, and basically flawless. It is a discription that is over used draft day- but rarely after that.

In our long history, we have had 4 guys that carried that title. And we’ve blown it everytime
Doug Williams- perhaps our worst screw up, led us to NFC championship, but Culverhouse wouldn’t pay him
Won Super Bowl with Redskins. Not Bucs

Steve Young- horrible coaching( Leeman Bennett), wanted to change him to a Fullback. Cheap owner- talentless team
Young left as soon as he could
Won multiple SuperBowls for 49ers- not Bucs

Vinnie Testaverde- cheap owner- refused to pay for talent to help Vinnie.
Vinnie Stayed to long, but still had a great career with Jets, and lead them to Playoffs

And lastly, Josh Freeman. Bad coaching, or bad attitude.
    Time will tell

4 guys, and we blew it.

Glennon is a smart guy- but not a Franchise guy. Not gonna review his weaknesses- but enough for teams to contain him.

    Time will tell

Speaking of which, it turns out Carl Nicks listened to Amanda Tynes in regards to seeking an outside of One Buc Place opinion on his MRSA infection. NFL.com is reporting that Carl Nicks had surgery to treat it.

News flash: Joe reported the surgery about 15 hours ago and that Nicks should return in November. –Joe

  29. chickster Says:

Freeman didn’t have a chance here and this coach is an f liar and whats worse so is the Gm it will be hard pressed to shine in this offensive system for any Qb and specially if the coach doesn’t want you here you will all find out monday night

Clearly I missed it. I check in about 3x a day.

  31. Bucsfanman Says:

News flash: Josh Freeman plays for the Vikings. Why are we still talking about Freeman? If he lights it up, who cares. If he flops, whatever. Whether he WAS the guy is irrelevant.
Right now, Bucs fans, Mike Glennon is your guy. Get behind him and take the lumps(he’s a rookie, there will be lumps!).
    Go Bucs, pluck the Birds!
