Derrick Brooks Says “It Pained Me”

October 25th, 2013

Bucs icon Derrick Brooks lives locally, works locally, counsels Lavonte David and bleeds pewter and red. So needless to say Brooks is very troubled.

Brooks said he stood on the sidelines for last night’s game and “I saw a very dejected team.” And Brooks said it marked the first time at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway he every heard fans chant to fire a coach.

Speaking to former teammate and ex-Bucs guard Ian Beckles on WDAE-AM 620 today, No. 55 went on to say he takes the state of the Bucs very seriously and he’s nearing an all-time low.

The level-headed Brooks shares his gloom and doom in the audio below.

  1. Oahubuc Says:

Anyone who upsets that man should be fired immediately. So, Dominik is years overdue.

I agree with Florio’s take that there’s no way Schiano can be on employed after Seattle if they want the Monday night game not to be hijacked by the true fans- by that I mean the angry ones.

  2. Couch Fan Says:

Watching this mess of a team pains us to Mr Brooks. I dread game days this year.

  3. Justin Says:

Oahubuc is right. The Glazers cannot and wont let Schiano coach that Monday night game.

Unless they wanna see a riot break out with guys dressed up like Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

  4. chickster Says:

the whole thing is out of control I am sure one thing this coach wants to win but his style does not work in the nfl but this is not a feel sorry for me league and I for one feel sorry for this guy but enough is enough and he has to move on and soon

  5. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I want ya’ll to think back to how much Bruce Allen (The Cap Guru) lift DOM when he was fired ($44mill)

  6. Westsidebucsfan Says:

At this point, I will take Jerry Sandusky for our coach instead of Schiano.

  7. scott hunter Says:

    west side……hillarious

  8. BirdDoggers Says:

Unfortunately, this team is a long way from being the team Brooks played on in the glory years. Oddly enough, the current team has some resemblance on the defensive side of the ball though. A sideline to sideline linebacker, a defensive tackle that pushes the pocket and commands double teams, a hard hitting safety and a talented cornerback. Sound familiar?

The only way to explain the terrible results is coaching and ineffective schemes.

  9. Mike Says:

I’d takes Brooks at this point! Not as a player but a coach! Anything to help our team win. This season sucks great big donkey B****!

  10. Jim Says:

The ONLY positive thing for the fans last night was seeing Brooks, Sapp, Booger and Rice standing on the sideline visiting with eachother. Shame is has been so long since we could be proud to be a Bucs fan.

  11. BirdDoggers Says:

    LUVMYBUCS,

Dominik started his tenure as GM by unceremoniously releasing one of the greatest players in team history and a fan favorite. I’ve been critical of Dominik at times and I’ve also given him credit for the positive things too. Regardless of how/when his career in Tampa ends, I will always remember how it started.

  12. Andrew 1 Says:

I appreciate the fact that Brooks “cares to much”, as Sapp puts it. and who knows, sometime (maybe in the near future) he might rejoin this team in a front office role and help us become better. God Bless you Brooks. in the mean time we are just going to have to fight through this. my gut tells me that Schiano wont make it to the end of the season.

  13. Big Picture Guy Says:

Derick Brooks has spent the last 2 years as President of the Storm, and is a first ballot HOFer. We need people who know football running this franchise, not the 3 headed Glazer Chimaera.

Hire him as President of Football operations for the Bucs (come on, he’s the freaking “The Don!”) and have him lead the search to hire the next coach. Keep Dominik if you want, I could go either way w him.

Who else than Mr Derrick Brooks could have a better chance of rebuilding this franchise? This team has talent, it needs accountability.

  14. JonBuc Says:

Why not bring in Brooks as the Broncos have brought in Elway? Brooks has some executive experience I believe ( might be Arena…same as what Elway had ). He’s Mr. Buccaneer…damn smart…and would at least die trying.$hitcan Dom & Dumber…and have The Amish/Glazer Boys plead with him hat in hand. I’m serious…just as this situation has become.

  15. Paul Says:

Still can’t believe that Dominik thought Geno Hayes was an upgrade.

  16. PRBucFan Says:

I feel like the horror won’t end.

I’m refreshing these pages in vain as I hopelessly wish to see the story that shows that the Glazers have finally showed they care.

Spending these past two seasons is not enough, they have to make a statement with this next coaching hire.

  17. PRBucFan Says:

Just got an alert of my phone saying McCoy is upset with fans treatment of Schiano.

  18. cody Says:

I was rooting for Schiano to turn things around but it looks like things have begun to snowball on him to the point that we now have a full fledged avalanche. I don’t think Schiano’s a bad coach, he’s just not an NFL caliber coach (yet)…Pete Carroll had to get fired twice (Jets & Patriots) before he figured it out…

Bye Bye Greg; you can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather (especially in Tampa Bay)…It’s time to hire a real NFL coach…I personally would love to see Lovie Smith here…I always thought he did a lot with less up in Chicago…

  19. passthebuc Says:

First prize was 4 tickets to the next home game.
    Second prize was 12 tickets.

  20. PRBucFan Says:

“If you want to be angry about the game or what’s going on, be angry because we’re angry too. But don’t disrespect him as a man. That man has a wife. He has kids at home. We have wives and kids. Just keep it to football. When you disrespect a man as a person, then you’re taking it too far.”

-Tampa Bay Buccaneers DT Gerald McCoy

  21. Skelly Says:

I love GMC. He is so naive at times its cute. He has a problem with the way fans treated schiano. Hey GMC…..Heads up, fans have a problem with how our beloved squad and our hard earned season tickets dollars have been spent for…ummm, say 5 years now.

And as consumers, Gerald, when we invest our money into something, we get to have opinions about the value we receive in return. If you’d rather not hear boo’s to your coach maybe you can lobby the glazer boys to put comment cards under everyones seat before each game and then after a loss, the team can walk through the crowd and gather them up from the 4 fan’s still in the stadium. Wake up buddy, and keep your head down Gerald. You don’t want to get caught up in the coming crossfire. You’ll thank us later.

  22. Capt. Tim Says:

Well, I’m just glad that at last we are all in agreement.
    1) Schiano is in way over his head, and is to arrogant to change
    2) he is using his schemes- regardless of or players- and it’s not working.
    3) we need a new coach

Last night was horrible. Despite everything- I can’t boo my own like that. Their was a lot of rage in that stadium. I thought those of us here were the hard core.
Apparently- there are some fans that are seriously too invested in a sports team. They were way to nasty and angry.
Even to those here, who live it- it’s still just a damn game . An amusing diversion.
Not so with some last night. It was religion.
    Not Pretty

  23. Skelly Says:

Taking it too far….Hilarious. Could you imagine what Philly fan’s would be doing this guy…..

  24. Capt. Tim Says:

    By the way
    When it comes to Schiano

I told you so! Nah nah, nah nah!

That is to those of you who said I was a smuck for being critical of the new coach
You know who you are! Lol

  25. Skelly Says:

Capt Tim – with all do respect. Comments like, go ahead and go away fan’s and we’ll take you back when later. Or fan’s show up at 5am if you want to show us how to coach a team… Have really fan the flames. I am not saying its justified for people to get nasty. I certainly don’t. But this fan base has been screwed a little to often and I get that their are those among us who have had it.

After all, this is the NFL… Not pop warner. Players and Coaches need to grow a pair.

  26. Capt. Tim Says:

Went to playoff game in Philly with 5 friends. All very competent military.
It really felt like it could have turned into a very dangerous situation .

I wouldn’t advise it. And I wouldn’t want to be a public figure there.

  27. J. Says:

[J: Joe has a business partnership with Clear Channel. You call Clear Channel on-air personalities names, comments will disappear. Continue, and all your comments will disappear, no matter the subject. You man disagree with a Clear Channel on-air personality, and that is fine. Get personal, comments will not appear. It’s really quite simple. — Joe.]

  28. Capt. Tim Says:

    Agree with you, Skelly-100%

But Tampa tends to be pretty civil, and kind of laid back.
    Not last night.

  29. PRBucFan Says:

    Skelly

I don’t think any coach has been hated by a fan base as much a Schiano has in recent history lol.

And so far all anyone has been valid about is that he can’t cut it as a coach in the NFL.

As far as going beyond football there is no place for that.

And “I told you so” about Freeman so I guess we are even. 😉

  30. Skelly Says:

Agreed. In club seats for Philly game and after every buc’s play there was about 20 people in ear shot of my seats yelling stuff at Schiano. Never heard that before. I just think people have had it and this dude is such a lightning rod, people just say whatever they want.

Hope the Glazers are paying attention. Most of this has to do with Greg being an ass but much of it has to do with team just sucking for too long and everyones fed up. I know I am for sure.

  31. Couch Fan Says:

Lil Timmy you are still a schmuck. But you were right about Schiano. The guy is horrible. I also agree with GMC. Some fans are acting ignorant and disrespectful and there is no need for that. The man knows he is winless and he knows how much the fans dislike him.

In other news, Freeman is getting pounded for yet another ridiculous statement Lol.

  32. Cmurda Says:

    Who’s my favorite player?

After firing the Schiano regime, Double Nickel should be hired as a LB’s coach at the very least.

  33. DomsAdvisor Says:

Josh Freeman said he was nervous.

  34. Cmurda Says:

    Capt Sir Tim,

I agree that some fans take an entertainment source. As a guy that wasn’t in the stadium, I can tell you it didn’t seem that bad on T.V. I’ve seen fans far more unruly than our fans were last night. With that said, Schiano has got to go. I think if he were getting canned this week, it likely would have happened already. If, as expected, the Seahawks take it to us, it has to be inevitable at that point. Monday night at home with a lot of pissed off fans makes for a bad situation.

  35. Cmurda Says:

…take an entertainment source way too far….

  36. nate Says:

    Derrick brooks for gm

  37. Buc1987 Says:

Well I just completed my stupid survey that the team sent season ticket holders in an e-mail. It was mostly about concessions and seating and approval rating them and sh!t. Until the end where we get to write stuff. Of course I told them that as a season ticket holder that part of the reason I bought season tickets was because of all the blacked out games. That when the owners just chose to put all the games on TV it just pissed me off even more than I was already at the team. I asked for free parking or something. I also told them that I was the guy that went down close to the field and removed my season pass swipe card and threw it on the field and how much the crowd around me roared with approval. Then of course I told them how I walked around the entire stadium in the 4th having fans wanting to take pictures of me and with me and my This Sucks sign. I got my picture taken so many times it was a lot of fun for my drunken ass. When all else fails with your team try to have fun I guess. If I said 300 people took pictures of me and that sign that would be an understatement. I let them know all this sh!t in the survey. I also asked them how much that sign would help their bottom line. Of course I ranted about the coach as well. I asked for a big name coach and for the owners to start caring about this team again when it comes to coaches or change their name to Culverhouse.

  38. Capt. Tim Says:

Couch, thanks( sorta!) lol. At least the “lil” is appreciated.
Lil, petite, etc are all words that aren’t the adjectives I hear!

Cmurda- it was the things they were saying. Instead of the Usual” you sucks”,
It was a ” go kill yourself”, ” drop dead” , and things I was kinda surprised to hear at a Tampa event.

Im a tape junkie. As such, Ive been one of his earliest critics. I detest his rotten Offensive and defensive schemes. They are doomed to fail- and have gotten us in this humiliating Predicament.

But, geez, I don’t hate the Man. And really don’t enjoy seeing anyone fail at something they are passionate about. Or seeing someone get fired.

I want him and his staff gone.
But that wouldn’t stop me from drinking a beer with.

I sure wouldn’t wish harm on him or his.

    It’s a game

  39. Buc1987 Says:

Capt Tim yah I went over by the bench side and heard all kinds of horrible things being said at the coach. Well even I at one point leaned over the railing and “Schiano you f*#king suck ass.” Then I looked down from the railing and I saw a family with kids and the mom staring up at me shaking her head. I said to her “I’m soooo sorry about that.” Then I went on my way with my sign carrying it about and fielding pictures.

  40. Buc1987 Says:

The next game is a poster board statement for Gruden on Monday Night Football. It’s going to say. We’re Sorry Jon Please Come Back. Also bringing a 20 foot banner for Sapp (my favorite Buc of all time) that’s going to read Forever #99. Forever in black and #99 in red. I got to have some kind of fun somehow at these damn games if they are going to go 0-16.

  41. Cmurda Says:

LOL @87. I know the feeling. It’s just raw emotion. Obviously you didn’t mean it and at least noticed it. Besides, you just said the truth with an added F Bomb.

Agree with you though Tim. It’s a different story when you can hear the little things said and some of them are way too far.

  42. Capt. Tim Says:

I haven’t met the man. I hear from people that have- that he’s an arrogant ass. If so. I’m sure this is a lesson in humility.
    Occasionaly, we all need that!

One of us posted on another article- that he had met Schiano last year- and he was a really great person.

I will probably never know. I do know he has done a terrible job, and deserves to be fired.

I also know he has a wife and kids. This has to be a bad time for them.

  43. Eric Says:

Hire Brooks as GM and his first task is to tell Dominik to leave the building.

  44. BucsQcCity Says:

How can I be sorry for a guy who will make 50 times in 2 years, because he isn’t coming back (and if they are dumb enough to continue with him I’m quitting for good) what I will never make in a lifetime?

If he wants Respect he should start to take a good look in the mirror..

I agree with other posters that Brooks would give instant credibility to the Glazers, the franchise and the locker room. Brooks is the ultimate Buccaneer man

  45. Capt. Tim Says:

I tell you. Last night made me make sure to say this.
I have had long, heated arguments with some of you. Hawaiian, Eric, etc.
    Lately, couch and PRbuc.
And even though we may be on polar opposite sides of an issue- I know you are all passionate Buc fans, and I respect all of you as such.

Hard to believe people wishing Death on a guy, over a game.

  46. Skelly Says:

Brooks firing Dom would be pretty great poetic justice…Not gonna happen though. I have this sneaking suspicion that as much as us fan’s seem to believe that Dom is gone, Joe may be right and he survives.

  47. Eric Says:

Schiano was very nice in the Gandy bait shop.

Maybe he has a future in the bait industry. Don’t really matter if you yell at shrimp or pinfish, and bait shop folks can be grumpy as hell in my experience.

    Could be a good fit.

  48. Bucfan#37 Says:

A good way to voice displeasure to crappy gameplay would be no fans at the stadium. Eat the loss. Watch them on tv. That will wake up the Glazers.

  49. Capt. Tim Says:

    Eric
Brooks firing Dom would vindicate perhaps the greatest injustice in Buc History!

Plus, it’d be funny as hell! Is buy it on pay per view!

  50. Splengo Says:

    Couch Fan/Buc1987,

You guys know who started the strategy to fire Schiano. I’m just listening. No need to keep throwing gasoline on a fire that’s already aflame. Just wanted you to know that I ain’t gone yet. Just a little while longer and my work will be done! Lol.

  51. Buc1987 Says:

“I have this sneaking suspicion that as much as us fan’s seem to believe that Dom is gone, Joe may be right and he survives.”

Yah sure Skelly Joe is never wrong about who survives….

LMAO @ the Brooks firing Dom scenario. I’d probably laugh for about a week over that.

  52. Eric Says:

Doug Williams is available to help Brooks.

  53. Buc1987 Says:

Eric ….help Brooks with what? Coach?

  54. Eric Says:

No frog march dominik out of the building! A five minute assignment.

  55. Andrew 1 Says:

    Schiano fired!!!!

  56. Andrew 1 Says:

    lol just kidding, couldn’t resist.

  57. Buc1987 Says:

    Eric LOL phew….
