“A Coach’s Worst Nightmare”

October 3rd, 2013

Super Bowl winning coach turned FOX analyst Brian Billick weighed in on all things Bucs this morning on the Ron and Ian show on WDAE-AM 620.

Billick took a very analytical approach to the mayhem swirling around the Bucs but said it’s a “coach’s worst nightmare” while trying to find a way to win a game. There’s plenty more, including Billick explaining how the Bucs could be working on building a case to suspend Josh Freeman without pay. Enjoy!

I was fine with benching Freeman, he hasn’t played well enough to fend that off. The way they’ve benched him though… vomit. Just cut him, suck up the contract, and move on.

If they suspend Free without pay then to hell with the lot of them. Stop this kindergartener crap, and stop trying to screw over our players like you already did with Tynes.

I’m really, really beginning to absolutely loathe this front office. This is not how you run a professional team.

  2. Couch Fan Says:

This all Freemans fault. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut, collect a pay check and do his job. But he choose to run off at the mouth… justice is served! Take that Freebow!

  3. Stevek Says:

Freeman and the Bucs should man up and meet in the middle, only pay Freeman 3/6 million remaining.

If Freebow loves football enough he would take this deal, and if the Glazers had any pride and scoop tabulate they would make this deal.

We are the worst team in football with the shitiest QB situation in the land.

Dominick, where is our depth and TE? MEDIOCRE MARK should go before Schiano.

    Yup.

I wonder what Jadeveon Clowney would say?

  6. bucsQcCity Says:

If he thinks it’s a coach worst nightmare, he should try to be a buc fan nowaday…

I think it’s time to apply Schiano it’s own “performance-based” medecine and cut him.. Looking at the tape, there’s no evidence since last year that we was a positive factor at any point or that the trends is toward success under its regime

  7. Bobby Says:

Had to laugh when Ron and Ian tried to bait Billick by asking him about taping the players on the sideline and Billick said “Yeah, I can see how that could be useful if you’re trying to show players how their behavior affects the team.” That was NOT the answer they were looking for. LOL!

I don’t know what tape you are looking at but the Bucs lost 3 games by a combined total of 6 points. In 1 of those games we held the Saints to 16 points and 1 TD. I think we may have the best defense in the NFL except for maybe Seattle and it’s only going to get better. If we can get the offense on track we are going to win a lot of games. Perhaps you’ve been watching the Jaguars tape by mistake???

  9. Draggo Says:

unless the Bucs modernize their offensive game plan, I don’t see us fooling anyone.

  10. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Ron and Ian quickly changed topics when that happened!

Personally, I never felt Freeman should have been benched, but with all that’s happened they need to cut him. His contract was already in the budget anyway.

I am starting to believe that both Dominick and Schiano are history. The press is tearing this team apart and neither of them are addressing anything. Dominick is the invisible man.

(kind of makes me wonder if Dom is trying to find a new coach behind closed doors)

I believe all of these little stories are generated by the press, former players and former coaches.

Take the stage one drug program. Mort’s source could have been any one of the coaches no longer with the team…say Raheem for example.

Or a player. Or a former player.

The NFL needs to tell Mort he is cut off from access if he doesn’t reveal his source to them.

Following is a theory I have on one thing:

  11. Couch Fan Says:

    @ Bobby

    Exactly

  12. bucrightoff Says:

Anyone see Freeman’s agents tweets? Basically confirming the reasons for the fines? Freeman’s agent sucks.

  13. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Theory
I was thinking about this yesterday while stuck at the hospital. Who would have the most to gain if Schiano were fired? (aside from some fans)

The person named as interim coach. In this case, most likely Sullivan.

Then I got to thinking. If Sullivan were named Interim Head Coach and turned some things around he would certainly be in the running for the full time gig.

Carry it further now. What if Sully planned this all along? Knowing next year is a quarterback heavy college class, knowing Freeman would be the sacrificial lamb, having opportunities but passing on them last year, the leak on team meetings, team photos and the drug program. All of it.

Sully is exe military. He is smart and strategic. He knows Freeman and Schiano would get the bulk of the blame. He knows at some point Dominick and/or the owners will come to him and ask him to become interim HC.

All the peices fall into place. The play calling. The lack of Freeman being taught the fundamentals (his faults a correctable but Sully flat out refused publicly to address them).

Again, this is a simply theory. I’m not sure I even believe it. But it would make him a genius if true.

  14. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

It would also explain why Freeman had a good year in 2010, and why he went from a good to bad year last year.

  15. bucrightoff Says:

I prefer my theory that Lawrence and Amanda Tynes are behind the leaks because they obviously hate the Bucs and would love to spite them. Just a thought.

  16. Bucs1987 Says:

    “Dominick is the invisible man.”

BuccaneerBonzai…Joe told a caller last night on the radio show, that Dom has not been in hiding. That Dom was actually in the USA Today on Tuesday or yesterday. I can’t remember which. I’m not defending Dom either. I too would like to see him be more vocal about what is taking place right now.

  17. TAC Says:

“Take the stage one drug program.”

Hard to tell where this started, could be the players, the Freeman camp, or the Front office(I don’t know how that helps them). But the Glazer’s, and or the NFL should find out. I like the conversation on the Radio with Joe’s, and Duemig that the NFL should put ESPN on the hot seat until the truth is revealed, so that information is never used by anyone again to pursue their goals whatever they may be.

  18. Bucs1987 Says:

BuccaneerBonzai…I too have also contemplated if there is some sabotage going on myself. For a little bit there I thought it was Freeman playing poorly on purpose, because he hates the HC. It just seems to me that this D goes all out for this coach, so that’s why I’m not buying that he’s lost the locker room yet.

I do think your theory is plausible though as I’ve thought about that very same thing myself, what with all the NFL coaching experience strolling the Bucs sidelines that it might be a sabotage job by somebody. It is quite possible. I don’t talk about in here though, because that would make me one of the conspiracy nuts. No one really knows what the deal is with this offense. It could just be as simple as Sully’s plan is outdated like some suggest and the NFL has caught up to it.

  19. Otto Says:

Our offense is terrible and Sully is the OC, strategy maker, and play caller. He has nothing to gain by running an awful offense. To me, he is the one to blame for these loses. Look how unprepared the offense was in the first two games.

  20. Rahb Says:

TIME TO JUST SIT BACK AND SEE HOW THIS THING ENDS!

I got my Money on Freeman! I don’t see Schiano going to much farther than 2013 as an NFL Coach. (That’s when you defenders of the faith will see the carnage the guy created and left smoldering)

  21. Bobby Says:

C’mon….Freeman came in and had a record year in Sully’s offense. It’s NOT Sully. If he were that smart and creative our X’s and O’s would be a helluva lot more creative. Freeman is just Freeman. He runs hot and cold and in the NFL you have to have consistency. No mystery why he’s gone. Sully’s offense did him no favors but if you have an accurate arm and make good decisions you can thrive in any system. Freeman’s problem was between his ears and the fact he needed adderall is really no surprise.

  22. Bucs1987 Says:

Otto …exactly the O is the problem, but the HC is also responsible for fixing it and making it work.

  23. mvermulm Says:

Rahb, Free was just released, so everyone wins!

  24. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

“if you have an accurate arm and make good decisions you can thrive in any system. ”

Bingo. You’ve been making some great points.

  25. DP4LIFE22 Says:

the leaks come from Freemans friends about his condition boys!!!! Sorry it not on bucs.. Leak about trade request before saints game came from Freemans camp… He wants out and what better way than bash coach who media bashes anyways..

Schiano has black polo on at practice steve dumig would claim he is symbolize the desired death of jOSH fREEMAN…

iLIKE FREEMAN AS A GUY but Bucs have gone as he has gone.. Inconsistant for 5 years and so has bucs play…hmmm Josh bunch of chaos leading to season hmmm bucs where are bucs at now chaos???

I dont care for phil simms but he said it best play so good they cant take you out Josh… throwe an accurate pass!!!!!

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

“C’mon….Freeman came in and had a record year in Sully’s offense. It’s NOT Sully. If he were that smart and creative our X’s and O’s would be a helluva lot more creative.”

Consider this then. Game one. Whose responsibility was it to develop a strategy in case the headsets go out?

Who chose Ogletree as the 3rd WR?

Who said on the radio that he refused to work on mechanics with Josh Freeman?

Who called so many passing plays in the second half of last year, leading to more yards but more interceptions? Almost as though he was hoping for a collapse?

Who called 13 straight running plays in a game this year?

Sully was actively working against the success of this team. The question is…why?
