100 Is A Bucs Magic Number

October 17th, 2013

Joe’s not a big stats geek, but some are telling and worth noting.

In a Q&A for the Falcons’ official website, Tampa Tribune scribe eye-RAH! Kaufman noted that the Bucs are 1-20 over the past few seasons when they don’t rush for 100 yards as a team. That’s a pretty striking number.

Joe dug a little deeper and, perhaps more telling, the Bucs are 6-3 under the New Schiano Order when they do rush for 100 yards.

The Bucs have invested a stunning number of millions on their offensive line. It’s one of the highest paid and most experienced O-lines in the game, but they haven’t played well, “inconsistent” Greg Schiano called the O-line yesterday.

Interestingly, Derrick Brooks, speaking on his Tampa-2 show on WDAE-AM 620 yesterday, said he’s confident his film study has shown the Bucs are running more zone blocking this season. Brooks speculated this could be having a minor negative impact on the rushing attack.

Draft Jake Matthews and Taylor Lewan….Then go pay for a Center!

That’s pretty dangerous information to put out there. If word of that gets back to Schiano we’ll go from run, run, pass, punt to run, run, run punt in an effort to get to 100 yards so we can increase our win chances

I agree that the 0-.line is underperforming….but some of these numbers from last year,at least, represent a weak defense giving up early points thus the Bucs abandoning the running game.
The problem is the coaches know this and so do opponents so the coaches try to run, run, run….and we should pass run, pass…..

Well so far Carl Nix has been worth every penny, yeah right.

It’s also one of the most underachieving, over paid, and over rated lines in the nfl. Lets not sugar coat this. The saints are still laughing @ the Nicks signing.

If only it were that simple. There has to be a better center available in free agency in order for you to get one…and the Bucs tried that with Faine. The center before Faine was truly horrible.

Zuttah isn’t great but he’s passable.

Peter King did an interview on 620 this morning…said Schiano should get at least 3 years. I agree.

That’s a stat I don’t pay too much attention to. If you get behind you pass, so less running yards. If you are ahead you run, so more running yards. Unless you are ahead by 7 and start run, run, run, punt early in the third quarter with nine in the box the whole time, but what coach in his right mind would do that? Oh wait. Our dumb coach would.

  9. MadMax Says:

@Bonzai, what about Larsen getting moved to center and Zuttah playing guard? I wasnt saying cut him. But in the scheme of things, keep using him at Guard and build up depth at center.

  10. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Zuttah is a better center than Larsen…but then with Nicks out he’s also a better option at guard.

    Exactly!
