No Sophomore Blues For Martin

September 15th, 2013

Joe and every other Bucs fan should be thanking the heavens for Doug Martin. He’s that good.

Martin was back to his workhorse, superstar self today, hammering out 29 carries for 144 yards against the Saints. He hammers defenders between the tackles and is explosive, smart and tireless. And it’s clear his difficult opening day was more a function of a dysfunctional offensive line.

Gabe Carimi and Davin Joseph both looked rejuvenated today, and they gave Martin enough room to seize daylight.

It’s sad the Bucs wasted his performance. How do you knock around Drew Brees, pick him off twice, run for 160 yards on just 33 carries and still lose?

The Bucs found a way.

Shame he doesn’t have a QB to take advantage

Simple. Have Freeman as the QB on the other team.

I’m gonna third the QB. That’s the best part of his day too: they were stacking to stop him and he still ran through.

  4. Walter Says:

Glad to have Martin on board

watching this weeks’ game and last weeks game made me realize how important a solid FB is to our offense.

Glad to see Carimi play a lot better this week.

Great game Muscle Hamster. Too bad you’re on an 0-2 team. I’m having flashbacks of Steven Jackson when he played for the Rams…great runner on a team that goes NOWHERE. Please God, let us pull a miracle over New England to give this fan base some hope…

I wonder if we will hit Schian’s friend’s team….NE like we hit the other teams?

I agree that Lorig was essential…..but, here is the problem.

How do you have an offense in this league that targets a RB once, a TE once & a FB once in a full NFL game….what kind of offense is that….it is one that loses.

    Great individual efforts today.

Martin is the man. Very glad to have Lorig back. On the other hand, its unfortunate that our run game is so heavily reliant on a 2 back set. Sully needs to get more creative, and we need Nicks back ASAP.

    Good question joe.

Terrible play calling and coaching, is the answer

I wrote an article this offseason…the great ones…do not have sophomore slumps. You can go back and look. Payton, Harris, Smith, Sanders, none of the great ones.
