Report: Lindell Wins Bucs’ Kicking Job

August 31st, 2013

Joe trusts NFL insider Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com, hence this is why Joe is running with Marvez’s report. Per the Miami-based writer and radio host for SiriusXM NFL Radio, Rian Lindell has bested Derek Dimke for the Bucs’ place kicker job.

Following his release by Buffalo earlier this month after 10 years there and 13 NFL seasons overall, Lindell was signed by the Buccaneers to press the untested Dimke during the preseason.

Lindell, 36, distanced himself from Dimke during Tampa Bay’s preseason finale against Washington. Dimke, a first-year player who hasn’t performed in a regular-season game, missed an extra point and 45-yard field goal attempt.

Lindell is the third kicking option for Tampa Bay since Connor Barth suffered a season-ending Achilles’ tendon injury during a July charity basketball game. The first replacement was former New York Giant Lawrence Tynes, who later became sidelined by a MRSA staph infection that has landed him on the non-football injury list.

This is a bit surprising to Joe because in the locker room after the game against Washington, players were saying goodbye to Lindell. despite kicking a 50-yarder against the Skins. Apparently, the former Bills kicker was of the impression he wasn’t making the cut?

Say what you will about Lindell, but his kicking percentage in Buffalo, one of the toughest places for a place kicker, was pretty darned good. That gives Joe hope.

Lookoing on 4th down more this year. That’s the one thing Barth could do, hit the long ones from over 50 yards. I do not see Lindell doing that.

  2. Robbie_G Says:

    look going… sorry about that

  3. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

LOL…didn’t he just kick a 50 yarder the other night Robbie?

  4. Mr Lucky Says:

One of the few positions I’m NOT worried about

  5. RBellBuc Says:

No kidding, lake effect conditions practically all winter. Lindell’s not going to feel right wearing shorts in December, and kicking with one pair of socks on! lol

Apparently you didn’t watch Saturdays game.

    Why?

  10. Robbie_G Says:

    Ok , TE options anyone?

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Robbie you do realize kickers score a lot of points? Win games? Even win championships?

  12. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Robbie…with our offense the way it is…the kicker is a VERY important position for us now.

  13. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Since it iis (excuse me while I throw my tablet against to wall) is taking forever to findout the cuts TE is as good a topic as any.

Bu s release on friday. Only two healthy ones left on roster and neither impressed. Dallas Clark is with the Ravens unless he gets cut. No idea who we can get that is any good. Maybe Hillis can play te? (Joking)

  14. Robbie_G Says:

I do understand, the guy hits 1 50 yarder in pre season and everyone jumps all over me. I just wonder if they will go for it more, Barth could hit from damn near 60. Everyone relax, take a breath, As for not seeing the game, since I do not live in FLA yes I get to see all the games, no blackouts here.

  15. Robbie_G Says:

Anyone think maybe a pass rusher could make his way on this team as well?

  16. Robbie_G Says:

BuccaneerBonzai, I agree, what is going on at 1 Buc. Is it good that they are taking all this time, or is it bad?

  17. MR.T Says:

I said in a post yesterday I thought the Bucs would go with Lindell because of his experience and since they only need him for this season, assuming Barth comes back 100 percent, his age is also not an issue

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I think you hit the nail on the head, mr t. At least with Lindell they won’t have to sign a long deal with.

Robbie I don’t think it is a bad thing. They are likely scanning the names dropped by other teams or making sure they talk with the players first. There are a couple tough choices.

  19. RBellBuc Says:

I’m not convinced we have 53 good players to choose from after watching the 2nds and 3rds this preseason. I feel I could get the roster down to 43 and pickup 10 better players in FA. 🙁

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

RBellBuc you sure are a negative fella.

    James. Leonard. Banks. Spence. Hillis.

    Revis. Goldson.

That’s 7 good players added right there. That isn’t all that bad when you think about it.

  21. Couch Fan Says:

Im hearing Moeaki from KC may be released. Might be worth a look.

  22. Stanglassman Says:

Yea a kicker who cares! Whats the difference between having a good one and a old washed up one, 2 or 3 wins into loses or getting 112 pts a year instead of 145?

    whoops wring thread sorry

  25. PRBucFan Says:

Wrong* and just posted it in the right place lol. My bad

  26. Stanglassman Says:

Does anyone remember when John Mackay was so pissed at kicker Bill Capice that he put in George Yarnow (OL) to kick a extra point and the Capice is caput t-shirts.

  27. RBellBuc Says:

Give me 53 Bonsai and we’ll discuss the last 10. It’s not being negative as much as observant. Every team we played during the preseason had better 2nd and 3rds than us. Our 3rds looked like high schoolers against Washington’s 3rd’s.

  28. Buc1987 Says:

“Every team we played during the preseason had better 2nd and 3rds than us. Our 3rds looked like high schoolers against Washington’s 3rd’s.”

RBellBuc…. right, right I fully agree with ya 100%.

If I was Dom I’d be looking at the Skins cuts.

  29. Paul Says:

Our 1’s are better though, and I’d rather be in that situation.

there #3 QB is Rex Grossman, Hmmmm?
