Eagles 31, Bucs 21

December 9th, 2012

The Bucs got spanked by a rookie quarterback and a crappy Eagles team.

Joe can’t sugarcoat this garbage outcome to a garbage team.

For the first time this season, the Bucs started a game slowly, blanked by a lousy defense in the first half behind ugly quarterback play by Josh Freeman. That’s two straight clunkers by No. 5.

The Bucs rallied back but couldn’t keep away from dumb penalties, 12 men on the field — didn’t that happen twice last week? — and couldn’t make a play when they needed one. Danny Gorrer will be kicking himself for a long time.

The Bucs are a talented football team that is now a losing football team, and one that has a lot to prove to its fans in these final three games. The Bucs were a good team a few weeks ago, but not anymore.

The Eagles score another TD in the fifth quarter or something?

  2. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

Too many beers with the celebrating 2002 Bucs team for the Joes???

I could be wrong but I thought it was 23-21.

  3. BucNeckid Says:

    21 to 23 Eagles
    But who cares
    They Suck
BUt the Bucs Sucked worse today
    Yuck!!!

  4. Tom Says:

Epic failure. Freeman just isn’t reliable. You can’t count on the dude to show up for a whole game or a whole season.

  5. PRBucFan Says:

    Yup, nonexistent. Embarrassing indeed.

  6. Deminion Says:

Very depressing loss… Still think we played too conservative before the eagles game winning drive( you play to win) still questioning Wht u put the game in the D’s hands.. I question Sheridan for leaving our terrible corner on islands every play still questioning why are we blitzing when the front four has bn getting there most of the day… Asking myself y free cant put a solid GM together… Very upset abt this loss toughest loss of the season go bucs

  7. PRBucFan Says:

    Exactly Tom

  8. greg slother Says:

And wasn’t everyone clamoring to annoit clown #5 a few weeks ago and give him a long term deal? Philly has 14 yards rushing and we lose. Don’t blame this one on the D It’s all on the “Franchise” Problem is he was annoited before he did anything. NFL elite QBs are smart. Physical talent wins a few games smart wins many. Yes CB is an issue but don’t hitch the team to this loser.

  9. Deminion Says:

Greg yur a moron get bent

  10. Have A Nice Day Says:

At some point Freeman is gonna have to complete more passes and the pass defense has to stop allowing 300 yards a game.

If the offense has to score more than 24 points a game, every game, to win, the team won’t go anywhere far.

  11. DaMayan Says:

The first half punt-fest sticks in my mind. The Eagles matched us in ineptitude for a while but then even the bad Eagles manned up. Freeman drives the franchise in a QB league. He couldnt get in gear and the team didnt move. Thus this loss is mostly on Freeman imo.

The defensive collapse is just what is has been all year: Below average passrush and terrible corner play. Both are explainable by talent still Bill Sheridan needs to worry for his job.

  12. BucNeckid Says:

Also was not impressed with the class(lessness) of the team running into the tunnel after the Mandatory PAT.
Fox even showed M.Williams and Blount strolling in before the PAT.
Maybe i don’t see every game ending camera view or maybe this is what is expected or maybe they said their congrats pre-snap?
    But IF NOT,
Is this what Buccaneer Men do?
Lose a close game (even if it was to a team they should have beat) and hightail it to the locker room. Puss Move!

  13. tj Says:

Bucs should have drafted claibourne barron is helping the run but we need corners like two months ago

  14. Have A Nice Day Says:

Held the Eagles to 14 rushing yards, but allowed the QB to trot into the endzone and pick up 4 first downs with his legs at critical times. Also allow Foles to throw for 300+ yards and 2 TDs. That is not good defense.

Great pass rush though. Our DL was getting it done for most of the game. I am thoroughly impressed with their play this year.

  15. JJ1977 Says:

Thanks, Eric Wright u suck Big Balls! Freeman needs too sit on the bench, the season is OVER!!!

  16. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

heart breakin loss, way to conservative and the penalties??? this is the worst i have felt after a loss in a long time. im not sure what to think.

  17. Patrick Says:

Guys, I don’t hate or dislike Freeman by any means…….but I just don’t know what to think of him. For 4 straight weeks, he played lights out. But for 2 weeks he’s reverted back to 2011 Freeman, and he can’t ever beat teams with winning records. He’s still not accurate and he doesn’t ever build us a big lead and seems to play best only when we’re trailing. One week I’m his biggest fan, the next week he disappoints me greatly.

And Raphael, it’s a stone cold fact that he just had a terrible day against one of the worst defenses in the NFL and a team that’s in total disarray. As a fan, that’s a huge red flag!

  18. the_buc_realist Says:

i think that alot of people are confused and call this team talented, when in reality they are a team with just potential.

  19. BucNeckid Says:

Barron is sucking it up right now,
But there is NO WAY that i would like Claiborne on this team.
    Kuechly maybe. But
I’ll take the lumps with Barron.
    He’ll come around.

  20. SombreoBro Says:

Joe shouldn’t have been so sure of a win this week.
Joe should know the Bucs’ penchant for laying down to crappy teams.
Joe should also know the score.
    Joe is obviously distraught.

  21. Rob Says:

Schiano cost us the game with ultra conservative play calling. 3rd and 8, runs up the middle for no gain. Punts out of bounds at the 40, Folds does what he did all day completing 70% if his passes . Gosh Freeman was 35-39% as usual. At least we can draft higher now lol. Go Bycs!

  22. bill Says:

You should probably get the f!@king score right!

  23. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Most media types who know the Bucs well predicted 7-8 wins this season and I agreed with that. Turns out that looks about exactly right. The loss of momentum is frustrating, of course, but the final win total will be right around .500. This is a team with potential but also with flaws in the secondary, QB inconsistency and with a head coach who for the life of him doesn’t know how to manage a lead properly (plays not to lose instead of playing to win). But with a good draft and a little free agent help they should be playoff bound next year.

  25. BucFan20 Says:

That Rookie got it done UNDER PRESSURE. As for the 3rd and 8 Crying. What was the coach to do. Let Freeman PASS??? He was so close to being picked all day I am sure that was in his mind.

  26. ShutTheBucUp Says:

im getting hammered after that miserable embarrassment of a game

  27. Have A Nice Day Says:

@FLboy – I thought 7-8 too. Looks like we are who we thought we were lol

  28. Ramdog Says:

Below average pass rush ??? I wouldn’t call 7 sacks below average. The defense got great pressure on Foles there were just receivers running free. What about our high priced free agent punter uncorking a 30 yarder with no pressure on him. Freeman did enough to win teamed up with Martin’s great game. Sheridan needs to get fired too much man coverage for horrible corners. Also what is the Defense Backs coach doing ??? Telling them to bite on every more and get beat deep ??? I think the coaches offense and defense need to make better adjustments during the game. How come it takes half-time to figure all this stuff out ?? They need to get some corners and Josh really needs to work on the offense and accuracy in the off-season. We will get back our all-pro guards and our offense will be much better.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I think the injuries and suspensions have just proven to be too much to overcome. Our secondary is absolutely horrendous, and that’s being nice. Freeman didn’t play well, but it seems as if the routes just take way too long to develop, and he doesn’t have the time necessary. I almost miss the hopeless checks downs that we’ve made famous for the last 20 years or so. Losing our 2 Pro Bowl Guards has been devestating. Losing Clayborn is probably worse. Good news is, we know exactly what we need to be a playoff team. There’s no if, ands, or buts about it. I’ll take that over needing everything as we did after last year. Obviously we aren’t making the playoffs and I have concerns we won’t win another game, but in the long run we are going to be a very good team. I feel very confident in that.

  30. ShutTheBucUp Says:

freeman needs to run more when no one is open downfield. the guy has legs. look at what RG3 has been doing. No excuse for that last offensive sh!tstorm

  31. BucNeckid Says:

Time to draft a QB in the third to fifth round next year

  32. ShutTheBucUp Says:

and Freeman should shave that curly mess off the top of his head. looks like a damn fool. and stop saying “yeah, no, you know”

  33. Have A Nice Day Says:

Yeah, whoever said today’s pass rush was below average is plain being silly.

  34. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Hawaiian I agree. Lots to be excited about. Dougie, Nicks, Jackson, Clark, David… This time last year I was ready for a few years of rebuilding. This team is just a few plays away from being a serious contender.

  35. Have A Nice Day Says:

“Our secondary is absolutely horrendous, and that’s being nice. Freeman didn’t play well, but it seems as if the routes just take way too long to develop, and he doesn’t have the time necessary.”

    Yes to all f this.

  36. 941bucsFAN Says:

Everybody who is blaming josh is an idiot….the man has 21TDS and 4 ints in the last 9 games..We have NO secondary….thats why we loss the game….you cant rely on us to score 30pts a game…Playoffs teams Stop people…and we cant do that. Everyone knew we wasnt going to the playoffs this year, so why are you crying…we are young and will be better on defense next year…josh is fine, give him his 6yr $55million contract…and for those of you who dont agree, then who should we start at QB? A rookie and take a step back the next 2 years?

  37. Have A Nice Day Says:

“and Freeman should shave that curly mess off the top of his head. looks like a damn fool. and stop saying “yeah, no, you know” ”

Of all the things to pick about freeman, bashing his hair and his verbiage? Really? Really?

  38. Patrick Says:

    @Hawaiian Buc

“I think the injuries and suspensions have just proven to be too much to overcome.”

And you what sucks……..this year is plagued by injuries every single season! Every year since the Super Bowl.

  39. Have A Nice Day Says:

6 years and $55 mil for a QB like Free? I don’t know if I’d shell out that much for him yet. Then again, he is no Manning, so that price might be the going rate.

  40. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Have a Nice Day, just trying to make light of a sad situation. He needs to work on a lot more than his hair and press conference performance…

  41. greg slother Says:

Hmm Freeman 14 for 34…seems well below 50%..(check his pre-draft completion percentage by the way) how many elite QBs throw those numbers? And I’m a moron? Freeman ia at best a middle of the road QB of limited intelligence. Can’t look off a DB,can’t check down..RGIII was better on his first day than this clown will ever be..can we move to a real QB

  42. Patrick Says:

Guys, Freeman faced one of the worst defenses in the NFL and couldn’t get us a must win against a team that’s in disarray and about to clean house. That’s a damn good reason to still have doubts about Freeman.

  43. Patrick Says:

“Why don’t you put on some permanent waves? You’ll me smooth, you’ll be cool you’ll be laughing!”

    -Ray Davies

  44. SilenceTheCritics Says:

For the most part I thought our defense played well with the exception of a few bone headed plays like the QB crawling into the end zone and nobody in the same zip code as him.

  45. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Tell me about it Patrick. Every year I keep thinking the injury bug is going to leave us alone, but it seems to get worse every year. It’s not even that we lost a lot of guys, it’s the guys that we lost. We had 2 guys on this team in the Pro Bowl last year, and they are both out. Our best pass rusher (and a damn good run stopper) is out. We (rightly so) traded our best CB because he likes Adderall. Our 2nd best corner was suspended.

I was at the game in Tampa against Atlanta and was standing next to Adrian Clayborn as the players came out to their car. Somebody asked who one particular guy was (it was Gorrer), and he didn’t know. That says it all right there.

  46. Pelbuc Says:

Pin this lose on Freeman. He is predictably inconsistent and a 4 gAme stretch where the offense was putting up good numbers does not a season make. This lose was simply unforgivable. Bad QB play, conservative coaching, penalties and bad defense will not be fixed by another draft or FA. I’ve seen enough of Freeman to know he is not clutch or a fiery leader. I realize our DBs suck so why all the blitzes every week when the game is on the line. Playoff teams win in Nov. and December. Bucs have lost 3 straight. Also Mark Barron has been very disappointing. Bucs should NOT sign Freeman to an extension. They should let him let him play out his contract or tag him. God it’s tough being a Bucs fan.

  47. SombreoBro Says:

So I guess Boomer Esiason was right.

  48. 507 Bucs fan Says:

We allowed 12 yards rushing. I believe we allowed 11 yards against the panthers. Those stats are misleading. Why run it for a lost when you can throw it EASILY for a first down? Johnson at this point the season looks like forgotten meat on the bbq. Biggers at least made some decent open field tackles and gaitor played ehhh… ok i guess? We need to go 1 and 2 on CB. NO extension on Freeman until next season.

  49. lurker Says:

this was a team loss, not just freeman’s. offense, defense, and that special team’s punt.

  50. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I’m thinking more like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 on CB the way we’ve looked this season (slight exaggeration, but not by much).

  51. Patrick Says:

@Hawaiian Buc……..Aqib Talib eventually needed to go……but we could’ve used him for the remainder of the season at least.

  52. biggun Says:

interesting fact Bucs have not lost by more than 8 points all season wonder if any other team has gone a whole season?

  53. Patrick Says:

Btw, Hawaiian Buc what’s your e-mail address? I’d like to discuss more of today’s game with you.

  54. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Patrick,
I would love to, but my only email is a business email and my wife doesn’t want me to give it out for personal stuff. I think I need to get a personal one.

  55. lurker Says:

patrick, after all you have said, you think having talib for these games would have made a difference? you blame freeman and not the defense so what can talib do. talib is not elite.

also, you wouldn’t trade talib for the 4th rounder they got when you know he was gone after the season?

  56. JMoney Says:

Does anyone else feel robbed on that the screen pass that got ruled an incomplete instead of a fumble!!!?!

  57. lurker Says:

oops, sorry hawaiian. i didn’t mean to interrupt your private communiques. 😉

  58. Bucamania Says:

Pathetic effort in front of the super bowl champs. Freeman was miserable. Tough to explain how they came up so small on such a big day.

  59. Hawaiian Buc Says:

One good thing from today: we aren’t Arizona fans.

  60. dmatt Says:

I cannot understand the reason Freeman continues to overthrow receivers that are wide opened. And, over the past few weeks he’s thrown int’s that were dropped by opposing teams’ defense. Freeman take sacks that are ridiculous. After check down with primary and secondary receivers, and no one is open, why not run for the first down or get positive yards vs a sack or int? Freeman is inconsistent and continues to play like a rookie during crunch time…again inconsistent. Rookies RG III, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, and 2nd yr player Kaepernick respectively play as if they’re seasoned vets…they all show and have the drive to win. Just watch the play of these players at the line of scrimmage and during post press conference. They all display leadership and have a take charge demeanor for their team. Freeman looks lost and confused during post interview and on the field. How long are we going to wait for him to consistently take control of his team. Yes, our cornerbacks sucks…it’s not a suprise, being that they consist of 7th rounders and free agents. With the weapons we have on offense, Josh should put points on the board almost each drive. He’s the suppose to be leader of this team…not the cornerbacks. Look at Josh’s winning record against teams with winning records from the the first game he started (9th game of 09 season) to date. Here are the numbers: Games won against teams with winning records: 09 -two games 2010- 2 games(one of the wins was a 7-9 playoff team), 2011- 2 games, 2012 -1 game. Only thing Freeman has shown is that he sometimes can win against losing teams…not today. I believe Freeman shouldn’t be given this big contract until he consistently proves himself as a leader and fighter. We made mistakes paying underacheivers QBlack, MClayton. JFaine, DWard,SJones, and GAdams(RIP). Next year will be Josh 5th yr in the league. Even with getting good corners in the draft and FA next yr, Josh will continue to be our weakest link. Yes we’re talking playoff, and yes, Josh was just that, his play was off during crunch time against a team with a rookie QB. He was outplayed.

  61. Bobby Says:

@TJ…..No…we shouldn’t have drafted Claiborne. If we draft Claiborne we don’t get the 4th round pick and without the 4th round pick we don’t have Lavonte David or Doug Martin. Next years draft is deep on good CB’s. I’m sure we’ll draft several.

As for Freeman…he is frustrating. He has all the throws and for 5 games straight he looked fantastic but these last couple of games he has looked lost. I really believe it’s his decision making process. He just makes throws to the wrong receiver. He tried too many times to fit the ball into a nonexistent window. Oh well, it is what it is. They are making us mad this year because they are losing games they should win…not because they are quitting or getting blown out. I figured Philadelphia would show up to play today. They know the super bowl team is being honored and they came to spoil the fun. Once again our pass D folded. Oh well.

  62. PRBucFan Says:

    Amen Dmatt, well said

  63. Tye Says:

The season starts and so many say give Freeman this season under a true HC and coordinator to make an evaluation…. And now because Freeman hasn’t played as those people had hoped they are blaming everything but Freeman…

4 seasons (3 as a starter) and he still plays inconsistantly…. He would make an ideal backup Qb (on the days he has to fill in and plays as the good QB Josh) but not an NFL starter… Their will always be other things to blame Freeman’s inadequacies on but that doesn’t help him in the least….

A penny will always be a penny and it is useless as long as you need anything other than a penny!
