Right Guard Answers Coming Soon

September 1st, 2012

The dust settled last night on the Bucs roster, and Derek Hardman, Ted Larsen and Jamon Meredith are still Buccaneers.

The Bucs kept a hefty stable of O-linemen, incuding rookie undrafted tackle Brady Sowell and Demar Dotson, plus the starters.

The Bucs are practicing this afternoon at One Buc Palace, and previously in training camp Greg Schiano expressed a desire to have starters named early at all positions so the team can build on that and have continuity.

It’ll be interesting to see and hear about who trots out there today. If the Bucs don’t snag another guard soon, Joe suspects a starter among Larsen, Hardman and Meredith and will be named by Monday at the very latest.

Joe’s curious why Hardman hasn’t been talked about more. The guy was top notch as a rookie in 2010 filling in for Davin Joseph. Hardman was one of the few that season to keep Ndamukong Suh in check.

Random thought. Whatever happened to that guard we had outta.. Texas tech? Seemed like a crazy dude with face paint. Was he just not any good? I dunno why he popped in my head haha.

  2. Vortexx66 Says:

Not sure about keeping Jamon Meredith, the guy was horrible in the Redskins game. He had no leverage, with very poor technique.

  3. FlBoy84 Says:

Hope the team takes a look at Dwan Edwards at DT, though probably won’t see many players signed by the Bucs until after Week 1 when their salaries won’t be guaranteed.

  4. NJBucsFan Says:

I wish we would of at least kept 53 players. I know they have a plan but why tip your hand or possibly lose a player that would have made the roster if Davin was healthy if the plan doesn’t pan out.

    Off topic
Tank Jackson has been suspended by the league for at least the 2012 season for violating…you gussed it, the league’s substance abuse policy

  6. Mike J Says:

It is puzzling why the back-up O-line performed reasonably well in 2010 but has been in decline since.

  7. drahcir Says:

I agree about Hardman – he looked like he might develop into some quality depth. Having said that, there are some guards available that would likely be an upgrade. Veterans with game experience like Steve Vallos or even Tony Wragge and some young guys with upside. The Saints waived Matt Tennant, G/C from Boston College, someone Schiano is likely familiar with.

A side note: The Bills waived Tank Carder – maybe he’d be worth a look?

  8. Bobby Says:

Who is Tank Jackson? You mean Tanard?

  9. FlBoy84 Says:

Yeah, he does. Was reported yesterday. Seems like Raheem was just in the news in the past month or so saying how T-Jax had cleaned up his act and his troubles were behind him. Looks like the only thing behind him now is his NFL career.

  10. FlBoy84 Says:

    @Drahcir,
Agree, would think there are a few OG’s out there that would be an upgrade. Saw Carder’s name out there as well. He’s a little undersized and not the quickest guy, but he definitely was productive in college.

Any quality linemen available will consult their agents first about prospective teams. Their agents will warn them about the 110X16 torture tests, 10 game losing streak/tailspin, cheap owners and the Napoleonic control freak coach.

Agents are smart and they talk to each other. When you screw over Underwood, Price, Briscoe, Okoye and many others, agents pay attention because the agents got screwed and lied to as well.

The only players coming to Tampa will be desperate losers with no other possible options.

  12. FlBoy84 Says:

Can you explain how Underwood, Price, Briscoe, Okoye and many others got screwed over exactly? Know that’s probably asking a lot, as it requires some actual intellect to form a valid argument.

  13. Rican Says:

@Bucfaninhawkeyecountry his name was brandon carter and he’s currently with the cowgirls

  14. Rican Says:

And he’s currently signed with the WWE under their developmental program getting ready to soon move up to there.

  15. NJBucsFan Says:

Wow…everytime Miguel posts he sounds like a bigger tool. Get off the conditioning tests. At this point you sound like bitter person that was kicked off a middle/high school team for being out of shape.

  16. Miguel Grande Says:

Underwood earned a spot on this roster through blood, sweat and tears. Most posters and observers had him as the #3 receiver. He led the team through the preseason in most categories. He was consistent in games and practices. He was a baller! He got screwed over.

Brian Price was a 2nd round pick who suffered horrific injuries and personal tragedies. He always toiled tirelessly through intolerable pain and was almost always available to fill that DT spot. He was a baller. He got screwed over because he was injured and couldn’t possibly run the torture tests. His value is now that of a 7th round pick.

Briscoe got fired because he was too proud to give up the rights that his professional union had worked so hard to acquire. He was fired because he didn’t attend voluntary workouts. He also did not complete the dreaded and unnecessary 110X16 torture tests. The Little General in a fit of rage fired him outright to prove how butch he was. He could have gotten a 4th or 5th round pick for the Bucs leading TD receiver. Instead he got screwed over and lost his value as a 6th round pick. Yes, Dezmon was a baller.

Okoye signed a large guaranteed contract with the Bucs to provide much needed depth at DT. After surviving the torture tests, he quickly tweaked his knee, probably because of the sprints. The Little General didn’t appreciate him mentioning the tests in an interview, therefore he was fired without reason. Schiano mentioned that you can’t make the team from the tub, but clearly that’s not true, because Aurrelius Benn earned the #3 receiver spot from the tub. He was screwed over because he lost perceived value as a former 1st round pick. He could have been a baller.

The other players and agents talk, they start to look at their past records and realize that these guys have never won. Their pompous little speeches, their nonsensical rules, dress codes, conditioning tests, ridiculous platitudes and rules of conduct are the musings of idiots.

  17. Bobby Says:

Obviously Miguel NEVER played organized sports.

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

Miguel =idiot. Players plucked off waivers have to report to the team they are awarded to….. if they still want to play in the NFL. Their agents have no control over where they go I till their 5’th year. STFU

  19. Miguel Grande Says:

    BibMac,

Why when your opinion doesn’t match others, do you resort to ad hominem attacks.

Some agents are lawyers, most have lawyers on their staff. All they have do do is tell Mr Dominik and Mr Schiano that their client absolutely refuses to run the 110X16 torture tests. Do you still want my client taking up one of your roster spots?

    @Bobby

I grew up in Amerika participating in organized sports. From the age of 5 through high school. I even coached in organized sports. As a coach, I was disliked, criticized and reviled by the opposition and even the parents of my players.

My players loved me, we had fun and we very seldom lost. Often we were undefeated. We had a saying on my team, “Winning is the best deodorant!”

I even had an assistant coach who was a pitching coach for the Texas Rangers. He had no problem with my approach. He was my source of many of the inside things going on in the professional locker rooms that you people don’t seem to understand.

  20. BucOneSource Says:

Miguel, the NFL is a business not your little league team.
