Bucs Approached 1976 Futility

December 19th, 2011

To what awful level have the Bucs sunk? Why, one writer went so far to invoke the winless 1976 Tampa Bay Bucs.

And said writer was not stretching things either. Pat Yasinskas of ESPN was comparing the ugly defense of the Bucs. Combined with the woeful showing in Jacksonville and the abysmal start against the Cowboys, well, it was one of the franchise’s worst.

The Bucs fell behind 28-0 in the first half after allowing 41 unanswered points to Jacksonville last week. The 69 consecutive points allowed are the second-highest total in franchise history. The worst was in 1976 when the Bucs allowed 79 straight points in a three-game span, according to Elias Sports Bureau. The last NFL team to give up more than 69 consecutive points was the Titans, who allowed 76 in 2009.

Wow, numbers like that, no wonder the Bucs defensive coordinator is taking heat from all corners.

Wait a minute! The 2009 Titans? Weren’t they coached by, um, yeah… Jeff Fisher! You can scratch his name off the list.

Simple math tells us that Fisher is twice the coach as Raheem. 76 points in 3 games is 25 per game. Raheem let almost the same amout in a game and half.

Its all “grey-matter” until the offseason. That is when we will really see who is committed to building a real NFL team. Not the lasting contender talk, But the fan base will be watching the moves. From the owners to GM’s to Coach’s, we will be watching the moves to build a real NFL team.

The 0-26 Bucs always played with HEART !
These azzclowns have not layed a lick on and opponent in …in…I really can not remember

  4. Sooner in Tampa Says:

If we played the Colts this week…they would beat us by 14.

  5. TheProsUseAdvoCare Says:

Twice the coach as Raheem doesn’t mean a winner. That means Fisher goes 8-8. You guys would enjoy that? I wouldn’t. Why bother bringing in a new coach to just watch the Bucs be mediocre? Find someone better than Fisher.

  6. Jon in Tampa Says:

I keep clicking refresh on this site and PFT-NBC waiting for the announcement. Shall I get my popcorn ready?

This is what happens when a team stops listening to the coaching staff, and when that happens the coaching staff is at fault, not the team. 8 in a row, really? We had good enough talent to go 4-2 to open the season but then your team just flat out quits, thats on the coaching, something happened and no one is saying what it is, may be the Talib crap in London was the last straw for these guys. Though I see them keeping Morris thru the last game of the season, at the end of the game win or lose, hand him his next season’s paycheck so he’s off your books and fire him directly, and announce it at the post game presser. That would make me & I think many many many fans happy.

  8. OB Says:

Joe, I was for giving Raheem another year, but not now and the reason is quite simple, he has not benched or cut any of the under and/or non performing players. By doing this to a couple, the rest get the message and you get to try out what you have left to see if you want them.

I don’t know if it is because the OL doesn’t give Josh time to throw or the receivers being inept, but when was the last time you saw any of ours as wide open as our opponents? Are are DBs that bad?

Raheem is not pulling the trigger on any of the problem and must either do it in the few remaining games, or get a proven trigger puller.

    Your thougts?

    BUCS ARE PATHETIC !

  10. Scott Says:

I believe that the Tampa Plant State Championship Game was getting more views locally then the Bucs!

Once again Raheem has shown that he can not get this team moving in the right direction. Eight Straight losses, that is not acceptable in today’s world!

Time to cut the strings and bring in Cowher before we lose him to Miami!

It’s time to move on at the end of this season from Raheem & Olson. I’d like the Buc’s to go after Perry Fewell, discipline & innovative. Thoughts Joe?

Perry Fewell – New York Giants

Fewell will be one of the “hot” names for a head coaching position after this season. He has already had numerous head coaching interviews and like Ron Rivera the last few years, has been the bridesmaid too many times. Fewell has been a coordinator in Buffalo and New York and done an excellent job at both stops. He is highly respected by his players, fellow coaches and front office people. As a coordinator he runs an aggressive scheme which I like, and has done a great job adjusting to overcome injuries to key players. While in Buffalo he was named “interim” head coach for the last few games of the 2009 season and the Bills played their best football of that season under his leadership. There is not a doubt in my mind that Fewell will be an excellent head coach in the league.

59 of the Titans 76 points was given up in one game against the 16-0 Patriots in the snow. Patriots > Jacksonville + Carolina + Dallas.

I’m surprised I haven’t heard anyone mention they want the OC of the Panthers…

That Norv Turner sure can coach up some offense.

    Just sayin.

I know, I know – can’t win the big one. But damn his team was on fire last night.

There are players on this team that are starters when they should be no more than backups. THAT I can agree with.

But Raheem Morris cannot fire players…Mark Dominick can. And doing so this close to the end of season would be a useless gesture.

I would love a Giants-type of defense (even though they are currently struggling as well).

The problem I see in this move is our defensive scheme. I don’t think that’s cover 2 the giants play, and its a little late to switch directions now. Our guys are a bit under-sized for 3-4 I think.

I believe our defense is only a few spots (and experience) from excelling. CB is a huge issue. Ronde is da bomb, but we may have seen his last game in Raymond James this week. Biggers, even though year 2, plain out sucks as a starter. I wouldn’t mind him as a backup, but not a starter.

Talib has regressed, and we don’t even know if he’ll be here next year. Certainly, if we get a new HC, the new one will likely insist Talib be released or traded because of the trouble he gets into.

So at CB, we see our weakest position going into the future. If it we better, we would have seen a much better defense this year. Our offensive line is growing with 2 rookies, but it improved in leaps and bounds.

MLB is set in my book. Foster has been imroving from game to game…for a rookie playing the QB position of the defense, he’s doing well enough so far.

At OLB we need work. Black, I hate to say, has not done a good job. I would like to keep him, but not as starter.

I NEVER thought Hayes was a proper Brooks replacement.

On offense we need a burner WR, a burner RB and some oline improvements.

    Hey Joe,

Great picture of Thomas 2.2 with his bag on.

Seriously, if the Bucs lost out, Rah must go. Plain and simple. This organization is 2 A$$ Whoopings away from revolution, and I am digging it.

Not until after the season, likely early on a Friday evening or late on a Friday afternoon.

  20. Captain Stagger Says:

Would I take an 8-8 team that fought every week? Yes, and Freeman is a better QB now than Vince Young was then…..

    2 weeks …..god this taking forever…..

  21. Higher728 Says:

I believe the normal day is ‘Black Monday’, the day after the end of the regular season. And I think many of them try to do it together just to keep the attention off of any single HC that was just let go.

  22. stevek Says:

Florida is def going 3 for 3.

Sparano is out at Miami, Del Rio is gone with Jaguars, and Rah should def get outta here.

  23. Matt Says:

    @eric

I would totally be on board with Turner…as the OC, not head coach.
