Bennett Said He Channelled Troy Polamalu

October 4th, 2011

Joe’s already ripped BSPN for shamefully ignoring Michael Bennett last night, so Joe feels compelled to give Bennett some extra love.

His performance should be heralded. It’s not like the guy came out of left field. He can play.

Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network after last night/this morning’s victory, Bennett explained his superman-like flying sack/strip/recovery in the first quarter.

“I just saw the block and I was like, ‘Man, I need to make one of them Troy Polomalu plays.’ And I just jumped over him and stripped the ball,” Bennett said.

It was a damn special play. Joe hasn’t seen too many defensive linemen send themselves airborne like that.

Bennett went on to say the Bucs just need to keep teams in 3rd-and-long and the pass rush will be there consistently as he feels its been all year.

Couldnt agree more, It seems like if we can hold the offense to a 3rd and 5 or more we get consistent pass rush. If we let teams get 3rd and 2 or 3 we cant be as aggressive.

I was extremely excited about the way the entire dline played yesterday. Gmac was monster, Bennet played great, and Clayborn has been his violent self week in and week out.

Espn does stink with only covering “premier” players and ignoring everyone else. But as Long as Curtis Painter, Alex Smith Drew brees knows who he Is .. I am happy

and By the Way .. 11th ranked Run D right now … 9th in Points

Impressive for a Defense that is just out of Egg stage and barely crawling yet

  3. OB Says:

Price and Bowers were also in there and are playing at the same level, in fact the rotation is such that sometimes you don’t know who is in there until you see the number since the play is the same.

  4. Nick2 Says:

Awesome play and on his other sack he was leaping too. This guy definitely has skills and I have to hand it to Raheem not to start Bowers in front of him if Bennet is the better playmaker. Our D line is looking very good right now and from what I heard they racked up 15 tackles and McCoy had 5 of them and a sack. Lets just shore up our secondary and we could have a great defense!

  5. Meh Says:

Bennett and Parker should share the game ball for this one. Who woulda thought that before the season started?

  6. Dan Says:

impressive considering one fourth of our run d stats are against adrian peterson, and another fourth against michael turner.

  7. Mauha Deeb Says:

I’m gonna start wearing a “WWSWD?” bracelet.(What would Steve White Do?) He has been calling for more Bennett for over a year. Now that we get more Bennett(more snaps than any other DL) we have pressures and sacks from the left side consistently as well as some solid run stop.

Bucs are now tied for 5th in the NFL with 10 sacks and are on pace for a 40 sack season.

This DL is a far cry from what we saw last year. In a very positive way.

Good riddance, Stylez White and Kyle Moore.

  8. Steve From Oregon Says:

Great to see that we can continue to win when we are not playing our best ball. It really goes to show how well we should start playing as the season goes on.

My biggest concern…..Aqib…..seriously….nothing else needs to be said.

  9. Mauha Deeb Says:

PFF just gave Bennett a grade of 11.5 for the game. Highest grade of any player, at any position, in any game all year. Which gives him a year total of 12.6 lol.

GMC had a 5.8 which moved him into 4th place amongst all DTs/NTs for the year(7.8).

Of course, there are still 8 games still yet to be graded this week.

  10. Mauha Deeb Says:

Aqib just needs to learn how to pursue and stop the penalties. His coverage was fine for the game but his pursuit leaves much to be desired. His running coverage abilities and block shedding also need work. But as far as coverage goes, he is doing ok(always room for improvement).

There is even a video on YT of Jordy Nelson leaving Talib in the dust. Perhaps he is not as fast as I thought he was.

I am just euphoric over the great play of our young D-line! They are playing so well as a complete unit! They stay in their gaps, maintain their containments, and play team ball. Nobody is risking giving up big plays to get a sack. They are doing their jobs correctly, and the Sacks are coming. Crowder and Bennett have continued to improve on last year. McCoy is doing what we hoped he could do! He is in the Backfield so fast ,every play, that it’s throwing the offense off. He has such amazing speed off the snap.

Millard and Stretz are doing an incredible job with these young guys! So much different than last year. Especially McCoy. It’s fun to be on defense again in Tampa!

This draft- We go CB- LB- CB-LB! With a light shut down corner. And a real Sam- we dominate for years!

  12. Mauha Deeb Says:

I don’t have any problems drafting a CB in the first but I don’t think SLB needs an upgrade yet. I want to see more Watson. We haven’t seen much these past two game because we’ve been playing soooo much nickel. We only had 3 LBs on 27 of our 57 defensive snaps. That is crazy low! But I’m not worried so long as Ronde is out there. I just want to see more Watson than Black.

I’d say some OL depth or a Safety in the second. Maybe an LB in the third(Hayes heir). Possibly another cb later in the draft. Can never have too many! lol But heck, it is way too early to be serious about the draft. Our minds may change drastically by the end of the year.

  13. Steve From Oregon Says:

Great point Mauha Deeb……I agree, I would really like to see more Watson and less Black….He just seems to have a knack for making plays.

  14. RastaMon Says:

    they…the youngsters…are starting to get it…..

Bennett was excellent last night, actually the entire defensive front 7 looked good. Before you sheep get excited, 4 of the colts lineman were second-stringers, 3rd stringers and rookies. In fact, one of their lineman was an undrafted free agent who did not even play College football, he played a lot last night.

The Colts offense is decimated with injuries and is a fraction of it’s former self. This win was tantamount to 8 of their ten wins last year, the first and second string qbs hurt, and the Bucs get an inept opponent.

With that said, they won, which I wasn’t sure they were going to do for 3.5 quarters. Olson was smart to unleash Blount in the fourth, he is most effective as a closer.

3-1 is very good, what I expected. The test really starts week 6, unless they of course stumble in San Fran, maybe the 49ers will sign Troy Smith this week.

  16. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Where have you been Thomas? Is that the best you got? Come on, can’t you bring more negativity than that? Why haven’t you been posting for the last 3 weeks (with the exception of a GMC bashing or two)? Not one single post after the Atlanta win! I thought you loved this team and would be happy to pronounce yourself an idiot. But I guess you knew we would be 3-1 all along, and you are hoping the losses start piling up.

  17. patrickbucs Says:

If they can stop the run against the 49er’s and cover the flat they can eat up that offensive line against this week as well. Staring to develop a old school like swagger..

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

I agree about more looks at Watson! He seems to have a nose for splash plays. He really improves our Run defense.

Quincy Jane, on the other hand . .
