Is Derrick Ward Fat?

August 26th, 2010

Joe can’t make a big deal out of Tampa Tribune NFL writer eye-RAH! Kaufman uncovering that Raheem Morris thinks Derrick Ward was too heavy when he arrived at training camp.

Kaufman broke the news in an exclusive today.

According to his head coach, Ward is out of shape.

Ward, who turns 30 on Monday, hasn’t run effectively since the Bucs signed the ex-Giant to a lucrative free agent deal March 3, 2009.

“When you get a bit older in this league, especially as a running back, you have to realize that you need to come into camp at a lighter weight, not heavier,” Coach Raheem Morris said. “I still have a lot of confidence in Derrick Ward that he’ll be ready and in shape to help us this season.”

Perhaps Ward picked up poor eating habits from the Kardashians? Maybe he got hooked on the incredible wings at Mugs Grill & Bar?

The fact that none of the beat scribes, and Joe, didn’t pick up on Ward looking pudgy during training camp leads Joe to believe his weight gain was insignificant.

Of course, players go through body fat analysis when they arrive, so likely that number on Ward saw a good percentage increase, even if his weight was up only slightly.

Joe really couldn’t care less. The Bucs need Ward to be successful, and for him to start by snapping out of his funk on Saturday night. Relying on Cadillac Williams and Kareem Huggins feels like a disaster-in-waiting.

Me and boy said Ward looked overweight and sluggish the very first day of camp.

  2. Gary Says:

Yea, might have been insignificant weight gain. He himself said he feels great and is ready to go.

But if he doesn’t show up on saturday then we really need to start considering options. There will be no excuses then. I would love to get something in return for him.

30….sorry old man…just another name is the historical stats @ NFL.com

  4. gotbbucs Says:

i hope he is fat, then at least he would have an excuse for why he’s sucked so badly.

  5. lightningbuc Says:

They’re going to need to hire Jenny Craig over at One Buc. First, Dominik saying Penn is a lard ass (albeit OFF the record) and now Rah calling Ward out for being fat.

  6. Javier n Wimauma Says:

damn joe, those are some tasty looking cheeseburgers!!!

  7. Vorblaw Says:

What I’m not liking is Raheem the Dream battling with his players through the press.. i.e. Sabby the Goat and now Ward. Not that both of them don’t deserve the slings and arrows being tossed their way.

  8. bucnjim Says:

Got to call them like you see them! There was too much sugar coating last year so it’s good to see players getting called out who actually need it. Does anyone think Ward & Sabby deserve anything but a good kick in the A$$. They talk like pro bowlers that have been disrespected!!

  9. McBuc Says:

Javier…You and I have found common ground…those are indeed tasty looking burgers.

  10. McBuc Says:

Hey lightning…I think I served him some fries the other day! LOL

  11. oar Says:

Tasty looking cheese burgers? Yes! But, Lemonade? HELL TO THE NO! Where’s da Caybrew, Joe?

  12. lightningbuc Says:

    McBuc,

Yes, tell the Bucs their money is not welcome at McDonalds

  13. Jonny Says:

@Oar: Caybrew no longer seems to be Joe’s favorite beer, they stopped advertising here on the website and Joe is acting like he’s all about Johnny Walker now.

  14. oar Says:

Jonny, You know I didn’t even notice that. I guess my head is too far up my own ass, cause I can’t see a damn thing!

  15. eric Says:

Personally, I like Five Guys burgers and a big paperbag full of fries!

  16. Radio Mushmouth Says:

He looks about the same size he’s always been to me…I think he’s just tanked it …he got his pay-day and now he doesn’t give a crap.

  17. Pete Dutcher Says:

I would like to state something very important here…

…those are some nice looking hamburgers!

  18. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Ward “Likes em thick”, and maybe in a effort to put some meat on Kim, got himself Fat in the process ??? Whatever, he needs to go. Huggins looks better, and gives us a real change of pace type back defenses will have to account for. Huggy Bear may not be Chris Johnson, but miss a tackle on him, and he can go to the house on any play. IF Ward does make it through the line, he gets run down from behind all too easy. Ward had Big Brandon Jacobs in NY to wear defenses down, and Plaxico Burress and Eli Manning for defenses to worry about. He has done little since coming here to Tampa, and even less lately. Time to say goodbye to him. In fact, he should never have been signed in the first place.

  19. Gatorbuc15 Says:

Just another reason why Huggy Bear needs to start in front of Ward.

  20. Javier n Wimauma Says:

Yeah Eric, I’m sure you do like 5 Guys… I’m sure you do!!!

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

5 Guys is pretty good, but in Sarasota we have “Hot Diggity Dog” and their burgers are bigger and better than 5 guys, but 5 guys is still good. Cheeburger Cheeburger is not as good and all they serve is Pepsi, no Coke.

  22. BigMacAttack Says:

Ward dated Chloe, who is now married to Lamar Odom, and has been for a while. Reggie Bush was doing Kim, and Ward was playing wingman, but Chloe said he was too fat.

  23. Javier n Wimauma Says:

    Odom had more money.

    NBA players get paid more.

  24. McBuc Says:

Bigmac, you been watching TV with the wife? I think Chloe also has a kid with Odem, so we probably should change Ward’s nichname at this point.

  25. RustyRhino Says:

    @ Joe
The Burgers look Great!! and a few shots of Johny Walker in the Lemon-aid Makes this Photo all the better.
