Not On Twitter? What’s The Matter With You?

June 4th, 2010

Joe knows how many people come visit him on this site, and Joe is humbled by the loyalty of his readers, and Joe warmly thanks each and every one of you.

Joe also knows how many people follow him on Twitter. It’s a puny fraction of his daily traffic on this site. What gives?

Joe is about to reach a milestone on Twitter with the number of followers, and you can put him over that milestone today. All it takes is a simple click of the mouse?

Still suspicious of all the news and information you can gleam from Twitter? Well, maybe Alyssa Milano can change your mind?

If you tweet you’re a twat

F*ck twitter, do I really care to hear what the random daily thoughts are of a person I couldn’t care less about in real life? I think not.

Not directed exclusively at you Joe, just twiiter fools in general.

    Gary:

Dude, you couldn’t be more wrong about information. It all depends who you follow (Joe doesnt’ follow Alyssa Milano). The stuff Joe learns daily from Twitter is incredible.

Just have to follow the right people.

(And, yeah, Joe used to believe about Twitter just what you think.)

I used to feel like the first two posters a month or two ago. Now I can’t get enough twitter. It is a great thing and you get so much info from it. Sure there is garbage to sort through, but I get a lot of good stuff about the Bucs, Rays, movies, news, politics, etc.

Mike Williams just signed a 4-year contract. Learned that from twitter.

Bingo! Joe felt the very same way at one point about Twitter: that it was for high school girls. Once Joe found the right people to follow, it’s one of Joe’s primary sources of information.

You get to pick the person/subject(s) you want to follow, and in flows the information.

Reporters and analysts put out a lot of stuff of Twitter that you never see in their papers/websites/tv or radio shows.

Herm Edwards is a Twittering machine. He rarely mentions the Bucs but the inside-football stuff he puts out is really cool.

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are always pumping out good stuff. Various radio shows will Twitter who their guests are so you know when to tune in, etc.

Twitter is a helluva lot better than Facebook and people that don’t use Twitter confuse the two.

Awesome how Mike Williams is now signed!

    Joe,

If WR Patrick Crayton gets cut from the Cowboys, do we think we should consider signing him?? He’s been fairly solid throughout his career and he contribute as a #3 guy or just provide some much needed depth and veteran leadership. He’s 31 but he hasn’t had any injuries that I know of and he hasn’t been banged up that much. I mean who knows, Stroughter or one of our other guys could plummet this season and do awful. So I think we should give this some consideration.

    Twitter smitter.

I don’t use Facebook, myspace, etc.,

If it’s important enough I’ll find it but twitter..come on now…really?

Now since Joe’s needs infor to put out their website I can understand but from an average joe’s POV – why the rush?

I’ll get home, fire up the laptop, crack open a Caybrew and read all about it. Twitter is just like crack – JUST SAY NO!

  9. Mr. Lucky Says:

I don’t text either. I understand how to and may do it once a month to the Mrs, but forgive me for thinking a phone is to be used to TALK to someone.

    Don’t tweet on me!

  10. mpmalloy Says:

I’m sure it’s a good source of unique information
but you would never catch Malloy tweeting…..

    The whole thing is flawed.
1st off and exhibit 1: It’s called “TWEETING”
Secondly: You are a “FOLLOWER”….a non-leader……a pseudonym for loser.

I will nobly refrain from ever tweeting.
Godspeed to the rest of you.

Joe totally agrees about the verb.

    Mr.Lucky:

Using a phone to talk? How 20th century of you! πŸ™‚

  12. Patrick Says:

Joe i asked you a question in a post above

  13. Joe Says:

    Patrick:

Not ignoring you. Want to do some research and Joe Is away from his computer on his blackberry.

Doing research on a blackberry is a pain. Joe will answer when he gets home.

  14. Joe Says:

Patrick, Joe is away from his computer. On face value Joe doubts it.

  15. Mr. Lucky Says:

Hey Joe maybe you should tweet that question and see how its answered? I mean wouldn’t you want to tweet on a cowboy? πŸ˜‰

  16. Mr. Lucky Says:

Patrick, why would you want Crayton? he’s nothing more than a 3rd receiver and the Bucs are heavy in the WR department with the acquitions of Williams and Benn.

Go to yahoo sports and click on the Bucs team and depth – it shows our rookies as starters with Bradley and Brown as backups.

Then you gotta realize Crayton was paid 1.5 million – compared to the 358K that Sammy received!

  17. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Twitter being so popular is a sad testiment to the fact that the majority of people are stupid enough to think that the rest of the world is interested in every mundane detail of thier daily boring life.

  18. thomas Says:

The bucs are heavey at wr – did u start happy hour real early MR LUCKY -like January?

The Bucs have no bona fide #1 or #2 receiver right now. sure we hope benn and williams translate to the nfl – but noone knows yet. If either or both do – it is VERY unlikely to be this year (see, Jacquez Green, Reidel Anthony, Dexter Jackson, Mo Stovall, even Clayton although he did have an unusual rookie year).

This team is in DIRE need of a quality vet at the WR position. AS you said the depth shows the rooks, brown and bradley as the top 4, there may be UFL teams with more solid wrs.

Crayton is ABSOLUTELY worth bringing to camp he would probably be our #1 once he got familiar with the system, then sprinkle in the rooks and stroughter and I feel a little better!

  19. Mr. Lucky Says:

Thomas I didn’t say the Bucs were STACKED at WR. They have lots of untested players listed at that position.

Talent-wise Crayton would probably be an upgrade; definately over Clayhands.

However give the Bucs youth movement (i.e., cheaper/less expensive players) I would be extremely surprised if they did sign Crayton.

  20. Mr. Lucky Says:

Thomas BTW – our country is heavy with politicans too! πŸ™

  21. thomas Says:

On that we agree, I would by shocked if they made a decision not based on money and just based on what is best for the team to sign crayton.

Dont get me wrong – I am not suggesting that Crayton is Jerry Rice – but given this batch of unproven players (or proven to be horrible players like clayton, bradley, brown, stovall (not horrible but bad)), I believe that crayton would be the surest thing.

  22. Patrick Says:

    @Mr. Lucky

I like Benn, Williams, and Stroughter but they haven’t proven a single thing yet. Bringing in Crayton would give us some depth and provide us with a proven, solid, veteran guy in the mix. I feel a lot better about the receivers now than I did last season, but I’d feel even better about having a “sure thing” kind of guy in the mix. Bring him here and let him compete. May the best man win. This would actually be good for the young guys. Besides, It’s hard to expect that all of our receivers are going to pan out. I’m trying to be realistic here. Remember, Sammie was a 7th round pick. Now, I hope he pans out, but I’m going to get my hopes up here.

It’s safe to assume that Benn, Williams, and Stroughter will be the starting receivers. Look who they’re competing with (Clayton, Bradley, etc..). If one of them fails, we’re in trouble. We need some insurance and a plan B.

I never said he’s anything great. He’s average, maybe a little better, but he’s decent. Take Antonio Bryant for example. When Gruden brought him to Tampa he was a nobody. Very average. How many people expected anything from him? But here he surprised everyone. Here it could be the same for Crayton. Same happened to Galloway. He wasn’t that great when he came, but he put up three 1,000 yard seasons and became a productive guy for us. Joey G and AB also came to a team where the corps was not that good, so it helped them. It’d be a similar situation for Crayton. Weak receiving core. Not saying Benn, Williams and Stroughter won’t be good, we just haven’t seen them yet. Besides if he came here, there’d be situations where we could put all 4 of them out on the field.

Plus $1.5 million is not that much for an NFL player. I don’t think he’ll be asking for a whole lot of money, he just wants a chance to compete and have some kind of role and he’s not getting that in Dallas. He’s got a better chance in Tampa. I live in Texas so I’m pretty informed about the Cowboys.

  23. Eric S Says:

Crayton is a solid receiver. I would bring him in. Along with receiver, he can also return punts. He was better returning punts than Clifton last year.
