Raheem The Dream On Gerald McCoy

April 22nd, 2010

Raheem The Dream was on Cloud 9 at the prospect of landing defensive tackle Gerald McCoy in the first round Thursday night.

Appearing on WDAE-AM 620 live, Raheem The Dream was downright giddy.

“We’ve been thinking about this since the season ended. We’re really excited about the potential of what we are getting. We have a player we are proud to have and the fans will be proud to have.

“When you pick that high, you are always going to get calls. We had this guy on target. He was the guy we targeted. We went out and evaluated everybody. It’s a chess match and we won the chess game today.

“He’s a three-technique, no doubt about it. He will be the cornerstone of the defense. He will cause as much disruption as he can.

“He played all 40 games in college. That shows a lot about his endurance and how much he loves the game and how much he cares about his teammates.

“He’s the kind of a guy we wanted. He brings toughness and is violent.

“I am ecstatic. I am real ecstatic. I can’t wait to get my hand on him to mold him and get him to be the best he can be. We have to find ways to get him active and get him more involved and put him in the best position to have success.”

I think he was the highest rated player on their board.

I guess the prohibition on the word “violent” has ended at One Buc Palace?

radio is wrong again. he missed the miami game last year.

also, every pick they make is a “we can build a team around this guy.” Maybe u should wait to see him play a pro game first b/4 heaping that pressure on him.

Tampa Bay just got better today with this pick. The Tampa 2 Defense depends on a pass rusher who can get to the QB. Last year, we had no pass rush, and opposing QB’s picked us apart. A few more good picks like this, and Tampa will be competitive again.

    apple

how often did he get to the qb in college? not very often – either in sacks or pressures. why do u think he will better in the nfl?

  6. Radio Mushmouth Says:

The problem is he’s never been all that disruptive…he didn’t have half as many sacks , hurries , or tackles for loss as Suh.

I pray I’m wrong but this guy has serious bust factor.

Take it easy dream, remember even Sapp struggled early.

  8. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Thomas, he demanded double teams, if you look at some big 12 game films.
This makes everyone around him better, just like Sapp did. Suh was gone when we picked, and how could we pass on him ? I think we did the best we could, considering our needs. Sure, we could have traded up, but Detroit was really high on Suh all along, and wanted our first born child this year, and our unborn child next year. Yes, we could have traded down, maybe taken a chance on the USF Kid, if he was still there. We needed a pass rusher, and I think we got one. But we thought that with Gaines Adams too ? I never liked the Gaines Adams pick, never felt good about his chances as a Pro. I do feel good about McCoy, lets hope I am right ?
