Numbers Don’t Favor Clayton

April 24th, 2010

Joe’s starting to wonder whether blocking icon Michael Clayton will devote himself to special teams to save his job, or whether newly drafted receiver Mike Williams has the work ethic and desire to cover kicks and punts.

Regardless, the numbers aren’t looking good for Clayton.

Here’s a look at the Bucs depth chart at receiver: Surely, only five will make the final roster.

Sammie Stroughter
Maurice Stovall
Reggie Brown
Arrelious Benn (rookie)
Mike Williams (rookie)

Michael Clayton
Mark Bradley
Michael Spurlock
Terrance Nunn
Mario Urrutia

Unless Williams is a total head case or injuries bite the Bucs, Joe just can’t see Clayton on the roster for opening day.

I think the Bucs will keep six WR’s, as many team do. When you have a lot of youth and inexperience you want to cover for the potential injury/ineffectiveness possibilities. The question is who those six will be.

If only a team could trade a pair of used socks for a player…I think Clayton would be gone.

Benn, Williams, Stroughter, Brown, and Stovall will make the roster. I think Clayton will be released or traded. Unless, we trade for a receiver after the draft, I think that’s how it’ll be.

Safety and Clanghands is a misnomer, much like military intelligence. Like a tornado hitting Zephyrhills and causing $2 million worth of improvements, when Clanghands gets cut, it will improve this team by a least 50 percent.
