Bucs Might Have To Be Agressive For Suh

April 18th, 2010

It’s pretty clear, though not yet etched in stone, that the Bucs will have a shot at defensive tackle Gerald McCoy Thursday night, and may have an outside chance to get manbeast defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

McCoy appears to be the safe bet, but do the Bucs really want McCoy? For obvious reasons, general manager Mark Dominik is guarding this information as a state secret, as he shouldl. eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune, posting on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed, believes if Dominik really wants Suh, Dominik will have to make a bold move.

If the Bucs really want Suh, they have to trade up with the Lions. If it cost me a third-rounder to move up, I’d have to consider it.

The trick here is, how much does Detroit want Suh, if at all? Perhaps they covet offensive tackle Russell Okung more than Suh? If that is the case, maybe the second overall pick can be had without too much bleeding.

If Dominik really wants Suh, he may have to make a deal with the Rams. Clearly Detroit isn’t going to trade for a quarterback nor will the Bucs. Sam Bradford will still be there at three.

How much that would cost the Bucs to trade with the Rams, who knows? And would Dominik be willing to pull the trigger on such a deal?

That’s just plain stupid. If the Bucs believe that their later round picks are as valuable as they’ve alluding to there is no way in Hades Dominik would give up that 3rd round pick.

Second thing to consider – how much is it going to cost a team to sign Suh? The dude has already promised 2.8 million to Nebraska – what is he expecting to be signed for? I think with with last year’s signing of Stafford to that $40+ and Haynesworth $40+ he may be wanting in that neighborhood – something I don’t think would be in the Bucs price range – at least not if I were signing the paychecks.

Play the hand at 3…..if Suh and McCoy are gone take Okung….simple
    geeshh……absolutely don’t trade up for Gods sake……anyone remember Paul…..

You guys are drunk with stupidity if u think these cheapskates will trade up and get the best player in the draft hands down (meaning suh) b/c it will cost more contract $. (I dont care what Dom says re $ is not an issue, he is either lying or not informed).

This team will do the most cost-effective thing – either trade down or take mccoy and cut hovan (to neutralize the cost).

Hello….BBT(BucBrainTrust)…..you were in control of your own destiny last fall when the NO Saints dealt the defining blow to twice a year foe by tactically playing the days game…..but hey …you got a death grip on the short end of the stick….. BBT

  5. Radio Mushmouth Says:

As much as I am on the Suh bandwagon , if we trade up to get him, I will go apeshit.

That would be the stupidest thing ever.

  6. thomas Says:

    Radio:

You mean tell mean that you would not trade a 2010 or 2011 3rd round pick – (last year Roy Miller, in prior years, zuttah, stovall, black, alex smith) – all very disposable and replaceable players, to Guarantee Suh over either McCoy, Okung or Berry. That would be a very radio-like position. I expect more from you Radio.

  7. thomas Says:

Surprisingly, I did not proofread that prior post.

You mean to tell me . .

  8. Radio Mushmouth Says:

thomas …in next year’s draft ?? Maybe …I thought it was this year’s 3rd rounder we’d have to give up.

Regardless , I’d be hesitant , because I have a gut feeling we may not even need to , because the Lions are going to want to build a wall in front of Stafford , and may go with Okung.

  9. mlloye Says:

I see no reason to move up. I absolutely want Suh but I fully believe he will be there at 3. Rams need a QB and Lions need Okung more than they need a DT, Lions have already spent mad $$ on the D-line, now they are going to put some $$ into porotecting their Big $$ QB. If the Lions wanted Suh they would not be trying to trade down. and they have tried. I think the lions were trying to trade down toi get Spillar and they could still pick up a good OT later, but, if they cant trade down then they will pick up the best OT in the draft. “Bucs take Suh @ #3”.

  10. Eric Says:

Depends on how the bucs view Suh. If they think he is a superstar in the making, and is much better than McCoy, why not?

Who knows what Rah concluded after his extensive film review work?

Im no expert, but i think Suh has a better chance of being a really elite player than McCoy.

They could easily justify it. Not like they haven’t been inconsistent before.

  11. RastaMon Says:

“If they think he is a superstar in the making, and is much better than”…..
I really don’t trust the way they think……lets start with that as a premise

  12. jake Says:

If they really have to have Suh. They could potentially give up a 3rd to move up and then get a 3rd back by trading down with pick 2b. Of course it takes two to tango so this is all conjecture at best.

  13. Eric Says:

    @RastaMon

You wont find an argument from me! Unfortunately, they are the ones in power.

Ill take it one further. Whoever they pick makes little difference, because they will be coached by Mr. Morris and his half ass bottom of the barrel coahing staff.

But, since we have no trades to talk about, or playoff runs, speculating about the draft is all that remains. IMO it is an exercise in futility, but has some entertainment value.

The schedule is released Tuesday. It will have real NFL teams with real NFl coaches on it.

    whoops.

    I love stuff like this:

    Pretty open-minded.

  15. gotbbucs Says:

The problem with this scenario is that St. Louis would probably lose out on Bradford if they traded back to #3. Detroit would then trade down with Clevland and the Browns would get Bradford.
As far as I’m concerned, no, I wouldn’t trade up. We’re gauranteed a stud picking at #3. Suh, McCoy, Okung, or Berry. Take your pick, they’ll all be great players. This draft is heavy in talent in the 2nd thru 5th rounds and we need all of those picks to be able to manuever around in those rounds and get the guys we’re targeting.

I believe you will eat those words in a matter of days. You sound like a Newb when it comes to the Bucs. Since you are so close to the door on the bandwagon, now might be a convenient time to jump off and maybe find a kickball team with unlimited funds. If not, there is always the Redskins. I will give you one thing, drunk and stupid often go hand an hand.

  17. JimBuc Says:

BigMac — you realize those were not my words, right? I was commenting on the words provided by Thomas.

  18. tampa2 Says:

I guess we all agree that Suh is the player that would make the most impact the Bucs. After Suh, I think that Berry has more value to us than McCoy. McCoy is suspect, while Berry is sure. But I also agree that team Glazer thinks about cash more than they think about helping our team. So they will never trade up. But they may well trade down. Eric is right when he says that speculation is just an excersize in futlility. Escpcially with this crew.

  19. JimBuc Says:

Tampa2 — this comment is a contradiction, particularly in Tampa:

“But I also agree that team Glazer thinks about cash more than they think about helping our team.”

“This team will do the most cost-effective thing – either trade down or take mccoy and cut hovan (to neutralize the cost).”

Is this your statement for setting the team in a “get Suh or you’re cheap-azz faillures” trap?

So, by this statement, if the team sits pat and Bradford goes 1, Suh goes 2, Bucs taking McCoy at 3 is a cheap, unwilling to spend money cop out move?

Some of you are absolutely amazing with having zero chance of this team satisfying your wants. I believe, if the team pulled some crazy miracle trade that allowed them to pic Suh, McCoy, Spiller, Weatherspoon, Graham, Bryant and Thomas, some of you would still bitch that they did not get Berry!!

As somebody already stated: Get off our wagon now and save your grief. We’ll stay for the ride and see where we end up!

  21. bucfanjeff Says:

I’m late to the party here…but no trading up. Stay @ #3 and take McCoy.
