Ndamukong Suh Is Better Than Glenn Dorsey

February 19th, 2010

If one sniffs around the Internet enough, one can find a treasure trove of information on future NFL draft picks that, three or four years ago, simply wasn’t available to Caybrew-soaked football freaks like Joe.

Joe follows Daniel Jeremiah on Twitter and sometimes reads his musings on his site, “Movin’ the Sticks.”

Jeremiah is a former NFL scout who worked for Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens, and later Butch Davis and the Browns before Eric Mangini cleaned house. Jeremiah admits he’s trying to be the next Mike Mayock and get a gig in the Fourth Estate, so the information he has been pumping out as a virtual resume is astounding.

One of the rumors about manbeast defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is he’s the next Glenn Dorsey: a bust.

The two are linked by being Bo Pelini disciples. Pelini was the defensive coordinator at LSU when Dorsey dominated SEC offenses and Pelini, obviously, was Suh’s head coach at Nebraska.

Jeremiah basically claims the Pelini rap is nonsense and breaks down the different between Suh and Dorsey, now floundering with the Chiefs.

1. Body types: Totally different builds. Suh is a big, square body with minimal body fat. Dorsey is under 6-foot-2, fleshy and a little narrow for a DT.

2. Durability: Several NFL teams had major concerns with Dorsey’s leg. His lack of conditioning was also a concern.

3. Versatility: Suh can play multiple spots in either the 3-4 or the 4-3. Dorsey is better suited as a 4-3 DT. He lacks the power of Suh to consistently 2-gap on run downs.

4. Raw Power: Suh has incredible strength in his lower half and in his hands. Dorsey relied more on his initial quickness and technique.

That’s one thing Joe has noticed with Suh is that the guy has really good handwork.

You can not teach super-human brute strength , and Kong Suh has it.

Even if he busts as a pass-rusher , he will always be good at stuffing the run , because he’s a monster, and it would take a bulldozer to move him out of his gap.

He is can’t miss , IMO.

One thing that struck me watching Suh (& I would like Mr. White’s take on this)is that he has a real knack for diagnosing plays quickly & finding the ball–not all that hard from the 40th row, but pretty tough to do down at field level, surrounded by fast-moving big bodies. He also can move like a huge MLB at times–he will be murder on zone blitzes.

    @Mike J

I kinda disagree. Thing of it is Suh and Crick are taught to read and react. They aren’t supposed to do anything all that quick really but instead absorb the block and then react and go to the ball. Now because he is strong as hell Suh holds up well against most blocking schemes and he can react to make a play but its not particularly quickly in my opinion. Suh is one of those guys who is more fast than quick if you ask me. He will run a better 40 time than McCoy almost guaranteed but my money is on McCoy in the short shuttle drills. I’ll say this about Suh though, he can drift through a play kind of without any urgency but then turn on the jets if it breaks down field or of if all of a sudden the QB tries to take off on a scramble.

  4. Mike J Says:

Would you say, then, that Suh is ore of a two-gap type guy??

    Definitely

“KONG” SUH WAS A MAN AMONGST BOYS IN COLLEGE…HOWEVER IN THE PROS HE WILL BE A MAN AMONGST MEN….THAT POSES A WHOLE DIFFERENT SENARIO…..IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW HIS CAREER PANS OUT NO MATTER WHAT TEAM HE WINDS UP WITH…..ADAM FROM NY

PS STEVE WHITE – LOVED YOU ON THE BUCS…AND REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR INSIGHT ON JOE’S PAGE…..WHO BETTER TO LISTEN TO THAN YOU, AS YOU TOSS OUT THE KNOWLEDGE WITH SCIENCE & SKILLS…..WAY TO GO STEVE WHITE!!

  8. adam Says:

STEVE – IM JUST GLAD ON YOUR PICTURE ON THE SITE YOU ARENT ROCKING THE OLE “KID & PLAY” FLAT TOP FROM BACK IN LIKE 1990…..THAT WOULD MAKE FOR A HILARIOUS PIC……….IM JUST KIDDING AROUND…..SO PLEASE DO BULL RUSH AND SPIN ON MY A*S AS I HAVE THE HAPPIEST FEET IN TOWN…………ADAM FROM NY

    Interesting: http://profootball.scout.com/2/947712.html

  10. adam Says:

    mike j:

that was an interesting read…..wow i would do that move to get “kong” suh…..swap the 1 pick for the 3 pick….give them jj….and a third rounder….then trade ward off for another 3rd rounder….san diego needs a back like ward and will part with at least a 4th for him…if we squeeze them for a third then its like we swapped out jj and the number 3 pick for “kong” suh…as we can get back a third rounder in a trade as dominik plans on making moves via trade as he has already stated……i likey….adam from ny

ps if suh does become another warren sapp with a name like that people will nickname him “kong”….and if he becomes a superstar in the league he will thus be donned the name “king kong”………..we need kong suh to fill the seats and the glazers know it!!

  11. adam Says:

ok here is the seat filler for the glazers and ray jay………read the link that mike j put up….if that senario plays out and we grab suh at #1 and trade jj in the deal with the #3 pick……grab tebow in the second round and a lb…like spoon in the 2nd round as well….or spikes if hes there but he wont be there….or hughes from tcu……

so imagine us drafting suh and tebow….now we have a full house at ray jay again….who knows what we do with tebow but the splash of drafting those two would be enormous….then trade ward for an extra pick…and see if you can get spoon the linebacker or hughes from tcu…..think about it …….im just thinking as i type……adam from ny

  12. Eric Says:

The only thing certain in that scenario is that Josh Johnson would suddenly start lighting it up and win a Super Bowl!

  13. adam Says:

i was thinking the same thing eric…jj leaves and thus becomes a superstar…yikes!!

  14. Mike J Says:

I sorta like the proposed deal, either way.I think it would be good for both clubs. If the consideration is a #2, Josh the Lesser would still be available to trade. I like the guy but the Bucs can’t simultaneously develop two young quarterbacks.
If Suh is a Pro Bowler, let alone an All Pro, three or four years from now, who will recall the price paid to get him??

  15. adam Says:

snag the freaky tebow in the 2nd or 3rd round…..after jj is gone…..he is a project anyway…and sign pennington……….do some trades and get more seconds and 3rds….to draft an lb…..a wr…..and so on….but if you grab suh and tebow in the draft the hoopla surrounding the bucs would be off the hook…….there is a good chance the glazers would have giant pictures of them streamlining down the sides of the stadium on the dale mabry side as the bucs season ticket waiting list would begin to grow deep again……we would suddenly have buccaneer fever hitting an all time pitch again……this draft could get very interseting…..adam from ny

ps let them have jj…..he had a chance to secure the qb spot and proved he is “rah’s” career back up…….they watched him every day….and im pretty sure the rams are just willing to take the gamble and hope to develop him…….that might mean the rams arent really interested in the qb’s offered in this years draft……also i see jj at best as another arron brooks type….and thats not bad because brooks had a few pretty good seasons.

  16. FuNkYxMuNkeY Says:

No way we trade JJ…I love this guy and the ONLY reason I wanted Gruden to stay is because he was gonna make JJ our Starter at the beginning of last year. No way we give up a 3rd round and JJ to move up 2 spots!!! If we do Dom. will def. be fired maybe before the year is over. We need more draft picks not less. Dom. already said he wants inbetween 12-14 draft picks this year not 9 and lose our backup.
