Hard to believe there was a time when the NFL embraced gamblers on one of its pregame shows

As usual after the Super Bowl, the good folks at bodog.com have posted betting lines to win the 2011 Super Bowl. And Raheem The Dream’s team was installed at 100-1 odds to win the Lombardi Trophy.

The Bucs join the Rams, Raiders, Chiefs, Lions, Bills and Browns at the bottom of the oddsmakers food chain.  The Redskins, Jaguars and Broncos are the next tier up at 50-1.

Don’t these oddsmakers know that the Bucs are on the right track and they could easily be the rags-to-riches team of 2010? Joe is stunned.

Of course, Joe is kidding, and understands the Bucs’ long odds. Interestingly, the University of South Florida football program is sitting at 75-1 to win the national championship next year. Joe would give the Bucs a much better shot at championship glory.

    100:1 sounds generous.

I would put it at 1000-1. I think the Saints will be better. Another year under G. Williams and that D could be a top 10 D. That is scary. The Falcons should be better as well. If they shore up their D and get Turner healthy they could be back on track. Carolina is the real mystery. Which way will they go. They could implode under the lame duck coach John Fox. Or they could 11-5 or 12-4. The Panthers are just one of those teams.

With the right moves, the Bucs could finish .500 next season. But a lot of things would have go right in free agency and the draft. Not sure if that is realistic.

I see big improvement in the Bucs, too. Under the very experienced & Savvy Coach Morris, the Bucs should improve to at least 4-12. And that is an improvement. So everyone run out to give the Glazers your deposit on the season tickets. I’d take USF at 75:1
