Raheem Quick To Hang Blame On Freeman

December 7th, 2009

Joe remembers Jon Gruden’s numerous Monday news conferences when he, in a phony way, would take blame for losses. Usually, Chucky would say something like, “That’s on me. I’ve got to get better as a head coach.”

Chucky’s protege Raheem The Dream didn’t use that kind of coachspeak today at One Buc Palace.

In a very matter-of-fact way, Raheem The Dream was quick to agree with a reporter’s premise that the Sunday’s loss in Carolina was simply a rookie quarterback making some very bad plays.

“That’s what it boils down to yesterday,” Raheem The Dream said in agreement. “[The Bucs had] the fifth best total of offense around here in history and six points to show for it. …Three critical mistakes in the red zone, you just can’t do that.”

Joe’s not a big fan of coaches putting a loss on one player. Maybe a screwed up play or two, or calling a guy out, but certainly not a whole game.

C’mon, Rah. Take some responsibility. Maybe hang a little on your offensive coordinator for putting Freeman in too many tough spots that he wasn’t prepared for yesterday.

Just last week Raheem The Dream proclaimed at his Monday news conference that “Stats are really for losers. I don’t like to talk about stats.”

Yet today Raheem The Dream is quoting yardage totals when his team scored just six points.

Joe agrees, Rah. To use your words, “Stats are really for losers.”

I love Freeman, always have, but Raheem is right and I would like to think Freeman said as much to the team in the locker room. The good news is that this year is all about learning anyway. Now if we can somehow manage to land Suh and Dez Bryant….

  2. The_buc_realist Says:

I think that we can blame some of the offensive scheme. You have heard of the Tampa 2 defense. Well on Offense we are running the Tampa Frankenstein Offense. Its very complicated, but by my score card its part West coast, with zone blocking Terminology, with part sandlot foortball. Its a very difficult offense to install. But somehow, the bucs have managed to install the Frankenstien Offense.

  3. Justin Says:

    Joe,

At least twice Raheem has declared that “Stats are for Losers,” the first time I know of being the one win this year.

Given the fact that the Bucs are pretty serious losers this year, shouldn’t Raheem have some stats out the wazoo?

Additionally, that quote just seems to me to be a statement of his lack of intelligence. Stats are useful tools. Why would Raheem decline to use them unless he lacks the statistical understanding to do so?

  4. BigMacAttack Says:

If Stats are for losers, then Raheem should know them inside out, upside down, & backwards.

  5. RastaMon Says:

you can not blame shit on any NFL QB making his 4th start…….

  6. J Lynch says Says:

He was pretty quick to take credit for being at the top of the red zone scoring!!!! What a joke. Its getting hard for me to criticize him. He is a real dumb ass. Olson is is his right arm knowing personell and play calling. Pound the ball ….. 44 paqss attempts a little out of balance??? Morris bgagged in his press confrence Freema thew for 320 plus yards. stats are for loser especially Radio fu$$ing Raheem

  7. Paul Says:

What the hell is up with his teeth in that pic. He got some major dental work done since then.

  8. bucsfanlostiniowa Says:

Got ta spend that money fast while it lasts!

  9. JoeMurgia Says:

Morris is right. And you cherry picked for comments for whatever reason. Yesterday, Morris also said…

“That’s just the confidence the kid has in his arm. He’ll get better. And he’ll make better decisions in some of those situations. You gotta put a little bit on me, too. Maybe I should start running the ball a little bit and not have so much confidence in him (Freeman).”

“We’re looking for that guy to stand up and be the closer. We’ve got one at QB. He just didn’t have a good day in the red zone.”

“We had 400 yards of offense. The 5th best total of offense around here in history….He’s going through his progressions. There’s a check down here. A shot here. There’s a throw there. A scramble here. And everything is working well. We get in the red zone and make three critical mistakes. You can’t do that. This is the NFL. It’s the 8-8 league.”

“…He’ll (Freeman) let us know what he can do. And he’ll make the smart decisions based on him getting older and growing. And that’s what he doing.”

Of course, these quotes didn’t fit your agenda for this blog entry so you didn’t refer to them.

Those quotes above are from yesterday and today.

    Joe here,

JoeMurgia – First let me say there is no agenda for anything you read on JoeBucsFan.com. Joe is a fan, and Joe writes his observations and about what moves him, in addition to compiling various Bucs stories of interest from writers nationwide.

For you to say there is an agenda makes you an ass or foolish, or both.

You think Joe’s is pulling stuff out of context? How about you spouting off quotes above without posting the actual question and assuming the quotes themselves are accurate.

Let me say that the quotes released by the Bucs, which is usually where they come from on other Web sites, are often edited heavily by the Buccaneers before release. JoeBucsFan.com only uses direct quotes transcribed directly from the unedited news conference video or from in-person notes, when it comes to news conference comments.

Joe listened to today’s news conference live and wrote here about the actual question asked of Morris and the response, not just the response.

It was the response to the direct question that was so striking. Perhaps you should re-read the post, unless of course you have an agenda.

Morris was asked (actually by Tom Koron of ABC-TV) whether we could all chalk up the Bucs loss as just a crappy day by a rookie quarterback. Morris said, yes, and went on to say his red zone mistakes cost the Bucs the game.

The ONLY thing this post is about is Joe disagreeing with the notion of a head coach hanging a loss on one player. It’s not right, and you won’t see winning coaches doing that around the league.

Got no idea what agenda you have, if any. But I suggest you brush up on your reading skills.

  12. JoeMurgia Says:

Joe (me) listened to both press conferences before I posted and transcribed them in my post. See, I can do that, too. You listened live? Who the hell cares? I listened an hour after the game and today. Only I included some of the quotes from Morris that were positive. You left them out. Gee, I wonder why?

One of the quotes I added was left out by you from the Morris answer to Tom Koron.

IMO, you have an agenda whether you see it or not. You can call me an ass or foolish or whatever childish retort you choose. Unless, of course, you’re writing me a private email, thanking me for my support and for posting your articles on Pewter Report. But as soon as I’m critical, I’m an ass or foolish. LOL. Funny how that works.

I like the information/links that I can get on this site and love the Steve White articles. But your comments usually have an angle, are biased and filled with childish nicknames or insults to other media outlets. Oops! I guess that makes me a foolish ass!

  13. admin Says:

    Joe here,

JoeMurgia, again there is no agenda here. I call my best friends an ass or foolish when we’re sitting around drinking beer or talking sports, when we disagree about what’s going on the field. It’s fun. It’s guy stuff. Don’t take yourself so seriously.

Yes, Joe thanks all his readers publicly and privately. That includes you. And I thank you for your support, both here and posting our stories here on Pewter Report message boards.

There is no secrecy. Thank you. Thank you. …Again, there’s no agenda.

When readers don’t like what they read, by all means fire away, say whatever you want about Joe. And Joe will respond.

Sorry you don’t like the nicknames. It’s just another way to keep things a little more fun on JoeBucsFan.com. It is sports after all, not the war in Afghanistan.

As for insulting other media outlets, nobody at JoeBucsFan.com has any dislike of other outlets. In 16 months and nearly 4,000 posts, we’ve taken about 5 or 6 shots at Pewter Report stories, and we have some fun with Rick Stroud, aka the Mad Twitterer, of the St. Pete Times. It’s hardly what we do around here.

That said, we also face Rick Stroud in the flesh and various Times staffers at Bucs games and at other venues. Same goes for Scott Reynolds, who actually agreed to an interview on JoeBucsFan.com back in October, if you remember, regarding the demise of the print edition of his colorful magazine.

It’s all in good fun, and we don’t hide in the bushes.

Again, thanks for all of your love. And remember, Joe’s face on top of this page is a cartoon character, he’s the face of the fan who gets fired up and calls it as he sees it, right or wrong.

  14. JoeMurgia Says:

No offense but you tell me not to take myself so seriously but in your other post, you said I was an ass and/or foolish for my opinion regarding your agenda. That didn’t seem like it was “all in good fun.” Name calling is fine. I can take it. But then don’t come back on here and say it was just for fun.

You assumed that I took the quotes on Freeman from other media outlets. You were wrong. Assuming is dangerous.

I’ll still continue to read SW wherever he posts his articles and I’ll continue to use JBF for links to other stories and/or videos.

  15. The_buc_realist Says:

    Oooohhh, a catfight!

  16. admin Says:

    Joe here,

JoeMurgia – Again, you’ll need to re-read everything to be clear. I can’t sit hear and translate for you.

And you’re cracking me up here with the lecture about assumptions. The only reason I even responded and got into this with you is because you stated/assumed with great confidence that there is an agenda with this blog entry.

And you made several other assumptions and mischaracterizations as well.

And I’ll write it again, and I’ll make it more general to protect the sensitive. Anyone who thinks JoeBucsFan comes at its Bucs coverage with an agenda is an ass or foolish. Nothing personal. That’s just the way it is.

Again, everything on this site is all in fun yet written to adhere to strict journalistic standards, and for those writing at JoeBucsFan.com, we approach every post to present our passionate takes-of-the-moment on the Bucs and sports media — two things we’re extraordinarily qualified to speak on.

  17. JoeMurgia Says:

Journalistic standards? You’ve got to be kidding! I enjoy the links and videos but your commentary does not rise to anything close to journalism. You consistently take quotes out of context. Morris hints the Bucs don’t want to win? Yeah, that’s what he meant.

My opinion is that you have a bias and agenda. Your response is that I’m an ass, foolish or both, for having that opinion. Yeah, that’s a high journalistic standard you have there.

  18. admin Says:

    Joe here,

    Sorry, JoeMurgia.

I don’t have time to assist you with reading comprehension and knowledge of journalism ethics and standards. You’ll have to brush on that yourself.

Here’s the link to the post with the headline “Raheem Hints That Bucs Dont “Want To Win”
    https://www.joebucsfan.com/?p=21019

Feel free to read it again with an objective view.

There is nothing there out of context. Not a darn thing. Feel free to forward it to an expert. Morris questioned his team’s “want to.” It’s a phrase used in sports pretty regularly. Steve White has used it many times.

Morris said it, not Joe. Fans can interpret his quote as they wish.

Coaches at times will question their team’s heart and desire to win at all costs. It’s interesting to read.
