Bucs Needed Win More Than Suh

December 22nd, 2009

The Bucs win over Seattle likely ruins the hope the Bucs draft Nebraska defensive tackle/manbeast Ndamakong Suh.

In a lot of Bucs fans eyes, Sunday’s win over Seattle wasn’t totally worthless, but not for the good reasons.

The same Bucs fans are upset that Tampa Bay is likely not going to be able to draft Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamakong Suh, a true terror on the football field.

Backwards Hat of the Lakeland Ledger, better known as Rick Brown, understands those grips but he makes the case that the win was not worthless, and possibly more important than drafting Suh.

It was more important for this staff to show that they do have direction and that the team had not quit on the season like that Jets game may have suggested.

It was important for the team to see Freeman start another game with an interception but finish the game 11-of-14 for 144 yards and two touchdowns.

It was important for the defense, which had played decently, to play the old bend-but-not-break style that made it famous.

Brown goes into further detail that Suh is not a sure thing and that it’s still possible the St. Louis Lambs draft a quarterback, which would still allow the Bucs to get their mitts on Suh.

i want 2 ask, suh is a stud in nebraska, but is guaranteed that he will be in the NFL??look at glen dorsey in the chiefs, no big deal, if we can rebuild with the draft i guess is a better way, can u imagine trading just a few steps down take eric berry and have another interestind draft pick?? if we can get Suh, i will be pleased but hes not the only one

No Eric Berry please. I worry people put too much stock into Kiffin’s endorsement and look how that turned out with Gaines. I realize the ‘draft best available’ mantra, but we still can and draft need – Gerald McCoy. He’s every bit as good and has better pass rush moves. I’d love to hear Steve Whites comparison of McCoy vs Suh.

Does everyone know for a fact that the Rams are going to take Suh? There have more needs than the Bucs… It’s still very possible we can draft him, however I am not opposed to trading that pick. The right trade can make a franchise, just ask the Cowboys.

….unless Detroit ends up with the 2nd pick and takes him.

Yea! I definitely like to hear Steve White’s Comparison on Suh vs McCoy, as well as which lineman that he believes that he would take in the draft. The first lineman pick doesn’t necessarily have to be between Suh and McCoy.

Detroit currently has the 2nd overall and we have the third.

I would think that after taking Chris Long as 1st overall and having a glaring need at the QB position, the Rams would take JImmy Clausen or Colt McCoy. Detroit is definitely going to take Suh if things stay as currently constructed. I live here in Detroit and he’s all they talk about in prepping for next year’s draft.

I would love to get G. McCoy in Raheem’s hybrid Tampa-2!

  8. Joe Says:

If both Suh and McCoy are off the board, the Bucs desperately need to draft down, maybe middle of the first round (no earlier) and select Eric Berry.

How freaking pathetic would that be if the Bucs have one of their worst seasons in franchise history and can’t even get a top-two pick?

  9. George C. Costanza Says:

Some of the fans are getting a bit obsessed with Mr. Suh, and it’s understandable. How can you resist a guy whose name translates into “House of Spears”?

He is, evidently, a solid citizen and a gifted athlete, but so too is Gerald McCoy, by all accounts.

Bottom line: this is a deep draft and we should get 1 or 2 guys who could break into the starting lineup as rookies. In addition, we should add some needed depth on both sides of the ball.

We just have to be smart and, in my view, not trade away any draft picks unless we’re absolutely sure there will be a big payoff.

The difference is McCoy has a quicker first step at the snap, but plays the run better. The Bucs need help inside to stop the run. Suh looks more closer to Sapp-ish than Mccoy.
