More Revisionist History

September 21st, 2009

This is starting to get terrible and Joe is fearing it will get worse.

Joe has already detailed the absurd kvetching of the Bucs for passing on Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson. Joe thought someone like former Bucs beat writer and current SI.com columnist Don Banks would know better.

Apparently not.

Banks takes each NFL team to task that passed on drafting Peterson in the 2007 draft. Naturally he calls out the Bucs.

4. Tampa Bay defensive end Gaines Adams — This is the slot where the pain of passing on Peterson really starts intensifying. In terms of top-five impact, Adams has been a disappointment, registering 12½ sacks, two interceptions and one touchdown in 25 career starts. The former Clemson star has not become a consistent pass rush threat as the Bucs have hoped, and Tampa Bay has played in and lost one postseason game since he arrived.

Stop it. Please, stop it!

There’s no way the Bucs were going to draft Peterson that year. Anyone who thinks otherwise really needs to do some modest research.

That is fine. We should forget about what happened with Peterson because we had the Caddy but I think what makes bucs fans as what if is the same situation will open itself up this year again. It looks like the Bucs will have a choice between McCoy, Stafford, Tebow, and possibly Snead and the bucs have hamstrung themselves with the Freeman pick this year. I hope Freeman was worth it otherwise get ready for post after post of what if’s for years.

And you are absolutely correct on every point. Your quarterback premise I beat to death in the days leading up to the draft. This may be the post of the month.

A lot of us agree and have been saying it all along. The only way we(The Bucs) get vindication is if Freeman truly becomes the franchise QB we have been looking for for as long as I can remember. I have been a fan since moving to Tampa in 1977 as a kid.
