Cuts Deadline Tuesday Afternoon

August 30th, 2009

The grim reaper came for four Bucs hopefuls. The Bucs have one more to release before Tuesday afternoon’s league deadline to trim rosters to 75.

Jarriet Buie (DE), DeAngelo Willingham (DB), Julius Wilson (G)  and former Vikings receiver and CFL star Kelly Campbell are now gone.

These guys each learned about $2,000 for their time in training camp, per figures revelaed by general manager Mark Dominik to the Buccaneer Radio Network on Thursday.

No suprises with the cuts, although Joe thought the speedster Campbell might get a longer look.

On Thursday, in his first preseason game action, Campbell had two catches from Luke McCown-thrown balls and got open in the end zone against man-coverage. On that play, the ball was thrown his way, but it was unclear whether it was overthrown or Campbell just couldn’t dive for the catch.

Joe saw him limping after the game and he had apparently re-injured his quad, which had kept him sidelined about two weeks.

Joe believes the depth chart at receiver is Antonio Bryant, Michael Clayton, Sammie Stroughter, Maurice Stovall and Brian Clark. in that order. Joe’s just not seeing anybody else being able to bust into that group.

Stroughter, Stovall and Clark are too good on special teams, and they’ve shown enough in the receiving game.
