Signs Point Toward Freeman Signing Soon

July 28th, 2009

Joe knows all too well that contract speculation is quite meaningless until two parties have signed on the dotted line.

However, Jason La Canfora, of NFL.com, is seeing positive signs that bust-in-waiting quarterback Josh Freeman will sign his NFL contract before the start of training camp. And, of course, La Canfora is a quality source, as he works for the NFL and has access to just about everything and everyone.

…talks have been productive and amicable, according to league sources, and the sides feel very good about getting a deal done before the Buccaneers take the field Friday.

And through it all, Freeman has been working out in Tampa, throwing to veteran receivers whenever possible, working out daily. It has not gone unnoticed by Tampa’s brass, and in this case it makes sense for all parties, especially at the QB position — the quicker Freeman gets fully vested in that offense, the better chance he has of playing, and the sooner he plays the more those playing time incentives and escalators kick in.”

Joe really doesn’t care when exactly Freeman signs this summer. Although for the sake of the kid, Joe would surely prefer he’s there on Day 1.

Regardless, it shouldn’t be a distraction for the team even if he comes to camp a week or two late. Joe just can’t wrap his brain around Raheem The Dream calling his name as the opening day starter. Say it ain’t so.
