Strahan Fires Back At Sapp

February 8th, 2013

Warren Sapp started it, and now Michael Strahan seems determined to show off his urine stream in the blossoming pissing match between the two legendary defensive linemen.

Sapp was voted into the 2013 Hall of Fame class Saturday, but Strahan, also in his first year of eligibility like Sapp, didn’t make the cut. Joe documented on Wednesday that Sapp trash talked Strahan a bit during a Tampa radio interview.

“Say if I rewind this to Saturday at 12 o’clock me and you are sitting and I say, ‘It breaks down whatever and whatever and then you have Michael Strahan and me. C’mon, the menace and the media darling,’” Sapp said. “C’mon. Madness, or Good Morning America? I mean, c’mon.”

And now Strahan is firing back directly to Sapp on Twitter.

@MichaelStrahan @WarrenSapp You never cease to amaze me! Enjoy your moment. You don’t need to take a shot at me to justify yourself to other people. #class … … @WarrenSapp I only competed against myself. Don’t let people make you get at me to justify your HOF selection. Enjoy it because u earned it. … …  … You have my # too. I’m a grown man and handle myself like one. Respect me and I respect you! “@WarrenSapp: @michaelstrahan u got my #!”

Joe can’t disagree with Strahan. Sapp did take a needless, irrelevant shot. It’ll be fun to see how No. 99 responds. Perhaps a pay-per-view MMA cage fight is in order. Sapp could use the cash.

  1. Tommy Boy Says:

Joe did you hear the audio? Sapp was saying he was worried he wouldn’t get in because Strahan was the media favorite. No cheap shot.

Strahan has a thick gap and thin skin. <<–cheap shot

  2. admin Says:

    Joe here,

Yes, Joe heard the audio. Sapp was clearly taking shots at Strahan. It was funny, but still shots nonetheless.

  3. Big Rob Says:

I agree with Tommy Boy. It didn’t sound like a shot at him to me. It sounded like he was insecure about how the media would respond to him over Strahan who is obviously a media friendly guy.

  4. Derek Fournier Says:

I forgot these guys were such delicate flowers. Just don’t let Dockett here about anything.

    Everyone should relax.

  5. OAR Says:

How are “media darling” and “Good Morning America” shots? “Menance” and “madness” sound more like shots too me, and those were self-described!
Sapp sounded doubtful too me, and let’s be honest, everyone doubted Sapp would get in the first time because of the “menance” and the “madness” personalities.
Maybe, big bad Strahan doesn’t want to be known as “darling” or is actually not a morning person?
In other news; Monopoly to add cat token and 86 the irons!

  6. loweredexpectations Says:

oh you so-called journalists… between you and mike florio, joe, you two can write a soap opera. at least florio has michael david smith to keep him in check.

i don’t understand how calling somebody out on their up-standing personality and success with an america t.v. loving audience is a slap in the face or as you and florio say… “cheap shot.”

sapp is correct in every way shape and form with his statement. IN FACT i’m quite positive he’s belittling himself. but somehow you media retards make drama out of it with the wrong assessment for the sake of having some other retard like myself comment on it… as the world turns.

    good day.

  7. Tiny tim Says:

Sapp was definitely not taking a shot. He was asked if he had any doubts about being a first ballot during the process and he said yes. Why? Because Strahan was the media darling and had New York backing him while Sapp self-admitted he was a menace.

I think Joe and Strahan need to go back and listen to the audio again. Sapp was being reflective while speaking the truth and in his old age has come to realize maybe some of “his” antics were unwarranted. Kudos for Sapp for continuing to speak his mind and shame on the media and Strahan to try and blow this out of proportion.

  8. astrobuc Says:

I usually disagree with sapp, but I think he was being humble.

I think they need a marriage counselor

Strahan: he is just rubbing it in my face.

Sapp: no baby, I thought you would get in first

  9. thegregwitul Says:

I don’t think Sapp was taking a shot at Strahan, if anything Sapp was taking a little shot at himself. The only way I could see Strahan being upset is if he interpreted the comments as Sapp not having a ‘fair’ chance on making the HOF on the first ballot, because of his treatment of the media, which is neither here nor there because Sapp made it in.

There were a lot of deserving candidates on the ballot this time around, so it was a difficult class to select overall. I think the voters are smartly saving Strahan’s induction for next year so he can showered with some love by the New York crowds.

I plan on making the trip to Canton next year so I can see Derrick Brooks and it’ll be fun to see Strahan inducted as well, he’s always been an entertaining guy.

  10. LUVMYBUCS Says:

C’mon of course he was taking a shot. These 2 dudes have never got along.
Ever since Strahan broke the *single season sack record. Sapp said that “Strahan’s record should have an asterisk by it”. Because he felt, just like everybody else that Farve gifted him that last one.

  11. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Favre

  12. CC Says:

Heard the interview few times. There was definitely no cheap shots taken. Can’t believe Strahan took it that way and is such a sensitive guy. I’m sure he was being told by all the people he works with at Fox that he was a shoe in. Now they have to cancel all their parties.Hey Mike, sounds like jealousy and a little temper tantrum to me. Stay “Classy” my friend.

  13. lightningbuc Says:

When they unveil Sapp’s bust in Canton, it’s going to be a pair of butt cheeks to signify him being an ass!

  14. 4everBucsFan Says:

Strahan took the high-road and shot a foam-stuffed cannonball over Sapp’s bow. ….Nothing to see here ….let’s move on…

  15. PRBucFan Says:

Seems like Strahan got baited into that reaction by the media

  16. Tim Says:

    Joe,

It’s obvious to any sensible person that listens to the audio that Sapp is NOT taking any shots. I consider you to be a sensible person so I’m left to assume you are simply after web traffic. You’re better than that. Please don’t stoop to PFT’s level.

Sorry to disappoint you, Tim. Joe 100% believes Sapp was taking shots. It seems Strahan believes the exact same thing. We is it so hard for some of you to believe Joe actually believes what he posts. –Joe

  17. william Says:

    joebucsfan is trash

“Last week your name was Boobs. Now you’re William. Make up your mind. You keep bashing Joe yet you keep returning. That’s interesting. –Joe

  18. JonBuc Says:

Sapp never liked the fact that Strahan was given the sack record by Farve’s flop. I kinda like the dust- up myself…..

  19. BigMacAttack Says:

I didn’t hear it but reading the comments seem pretty harmless to me. Sapp made the HOF and I’m really happy for him. It was well deserved. Strahan changed Plays, Sapp changed the Game. Big difference in my opinion, and the Voters made the right decision. But I would have put Strahan in before Bill Parcels based on their overall body of work.

  20. Dave Says:

Did not hear it, but knowing Sapp… he was probably being and A$$$$$$$$$

  21. PRBucFan Says:

This kind of gives a clearer picture of the whole thing.

“Sapp was actually showing a humble side in the interview. That context may not have been conveyed to Strahan, who responded Friday morning:”

I thought that was interesting, seeing as to how some are conveying it was quite the opposite.

  22. DallasBuc Says:

Yeah Sapp took a little shot to Strahan. Was more like a friendly poke! While a response by Strahan was not warranted at all it was classy if not a bit whiny. In any case, a response like that sorta illustrates the whole point of Sapp’s comment. It is funny to see but hardly controversial.
BiggieMac said it best, Strahan changed plays, Sapp changed the game. And everyone that matters has acknowledged it.

  23. Joe Says:

    @PRBucFan

THat TBO story you linked to conveniently omitted Sapp’s complete quote. It was said in cocky, Sapp style as a fun poke at Strahan. Any other interpretation is just wrong. Here’s the full quote:

“Say if I rewind this to Saturday at 12 o’clock me and you are sitting and I say, ‘It breaks down whatever and whatever and then you have Michael Strahan and me. C’mon, the menace and the media darling,’” Sapp said. “C’mon. Madness, or Good Morning America? I mean, c’mon.”

  24. MTM Says:

This all goes back to the sack record and Sapp accusing Favre of laying down to help Strahan get the record. It has always pissed off Sapp. Just let it go.

  25. Have A Nice Day Says:

“Say if I rewind this to Saturday at 12 o’clock me and you are sitting and I say, ‘It breaks down whatever and whatever and then you have Michael Strahan and me. C’mon, the menace and the media darling,’” Sapp said. “C’mon. Madness, or Good Morning America? I mean, c’mon.”

This says Sapp thought Strahan was going to get in over Sapp. In no way could any sensible and reasonably intelligent person take this as a “shot”.

  26. Joe Says:

@Have A Nice Day – It was very clear that Sapp was saying if it came down to Sapp and Strahan, that it was a no-brainer that any wise voter would take the tough guy over the guy who sold out to the media. The tone was clear, plus that interpretation completely fits Sapp’s personality.

  27. Have A Nice Day Says:

Joe- We’ve all heard the clip. We’ve all read quote. Only media is trying to make it something it isn’t.

  28. PRBucFan Says:

    @Joe

With all due respect, and I mean that, you are the one that seems to be in the minority here.

    And not just on JBF

  29. Joe Says:

@PRBucFan – Joe’s fine being in the minority, except your comment above said a another story gave a clearer picture, meanwhile that story didn’t even include the entire Sapp quote or provide a link to the Sapp audio for more context.

@HaveANiceDay – That’s your opinion, as was only a “sensible and reasonably intelligent person” would not share your opinion on this story. At least we can agree that Strahan took Sapp’s words as a cheap shot.

  30. PRBucFan Says:

“Say, if I rewind this Saturday 12 o’clock, me and you are sitting and I say, ‘You know, it breaks down whatever and whatever,’ and then you have Michael Strahan and me. Come on, the menace and the media darling. Come on,” Sapp told WDAE (620 AM).

“C’mon. Madness, or Good Morning America? I mean, c’mon.”

Are you referencing that last bit above that was left out?

Cause that really doesnt make much of a difference, at all really IMO.

Referencing himself as “madness” and MS as “Good Morning America” doesnt really paint the best picture about himself. I dont think so at least.

IMO I had a clearer understanding of it all once I read that article aswell.
The more sides to the story you hear, the better one can truly see what’s being presented. That’s all I was meaning Joe, sorry you took it the way you did.

For me, he wasnt trying to drive home any certain perspective he just presented the info. It was less of an opinion thing, but hey thats just my belief.
