Schiano Likes To Say “Run The Football”

March 20th, 2012
“You hit that hole, 27.”

You want to hear Greg Schiano talk about running the football? Would that make your Tuesday?

Well, Joe’s got the audio of Justin “The Commish” Pawlowski’s interview with new Bucs head coach Greg Schiano on WQYK-AM 1010 last week (before Jeff Faine was cut.) You can access the audio below. Schiano comes on at the 8:20 mark following a chat with Derrick Brooks.

Three times during the 4 1/2 minute interview Schiano says with emphasis that the Bucs will “run the football.” Joe’s actually starting to believe the Bucs will pound the rock, not just pretend to be a running team as was done in 2011.

“We’re gonna run the football when want.”

T-Rich & Blount will be music to my ears 🙂

  2. Rob in Orlando Says:

And with the 5th selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Trent Richardson. Go Bucs!

  3. the buc realist Says:

This is the reason that K2 will be gone this year, whether traded or cut. When we watched the Texans ran the ball against the Bucs, We saw the whole team sell out to the run. Everyone was run blocking. No way will this coaching staff stand for someone who will not sell out to run blocking.

  4. Eric Says:

    Tebow Richardson Blount………….deadly.

  5. Dave Says:

    Tebow Richardson Blount………….deadly.

and a recipe in today’s NFL for an early playoff exit

  6. Justin Runkel Says:

Does “Run the football” make it seem maybe we’re leaning on drafting Richardson with our first pick? 2 quality running backs will help our running game for sure.

  7. Dave Says:

They need to get the Miami or Va Tech or Bosie St RB (among others) in round 2-3. There are plenty of good sized RBs in those rounds WITH speed to complement Blount.

Blount with one of those RBs would be great, plus Adu showed some good promise as a scat back type.

Get one of those backs along with Claiborne at CB in round 1 and a LB in round 2-3.

I also agree with many others that K2’s days might be numbered, but if he is healthy he is a great 3rd down TE to bring in.

  8. Dave Says:

The only way I see them drafting Richardson is if they trade down, which I would not be against because they then good get a good CB AND LB in round 2 and still have the round 3 pick… if not more.

  9. bucfanjeff Says:

The hidden message in everything we’ve done, coaches, FA, interviews, etc., screams that they will draft T Rich….at the very least a RB in round 2.
Expect T Rich if he’s there…right or wrong, expect it.

  10. the buc realist Says:

it could also mean that we could get Kalil as well. From actions alone, we can tell that they want a strong offensive line.

  11. Rob in Orlando Says:

I believe the Bucs will take Claiborne if he is available at number 5. If he is gone already, Richardson would be fine with me. Perfect scenario would be to flip flop number ones with a willing trade partner, gain no less than an additional second rounder, and use the first and two second rounders on best linebackers or cornerbacks available. I also think Winslow may have played his last game as a Buc and we could get a second or third rounder for him. Make the trade Dominick, you are on a roll. Go Bucs!

  12. Kryq Says:

I been reading a lot browns are really considering Trent Richardson with the 4th pick.

  13. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Mark Clayton, where are you O Blocking Icon, when Tampa needs you.

  14. Sam Says:

As much as getting Trent Richardson would boost our running game I think Cleveland might take him at #4 and if we do trade down he deffinatly wont be available. I do like the thought of trading down though and maybe getting Luke Kuechly so we can get some LB help which we so desperatly need. And the Panthers just signed Mike Tolbert so they now have 3 quality Rbs im thinking theyll have to release one that’s too much cap space on RBs. I think we should snatch up the one they cut which in my opinion would be Johnathon Stewart who always kills Tampa when we play. Then we can go very hard in the draft on defense which is clearly our biggest need after FA

  15. Tye Says:

That gives me some confidence of a better season coming up….. I hope they get Trent Richardson or at least someone close to his caliber. Put together a strong running threat and cut down on Freeman’s over thrown and dirt diving throws.
The only way Vincent Jackson will be an asset is IF Freeman can ever get the ball to him accurately and on time!

  16. stevek Says:

Best Player Available at the # 5 pick, no BS. Bring in Trent Richardson and the offense is set.

  17. TBSwarm Says:

I don’t think Richardson will be there. The Browns are gonna want to replace Hillis

  18. BucBuckeye Says:

Is “Run the Football” anything like “Pound the Rock”?

Love the attention to the running game and supporting it by picking up a road grader at Guard…and I’m very excited by the methodical coaching hire, the strategic way the ownership/rockstar have played the FA game…and if Cleveland doesn’t snatch him ahead my beloved Bucs, I can even see us drafting Trent Richardson.

But pardon me if I tell you that…Ive HEARD a lot, but I’ll believe it when I SEE it…

and I don’t care what the national media says about the Bucs…they suck-up, donkeys, you start winning and they’ll start braying.

  19. ElioT Says:

We need at least one more RB if not two (depending on if Madu can do the trick or not). F****g hated seeing Tolbert go to the Panthers! Another San Diego running back to trample on our defense!!!!!

I don’t think TRich is a good move at #5… Too little self life for a RB in he NFL, this not a good value. Claiborne is the clear pick at #5, if hes gone the Bucs need to look at trading down if possible an picking up more defensive depth.

There are serviceable RBs to be had in free agency still, and in the later rounds of the draft…

Defense is the key need for this team if we want to build a long-term winning franchise…

  20. BucBuckeye Says:

I can see either scenario play out…Minnesotta is shopping their pick, and who knows what Cleveland will do…so either Morris Claiborne or Trent Richardson works for me.

  21. Oahubuc Says:

Good. I say that a lot when I watch Bucs games lately, except the phrase is peppered liberally with obscenities.

  22. gotbbucs Says:

Or maybe, just maybe, Schiano wants to run the ball with his 250 pound running back that has ridiculous yards after first contact and actually hurdles would be tacklers. I don’t know, makes some sense to me, how about we give the ball to that guy?
