“They Are Prepared To Pull The Plug”

March 11th, 2010

Tampa Tribune beat writer Roy Cummings doesn't put good odds on Michael Clayton being a Buccaneer come September

It doesn’t satisfy Joe to simply serve his many thousands of daily readers with in-your-face commentary, Xs and Os analysis and everything Bucs from across the media.

Joe is in the midst of launching the JoeBucsFan.com Radio Network. It will be glorious entertainment and simply can’t-miss fun for Bucs fans.

Last night, the microphones were dusted off and the studios were opened for business.

In this segment, Roy Cummings, Bucs beat writer for The Tampa Tribune, joined Joe and former Bucs defensive end Steve White.

Among other topics, Cummings detailed how the Bucs are truly approaching the draft differently under the Mark Dominik regime, despite having largely the same cast of scouts who were reponsible for poor drafts in past years.

And the conversation got intense when talk turned to blocking icon Michael Clayton.

Cummings detailed why the Bucs “are prepared to pull the plug” on Clayton before the season. And White explained why the Bucs should consider cutting Clayton now, before he impresses coaches in shorts and during preseason when nothing counts.

“If you can’t tell that that guy is not an NFL receiver at this point, you need new eyes. Not glasses. You need something more than Lasik,” White said.

Enjoy your first taste of the JoeBucsFan.com Radio Network.

    LMAO, good one Steve.

  2. Finerdetailz Says:

Steve White is right on.. If the owners would just come out and explain what their doing.. it would make all the difference in the world.. instead of everyone making up things after every move..

The only question I have is unless your buying into Raheem and Dominik for the long term, how do we know the players being selected will be best for any future coaching/philosophy changes after their gone?

Besides that.. loved the dialogue between Roy, Steve, and Joe.. Great job.

Hey Joe, thanks for adding the Radio Network feature! You’re website is a great resource and I love your approach. I’m on here multiple times per day. Joebucsfan.com is a must for any serious Bucs Fan. Keep up the great work!

Coming from a man of the cloth, Joe is humbled. Thank you.

When you see fit or have a moment, please put in a good word for Joe with the big guy in the sky.

  5. Finerdetailz Says:

I was hoping you would be equally humbled buy just a normal average fan of your website.

  6. Joe Says:

    Finerdetailz:

Thanks for the compliments and kind words. Much appreciated.

Joe has high hopes for the JoeBucsFan Radio Network.

  7. Chippy Says:

Not bad Joe. I was expecting a lot worse especially for the first time. 🙂 At this rate, I’m never going to get any work done. Cummings is crazy if he thinks the Bucs are going to all of a sudden become big players in free agency in 2011. That’ll take a miracle or a soccer team sale.

  8. Joe Says:

    Chippy:

    Thanks for the compliments.

  9. Derek 'OldSchool' Fournier Says:

  11. JDouble Says:

I’ve been a bit underwhelmed lately Joe, but this was an absolutely great audio session. Very good stuff.

  12. Joe Says:

Thanks for the kind words JDouble.

  13. Tj Tillman Says:

My prayers have been answered feel great after hearing this olny thing I do disagree on Clayton Blaming Gruden did not get along with Joey Porter, and Porter had his best years with Gruden add Tim Brown Keyshawn to that list. Clayton needs to take responsbilty for his play period. And sitting out Free Agency I think we have a good team we were hurt last year dont know if we are a playoff team. But sitting out free agency Um Peppers had 2 sacks 2 years ago he is 30 so that would be a gamble, Boldin has had ankle concussions hamstrings, and he was Jealous of Fitzgarld, Marshall is always in trouble on the field and off it

  14. Joe Says:

    Tj Tillman:

Joey Porter never played for Chucky.

  15. d-money Says:

    Joe,

I assume he meant Jerry Porter.

The same Jerry Porter that did not get both feet in bounds on the bogus touchown in the Super Bowl against the Bucs.

  16. Lester Says:

Sounds like Duemig and Cummings are on the Bucs payroll these days. I just have no confidence or belief in any of this plan. Prove it on the field.

  17. Tj Tillman Says:

oops my bad meant Jerry Porter

  18. OAR Says:

d-money, That’s the same play that has one of my favorite Gruden to the refs quotes:
Are you out of your mind? Are you out of your fuck’n skull!

  19. Tj Tillman Says:

D-money yeah him and that was not a catch

  20. Gary Says:

“If you can’t tell that that guy is not an NFL receiver at this point, you need new eyes. Not glasses. You need something more than Lasik,” White said.

    So funny yet so true!

Loving the new radio segment Joe, good work.

    Thanks.

  21. sgw94 Says:

Thanks for all the supportive comments.

  22. Gary Says:

I forgot to add one last thing around Steve’s comment regarding having good PR. He’s absolutely correct. Let me be the first to say when Raheem speaks to the press its always repetitive and never good.

They need to have someone relay team updates/information clearly and honestly to the fan base. We’re already a losing ball club with a coach most of us didn’t want in the first place. Now you’re gonna have that very same coach address the media or have upper management not spend and NOT justify why? Perception is reality and they do nothing to help their cause in public relations area.

  23. NFL Lawyer Says:

Did someone REALLY just say Duemig? His name and the words “reputable source” should NEVER be used together in the same sentence when waxing poetic about anything related to the pigskin.

  24. Joe Says:

    NFL Lawyer:

He was the guy who picked up the phone and got Dominik to confirm those bogus rumors last week that were floated by… cough… cough… were BS.

  25. Joe Says:

    Thanks Gary. Joe appreciates it.

  26. nick Says:

if michael clayton is such a blocking icon and has the upper body, strength and size…knowing they need blocking tight ends i think he could be used in a two tight end set because we just let our best wide reciever go in free agency and it a set that gives your wide receivers more time to develop

  27. bucfanjeff Says:

Put Clayton at Safety…we all know he likes to hit. Maybe they can teach each other a few things. Clayton can teach Sabby how to hit, Sabby can teach Clayton how to catch.

  28. FuNkYxMuNkeY Says:

I have a question. Does anyone know what it would take to get Derrick Johnson from KC. I think he would fit great in our defense. And has been moved to a backup role in the 3-4 in KC so seems like he would come cheap to play in the 4-3 for us!!

  29. Tj Tillman Says:

@ steve Morris talks way too fast to register what his brain is thinking. For example saying the first game basically saying No one should question Clayton

  30. Louie Says:

GET RID OF THE BLOCKING ICON!!! Unless they guy turns into the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice (which isn’t going to happen), he’ll NEVER be accepted here. He’s blown it in Tampa. I’ll take Dexter Jackson over that stiff. I swear, the only possible reason he is still on the team is because he has compromising pictures of the Glazers.

@Joe & Steve: Really enjoyed your program! Woody needs to wake up though. The Bucs have the wool pulled over his eyes.

  31. Joe Says:

Thanks Louie. Joe appreciates the kind words.
