Jameis Watch: Backhanded Theismann Pick

January 26th, 2015

jameis and jimboCrab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

Super Bowl winning quarterback Joe Theismann, never afraid of a strong opinion during his long broadcasting career, was happy to weigh in on the popular quarterback debate last week on the Ron and Ian show on WDAE-AM 620.

Theismann has a preference when it comes to Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, but he wouldn’t draft either one if he were Lovie Smith.

Here’s his full take:

“I don’t think that Marcus Mariota, great guy, congratulations Heisman Trophy winner, I don’t believe he should be the first player in the draft,” Theisman said. “It’s not like the [Bucs] football team is deficient completely like some teams in the quarterback position. I think possibly [trading down] for Bryce Petty might be the best move. Certainly, there are some [teams] that are in need of quarterbacks very badly behind Tampa Bay.

“I just don’t see where picking [Mariota] and choosing him is necessary the right move for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first pick in the draft.

“Jameis, I still think is a little bit of a project. He’s still, you know, still learning to play the quarterback position. He’s played and had a lot of success, and that’s always something I look it — is guys that have had success at the college level understand and learn how to win. And certainly, Jameis this year displayed an incredible resiliency. Played through injury, you know, lost one football game his entire career.

“He knows how to win. I think he’s a young man that’s going to have to grow into the position a little bit. I think he’s much further ahead than E.J. Manuel was when he want to Buffalo. But I’m not sure I would take a quarterback with [the No. 1 overall pick.] If I did, I’d probably take Jameis if I had a choice.”

Bryce Petty, the Baylor QB? Yes, Joe realizes Petty will climb in mock drafts and on some team draft boards, courtesy of overvalued quarterbacks and desperate teams. But Joe would vomit if the Bucs passed on Mariota or Winston in favor of a trade down and a selection of petty.

Don’t mess with fate. The Bucs didn’t lose their last game before the home fans to start the Bryce Petty era.

    Hogwash Theisman hogwash!

  2. Nick Says:

So Theisman concludes instead of taking the best system QB in Mariota, take the 2nd or 3rd best system QB in Petty. And don’t bother with Winston, he’s still learning.

    Wow.

  3. Robert 9 Says:

neither are worth the 1st pick.

  4. armchairGM Says:

Ahh Joe I was just starting to wonder if we would go 1 full day without a Jameis watch article. Death, taxes and at least 1 Jameis Watch article per day.

  5. armchairGM Says:

I do agree with your very last sentence.

Don’t mess with fate. The Bucs didn’t lose their last game before the home fans to start the Bryce Petty era.

  6. Mr. Patrick Says:

Joe knows QB’s! I still say the Bucs won’t pick a QB with the first pick if they keep it. Mariota and Petty will each win more NFL division and conference titles than Winston

    @Mr. Patrick

Based on the information we have today, how do you come to that conclusion. I honestly want to know. It seems there are a few people on this site that have information the rest of us don’t.

  9. Mr. Patrick Says:

Could be the Eagles first trade on their way up to get Mariota

  10. Nick Says:

    @Mr. Patrick

Specifically, your point that the Bucs won’t take a QB first.

  11. HawaiianBuc Says:

I often wonder how much guys like Theisman actually watch college football.

  12. lurker Says:

patrick talks outta his a$$ all the time… and that is speaking for all the buc’s fans

  13. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Nick
Maybe Sir you are correct, or maybe it’s just common sense. Plus, if you look how the Bucs, Lovie and the Glazers operate and their history and track record you can see. Also, try to consider what would be the best overall moves for the Bucs instead of blindly just hoping that they pick your favorite player from your favorite school

  14. DraftJameis Says:

    @Mr. Patrick

I really can’t tell if you’re being serious…Petty AND Mariota will EACH win more division/conference titles than Winston?

Are you Patrick the starfish from Spongebob?

  15. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lurker
That’s because unlike you and a few others I don’t have my head up mine

  16. lurker Says:

again, the bucs didn’t tank the last quarter of the last game to not take a qb. and trading down for petty is not the answer.

  17. Nick Says:

    @Mr. Patrick

There is little to no chance the Bucs are picking Ace Clark from Western Carolina.

Everyone else is too. But, let’s not pretend it’s anything more than a guess.

  19. lurker Says:

with your comment, patrick, you have no head! you say such ridiculous nonsensical things often it is just bewildering. example are your comments above about petty and mariotta. also, your ludicrous comment about speaking for all female buc’s fan…lmao

Bryce Petty is a mess and anybody watching him at the Senior Bowl and practices would agree. Scatter-armed and clearly hasn’t grasped taking snaps from center, among other things. He would be lucky to find himself in round 3.

    —————-

Your football expertise is clearly more related to looking at stats than at actually looking at film. Petty is a mess, Mariota is a project, the odds are stacked against both of them. Try watching some Petty tape, you won’t be impressed. There’s 8 games on draftbreakdown.com and I’ve yet to be impressed with anything in Petty’s game other than his toughness and decent mobility. http://draftbreakdown.com/players/bryce-petty/

  30. Todd Kiper Says:

Hmmmm! If a Winstonn is “still learning to play the quarterback position”, I can’t wait to see him play when he finally figures things out.

  31. Bucs fan 76 Says:

If Marcus and Winston are not worth the 1st point as Joe says why would have any trade partners

  32. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Brandon
I’ve never called for Petty at all. But I think some team will make a very good QB out of him. And yes, I watch film all the time because me and my sons are major Bucs fans and football junkies.
After both careers atr over though, P

  33. Todd Kiper Says:

So if Winston is still learning, when does Mariota start learning? This is ridiculous on so many levels.

  34. Mr. Patrick Says:

After both Careers are over though Petty will have had a better career than Winston who will flame out like Russell and Young

  35. Couch Fan Says:

Patrick is going to be very upset come draft day. Lol, I just hope you muster enough maturity to be able to support the kid once he becomes a Buc April 30th.

    —————–

You’ve obviously never actually watched Petty play. Watch this game tape and tell me based on the tape on whether or not he’s even draftable. He was terrible, should’ve been picked off 10X, no zip, no accuracy, could only complete underneath passes, an overall terrible game.

  37. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Couch
If the Bucs do sacrifice their dignity and integrity and draft Winson, I would LOOOOOVE for him to prove me wrong and I would be the first to admit I was wrong. However, I just don’t see it happening and don’t want to see the Bucs in the same position in 3 or 4 years that they are nowPlus, if they do draft him and things go south, you guys will have a whole lot of crow to eat

  38. Couch Fan Says:

We could be in this same situation in 3 years no matter who we pick. Yes even your boy Williams could be a massive failure. There are no guarantees. Great rewards often require great risks. Winston is worth that risk. So are many others but a franchise QB would be more impactful than a DT or any other position. I know there are some character issues but thats not my job to figure out. On the field the guy can flat out play.

  39. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

“Winston who will flame out like Russell and Young”

Interesting choice in players to compare him to.

  40. crazy Says:

Sounds like what he’s really saying is neither is a true #1 in his opinion so don’t overdraft one of them when you can add more top players by trading down. If L&L agree then he’s right, but they didn’t lose out to trade down, did they?

  41. Waterboy Says:

Joe Theisman one of the most overrated QB’s of all times.

  42. Sean Connery Says:

Alright Trebeck, you dog! I’ll play your game.
    Give me The-rapist for $500!

  43. Barry Says:

Remember, you don’t know anything about evaluating NFL prospects, including myself. We are at best, are Monday morning analysts. This franchise can not gamble and lose on one of these 2 QBs. Logically, acquiring additional picks and players is the smart way to proceed.

  44. Connor Says:

Why couldn’t we have had the #1 pick in 2011? No, we had to have it this year, with this weak, no-franchise quarterback draft class.

  45. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Couch
When you are coming off 2-14, winless at home, winless in the NFL’s worst division and have holes all over your roster you can’t just gamble or roll the dice with the #1 pick that you “earned”. You have to take a pick that is safe, pick the best player in the draft, or trade down and get more picks to build your roster.
The Bucs current QB situation is a direct by-product of the Josh Freeman flame out. I don’t want to see the Bucs in this situation again because of commiting the same mistake

  46. Architek Says:

Why go 2-14 to draft Petty – what a travesty if that happened!

  47. Couch Fan Says:

You never just pick the out right best player in the draft. You pick the best player for your team which could be and probably is entirely different than best overall player. Besides that whos to say the Bucs dont think Winston is the best player? You? Again there is no such thing as a “safe” pick.

Best player for the team> best player overall.

  48. Posey99 Says:

If someone wants to trade us for the #1 overall pick, we need to take it. It would cost them somewhere around 3 first rounders. And if said team has a rookie quarterback playing the next two seasons, our aquired picks will be high firsts rounders. Could you guys imagine having a first rounder this year and two first rounders the next two years? Imagine the quality of players we can stock our team with. We could take a guy like Brandon Scherff this year and I would be happy.

  49. White Tiger Says:

The note about Bryce Petty is one I mentioned in an early thread…and one I hope the Bucs DON’T make…but Theismann’s assessment is probably what a few teams are looking at…because of the pure spread background of Mariota and the troubling lack of maturity from a projected number one overall…

Bryce Petty carries the exact same problems as Mariota, but he ran an ‘Air Raid’ version of the spread…which means Petty’s NOT any more NFL ready than Mariota, in terms of reading defenses, etc. and who knows what his maturity level is…I think though, if your college head coach & OC don’t have a lot of maturity, it’s probably a good bet that maturity doesn’t rank real high on their list of requirements…

Unfortunately, I think noting what Theismann said today, and Brad Johnson’s dose of reality about how much of an adjustment Famous Jameis will have…we can probably guess that Lovie feels pressure to take a QB, but he’s underwhelmed at his options. If you’re talking about taking one of these two QB’s IN the first round – that’s one thing. If you’re talking about taking one of these with THE FIRST OVERALL pick…that’s something else altogether, It’s pretty much assumed that ANY player taken 1st overall should pretty much be ready to play…neither of them are. The thing they have to be considering is: which has the better upside? Has either of these maxed-out…or at least, how MUCH upside does each candidate have? The combine will give them a couple more data points – but that’s it.

In the end – it may not be that hard of a decision – the offensive coordinator and line coach have a whole other set of priorities. Do they think they currently have the basis for an offensive line that’ll support Dirk Koetter’s offense (which sounds to me – a LOT like the one Jameis Winston ran at FSU – albeit against defenses NO WHERE NEAR the talent and schemes he will face in the NFL)? Due to the fact that we didn’t really have an OC last year, it’s kinda hard to use last years tapes to evaluate any of the current talent – you almost have to throw that away.

As a Marcus Mariota fan – I’m afraid the picks already in – and it’s Jameis.

  50. cmurda Says:

It’s hard to discredit a former NFL QB especially one with the pedigree of Joe Theismann, however Theismann did all the discrediting in his analysis. Is he just throwing crap against the wall or did he actually watch tape of the 2 QB’s?

  51. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Connor
    I know, right? Bad timing

  52. Tampabaybucfan Says:

While I don’t agree…..article & many posters are somewhat missing the point….If we take Petty…we would be trading down (maybe twice) and picking up several quality players this year and maybe next…..so, it’s not just picking Petty.

I want us to stay the course an select one of these two…..and, I suspect the choice will not be made without considerable research thought & input…so I’ll be OK with it.

This is starting to look like the Republican Presidential Debates where the candidates get beat up so bad….nobody wants the winner!!! I hope we can openly accept our #1 pick.

  53. Bucfan4life Says:

Lol, love and warrick Patrick makes perfect sense. Jameis is black so therefore he will flame out like other black QBs that have failed in the past. LMAO! Some guys are just blatant racists and probably don’t even know it.

  54. jfat Says:

If we don’t take mariota or Winston we’d be better off playing Glennon. I don’t see any scenario where we would draft Petty, unless he slips to the late rounds.

  55. JoshFreeman Says:

    #dontmesswithfate

  56. Nybucsfan Says:

There are a few Winston fans that are persistent I’ll give you guys that. But he is still a scumbag. PR nightmare. Ask some women what they think of him. On top of that he steals and degrades woman in public. will not be good when hunting ground comes out have fun hitch a wagon to that class act

  57. Luther Says:

Drafting Bryce Petty when you have the choice to pick between Mariota or Winston is just plain stupid. Maybe he lost his brain in that leg break with LT. Petty sucks bad, if we were unhappy with Freeman, imagine how upset we would be with Petty.

  58. Mr. Patrick Says:

Mike Glennon is the future QB of the Tampa Bay Bucs because Lovie said so

  59. Couch Fan Says:

Lovie has said many things that arent true. His actions thus far arent in support of Glennon being QB of the future.

  60. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @Bucfan4lyfe
Oh yes, I’m a real racist alright, especially since I beat the drum all off season last year for Teddy Bridgewater. The last time I looked he and Leonard Williams are not Caucasion, lol

  61. tickrdr Says:

Am I the only one who cares that Jameis Winston has played only two years of college ball, and in his sophomore year threw for 18 INTs?

    tickrdr

  62. Pickgrin Says:

Jameis Winston is one of the best QB prospects to come out in the last 10 years.
If you don’t see that – then you don’t know what to look for.

This choice for #1 pick is easy. Take Jameis and don’t look back.

Get 2 good OLIne prospects and a DE or MLB in rounds 2>4 and this team will be VASTLY improved.

Winston will start from day 1 and will look pretty damn good doing it.

  63. Soggy Says:

And there is our daily played race card “because he is black” I got to stick to joe’s stories and stay away from these comment sections.. They bring me down all the time.. I am out…

  64. PFish91 Says:

No we lost the last home game before the fans for the 3000 value points of the #1 pick!!!!

  65. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ tickrdr
Exactly. Not ready to be the Savior

  66. tickrdr Says:

Maybe it’s time for a re-post from my research about the 51 QBs taken in the first round of the NFL draft over the last 20 years. (Now up to 54, I believe)

    tickrdr

  67. Bucnut2 Says:

FINALLY a voice of reason. JT is correct, neither of these guys is worth the number 1 overall pick. I’m not a member of the MG8 mob, but I favor trading down, building the roster and playing MG8 for the next couple of years. Glennon has never had a good OC and many including Koetter believe he is a poor man’s Matt Ryan. That would be a great the plan. Trade the pick and have Koetter tutor Glennon for a couple of years! I’m on board. finally something that makes sense instead of reaching for one of these two misfits!

  68. lurker Says:

and the “research” wouldn’t mean squat…sorta like patrick’s useless comments

  69. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Bucnut2
    Agree 100% Winnin’ With Glennon!!!

  70. Mr. Patrick Says:

If the Bucs run an offense that resembles whet Koetter ran in Atlanta then Glennon is a perfect fit

  71. Cascade Says:

They lost their last game to control the draft. If neither Winston or Mariota justify the first overall pick, the ONLY intelligent thing to do is trade down and stockpile. I’m not suggesting I know the answer to whether Winston or Mariota is worth it – that’s the job of the front office.

  72. lurker Says:

why throw the #1 pick away by nit choosing winston/mariotta? trading down does nothing to help the biggest hole…qb! we know what we have in glennon. you take winston and move on. we don’t know what we have in the offensive line because we didn’t have a real o.c. last year. you can say that for every position.

we did not tank to trade down. it would have to be a crazy deal a la herschel walker or ricky williams, and even then…

  73. lurker Says:

    nit=not

  74. Bucnut2 Says:

Here is my prediction. Right now the Bucs are leaking through various sources i.e. Charlie Campbell that they like Winston. In the coming weeks there will be rumors they favor Mariotta. The rumors will drive up the value of the 1st pick as no one will know that they don’t intend to draft either. Three first rounders later we will have built a Seattle type team with MG 8 playing QB. Wow genius, I did not think lovie had it in him.

  75. lurker Says:

    uselessness by certain posters…

glennon offers nothing. so let’s pass on winston for a useless 3rd qb taken in the 3rd round of the worst draft for qb in decades…ok. there is no way you see film on glennon and think he is better than winston…smh

  76. Cascade Says:

    lurker Says:
    January 26th, 2015 at 9:38 pm

why throw the #1 pick away by nit choosing winston/mariotta?

If, after full researching both QBs, they decide they don’t believe in either of them as players worthy of the first pick, then they should trade out of the spot and bolster the team with more picks. Again, I’m not suggesting that this will be the case – I think they will end up deciding on one or the other – but hypothetically, that’s why any team in their position would consider a trade down.

  77. Bucnut2 Says:

Lurker, respect you man, but you dont “move on ” with Winston. His past and character stay with him. I like his talent, however he is way to risky with #1 overall.. see Johnny football. Smart thing to do, fleece a desperate team like Jimmy Johnson did. MG8 would start for about a third of the teams in the NFL.

  78. tickrdr Says:

Did any of the Jameis Winston fans (other than Joe) want the Bucs to draft a QB last year? Did most want Johnny Football?

    tickrdr

  79. Luther Says:

I wanted Carr or Garoppolo last year. The only QB I like this year is Winston.

  80. Couch Fan Says:

I did not want the Bucs to draft a QB last year. I still like Glennon but it doesnt appear Lovie does.

  81. lurker Says:

winston is not manziel! the bucs do their own research and investigating. every position has been a bust with the #1 pick! how did last year’s #1 help his team?

i wanted a qb last year. i liked manziel…doesn’t mean anything. i liked bridgewater, too. i liked carr the best.

if someone overpays for #1, of course the bucs will seriously consider trading down. but they did not tank to not make the pick. #2 would have been more favorable for a trade, not as expensive for other teams.

  82. tickrdr Says:

Thanks for answering. I agree that Lovie doesn’t want Glennon too, and I hope he gets traded for a chance to play elsewhere.

    tickrdr

  83. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Bucnut2
Exactly. If the Bucs were thinking about taking Winston, they wouldn’t be “leaking” it to Charlie Campbell.
And speaking of Campbell, he wrote recently that one of his scouting directors told him that Winstons off-field antics “are very real and much more than advertised”

  84. CABucsFan Says:

Winston will likely be taking a tumble as “The Hunting Ground” gathers some more steam from Sundance to CNN. I know that the Joes like to point out over and over again that Winston has never been formally charged with anything, but it’s hard to say that nothing wrong happened in this situation. At best there was a HUGE conflict of interest surrounding the matter; at worst Winston got away with it and there was a conspiracy in cover up.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/01/24/jameis-winston-s-rape-accuser-tells-all-in-sundance-documentary-the-hunting-ground.html

  85. tickrdr Says:

    @lurker

How can #2 be a more favorable position for a trade down? You might get the #2 team to cough up a pick or two just to move up one pick. Or you can always accept whatever another team is offering for the very first pick, and it may be a “king’s ransom” like ST. louis got for RG III. Having the first pick is absolutely the best place to be, regardless of what they decide.

    tickrdr

  86. lurker Says:

i figured the value to trade up for the #2 is cheaper than to move to #1 for a team. also, lovie wouldmn’t have the stigma of tanking, though i and many others wanted a loss…lol

  87. Bucnut2 Says:

Guys, not trying to offend, but in the end, they CANNOT draft Winston, there is just too much risk in the post Ray Rice NFL. one incident involving a female and this whole issue will surface, people will be playing the violence against women card and he is done! Way too much risk!

  88. DB55 Says:

I liked the idea of Petty until I seen him play this weekend. No ty, the kid is not very accurate he looked like mccown out there.

I love the fact that my 7th overall pick last year, Aaron Donald made the probowl with 9 sacks in his rookie year. Out performing some of the best 3techs in the league. Haha I said all along we ahould have drafted him.

Not sure why mccoy didn’t play in the PB. It’s the perfect game to pick opponents off the ground and grab their ass and ask for recipes. He loves that!

  89. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s 9:26 PM…..Do you know where your future francise QB is?

  90. Bucnut2 Says:

no I dont know where glennon is

  91. Bucnut2 Says:

DB 55 great post! I love the recipes part!

  92. ufcguy Says:

You know this girl is trying everything she can to ruin winston. What she doesn’t see is the big lawsuit coming back at her for the lies and defamation of character. Right now I think they are waiting but this girl us going to be exposed for the whore she is. It’s all about money and every one who has really followed this knows she is going to get all of her options tossed right back to her. He’s been cleared 3 times. It’s over and I believe fsu is going to come at her as well. They have better lawyers and a lot more investigation power than her broke ass. I hope she gets exposed and tossed our like she deserves to be.

  93. jfat Says:

“we know what we have in glennon. you take winston and move on. we don’t know what we have in the offensive line because we didn’t have a real o.c. last year. you can say that for every position”

K, so we don’t know what we have on offense because the OC sucked…but, we do know what we have in Glennon even though he hasn’t worked with a good OC yet?

I’m all for taking a QB at one, but saying with certainty that Glennon can’t be a solid NFL QB is a bit unfair. He hasn’t been put in a position to succeed.

  94. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ufcguy
You are sooooo far off. The federal suit that she has filed against FSU is major and they are now totally on the defensive. According to all of the legal talking heads on the major news networks she will probably win it and there will be firings at FSU. You can find it online and read it as it’s only 35 pages. In this documentary which will be seen by millions of people, she is laying the groundwork for her civil suit that she will file against Winston after he signs his pro deal and to avoid all of the horrible press and PR he will settle out of court to save his NFL career. And then she will more than likely file a civil suit against the TPD which will probably also be settled out of court so the details of the botched investigation will remain hidden.

  95. Eric Says:

They have zero chance of winning the current law suit.

    Zero.

If any talking heads said otherwise they are incompetent boobs.

  96. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Ha ha ha ha Patrick….man your so far from reality these days.

Your getting worse my friend…it’s becoming an obsession for you.

Good luck with all that “settle out of court” nonsense.

  98. Mr. Patrick Says:

Actually all of that info came from Court TV and C-Span, not me. I feel very confident that they know a whole lot more than you FSU homers and wahoos

  99. Eric Says:

Who are the talking heads on the major news networks who say she will probably win the Title IX case?

I’m thinking you dreamed that one up Patrick.

They couldn’t even prove a student conduct case after the Feds changed the rules to give the complainants a better chance of winning.

And the Univerity brought in a neutral Supreme Court Justice to hear the case!

  100. lurker Says:

yep, cause nancy grace is never wrong and one-sided…lmfao

patrick, do yourself, and everyone else for that matter, a favor and keep your thoughts to yourself. do not prove us right by you typing/talking.

Court TV and C- span are major news networks?

  102. LUVMYBUCS Says:

  103. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

The Bucs will draft Winston, because if he goes to another team and shines there is going to be hell to pay if we are stuck with Mike Glennon.

Of course Pat sees it differently. He thinks people WON’T buy tickets because of Jameis. “Face of the Franchise” crap.

Totally ass-backwards thinking I know, but he’s obsessed now. You have to take that into consideration.

It’s not just going to be FSU homers buying tickets. I predict a major jump in ticket sales next season….perhaps even before the season starts.

Jameis Winston WILL be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer come May.

  104. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Nancy Grace….ha ha ha ha I almost pissed myself.

  105. Mr. Patrick Says:

Actually they all compared it to the case at the University of Missouri case where the football player kidnapped a female student for a weekend and the Athletic department and the local police covered it up and hid it. She filed a Title 9 suit and won. The school paid her a lot of money and people at the university and the PD were fired. You guys may want to look that up before making any more uneducated comments

  106. Eric Says:

Neither c-span or court tv have said boo about the Title IX suit or opined the plaintiff was going to win it. Or that people at FSU would be fired.

You shouldn’t let your Winston hatred cause you to lie Patrick, it’s unbecoming.

  107. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lutker
Is Nancy Grace your secret crush after Jameis or does your gate only swing one way?

  108. Nybucsfan Says:

Eric your a lawyer and you use words like boobs? ESPN lawyer said Looks like FSU did hide things to keep there star QB on the field and did you say FSU hired the retired supreme court justice? Hmm weird no punishment was handed out and jameis could play in the playoffs

  109. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Just guessing but imagine it going something like this.

Winston’s lawyer : “The accuser in the case has already made a documentary about this case and is profiting off this case by making a documentary. It’s quite clear for all to see that she is only out to make money off of my client. I suggest that the court dismisses this case on those facts alone.”

    Mr. Patrick Says:
    January 26th, 2015 at 9:31 pm

“If the Bucs run an offense that resembles whet Koetter ran in Atlanta then Glennon is a perfect fit.”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha HA and Winston’s not. So essentially Patrick’s saying Glennon is better than Jameis.

Are you serious? Do actually believe this crap or do you type it to make us all laugh?

  110. Luther Says:

Money grubbing witch. When you ask for hush money, you kill all believability with me. I read the report and they were right to dismiss it.

  111. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Eric
Have you actually read the case and suit and educated yourself to the actual facts and content or are you just relying on your FSU loyalty?

  112. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @87
Considering that he has 2 years on NFL experience, yes right now Glennon is better than Jameis. Absolutely

  113. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @87
Keep fooling yourself Brother. The Title 9 suit is suppose to last around 18 months so that’s 18 months of bad publicity and PR for the team that is desperate enough to draft him

  114. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Ha ha ha ha ha….good night everyone have fun. 🙂

  115. Nybucsfan Says:

You Jameis lovers AKA the hunter why would she call and report rape that night? she had nothing to gain he had never even played?. If she was willing to have sex and the regrets it after why bring attention to something your embarrassed about. I repeat he was a nobody nothing to gain why report it if it didn’t happen. I can’t wait to hear what bull you jamies “the hunter” Winston lovers come up with now

  116. cmurda Says:

So what you’re all saying is the Bucs should draft Winston. Good deal. I agree.

  117. Eric Says:

    Words like boobs?

Nybucsfan I said boo not boobs. You people are certifiable.

Yeah I’ve read the lawsuit Patrick, and the police investigation, and the findings of the Supreme Court Justice.

    As I said zero chance.

  118. Nybucsfan Says:

Luther it was 2012 when she reported it. How much money did Jameis have then? How many passes had he thrown? So she was a money grab witch? Hmm the movie the hunting ground is for people that run there mouth about these girls with out using there brain

  119. Nybucsfan Says:

RETIRED SUPREME COURT JUSTICE THAT FSU HIRED. Facts Eric.

  120. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Eric
It’s okay because one thing that we can all agree on is we all like boobs

  121. Rex Says:

To anyone that actually think petty and Mariota are better choices than Jameis should know that neither petty or Mariota know how to or has learned how to read defenses in games because of the systems they are in. So before you go off and say that they can win more titles than Winston, think of the wasted year they will have learning this s***. Let’s make the obvious choice to get the guy who will actually start week 1 which is Jameis. And I don’t wanna hear anymore crap about the rape allegations or crab legs because those are just desperate and irrelevant attempts to bag on Jameis because he is the best player in the draft.

  122. Eric Says:

FSU didn’t hire him, he was one of three justices the parties could choose from.

They took the extra step to ensure the fact finder was totally independent.

Anyhow you guys have a good night.

  123. lurker Says:

wow, patrick. what ever are you implying?

you seem to have many phobias in your little circle.

  124. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Nybucsfan
Friend you are wasting your fingers trying to talk common sense on here to these FSU homers. They are not loyal to the Bucs, they are loyal to their school and should be on JOENOLESFAN instead. They really seem to not care about the Bucs, only their boy Winston. I mean why else would they want their “favorite” pro team to base their fiture on somebody that could end up causing the Bucs a lot of future headaches and embarrassment. They really don’t care if he’s guilty or not and turn a deaf ear to actual facts as long as he comes here. I bet if Winston was a Gator we would never hear a peep out of any of these people

  125. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lurker
It’s alright, I’m not judgemental, just be yourself

  126. Nybucsfan Says:

Yea it was the schools code hearing and he was a retired Florida supreme court justice. RETIRED. Can anyone tell me what she had to gain in 2012 when she reported it be for jameis ever took a snap?

  127. cmurda Says:

Let’s not assume that everyone that wants Winston is an FSU homer. I’m a homer of FSU spelled backwards. I want the guy that could help this team win games right away and that’s Winston.

  128. Mr. Patrick Says:

Guys it’s been fun but time to turn in. We will continue this debate tomorrow. Have a great night guys

  129. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lurker

Did any of the Jameis Winston fans (other than Joe) want the Bucs to draft a QB last year? Did most want Johnny Football?

tickrdr – I did not believe there was a “franchise QB” in last year’s draft and thought Joe was so idiotic with his JF man crush all the way up to draft day. Especially wanting him to take Manziel with the 7th overall pick – that would have been a (failed) reach of epic proportions. I saw Bortles as a mid to late 1st round prospect and Carr and Bridgewater as 2nd round talent. Saw Manziel and Garrapolo as late 2nd or early 3rd round talents We might well have taken Carr in the 2nd round if he had lasted 2 more picks and that might not have been a bad pick for us – but in retrospect- I’m glad it worked out the way it did.

Winston and Mariota are both MUCH better prospects IMO than any QB we’ve seen come out since 2012 and both are worthy of serious top 10 consideration. Winston in particular stands out to me and I see him as the best QB prospect since Luck and one of the top 5 QB prospects in the last 10 years.

Yes Winston only has 2 years of College experience – but what a 2 years it was. Winston has every intangible that NFL scouts covet at QB and then some. He was born to be an NFL star QB and has worked very hard to improve his game to the point you see now. I have 0 concerns about his talent, football IQ or his work ethic and believe he will be a top 10 NFL QB in a fairly short time frame.

And I don’t put much stock in the so called “character concerns” having researched Winston and the “situations” surrounding them extensively. All but the rape accusation are minor – and there are sooooo many inconsistencies in the accusers story that you can’t take her accusation seriously. The majority of the facts that were able to be established in the case back up Winston’s version of what happened. Which is exactly why he was never arrested nor charged – and is exactly why his school took no action against him either when ALL the known facts were once again closely examined.

People can say the fix was in from FSU, the TPD and the prosecutors office as to why Winston was not investigated properly or charged – but that is one hell of a stretch considering Winston was a nobody when this occurred – and still doesn’t explain the fact that the accuser has been very inconsistent with her stories of what happened and why she didn’t seem to care what was happening with the “investigation” until after Winston became the starting QB for FSU.

    – she told her friend that she wanted to go with Winston – her friend questioned it and she again said – yes – she wanted to go

    – she willingly got into the cab to go back to his place

    – toxicology tests showed that other than having consumed some alcohol (not unreasonable amount) – there were no other drugs in her system – but her testimony tried to make it sound like she felt she was drugged after Winston handed her a drink – which just wasn’t the case.

    – after having sex – Winston gave her a ride home on his scooter. So think about that last item for a second. What woman would ever ask for or accept a ride home from someone who just raped her and even have to wrap her arms around him for the ride home???

  131. lurker Says:

I still have doubts that Jameis Winston will be successful in the NFL. Only two years experience, and threw 18 INTs against college-level competition in his sophomore year. IMHO, it will only get worse at the NFL level. We shall see, as I suspect that Winston will be the choice of this coach/GM. I still hope that someone is fool enough to offer a “king’s ransom” for that 1st pick. That is how you get some prime beef to fill the oh so many holes on this team.

Can anyone tell me what she had to gain in 2012 when she reported it be for jameis ever took a snap?”

She was cheating on her boyfriend (the guy who owned the other set of DNA on her shorts) and didn’t want that video footage going around. So she told her friend that she was raped.

She never called or asked for police to be called. Her friend called police and parents. I think it just got away from her there. So, that was Dec. 2012. There was back and forth police contact until Feb./March 2013. But, they stopped cooperating. So, the case was stopped. No calls from Aunt Pat in April, May, June, July, August, September, or October……

Then, November 2013. Within a day of Winston becoming the Heisman favorite ($$$$$) after Mariota hurts knee (Nov. 2) , they start the leaks to the media, etc.

    Tell me that doesn’t wreak….

  135. Robert 9 Says:

the video would have shown if it was rape or not…..but hey, it conveniently disapeared.

he’ll never see jail for this, but karma is a bit*h. He’ll be there for something else and know rape fist hand. lol

  136. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

“the video would have shown if it was rape or not…..but hey, it conveniently disapeared.”

I wish Casher had not deleted it. But, just filming the consensual encounter was a violation. Hence, deletion.

“it’s not like he’s a chick magnet. more like a predator.”

Yes, her own friend testified that Erica asked her if it was ok to leave with them from Potbellies. That’s in the testimony. Look it up. I’m sure she left because she wasn’t attracted to him.

  139. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If a team is willing to trade 3 1sts and 3 2nds to trade up for Winston, I woul take that in a heartbeat…because their next years first would likelybe the number one pick. We would get a better QB that way, and could address oline with a first and 2 seconds this year.

Much as I want Mariota, I would take that deaal in a heartbeat.

  140. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

87, tell me. Did you watch every OREGON game as well? Pot calling kettle, bud.

I’ve actually downloaded every game of both I could get my hands on. I’m more than halfway through them.

The overwhelming impression I have at this point is the Mariota will be better. I would gladly go into a complete list of comparisons if I thought you were not biased, and off field issues have nothing to do with my opinion. I went into my evaluation without a preference, and I REALLY looked closely at everything I could, over and over.

  141. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Surely if another team wants to trade that much for Winston, that must mean he sucks…

I find it odd that a few Buc fans don’t want Winston while there’s probably millions of fans from other teams that would drool at this chance to get him.

Oh well to each his own I guess. We’ll just keep repeating the same stuff for the next 3 months until we hear his name called off and he lands in Tampa.

Twist and kvetch the next 3 months, but you’re going to have to come to grips with it sooner or later.

For those that went to Florida public schools : Kvetch : to complain habitually.

Examples of kvetch : a chronically resentful person who seems to look for things to kvetch about.

Who’s that chronically resentful person on JBF when it comes to Winston?

    Any guesses?

    —————————————————————————-

Something tells me you didn’t watch many FSU games the last 2 years Dr. I would hazard a guess that applies to a lot of people saying that Winston is not talented enough or that “there’s no franchise QBs in this draft.”

Other than Rashad Greene, Winston was working with mostly Freshmen at skill positions this last year and those other receivers made a lot of mistakes. Jimbo Fisher is on record as saying that only 8 of Winston’s interceptions were on the QB – the rest were oftentimes the result of bad routes run by receivers and/or catchable passes that were either mishandled or tipped by the receivers into defenders hands. The other issue was that the FSU OLine was not nearly as solid as it was in 2013 and Winston took a lot of heat and a bunch of hits in 2014. In fact – pressure up the middle (the worst kind) became so common and such a problem that coach Fisher ultimately wound up moving stud LT Cam Erving from his tackle spot over to Center where he played really well and that did help subside the up the middle pressure the last few games of the year – but the FSU Oline as a whole did not play well in 2014 and Winston’s TDs declined and his interceptions rose as a result with less time and pressure in his face.

Like I said – the main thing for me with Winston if you watched him play more than a couple/few games was the eyeball test. The kid was a flat out stud at QB in College and you can see all his intangibles and how well they will translate to the NFL really jump out at you – play after play and game after game.

I see a QB who after only 2 years of College as a starting QB – is more ready to take those talents to the NFL and more likely to have success in the pros than any other player since Andrew Luck. And Winston’s overall QB grades by NFL draft experts are not that far off Luck’s grades coming out either.
The Kid has the “IT” factor in spades and his leadership abilities as a QB and penchant for winning when games were on the line and plays had to made was incredibly impressive. You can’t teach that ability to make plays consistently when the game is on the line. You can’t teach the “IT” factor. Winston was 7-0 when the deciding score was within 1 TD and he brought his team from behind for the win 5 times last year. How many of the Bucs losses were by a TD or less last year? 8 times I believe.

Winston’s abilities and excellent leadership will make a world of difference for the Bucs – especially compared to the QB “talent” currently on Tampa Bay’s roster.

I’ll say it again. We didn’t tank the end of the season to pick a Defensive player or OLine player 1st overall – and unless it is for a literal King’s ransom – we didn’t tank to trade down. The Bucs intentionally passed on QBs last year because none were worthy of that #7 pick – but they will get their franchise QB prospect this year and have 2 good ones to choose from. I just hope they make the best choice which IMO is Jameis Winston.

  147. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Every single day I wake up I go to google and type the words Jameis Winston Buccaneers.

It seems I can find something new every day that links the Bucs to drafting Winston. You people should try it sometime. It might help you cope with the inevitable. You know..get an outsiders prospective.

Just this morning I found yet ANOTHER new mock draft linking the Bucs to Winston. These guys that make these mock drafts are rarely correct on them, but most of them usually get the 1st pick right.

You people are going to have to come to grips with it in the next 3 months.

  148. bucs4lyfe Says:

OK so picking mariotta isn’t the best pick for the bucs and you have no clue why. Winston knows how to win and had success but he’s a bit of a project…..98% of players coming out of college are a project and have to learn how to play at the pro level. All that talking and he’ll never know he didn’t really say anything. But guess I’m the sucker for reading what he had to say. You’d think with all his knowledge of the game he’d actually know something…. Damn talk about living off reputation

  149. Robert 9 Says:

no we won’t 87…….while I respect your opinion, I respect my gut much more.

even if they o draft him, I’ll just watch the dolphins for free until he eventually flames out and goes all OJ or Jamarcus Russell at which point I may come back if I have not gotten to know the dolphins to the point of no return. I suspect others feel the same….but hey teams win and lose fans everyday and I’m sure I won’t be missed.

PR is dead wrong on their mocks every year, just go back and look. The Glazers don’t want to get burned again like they did with Josh Freeman and will not waste this pick on another QB that is a total risk with major acknowledged character issues

Yep, every player that I would love to see the Bucs end up with is Black, so yes I guess I’m a racist. lol”

“Petty will have had a better career than Winston who will flame out like Russell and Young”

Of all the busts on the planet, how did you pick these two? You could have said Vinnie Testaverde and Ryan Leaf.

Vince Young???? He was an option runner who occasionally passed. How on earth is Vince Young comparable to Winston? Nothing similar in style on the field at Texas, nor was he in trouble off the field at Texas.

You just randomly chose Vince Young of all busts….

    Right…..

  172. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Mr. Patrick…like I said earlier. The first pick in the draft in mock draft’s are very rarely wrong. Especially when most mock drafts are saying the Bucs are taking Winston and all of them give VERY good reasons why.

I’m afraid your just going to have to come to grips with it or follow Robert to Miami.

remember when the girl said she had never seen her rapist before and then weeks after recognized him in class?

This is from her roommate…. “The only thing he is guilty of is sleeping with a crazy a** cleat chaser who got mad, because he wouldn’t leave his girlfriend for her. They hooked up that night (as they had other nights) only this time, Jameis Winston’s girlfriend was coming into town. So he couldn’t stay. Things got heated, and she started basically beating the crap out of him. So naturally, he tried tried to restrain her.” – See more at: http://fabwags.com/erica-kinsman-jameis-winstons-alleged-abuse-accuser-photos#sthash.z9d8JXfZ.dpuf

Some of you should just copy paste your comments from yesterday and the week before.

I believe her over him. He has yet to prove he knows right and wrong. thats clear to everyone even JOE thinks a 21 year old man will need a babysitter class act

  178. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @87

I don’t blame you. Just make sure to come back for the draft night fireworks. IT. WILL. BE. EPIC.

    I believe her over him.”

You made up your mind a long, long time ago. No amount of evidence would ever change it. No the tox screens, not the boyfriend refusing to cooperate, not her friends testimony, and on and on. Nothing.

  180. Nybucsfan Says:

No I think she had nothing to gain in 2012. I can find things evidence that said he did do it and FSU covered it up I guess it’s all in who you wanna believe. I don’t believe people like jameis who are guilty of many things.Panhandle it says that’s from his roommate and girlfriend I believe that’s what it said.

  181. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

What evidence that he did it?

It basically her word. Nothing else exists. But, there’s a lot of evidence that refutes her multiple versions.

She was at a party and someone hit her in the head. – refuted

    She was drugged. – refuted

She felt coerced to leave Potbellies. – refuted (by her own friend)

You believe what you want to believe.

Well wouldn’t that have been racist for him to say that? If we follow your rules we should choose one black and one white, correct?… Sounds more like a sensitivity issue.

At least they are drop back passers.

Feel free to chime in on, of all busts, in the history of busts, Vince Young comes to mind.

There’s no connection between the two. Except…

  184. Posey99 Says:

Still not seeing the racism here… You are saying because he compared Jameis Winston to another black man that’s racist? I didn’t see anything were he said anything that implied color of skin or ethnicity.

  185. Nybucsfan Says:

@ love, sperm and not wanting to have sex=rape I’m prettys sure. After that is all he said she said. When it happened he was a nobody so if you wanna believe it was so her boyfriend didn’t get mad than you can believe that. But the way he yelled and what he yelled in front of women leads me to believe he could do it. he clearly doesn’t know how to act/treat women. And we all know he has poor judgment. Wait till people see the hunting ground not going to be good for him

  186. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

“You are saying because he compared Jameis Winston to another black man that’s racist”

I’m just wondering, of all the QB busts in the history of busts, he would say,

“Petty will have had a better career than Winston who will flame out like Russell and Young”

Like Russell and Young? Are those the only two busts in history?

What made his mind go to those two? Especially Vince Young. Like I said, Vince Young has zero comparable to Winston.

You tell me Posey, how is Vince Young in any way, comparable to Winston?

Not Blaine Gabbert, not JP Losman, not Brady Quinn, all of which are closer as a QB, but Vince Young?

I never said anyone was a racist. I just think his choice is very telling. Maybe you do not. That’s fine too.

You are clearly all class. Your sad attempt at calling me names tells me a great deal about you ability to read, comprehend and state a logical response.

I could stoop to your level, but, that’s what knuckle draggers.

But, when Winston is the new QB of the Bucs, I will be thinking of my classy, intelligent, deep thinking friend, Nybucsfan. I will, in fact, make a toast to you, for our new starter, Jameis Winston.

Draft day will be here soon. Until then, keep up your class act!!

  189. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I would bet a good deal of money that the same people bashing Winston, would have let this guy rot in jail.

Winston is a loser and a punk I don’t care how many games the noles won with him. and u can take take that to the bank. cant wait till the draft and see how many on here start crying because the bucs didn’t take him.

  191. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I will be here. Bring your tissues. Winston #1 to Tampa.

“Surely if another team wants to trade that much for Winston, that must mean he sucks…

I find it odd that a few Buc fans don’t want Winston while there’s probably millions of fans from other teams that would drool at this chance to get him.”

It’s not really that odd when you consider how few teams have elite QBs. Most of the teams fail to determine the best QB.

As far as the fans? Well, you like Winston, so that pretty much sums it up. There’s blind fans in every town.

  193. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

“There’s blind fans in every town.'”‘

I forgot what professional team that you scouted for, please remind me?

  194. mikeh Says:

pick that idiot Winston or not he is not and will not be a elite QB in the nfl I see another head case like freemon . imo and you people with man crush on Winston that’s your opinion and that’s fine. go bucs!

  195. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

ODB…I can find 10-20 articles linking the Bucs to taking Winston and all of them give very good reasons why.

That’s why I keep saying it’s out of my hands and everyone’s on this site as well.

They are going to draft Winston and there is not a damn thing any of you can do about it.

  196. mikeh Says:

oh! because all them pinheads that write those articles know first hand who the bucs are taking. please its been going on like that forever! everybody opinion on who is picking who! whatever 87. you know it all too! we know! that’s all we ever hear from you! talk about a man crush! wow!!!!!!!
