Jameis Watch: Interceptions

January 4th, 2015

jameis 0104

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

Joe notices the anti-Jameis crowd roars about Winston’s bump in interceptions this season. Just some cursory research shows this isn’t uncommon for stud college quarterbacks.

Joe looked up Andrew Luck’s stats at Stanford (where he played for erstwhile offensive coordinator Greg Roman). Luck, a three-year starter, had his picks double after his sophomore year. And each year Luck played, his interceptions rose.

In fact, Luck threw double-digit picks his senior year, and with fewer attempts than Winston. Hhhmmm?

Funny, Joe looked up Peyton Manning’s at Tennessee. From his sophomore year, Manning saw his picks triple and he had double-digit interceptions in both his junior and senior years.

How about Drew Brees at Purdue? In his second year as a starter, his sophomore year, he had 20 interceptions.

Let’s check Eli Manning at Ole Miss. His second year as a starter, his junior year, he had 15 picks.

Oh, then there’s Tom Brady. He too had double-digit picks each of his last two years at Michigan.

Ben Roethlisberger had double-digit picks in each of his three seasons as a starter at Miami of Ohio — in the MAC!

Tired of interceptions? OK. Guess who once held the record for most consecutive passes attempted without an interception?

That would be one Trent Dilfer.

Maybe folks should’t be such slaves to stats. By the standards of the anti-Jameis crowd, every quarterback Joe sited above (sans Dilfer) should have been an outright bum in the NFL, right?

Leave Jameis alone!

  1. Sapp, STFU Says:

Joe, this post is a stretch. Your readers are willing to let you drop this daily Winston blog commitment if you’ll spare us the, “he messes up like the best” nonsense.

He carries too much baggage and off-field risk for Lovie/Dungy to draft.

  2. Tmaxcon Says:

Hire Trestman and Draft Winston. Bucs need to keep it simple and not get off track and lose focus with all the drama and media attention the first pick brings. Hopefully the glazers will strip Lovie of full control before free agency starts.

  3. lightningbuc Says:

How many times did those QBs mentioned get sacked by a ghost and launch the ball backwards 10+ yards?

  4. SAMCRO Says:

Funny, when Joe wants to prove a point he uses stats from other players but if any of us compare stats to other players to prove a point he shoots it down. Stats are for losers, remember?

Let’s say something like Joe would say, “Winston is not Andrew Luck, thats ridiculous – Joe”

  5. flhillbilly Says:

Hire Trestman and Draft Winston. I 2nd that!!

  6. SAMCRO Says:

Remember last year when everyone was talking about Glennons rookie season and how statistically it was better than some of our elite QB of today’s rookie season? Joe didn’t want to hear it, and chastised anyone who made any of those comparisons.

  7. DB55 Says:

    Joe

What did glennon do? Inquiring minds want to know! Oh yea baby, MG threw 29 ints his last 2 years in college. That makes him the best of the bunch.

    MGMforlife

  8. DallasBuc Says:

    Take Winston. Win football games.

  9. biff barker Says:

All the more reason to take Mariotta. He only had two picks during the regular season.

  10. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Joe, could you please just be objective on this subject? While I see you think #5 is the answer, there is another option. I do not see ANY articles on Mariota and what he can bring to the Bucs. This QB debate is worse then Dems and Reps in November, but as an Indy I try to see all the options and evidence before coming to a conclusion.

Joe will write plenty about Mariota. In fact, Joe just wrote about him a bit this morning in the Chip Kelly story. Joe writes opinion daily. Opinion is not objective. However, Joe is presenting all kinds of sides and links on the Winston debate.–Joe

  11. Tmaxcon Says:

    Sapp stfu

So the post is a stretch because you dislike Winston. It must be frustrating that the numbers are not what you wanted them to be.

Hating Winston is a personal choice and given his bonehead choices he has made, I don’t blame some people for Hating him. That being said, to ignore facts and stats to support your hatred is asinine and you lose credibility.

  12. crazy Says:

I suspect L&L passed on taking a QB last year because they were looking at Winston for this year. After seeing him take a step back on the field as key offensive stars left is he worth using your #1? I just don’t see it. If he’s the guy they still want trade down and let him fall to you. There are other #1 worthy players in the top 5 or 6.

  13. OB Says:

What happens if Winston does not declare for the draft in 11 days and decides to play baseball and come back and win the championship for FSU?

Do we take Mariota or the draft picks from Chip Kelly?

I say we take Mariota in any case, get some good offensive linemen, put in a modified Oregon offense with our RBs and receivers we could have a field day, imagine what a real QB and ME13 and VJax they might have 2000 yards each.

Or Winston declares gets his signing bonus, gathers his crew, and watches the OTAs from a cell. He needs to go to a small town like Green Bay or Buffalo where it is cold and it will keep him indoors.

  14. Shane Marco Says:

I’m willing to bet that the overwhelming majority of college qb’s who throw double digit interceptions don’t go on to become successful nfl qbs. Post that list Joe…Ill be waiting for its completion sometime next week.

  15. sinker Says:

Ya lets get a locker room distoyer like revis in to make sure we suck for years to come. had revis not called Sapp up with every little thing winy ass thing he thought of in the locker room. to cover up his own inability after his injury. it only takes own person to ruin a team. Keshawn Johnson ruined us revis ruined us. do not let a rapist ruin us!

  16. jfat Says:

Manning tripled his ints…went from 4 to 12…he also threw 37 TDs his senior year. Similar for Luck, his ints rose every year…all the way to 10! Coincidentally, he also threw 37 tds his senior year. Kinda easy to manipulate stats with words. I’d be ok with drafting Winston, but you can’t completely dismiss his stat regression this year..think its pretty obvious Kelvin Benjamin was missed.

  17. finishers Says:

Winston is not leaving FSU he will play baseball this spring and go back to FSU fall sorry joe

  18. DB55 Says:

    Jfat

No doubt kb was severely missed. All I know is that the glennon clone one another PO game yesterday.

    MGMforlife

  19. Tim Says:

Without bothering to look up the stats of the other comparisons, I couldn’t help but laugh at Winston’s high interception total being grouped into a generic “double digits” category that makes his season appear comparable to other elite quarterbacks college years.

  20. unbelievable Says:

Not only is this post a stretch, but how do you keep bringing up Dilfer? He was never a good NFL QB. He’s a great analyst now, understands the game amazingly… But you can’t possibly put him in the same area of Brady, Luck, Manning, Brees, etc.

Just cuz he got a ring doesn’t make him an amazing qb. C’mon Joe, you know better than that.

  24. Nybucsfan Says:

@joe when is it going to be Jameis watch accused rapist sexual assault and dummy. And a bunch of other stupid things this dummy has done

  25. unbelievable Says:

@lightning, he listed stats for Andrew Luck.

And then Manning. Then Brees. Then Brady. Then Dilfer. And he mentioned Dilfer amongst these other quarterbacks in an article last week too. Did I miss something? Not sure why you are arguing with me in the first place

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe….do you seriously think we tanked our last game so that we could draft Winston?
How about some Mariota articles like every other sports site?
How many teams will be making phone calls to Licht because they want to draft up for Winston.
This is actually more comical than your Johnny Football articles.

There is absolutely no way the Glazers are going to permit (even if they were inclined) Lovie & Licht to choose Winston over Mariota.

  27. Buc-O's 82 Says:

Shameus interceptions came against playing UNRANKED teams, unlike the afore mentioned QB’s in this article. Conveniently Joe left that part out.

  28. Nybucsfan Says:

Wait do you want the dummy here so your friends at the Dolman law group can make some money off him? What is your kick back?

  29. unbelievable Says:

@Nybucsfan “do you want the dummy here so your friends at the Dolman law group can make some money off him? What is your kick back?”

    LOL! That was good.

  30. R.O. Says:

Because the turf gave out when he planted his foot. That’s what your going to judge him on when he fumbled.. Would you have a problem with the Bucs Trading for Rothlisberger rather than signing Mccown. He also was accused of sexual assault. Mariota is a bust in waiting. At least JM has the ability to succeed. He is no idiot either. Someone who academically qualified for Stanford, I’m sure none on this site would have qualified for HCC.

  31. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Winston throws interceptions because he stares down receivers and has a hard time reading underneath coverage. You can see Florida for the underneath coverage. All fixable though. The hard part will be not staring down receivers. Needs to work on throwing mechanics as well to speed it up. Again, all fixable.

  32. JSmalls Says:

    @Lightning

How many of those QB’s were forced to produce a first down in a collegiate playoff game on 4th&5 down 19 late in the 3rd? I mean, Big Ben threw an INT to Suggs last night that was on par…. Like the bumper sticker says – Sh*t happens.

  33. chris k Says:

I’m not sure what to say on this. Joe may be the only person in America who has Winston ranked higher than Mariota. Let’s say for argumeunts sake they were both equal in talent and intangibles, which they are not, but for Joe’s sake we’ll say they are. There is absolutely no way the Bucs can hitch their future on a headache like Winston! There’s no way and they won’t. So now considering all that we know Mariota is the obvious choice or a blockbuster trade. Get over it Joe! Give the fans what they want! A Mariota watch and Mariota stories.

  34. McBuc Says:

Best JW watch article yet! Go joe!

  35. Mr. Patrick Says:

Just because some gets older doesn’t mean they “mature”, it doesn’t mean they become a good or better person, they just get to be an older version of themselves. If the Bucs draft Winston it will set the franchise back another five years

  36. DB55 Says:

    R.O

If we traded for rothliberger there would be a parade down dale mabry. Go figure. Hmmmm

  37. Bucnut2 Says:

Joe, there is so much misleading info in your post, it not worth going through. The bottom line; you are either a marketing genius which I believe you are or totally nuts. No way any GM in the league takes him number 1 overall. There is too much risk. This is much like Johnny football last year; personal issues kept him from going top 5 and his situation will make NFL GM’s more cautious on Winston because the Browns look like they squandered a first round pick on him. Jamiemore talented than Manziel but will likely slide out of the top 10. I suspect that he is getting advice to stay in school because his draft stock falling! He has talent, not #1 talent. He should stay in school, mature, put up big numbers and come out in 2016.

  38. biff barker Says:

Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Winston throws interceptions because he stares down receivers and has a hard time reading underneath coverage. You can see Florida for the underneath coverage. All fixable though. The hard part will be not staring down receivers. Needs to work on throwing mechanics as well to speed it up. Again, all fixable.
    ——————
Some said Freeman’s mechanics and accuracy issues were fixable too. He was still staring down receivers his last start here too.

But it really didn’t really work out too well. And this was just the physical aspects. You know the rest .

    Take Mariotta.

  39. buddah Says:

There is no debate here for several reasons:

    1. Winston is highly likely to return to school. he has been advised by his coach and by those close to him not to come out. I am in favor of taking Winston if we can trade down. Several knowledgeable commentators are now saying that Winston could easily fall out of the top 10.

    2. It may not matter to Joe, but character matters a great deal to NFL scouts and front offices. OK, if you don’t want to judge his character on alleged crimes, then give me some evidence of his good character. What good has he done in the community? How has he helped people? What does he do when he’s not playing sports?

    3. Have you ever seen Manning, Brady, Brees or other elite quarterback give lip to their coach on the sideline.

    4. Winston is at best “a project.” His football IQ is high; his emotional intelligence is extremely low.

    5. Simply stated, you don’t take a player with number 1 who has these question marks.

  40. rayjay1122 Says:

Winston will stay in school. We draft Mariota. We still suck next season and only win 2 or 3 games and then draft Winston next year. So there you go. We will have both QBs. That is nonsense but it would be ironic. Lol.

  41. Eric Says:

Winston makes throws Marcus can’t make. But Marcus makes plays with his legs that Jameis can’t.

    Pick your poison.

Either way as long as they aren’t named Glennon or Mccown I’m gonna be happy.

  42. DB55 Says:

If you could play for the bucs or the Yankees who would you play for? Wwjd

I’d play bb. No contact millions storied franchise. Duhhh

  43. Bucnut2 Says:

All of you should take a look at Bill Polian’s comments on Winston. Suffice to say, he calls into question many of his on field skills. Gil Brandt commented last year that Mike Evans made Manziel. I wonder if Benjamin made Winston????

  44. Brian D Says:

Didn’t Marino throw 26 picks in his final season at Pitt and drop to w. Of the first round for off the field concerns? Oops.

  45. Bucnut2 Says:

Buddah, well said! You laid out why Winston to the bucs is a bad idea and not happening!

  46. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Joe you are missing the point, yes opinion is not objective. But how can you deny the fact there is another QB that is an option at #1. You wrote about Mariota ONLY due to the Chip Kelly Connection. Where are the Mariotta charts, or the Mariota he only has 3 int’s this year. It’s Johnny Part time all over again. We all know you are on Winston like Johnny party time on a beer, but you do your readers a disservice by not covering the other option.

  50. Soggy Says:

Thats a funny looking picture of winston up there..

  51. INDYbucsfan Says:

Does Winston need contacts? He always seems to be squinting when he’s looking over at the sidelines.
Personally on this debate I think people are worried about drafting a black QB, especially one with off the field issues.
I’m more worried about marcus getting injured running it.

  52. Gooberville Says:

Joe your articles are only ones that knock him and try to further your support for Winston. Nice try though. I for one am happy you’re in love with Winston. You are always so far off and wrong with your anaylsis I would be very worried if you supported the QB the Bucs are drafting.

  53. Broy34 Says:

Shane you’re the dumbest person I’ve seen on here. That list u were talking about – the 5 best qb’s in football. Nice try. Love when people read joes post and comment everyday and bitch and whine about his posts. GLENNON SUCKS STOP COMPARING. HE COULDNT START ON A TWO WIN TEAM

    ____________________________________________________________

Don’t want a running QB with inflated stats. I rate Winston 0.100 higher than Mariota.

  55. tmaxcon Says:

    Joe,

Are you aware of the date for the Derrick Brooks jersey buy back sale??? Brooks did endorse Winston and has publicly stated his support several times the last few weeks. I am assuming with the blind hatred and lack of any objective thinking that Brooks will be abandoned as a franchise great to those of you who are just ridiculous in your blind hate.

Hate the guy if you feel that strongly it’s your right. He gives you enough ammunition to justify your hate there is no need to get creative with math or defend the undefinable. The creative math trying to destroy Winston’s great career rivals the glennon mob in their heyday. Hate or not he was 26-1 over two years of Division 1 college football that’s pretty damn good. It would take Glennon 13 seasons to get close to 26 wins at his current win percentage. And for those fools who say wins are overrated the object of the game is to WIN!

Both are going to be good QB’s but I for one prefer Winston. After a 2-14 season Lovie does not have the luxury of waiting on Mariota to develop. Winston / Trestman buy Lovie at least 1 more year.

  56. TOGWOOT Says:

Hire Trestman, draft Winston and draft the best OL’s available with all other picks=SUPERBOWL!

  57. Ed Says:

What if Mariota go back to school then what? No one has talked about the interception that Mariota threw, while trying to read the defense in the FSU game. The pro game is faster, those throws to sidelines won’t work because pro corner back’s play bump and run very good. Will someone tell me what chip kelly has won in the N.F.L. with that offense and how many quarter backs has he ran off. Information flowing around is that player’s do not want to play for Kelly. It did not take N.F.L. defense’s long to figure out that offense.

  59. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The only sure way to get picks…..and Winston is to trade the #1 pick to Tenn….
While, unlikely…..it would be better to do that than to pick Winston outright at #1.
At least then we would get something along with him. I’m not in favor of this but it is a scenerio not put forward yet…..

  60. ndog Says:

For those of you saying the Luck v Winston comparison is ridiculous I agree Winston was much more successful than Luck, and better leader to boot.

  61. BFFL Says:

Mariota cannot be sacked just like Russell Wilson, has a trigger like Aaron Rodgers and the decisiveness of Brady.

Winston has the pocket presence of Freeman and the ball security of Josh McCown. Oh yeah, he’s an alleged sexuall assaulter, argues with coaches and likes baseball better…all great leadership skills for an NFL QB.

Every GM, and national pundit says the pick should be Mariota, but here we are on a Bucs opinion blog debating something that is so simple and obvious.

  62. Architek Says:

INTs doesn’t always depict QB effectiveness.

  63. Tampabaybucfan Says:

My fear is that this debate will continue well beyond this year’s draft….we need to support the decision at least until and if it becomes obvious that it was the wrong one.
I suspect unless Winston doesn’t declare for the draft…that….Joe will continue to stubbornly support him all the way up to and beyond the draft. That would be very unfortunate…..but, as we have heard so many times. “Joe writes about what interests Joe” and that is not only his perrogative, it’s freedom of speech.
I am thankful he allows me to disagree with him.
The much requested (primarily by TBBF) Winston/Mariota JBF Poll is upon us….and it will not likely provide any surprises.

That mistake would be drafting anyone with the first pick besides Mariota.

  73. Bucfan4life Says:

Ok the Winston bashers will never change their mind but it is actually funny that you predict him to be a bust. I can only assume you haven’t really watched Mariota and the system he plays in. 2 yard screen passes and QB runs is basically what he is asked to do. He may develop into a good NFL QB one day but as of now there is no way to know that. Really watch Oregon play and what Mariota does. That offense is amazing and he excels at running it, but for the love of god it bares no resemblance to an NFL system. If the Bucs draft him under Lovie’s system it will be huge mistake. Screens at tHe line of scrimmage to Vjax, Evans, and ASJ will not turn into 50 yard gains like they do when he throws them to Oregon burners.

  74. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

  76. lurker Says:

  77. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Winton threw alot of screens and dump off passes as well in the first half of that Rose bowl game. Don’t act like Mariota was the only one doing it.

  78. mac Says:

I think Winston threw more picks because he didn’t have K. Benjamin to throw to…

I believe Winston’s stats will improve when you surround him with more talented receivers…

However, I’m still far too concerned with his immature behavior and poor decisions he makes… Let another team risk their future on a immature head case…

I do not want Winston as my teams leader… Its a bad idea no matter how many picks he throws…

  79. Bucfan4life Says:

Just watch the tape skyline. It just doesn’t translate. I am not an FSU fan but Mariota is a huge gamble. Guys like Erik above obviously just has his mind set on him and is ignoring all the warnings about Mariota. I have no doubt he would be a star if he could go play for Kelly up in Philly but not here under Lovie Smith.

  80. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

Ignoring all the warnings about Mariota??? Did a Winston supporter SERIOUSLY just say that?!?? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

  81. Bucfan4life Says:

Yes. All of Mariota’s warnings are on the field. Throwing across his body, lateral screen passes combined with errant throws when he does throw it for more than 5 yards and lots of QB runs should be warning signs for you. I know you are certain that Winston is the second coming of Aaron Hernandez but trust me, their are very valid reasons to be concerned about Mariota succeeding as a pro.

  82. Bucfan4life Says:

Personally I would like to trade with Washington, get their 1st and 2nd round picks and RG3. I think RG3s chances of future success are just as good as Mariota’s and this way we could get a 2nd round pick with it.

  83. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

Fair enough, but Mariota is still a less risky investment overall than Winston. And he possibly has a higher ceiling to go with his higher floor as well. Everyone in the country knows Mariota is the right choice. (Except Joe and a few others).

  84. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Problem is Winston did the same in that game. He threw lateral screens. He threw across his body. He threw bad passes. He stared down receivers. I personally don’t like his slow throwing. Reminds me if a baseball throw honestly. He also threw some passes sidearmed. Majority is fixable just like Mariota. I’m just tired of people posting as I Mariota is the only one with onfield issues. Winston has them as well. However, he also has off field issues. Both if these QBs are far from perfect. I’ll wait until the 15th, but I don’t think Winston comes out. Also, we might have to wait until after the Superbowl to see who our OC will be.

  85. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Mariota is better than RG3. Problem with RG3 is that he looks to run first. He is bs about it. He did it in college and his stats from college prove that. Mariota doesn’t run nearly as much as RG3 did. I think RG3 is the only QB in the NFL with as many rushing yds as he had.

I never thought anything could get worse than the Johnny Boy crush of last year that made it such a long off season. I have never been so wrong before!

  87. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Also, RG3 still doesn’t know how to slide. Doubt RG3 will be up here Washington much longer. Can see him being let go. Now Redskins might want to trade up to get a QB, but Jay won’t give the same up. If they would trade Trent Williams I would listen.

  88. Bucfan4life Says:

I just don’t want to see McCown or Glennon on the field next year. Not a big fan of Foles or any of the other FA QBs out there. As a fan I am hoping the Bucs take a QB in the draft and he pans out. If they aren’t sold on one of the top 2 prospects I would like to obtain draft picks and still get someone behind center that is better than what we currently have.

  89. ndog Says:

Just look at the playoffs folks how many option style qbs do you see playing this weekend? You can say Mariotta does not run first and what not but he still comes from a SYSTEM that gives him advantages he simply won’t get in the NFL. QBS left playing this weekend: Stafford, Brady, Flacco, Manning, Romo, Wilson, Big Ben, Rodgers, Newton, Luck, Dalton and Lindley. Let’s see which QB has the same traits and throwing skills as the vast majority of that list. DUH this is not that hard to figure out folks unless you’re a Gator fan then you are just blinded by dislike.

  90. Jimmer Bob Says:

I’m Out. Tired of the Jameis blog.

  91. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

ndog, you are funny. Wilson, is considered a running QB as well as Newton. Saying a QB comes from a system means nothing. Everybody comes from a system in college. No college team uses NFL plays. We will never know how they will do until they get to the NFL. Otherwise, all those pro style system QBs would still be in the NFL, when a lot of them never pan out. Everyone is assuming with out really knowing.

  92. ndog Says:

Crazy thing is if you watch the games it is clear most of Mariottas throws are wide open and based off of play action from the read option and the fact that the defense cannot even get set do to the speed in which is they go. This just does not happen in the NFL, outside of the Eagles, and he will not get those wide open receivers at the next level. Plus Wilson is the only successful QB that has come out of that type of system Newton is always hurt and inaccurate. And while no one runs a NFL system some of them have traits that translate and Oregon Is Not one of them. FSU happens to be one that does

  93. Gt40bear Says:

Already burned out on the Johnny Manz…I mean Jameis Winston boy crush. For that matter the Winston .vs Mariota hype/argument as well. Nothing we fans say is going to change how the Bucs draft. Personally not sold on either although I know they are going to have to pick one unless they are blown away with a trade deal. Like a minimum of 6 premium picks AND starting quality QB. Without upgrading OC, OL coach AND Oline significantly, it won’t matter WHICH one they choose.

  94. Tampa2ali Says:

I have never in my life seen so much hate for a guy none of u know… As a true buccaneer fan and as a nfl fan I look to playoff teams to see our direction and as far as know their are no spread offense trick play qb in the fight a Super Bowl and I don’t remember ever watching one win in a Super Bowl .. So the answer for me is simple.. I choose the pro style qb who struggled through adversity this yr but found a way to win… Don’t let hate guide ur decision, because if we get either one we all should be rooting for whoever is under center, so try to find a way to except both guys…. #itsabucslife

These posts should be called the “Joe’s man-crushes of overrated players Watch”

  96. Nybucsfan Says:

A lot of The QBs in the NFL played in the spread in college. So I wish all the FSU fans and Jamies the accused rapist fans would take a real long look at this no good kid and you pay him 20 million out of your pocket I wouldn give two cents for him. I mean he is a real class act lol

  97. 87ForJamesOrMariota Says:

Blah blah blah…”I don’t want Winston” blah blah blah “I do want Winston”.

That’s what we will hear from now until the combine, that’s when Winston blows Mariota’s doors off.

Plus unless they get a real gimmicky OC Mariota will be a bust in Tampa. That’s clear for ALL to see.

Yes I’m back. Been a little sick lately had a 3 night stay in the hospital without an Ipad, and I hate TV. Still recovering though. So I won’t be on that much in the next 3 days. It just feels good to get up and be out of bed right now.

YES I did see the Rose Bowl game. YES it was the outcome that I expected. In case any of you were wondering. I watched it from my hospital bed, from begin to end and the presser afterwards where Jameis put his ebonics on full display.

That was when I said maybe some of these guys are right. Do I want that guy standing at our podium speaking almost, incoherent english at times?

Hell if he pans out and becomes a star for us, then I won’t mind the ebonics at all, but if he doesn’t pan out and talks that way at our podium. That will just make our team look like even bigger fools than they are now.

Oh well just some random thoughts that I’ve been thinking about since the Rose Bowl.

  98. 87ForJamesOrMariota Says:

Actually from what I could tell…Teddy Bridgewater speaks pretty good ebonics as well…so who knows?

  99. iamkingsu Says:

Enough is enough. All this defending mariota crap is ridiculous. Post a link and show me 3 great throws he’s made since hes been at Oregon. I’ll even take the time and view it.

Having spoken several times with folks who cover FSU on a daily basis, that is the first time Joe has ever heard that. In fact, Joe has heard the total opposite. Heard his personality lights up a room.

  103. Brandon Says:

Winston is, by far, the closest thing to a sure-fire franchise QB since Luck came out. As a matter of fact, people want to compare him to Big Ben, but I think with his athleticism, he’s closer to Luck.

If his off-field concerns checkout and he does okay on his interview, there is no way you can pass him up.

What did glennon do? Inquiring minds want to know! Oh yea baby, MG threw 29 ints his last 2 years in college. That makes him the best of the bunch.

You think that’s something, you need to watch the full game of him vs. UVa in his senior year. He single-handedly had one of the worst games in CFB that season… and completely threw the game away with his inaccuracy and decision making against an AWFUL UVA team.

  105. Shane Marco Says:

    @broy
Who the hell said anything about Glennon, all I said was there are far more qbs that throw double digit picks and never make it in th league than qbs that do the same and become superstars…learn how to read shithead

  106. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Sinker,I wonder how you feel about big Ben up there in Pittsburgh? Funny how we comment on other people’s lives with out making mention of other folks who might have went thru situations similar.

  107. pick6 Says:

too much is made of the INTs. FSU was still a talented team after the draft exodus last year, but way less experienced. i think the point of the post is not to project him as a hall of famer, but to point out that there are clearly other aspects of evaluation that trump College INTs when looking at pro potential.

  108. Kingpin Says:

“leave Jamies alone” . You sound like a spoiled little girl!! Are we picking on your little crab leg stealing, interception throwing, playoff losing, loud mouth cursing, bb gun shooting, referee pushing, sideline arguing, accused of raping, eye squinting, who knows what else, thug little friend Joe???

  109. Vorblaw Says:

Winston’s int total was up for one reason: breaking in 3 underclass men wr’s who gave up on routes too soon. Jamies is a winner and a leader whose team loved him. That doesn’t happen to “bad character” guys.
