When Joe snapped this photo in Atlanta, seconds before the start of the second Mike Glennon era, Joe had no idea snapping the ball would soon become a major issue.
Against Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay showcased a new brand of ball security. They had back to back delay of game penalties in the second quarter, despite being lined up and ready to snap the ball.
Those watching on TV saw Mike Glennon set in the shotgun looking furious when Evan Dietrich-Smith played a costly game of keepaway.
Of course, Dietrich-Smith had issues with multiple snaps in Atlanta, too.
Lovie Smith addressed the consecutive delay of game calls against the Steelers, via the Buccaneers Radio Network last night. Lovie took the politically correct route and said the screw-ups were a team effort.
“Sometimes, you know, we just didn’t handle the situation as well as we should. Kind of simple as that. That series in particular, we had the couple. And that was a combination of us losing track of the clock a little bit, not getting the play in quick enough, a lot of things. We were all involved with those blunders,” Lovie said.
What most troubled Joe was the Bucs were flagged for a third delay of game in the fourth quarter on a key drive, and they followed that up with a false start by Louis Murphy. Thankfully, on 2nd-and-23, Glennon connected on one of the last talked about big plays of the game, a 21-yard strike to Austin Seferian-Jenkins. The Bucs moved the chains on the next play thanks to a Steelers’ neutral zone infraction.
It’s important to note that the headset communication for the quarterback only is active, by league rule, until 15 seconds are left on the play clock. Then it shuts off.
Looking at those plays again, it was clear relaying a play in was not a problem. But getting the center to snap it sure was.
That’s all stuff a veteran head coach should be able to clean up quickly.

I never trusted this crap to begin with. I think it should be taken out of the NFL. It leaves room for people like me to speculate whether there is cheating (rigging) going on or not in the NFL.
Example : he’s open throw the ball to Smith. As the headset is still on….

Good game all around in Pissburg despite the blunders.
Should get some Pissburg OT’ers whining in here, lots of them live in Tampa. Pissburg Jerseys back in the closet, with their piss stained yellow towels for now.

It did seem like one of those delay calls seemed too fast and that the play clock was’nt reset as someone mentioned here yesterday. It should be reviewed to see if that was the case.

@TAC – yes it was Mankins. I was pumped after seeing him do that heads up play. That was AWESOME! Great to have him in our team.
The Patriots are having a hard time without him.

Yeah TAC, everytime the Reelers play in Tampa their fans outnumber the Bucs fan. This game had them scurrying back into their cracks.

Cant believe I am pumped up again this season, We are basically one game down in our division, We must get the secondary thing fixed fast we need this win sunday..This division is being kind to us right now..C”mon lovie get er done..

That Neutral zone infraction was directly due to a heads up move by savvy vet Mankins. The most underrated, heads up play of the day!

If Mankins felt like he was leaving a championship team before the trade, last night’s game might’ve changed his mind. The Patriots are average at best this year.
Dietrich-Smith will either figure it out or we’ll get a new center. I think he will though, he played much better than the Falcons game (where he had a lot of company for worst game of the year). The delay penalties looked a screw up at the QB/OC level, probably.

Steelers fans do not outnumber Bucs fans at Tampa games so I can only deduce two things about your comment Bucfan37
You have never been to a Steelers-Bucs home game and you believe every rumor you might read or hear.
I have been to every Steelers-Bucs game in Tampa since the teams inception, including one that was played below freezing in the 80s, and never have the Steeler fans outnumbered the Bucs fans.
They are, by their upbringing and nature, louder, drunker and much more obnoxious, but they have never outnumbered the calmer and more well mannered Buc fans.
I attribute this Steeler fan behavior to poor upbringing and delusional thinking that they are still living in the 70s.

slightly off topic, but you have to wonder if Bill Belichick’s arrogance has exceeded his team’s ability to back it up. if so, it’s his own doing. Tom Brady sure could have used Mankins, Welker, and some others they’ve recently parted ways with over pennies (NFL pennies, not mere mortal pennies) last night. No Tim Wright sightings even in garbage time…after watching some talented bucs go up there and win many more games than we have, i have to cop to a bit of schadenfreude watching them get pummeled last night. Getting Mankins was theft, and Brady is still getting mugged because of it

ddneast… a lot of Steeler fans relocated to this area and across the country. They show up in big numbers everywhere like the Packers fans. They may have not outnumbered Bucs fans as you suggest, but it’s a lot of them. I also went to that freezing game, the wind was blowing frigid cold. Being a local, it was the coldest game I’ve attended.

I like EDS…think he’s brought some nastiness and bit of “crazed lunatic danger” to the oline…one of those guys you’re always lookin to see where he is,so he don’t sneak up and whack you in the back of the head with his helmet. Kinda Dobler-esque for the older crowd.
