Lambs Quarterback Situation A Mess

September 10th, 2014
Lambs backup QB Shaun Hill was, as Charles Barkley would say, "turrible" in the Lambs season opening loss to the Vikings.

Lambs backup QB Shaun Hill was, as Charles Barkley would say, “turrible,” in the Lambs’ season opening loss to the Vikings.

Just like last week, the Bucs will face a backup quarterback Sunday when the St. Louis Lambs blow into town.

Last week, as we all remember, the Bucs couldn’t take advantage of facing the dangerous Derek Anderson who outplayed Bucs quarterback Josh McCown.

With the Lambs, their quarterback situation is a complete and total mess.

Sam Bradford blew his knee out in preseason (again), his days in St. Louis are likely over. Shaun Hill replaced him and last week never made it to the second half. His numbers were a woeful 8 of 13 for 81 yards.

Hill reportedly injured a quad, though cynics in the Gateway City believe that was a guise for his benching. Monday, the Lambs signed Case Keenum, late of the Houston Texans and a star quarterback at the University of Houston, where he shattered NCAA passing records.

Who will start at quarterback for the Lambs is anyone’s guess, though Lambs coach Jeff Fisher is leaning (allegedly) toward starting Hill again.

For Bucs linebacker Mason Foster, it doesn’t matter who starts.

“No, I never think about stuff like that,” Foster said Tuesday. “Because they’re all NFL players. Nobody’s that bad where you can just say, ‘Take this out of the game plan.’ So I prepare for everybody. They’re going to have to prepare like they’re going to have the best game ever against the Bucs.”

This may be the week the Bucs get something of a pass rush. Last week against the Vikings, who were horrible last year, the Lambs were porous allowing five sacks.

If, for the second week in a row, the Bucs do not take advantage of a short-handed team missing its starting quarterback, especially a team like the Lambs that’s dumpster diving for QBs, then Joe had a bad hunch this may be a(nother) long season.

Dreadful? That’s a better completion % than our former franchise flake.

  2. phil Says:

I’m sure we will make whoever is quarterback look like an all pro just like we did last week with Derek Anderson.

  3. CC Says:

Mason Foster better prepare better than be did last week because he was “TERRIBLE”.

  4. lightningbuc Says:

“8 of 13 for 81 yards in the first half?” I’ll take it.

    Signed,

    Josh McCown

  5. Buccfan37 Says:

Keenum sounds like a better option for the Lambs, but whoever it is I expect multiple sacks by the Bucs D.

  6. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Shaun Hill will get player of the week for the NFC after this showing in Tampa Sunday afternoon…. he will then go on to be the “hot backup QB, should be a starter” see josh mccown, matt flynn, matt schaub, ryan fitzpatrick, matt cassel etc. get a big contract and then the said team or actually the dumb fans will realize by the coach and personnel staff as to why the stiff was a backup

  7. Espo Says:

    It’s pronounced

    “Turrible.”

  8. NewTampaChris Says:

Is it possible for an 0-1, non-playoff team to be playing a must-win game?

  9. BucsfaninChina Says:

When the next three games are away in playoff contenders’ houses, yes.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

@lightningbuc…lol you beat me to it.

  11. Bobby Says:

We din’t make Anderson look like an all pro, he just played extremely well against us. I have no problem giving a guy props when they are due. His throws were very good all day and so was his decision making other than the throw to Goldson which should have cost him the game.

  12. Chef Paul Says:

    Dumpster diving for QB’s.

Freeman still unemployed. That says in the NFL world, Freeman is lower than the sticky scum that resides in the bottom of a dumpster that even a stray cat wouldn’t lick.

Joe- the next article that should follow this one is “Yucs Quarterback Situation a Mess”
I don’t see how you could argue confidently that their starting backup QBs are worse than our starting backup QBs. Haven’t checked but wouldn’t be surprised if Hill has more starting experience and wins than that late bloomer we have behind center! I still can’t believe we went into this season with McCown as our QB. Guarantee every team we face this year sees their Bucs week as an automatic “W”, especially with McCown as the QB.

  14. robert9 Says:

he cant be any worse than our QB!

  15. Buc1987 Says:

    lmao@Chef Paul

  16. Chef Paul Says:

Hey give McCown a break. Atleast he isnt the forth best qb in the division. He is at best the 6th best qb in our division.

  17. Patrickbucs Says:

    Mr know it all Dallas.

You see what that mediocre Miami front did to Brady last week and the POW honor. When things are going well you can’t be found like in the 3rd pre-season game when there not your the negative genius. Sweet life bro

  18. DallasBuc Says:

Patrick- was right here during that 3rd preseason game which in some ways was not that different a performance from last week for McCown. McCown is not good and never has been. Look, if he somehow becomes good I will acknowledge it and rejoice! Until then he sucks out loud. Ignore reality if you choose.

  19. FLBoyInDallas Says:

CB Mike Jenkins out for the season with a torn pec. DE Scott Solomon waived. CB Crezdon Butler signed and DE Jacquies Smith claimed off waivers from Buffalo.

  20. BucTrooper Says:

… so based on last week’s game, Bucs should lose 21-20….. BUT THEY PLAYED HARD!!!!!

  21. BucTrooper Says:

I’m calling on Joe to clear up this statement:

“This may be the week the Bucs get something of a pass rush. Last week against the Vikings, who were horrible last year, the Lambs were porous allowing five sacks.”

Will the Bucs be GETTING a pass rush or will they simply be allowed, unchallenged, to get to the QB? I think, when talking about the 2014 Bucs, there is a DISTINCT difference between facing a team that is essentially 5 turnstiles and actually mustering up enough will and fortitude to effectively beat the man in front of you.

  22. Carls Toe Says:

Sam shows Dallas Buc Big D! Bunch of cry babies after one game. Suck it up or root for the Seahawks!

  23. DallasBuc Says:

Carls Toe- not going anywhere pal. Put up with it or maybe you should go root for the Seahawks. Probably not so much pesky negativity to endure with all that success over there.

  24. DB55 Says:

Seriously Soloman was waived but cousins still on the squad. Okay

  25. jfgobucs Says:

How can we call anyone else terrible….

  26. Joseph Mamma Says:

The Rams are starting Davin Joseph, why didn’t they give Josh Freeman a call? Just wanted to give you guys a chuckle this afternoon.

  27. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    Chef Paul classic my man

Dallas Buc…. at least you and I have been watching the same game. This guy does not deserve to be the QB here after that BS int last week….i mean freeman sucked but #12 has brought sucking to an all-time low…..no johnny football nor even aaron murray in our draft so bring on #8 and then a 3-13 record

  28. buctebow Says:

You know what would really be embarrassing…if the Rams signed Tim Tebow and he started and they beat us.
