Report: No Fracture For Charles Sims

August 15th, 2014

A Charles Sims injury update.

Yesterday at the final Bucs practice of training camp, a jarring sight could be seen just before the lighting alarms went off to delay practice. It was highly-touted running back Charles Sims watching from the sidelines in a walking boot.

After practice, Bucs coach Lovie Smith was rather vague about what was wrong with Sims, saying only the following:

“Sims will not play,” Lovie said. “It’s unfortunate, his ankle injury. But that happens. That’s all we can say now. You saw him in the cast, the walking boot. That’s normally not a good thing. He won’t play in the immediate future, that’s for sure.”

That did not sound promising at all and Lovie’s tone of voice wasn’t very reassuring either. Of course, Bucs fans rushed to ponder the worst, which is understandable when limited or no information is available.

It seems Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times is offering a bit of clarity to Sims’ injury via an update he had on Twitter this afternoon. It seems to be good news for Bucs fans, and Sims.

Well, if it is not a fracture, Joe assumes it is not a break of any sort? Hope so.

Of course, if Sims has a high ankle sprain, those things are nasty and often take weeks to heal. Here’s hoping Sims just rolled his ankle and the Bucs are being extra cautious. No need to maim a high draft pick in worthless preseason games.

Rest him up. No need for him to see any action until a meaningful game.

  2. Architek Says:

Rest and recover for the long run!

Agreed. Let him heal up right instead of rushing him back. We have plenty of options at RB and slot right now.

His future sounds bright, if he fully recovers.

  4. Mac Says:

Good. I’m glad he is ok. Now trade him for a guard!!!

  5. DHutch Says:

Not the rookie. If anything, put him on IR.

Joe I see that you haven’t written any articles about us picking up Larry English? Or is he already on your bad side just for being injured in his past?

  7. Paul Says:

I heard he wasn’t on crutches. so theres your answer.

What do you want Joe to write? English hasn’t done a thing yet (bad or good).

Joe isn’t into copying and pasting dudes’ bios for camp meat/practice squad filler. Right now, English is just camp meat because Bowers (again) and Means are hurt.

Really, that doesn’t answer anything. Other than he’s not on crutches.

  10. Matt Says:

He will be out 12-14 weeks per Rick Stroud

You would rather a break in this case. Sucks was looking forward to watching this young man do some damage.

  12. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

No you would not rather have a broken ankle. That would require surgery and he would be out for the year. Bad sprain, bad luck.
