The Key To Keeping Humphries

December 13th, 2018

Surging.

There is a trend in college football, if you haven’t noticed, that could (should?) be a factor for the Bucs in the final week of the season.

The Bucs host the Dixie Chicks and after the game a very eventful if not interesting offseason will launch. And one wonders whether wide receiver Adam Humphries should even play in the game?

In college football, guys entering the draft or guys who are seniors who have hopes of playing for a paycheck are starting to sit out bowl games. Why risk an injury in an exhibition that could cost you millions?

This stinks out loud for college football fans, teams and the sport as a whole but it’s a savvy business move by players. West Virginia quarterback Will Grier (married to a Bucs cheerleader) is one of the latest to have jumped on this bandwagon.

Joe was wondering last night if Humphries might take a page out of Grier’s playbook.

Humphries is having his best season and it comes at a perfect time, a contract year. Humphries is likely to bank a healthy seven-figure (or more) raise in the coming months. Joe isn’t sure that will be here or elsewhere.

It did get Joe thinking maybe Humphries should (ahem) come down with a cold or a hangnail in the final week to ensure nothing dire happens on the football field, and his millions float away down the Hillsborough River.

Then smart Evan Silva of Rotoworld.com posted a Twitter that sort of gives Joe a clue that Humphries just may return to the Bucs in 2019.

Obviously, Humphries shines when America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is in the game. Not only does this tell Joe that Jameis likes throwing to Humphries (and Cameron Brate and Mike Evans), but this is a potential sign of the future.

If the Bucs keep Jameis, and there really is nothing obvious to suggest the Bucs won’t for at least next season, it would be wise to keep one of his favorite receivers who also happens to be productive and dependable, and who doesn’t whine about who is playing quarterback and likely will never ask to be traded.

I like Humphries. No doubt, he is one of the best slot receivers in the game but I just don’t see him as being a number 2 WR. He’ll always be the 3rd receiver.

In my opinion, Justin Watson has a better upside than Humphries. I am ok with signing Humphries but I think he be more valuable to another team with more money to offer. He deserves it.

Licht should already be locking him up to a long term contract. Watson will be the backup to Evans and Godwin if one of them is hurt, and trading off Jackson will furnish both hopefully a third round pick and open up the cap to afford signing some of our players like Humphries who gets more YAC than our other receivers. I also like us using Bobo Wilson on kickoffs which helps keep Humphries fresh. The Ravens got more sacks last week than any other NFL Team and with our pitiful OL Coached by stupid Warhop our running game will go nowhere again and the Ravens will be coming after Jameis and he will have two seconds only again and Humphries will be a key player.

For goodness sakes lets keep something that is working.

Making much about nothing. He has already said Tampa is home.

His best buddy/roommate is Cameron Brate.
He will give a slight discount and realizes he is 3rd slot receiver . No ego with him.

He will go to the Patriots and become a HOFer.

the key to resign adam Humphries is trading mesean Jackson for a bag of footballs or a box of crayons

hump might have to wait to get signed – if first priority is to fire the coach and bring in a new regime…the glazers might have frozen licht and koetter from these type moves for the moment…and let a new staff decide if hump is a good fit with a new direction…just sayin’…

Doesn’t matter who the HC or GM may be, AH10 is a keeper. Give him his due!

It’s great to see a guy signed off the street make it big time. Shows you what determination and grit can accomplish. Pay him and smile when you write the check !

If/when the Pats come calling, Hump would have to listen if not strongly consider an offer from them.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Hump is a great #4 WR!

In a different system that is based more on finding open areas in short zones as opposed to going deep he’d probably be a very good #3.

Anywho Hump as your #4 is where he’s an ideal fit. He’s playing against backup corners or LBs and S’s, it’s when he’s in there against starting corners he gets completely shutdown and detracts from the team. So some people will say he’s a fine #3, and he probably is, but if he’s #3, that means he’s one injury away from starting, and then he’s killing your entire offense.

The tricky situation with keeping Hump has to do with pay. If he gets #2 money from someone – seeya. If he gets top #3 money, again, seeya. But if he gets middling #3 money, then sure, keep him as best you can.

Then again I think Bobo can step in and do the same thing as Hump just with more speed (but less quickness).

Best hands of this crew. Best YAC skills by far than anyone. Getting connected with Jameis. Fan favorite.

No doubt we’re gonna re-sign him. Drop Donovan Smith and get Greg Little in the first round.

For God’s sake just pay the man. He’s earned it.
