The Good And The Bad

July 3rd, 2018

Breakdown.

So now with the season hanging in the balance — in July no less! — the Bucs turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick as their quarterback.

They have no choice.

Since America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will be sitting out the first three games thanks to his sentence from NFL strongman Roger Goodell, it is up to Fitzpatrick to save the season.

Louis Riddick of BSPN gives us a breakdown of what we can expect from Fitz.

“What are you going to get from Ryan Fitzpatrick? You are going to get some good and you are going to get some bad,” Riddick said.

You can watch the full breakdown below.

Essentially, Riddick said the difference between a starting quarterback and a backup is consistency. Coaches and fans should not let themselves get fooled by flashes Fitzpatrick may display.

So now it is up to Fitz to try to steal a win in one of the three games he starts, each a division winner last year, one a defending Super Bowl champ.

Teams that start 0-3 since 1980 have a 2.9 percent chance of making the playoffs. And that doesn’t factor in the brutal NFC South.

Thanks, Jameis.

We can only hope this guy can play lick Nick Foles the whole season

  2. Pete I Says:

    Lets go fitz!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I am confident the if we lose all three games, it won’t be because of Fitz….

It will be because we can’t run the ball or our defense is weak.

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

I am confident, that if we lose the season, it will be because of JW3 who sunk the season and torpedoed the front office and coaching staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Robert Says:

he’ll be fine. it’ll show exactly how competetent this group can be when they play as a team and not the JW crew…..

he’ll spread the ball around, move the chains and win at least 2 games. If he wins 2 he should keep the job.

  6. Ptwalk Says:

@Realist, what happened to all this confidence you had in this coaching staff? The Eagle lose their QB for the season and go on to win it all. Surely this staff can coach 8 or 9 wins with the return of Winston right. You seem to be looking for an excuse for failure.

  7. JoeBucsFlan Says:

I will take Ryan Fitzpatrick over Josh McClown every time.

  8. Topdoggie Says:

Fitz at times looks like a hall of fame type QB. Just as you get your hopes up he ducs into a telephone booth and changes into Trent dilfer

  9. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

We have won games against solids teams in the past with below average to mediocre quarterbacks i.e. Dilfer, King, Sims, Greise, and Freeman but we had a good defense and running game that could produce. If our defense and running game can perform when we need them too we could win at least one game. For Fitzy in his first year at Tampa and having to come in like he did and give us 2 wins out of 3 games with no defense or running game I think we are in a better spot than most people think, the secondary, right side o-line and running game are the 3 main things that will be the determining factor to compete with these 3 power house teams.

  10. BrianBucs Says:

Fitz will not make bonehead plays that will cost you the game.

Interesting that on Florio’s Profootballtalk yesterday they said that considering performance both on and off of the field that Mariotta was the far “Superior” pick over Winston.

  11. SC Bucs Fan Says:

You are going to get some good and you are going to get some bad.

People get paid to spout this intense knowledge?

  12. AlteredEgo Says:

    1-0
    2-0
    3-0

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Fitz will have the benefit of Training Camp first team reps (or should)….this is rare for a backup suddenly coming in for an injury….I am expecting him to be a pretty steady hand.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    PTWALK

that’s exactly what he’s doing……he gave this staff a pass because dirk had a runny nose last week…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. Roy T. Buford Says:

The season is only hanging in the balance if the Bucs have no realistic backup or competition to Fitz. They need to bring in another game-experienced NFL QB who can be a decent game manager if Fitz goes down. I just if they don’t do that, it’s not because GM and HC want to have a good allibi if they tube the whole season (and I don’t think so). I expect we’ll see something else at camp.

Thanks Jameis Winston, for putting all of us in a crappy situation.

  16. Casual Observer Says:

I think Fitz will be better than expected/advertised. Pretty solid.

  17. JameisNOT Says:

Let’s just hope Fitz plays well enough to keep dumb as a bag of hammer JameISNOT on the bench. It will save th organization from future embarrassment and a boat load of money.

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

I agree with TBBF and Joebucflan.

Fitz is not going to win any of these three but he won’t lose them for us either.
He’ll just be another player in the offense and he doesn’t have to be a superstar as long as he doesn’t suck.

I think TBBF nailed it with the pressure being just as great or greater on our D and running game.

I can imagine…sorry it’s just in my imagination lol…JPP who has already starred in this league…Vita has a great rookie season…and that frees GMC to reach his max. We find one top shelf DB out of our rookies and VHG plays more like his rookie year than last year. This defense COULD become special…then again we’ve seen the other side of the coin.

Same for the running game. ROJO gets the most work but Barber gets the tough yardage calls and they end up complementing each other like WD and Alstott. I’m certainly not suggesting that ROJO and Barber are the equivalent of
WD and Alstott…just that they have complementary styles not similar skill sets.

  19. Defense Rules Says:

@Riddick … ““What are you going to get from Ryan Fitzpatrick? You are going to get some good and you are going to get some bad.” Wow Joe, I want his job. Kinda think you could say that exact same thing (some good & some bad) about EVERY QB in the NFL. And yes, starting with Jameis (i.e., Good Jameis, Bad Jameis?).

Fitz may be a journeyman QB at this point in his career (like Josh McCown), but he’s survived this long for a reason. Outstanding starting QBs don’t grow on trees; they take years to develop (Stafford is a pretty good example IMO of a QB who’s improved through the years). Fitz has also improved … doesn’t have the arm strength or quickness of many, but he’s improved as a game manager.

The big IF to me is not Fitz, it’s our OLine. Can they pass protect well enough to keep him injury-free AND give him time to execute the play called? Can they run block well enough to (finally) give the Bucs a respectable run game to keep opposing defenses honest? Can Koetter call plays that result in TDs as opposed to FGs (or 3-and-outs). I’m still ‘cautiously optimistic’ that Fitz can get us off to a 2-1 start against 3 outstanding teams … IF the rest of this T-E-A-M rallies around him & gives him a chance.

  20. Tony LA Says:

Only a bunch of soon to be fired idiots would stay with the status quo. There are several startervlevel QBs that are better than Fitz that the Bucs could probably swing a trade for well before training camp.

Bring someone in to compete with Fitz and even push Jameis. Staying status quo is disastrous. Fitz has never won anything in his entire career. Never.

  21. tval Says:

Yeah, factor in durability and mariotta is rg3 jr..lol enough with the nonsensical to fit your narrative..You obviously have given up comparing the two, like, ANY football mind worth a squat.

  22. Zwak Says:

Ryan Griffin will start all three games..

  23. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Fitz will be 0-3….

Jameis just stay healthy next year and escape the black hole that is Tampa bay Buccaneers football. Its too late for some of us to escape but your young run from this pathetic franchise with its soft pansy arse fanbase

  24. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

Running out of material? Same stories just rewording them

  25. AlteredEgo Says:

Beo……you are most annoying ….without an ounce of competitive fire….or in other words a loser….how the F’ do you quit and roll over admitting you accept losing the first game…much less 2 & 3…

  26. Ateonetree Says:

    Somebody call Jeff Garcia

  27. DB55 Says:

I keep telling ya to watch film but noooooooo I think I’ll just say what I feel. Dummies.

Matt Moore would be a great fit but I think Koetter has a thing for Ryan Griffin why else do you keep a 3rd string qb on the roster for 3 years who has never taken a regular season snap and was on IR with a hurt throwing shoulder?

Moore and Kapernick if you were actually interested in winning or at the very least competing

  28. AlteredEgo Says:

DB55….most certainly need to bring in another experienced vet QB…and not a ham and egger….may the best man win !…0-1 to start the season

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

    1-0

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

How successful do we want Fitz to be? Yeah we’re Buc fans so we ALL should want Fitz to go 3-0.

But honestly if you think about it and you are a huge Jameis fan that would be the worst that could happen for #3’s year. With all the stress and half the fan base really peoed at Jameis imagine we’re 3-0 or 2-1 and Fitz plays as we had hoped.
Nothing great but efficiently manages a game and our D turns out to be for real as do ROJO and Payton.

So the first pick six Jameis throws what happens in our stadium? Poor Jameis…he would have to be dang near perfect from the first pass before the calls for Fitz reached a crescendo.

It’s been said the most popular player on many NFL teams is the backup QB. Fans love him because he hasn’t done anything. What would happen if he went 3=0 or 2-1.

  31. Robert Says:

    Kap…….lol……

the funniest thing I’ve seen from this whole thing is db55 outted for what he really is…

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

“Giraffe in pewter will be in camp by the end of July…no way in hell will they allow ryan griffin behind center in a actual professional game….

that would be the lowest point in any franchise history even Tampa Bay”

    Kobe Faker

  33. JohnBuc06 Says:

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have …the BUCS!

  34. DB55 Says:

Outted? It’s never been a secret.

Bc Kap isn’t better than Fitz or Ryan? Or just bc he’s unapologetic? You hate when you can’t control these (cough cough) players.

  35. Jfgobucs Says:

    GOOD AND BAD…..Genisus….Go Bucs…

  36. Cobraboy Says:

I thought Fitzpatrick was more consistent than Winston in the games he started. Not flashy with big plays. But more consistent.

  37. jmarkbuc Says:

    Anthem

I’m pretty sure licking Nick Foles, is a mandatory 4 game suspension…

  38. Robert Says:

the (cough cough) players can do whatever in the heck they want, just like the other (cough cough) players……as long as it’s for the betterment of the organization. what I have a problem with is those that see themselves as bigger than the organization or they just don’t give a damn, or their to stupid to even realise what their doing.

it’s amazing the lengths people go to apologize and deflect…..

well he did this, so why can’t he do this….blah, blah…..call a spade a spade whatever (cough cough) they are.

  39. DB55 Says:

or their to stupid to even realise what their doing.

Does anyone else see the irony and humor in this statement?

    Ohh, geez, MURICA!!! 😂🤣😭

  43. Dewey Selmon Says:

If Tony Romo would come out of retirement he would light it up with the weapons a his disposal. If Fitz goes 1-2 I would be pleased. anything better than that is gravy.

  44. DB55 Says:

Lmao, be mad Robert, lmao, be very mad. Let that neck turn red buddy, let the whole face turn red. Here let me help, Obama😡

  45. DB55 Says:

    Dewey

Why not add Peyton Manning to that list? A broken neck never stopped anyone and Manning’s PED use certainly wouldn’t be an issue cuz well it’s Peyton Manning.

  46. Robert Says:

aint even mad atcha db, laughing right back atcha

  47. TX Bucs fan Says:

Glad you got rid of that cough Robert!

  48. DB55 Says:

Lmao, the sunken place is real.

  49. D-Rome Says:

I am confident, that if we lose the season, it will be because of JW3 who sunk the season and torpedoed the front office and coaching staff

That doesn’t sound like “real fan” talk to me…

  50. AlteredEgo Says:

    1-0
    any which way

  51. Trench War Says:

I would bring in another veteran just for this reason. After TC cuts the Bucs should be watching the waver wire for a released veteran QB, someone like Glennon perhaps, or a Flacco etc… If Fitz goes down then we are really in a world of sh|t.

  52. BuccYa Says:

Sounded like Riddick could be talking about Jameis too. IMO He’s also inconsistent. Hope he comes back and lights it up though.

  53. Ghastly Bucs Says:

“Essentially, Riddick said the difference between a starting quarterback and a backup is consistency. Coaches and fans should not let themselves get fooled by flashes Winston may display.”

How amazing it is that you can take these articles and replace Fitz’s name with Jameis’ and it still rings true. It makes reading them much better.

Hopefully, America’s Crotchgrabber will be refreshed after sitting for 3 games.

  54. SC Bucs Fan Says:

That’s ok because we know who the (cough, cough) racist is

  55. BuccYa Says:

Sounded like Riddick could be talking about Jameis too. IMO He’s also inconsistent. Hope he comes back and lights it up though..

  56. Chris K Says:

Win 1 game and Jameis returns on a mission with his head screwed on straight we got a chance. Win 1 game and Jameis returns and isn’t a true franchise QB then we’re screwed. Lose all 3 games we’re cooked too!

  57. Darin Says:

Not sure why you think Jameis would give them a better chance than Fitz. Do i think Jameis is a better talent at qb? Absolutely. Love his talent and passion. You’ve gota factor in everything tho. And of course wins are what they are judged on. Jameis hasnt done that yet. Fitz got the job done last season. I expect him to again. But once again it doesn’t matter who the qb is if SittinBackSmitty rolls out the same D. Every game can be won, that’s why they play and that’s why we watch.

  58. gotbbucs Says:

    Some good and some bad.

So basically we’re going to get the same thing Winston brought to the table.

  59. AlteredEgo Says:

Jamesi has all the QB qualities one looks for in a 2018 QB….below the shoulders…. hence the dilemma …
    Jameis drives HC’s CRAZY !!!

  60. Oneilbucs Says:

Good luck with fizpatrick. Cause y’all think he’s great . I can’t wait to see fizpatrick play .lol lol

  61. Oneilbucs Says:

If defense play well watch what happen . Go ask the jets even a good defense don’t mean nothing with fizpatrick. You will see they are going to stack the line to stop our run game and make fizpatrick beat saints, eagles and Steeler 0 n 3 all day .

  62. Capt.Tim Says:

What the fans shouldnt fool themselves about

    – Is that Anus Jameis is a starting QB.
Fitz has a better starting record with this team, than “Americas Sexual Predator does.

Or Meybe Jameis and that sweet 3-10 performance last year impressed you.

We need a QB. A smart QB. No more metal defects like Anus Jameis or Partying Josh Freeman.

This team, with one more year of experience( Rbs and Secondary) , will be ready to win.
Anus Jameis will likely be facing his next issue.

Forget these first 3 games- we need to worry about the other 13.
    And the next 6 years.

  63. passthebuc Says:

    Where’s the Ira Kaufman podcast?

  69. JohnLynchBrokeMyBody47 Says:

Our success – with JW or Fitz at the helm – begins and ends with the OL play and the running game. I feel (you are totally free to disagree) our D will play above average throughout the year and keep us competitive. I won’t go so far as to say we are Super Bowl bound, but this team still looks pretty darn good (on paper) to play like they did last year.

  70. BuccYa Says:

    Ira podcast??

  71. gman Says:

How many times can the Joe’s write the same thing 8 different ways….Fitz is the QB for the first 3 games…maybe he willdo well…maybe he will suck…Christ, move on

  72. dbagsy Says:

Ryan who? Yeah, the kid who has never played a regular season NFL snap.

Hell yes on Moore, Hell yes on Kap.

Someone entrusted with the spam filter….someone trusted to comment…this is a person (s) of great importance who is behind the scenes backing up Joe.

    Kap?
    Lmfao
Some of you dont learn at all.
You want to backup one mental defect, with another!!
Do you really believe No one will sign Kap, just because of the kneeling thing?

    Well, for me, thats enogh.
But in a QB hungry league- it takes more than that
    Hes nuts. Thats bad enough.
But he has a girlfriend- pushing him futher and futher away frim reality

You think a Sexual predatoy and a career Partier are bad?
Crazy Kap would drag this franchise beneath the barrel.

Can we just get a regular, egotistical, Sane QB
    Just for a change?

  81. BucEmUp Says:

How can anyone not be as worried about the defense at they are the QB situation? If the bucs are 0-3 it won’t be because of Fitz….it will be the defense guaranteed.

    BETS ANYONE?

  82. Bucnjim Says:

Kap? LOL He burned the bridge on his two best chances the 49er’s and the Seahawks! Basically telling them both to F off.

  83. Bucnjim Says:

McDill AFB is a major source of pride within the community as well as the police, fireman, and national guard. So Kap is not an option in the TB area. Now I do think Winston is getting screwed because of his history of bad decision making! As I posted on the previous post it is almost impossible to grab a girl between the legs while she is driving. Especially if you are making unwanted advances. The most likely common sense scenario is he put his hand on her leg and she said no way. Even drunk he stopped what he was doing.

  84. SB Says:

Lol TBBF. They did too but I ran a Concrete Demo saw and a chipping hammer for 4 hours out of my 9 hour day today. Stupid @ss concrete guys covered up one of my tub drains. Nasty day today.

  85. Bucnjim Says:

Quick question to everyone here have you ever been drinking and messing with your girlfriend on the way home while she was driving? Putting your hand in that position even when wanted is tough especially when right handed. Not saying he’s innocent but find it very tough to believe unless she had other intentions.

  86. DB55 Says:

I’m blushing guys, I feel the luv. 😘😘😘😭

  87. NPR SageBoy Says:

I like our chances with Fitz. America’s Turnover Machine, Sexual Assaulter, Jameis Winston needs to go.

  91. Capt.Tim Says:

Innocent people dont get together with Ronald Darby, and concoct a lie.
    Innocent people tell the truth.

The young lady driving the Uber didnt ask for anything, didnt file a police report, and didnt hire a lawyer- until Anus Jameis did, and called her a liar

Dhe reported him for Sexually assaulting her, to prevent the creep from trying to moleste other young women- trying to make a living.

    Fk him. Dump him

  92. Roy T. Buford Says:

    Capt Tim…birds of a feather….
I’m sure the Eagles are getting all over Darby, telling him he needs to stay away from Jameis…walking trouble….a bad influence on anyone. God help us; keep Jameis away from people in our community.

  93. Capt.Tim Says:

Roy, agreed- but I think he’s already broke trust here.
How can the Glazers pay him $25 million a year- and trust him to lead the team-
When he looks them right in the eyes, and lies to them!!
A big concocted lie, after hiding the incident from them, until they get Blind sided by Godell

    How can they trust him?

  94. Oneilbucs Says:

Capt.Tim that’s the first I heard that . You just making up stuff. You never wanted Winston any way so to all y’all I can’t wait to see fizpatrick lose 2 if not all these games Winston have put this team in position to win 5 times and defense gave it up so you can say what you want . Fizpatrick is trash n always will be. I say let Griffin n fiz compete for the job.
