“I Think You Are Staring 0-3 Right In The Face”

June 27th, 2018

Depressing forecast.

The words from former NFL quarterback Danny Kanell are simple and to the point.

The Bucs are doomed.

That’s what Kanell had to say in a recent CBS Sports video.

Speaking of the Bucs and the pickle the team is in with the pending tentative three-game suspension of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, Kanell tried to put a happy face on the sad situation.

But even Kanell is not that much of a BS’er. Kanell tried to talk up the possibility that Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t that bad of a backup, but at the end of the day here comes 0-3.

“Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to earn his money this year,” Kanell said. “This is what they brought him in for, in case something happened to Jameis Winston injury-wise. Sure they didn’t plan on starting the season with him. But he is a seasoned veteran who can run your offense. He is not going to turn the ball over a tremendous amount. And he is going to be able to guide you to hopefully a manageable record.

“But against this stretch of games at the New Orleans Saints, against the defending Super Bowl champs the Eagles and then one of the most prolific offenses in the Pittsburgh Steelers? I think you are staring at 0-3 right in the face.”

Kanell also scolded the NFL for dragging this Jameis investigation for so many months.

You can see Kanell’s full take below.

  1. AlteredEgo Says:

    I don’t accept that !….

  2. Joel Says:

0-3 start with or without Jameis. 5-11 season with or without Jameis.

It’s time to clean house once again. New GM, new coaches and new QB. I wish we could also get new owners but that’ll never happen. Bucs are a cash cow for the Glazer boys. Win or lose. Just like the Culverhouse years.

    Let’s move on.

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think there is a great chance that he only gets two games of suspension.

And if that is the case, it means the NFL found no proof that Winston is guilty or lied. Heck, you could even assume that with a three game suspension. The NFL has to suspend him…just to save a little face. So the Failure to Report will be the excuse they use, even though he should not be suspended at all.

The National Media is blowing it way out of proportion. Waaay out of proportion. And the FSU/Winston haters are piling on: some even creating multiple accounts here in order to make it seem like there are more of them than there really are.

This is the premiere site for Bucs fans, and they know it. Anyone want some real common sense, listen to Ira’s podcast from earlier this week.

  4. Ghastly Bucs Says:

I think we would be looking at 0-3 regardless if Winston was starting or not. Until I see him improve his game to what he was hyped to be, he is just an average to above average QB. Nothing special, but will get yds and tds.

  5. BrianBucs Says:

Bucs are looking 0-3 in the face with or without Winston

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Here we go with multiple usernames again.

Listen, if you don’t think the Bucs can win any of those games, then you have not been paying attention to them this off season.

This is NOT all about Winston anymore. For the first time in a decade, we have the makings of a powerful defense.

If Fitz can minimize mistakes, we will win. Period.

So get out of here with your negativity, Joel/Ghastly.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    /BrianBucs

Notice how all three of them essentially said the same thing? Man I miss the times when multiple usernames were not permitted.

  8. unbelievable Says:

No Bonzai the difference between a 2 or 3 game suspension is huge.

2 games means it’s most likely for failure to report.

3 games means the nfl thinks it’s true , and that they lowered it from 6 down to 3 because they worked out an agreement that Jameis would not appeal.

    That’s a big difference.

  9. Lamarcus Says:

It’s sad that JW haters resorted into believing a prisoned rapists to prove a point he so called lied to make him a rapist.

    Bucs fans we are toast

  10. Roy T. Buford Says:

Hogwash to all of it. Yeah, stinks that #3 has brought this all on (starting with decision of company he keeps given his own past, and only getting progressively worse, the extent yet to be known). It stinks that Fitz isn’t 29 years old and better than he is. But let’s go back a few years. How bad was that team under Schiano and Glennon than went into PIT and beat the Steelers in their own house for the first time EVER? How dinged up was the team that beat KC, SD, and SEA two years ago? How good did we think we were with Lovie going up against the Titans four years ago. I remember TKraz saying he didn’t see how the D would score a TD. OUCH! The team that stunk last year almost beat the Pats at home (save for the kicker). There are a thousand factors to every game. If the D on paper shows up for any/all three of those games in reality, and if any/all of the teams make one more mistakes like the Bucs certainly could or might, it’s a different game. Go back to 2010 with JoshF and Raheem and they went 10-6 with probably the worst O and D I’d seen in a long time. I have no problem saying that they can go 1-2 and well as 2-1, and I’d be as suprised with 0-3 as much as I would with 3-0. This is with our without Jameis. Whoever really knows…would be unbelieveably richest in the world because they’d bet on their kowledge. Not there is it? So let’s play the game. Losers count loses befor the game is played.

  11. Roy T. Buford Says:

Correction: Tkraz…said he didn’t see how any team would score a TD on our D.

  12. Tony LA Says:

Such a negative vibe around this team all the time

  13. Not there yet Says:

Man we have some of the weakest fans in the entire sports world. You take anything someone says as gospel and you don’t even know why your minds are so weak

The year before last we went 9-7 last year when we thought we would be better we went 5-11. Since when does last year’s record define the next year for any team?

You weak arse people are saying we’ll start 0-3 based on last season. There’s no guarantee Jacksonville is back are back in the playoffs. The saints don’t make the playoffs every year in case you are a new fan. The Steelers running back isn’t even planning to show up at training camp and may not even be full speed by game 2 even if he is there should be gaping holes to run through. Eagles…. Do you really think they are about to go in a patriot like run? They aren’t the same team neither are we I mean we have two of their players

  14. Dapostman Says:

Pittsburgh on the road, early in the season and a Monday night game. Bucs win it. The Steelers always throw away an early game. The issue will be can the Bucs win @ Chicago in week 4 to go 2-2 after a huge emotional Monday night win.

    2017 L @ Chicago (5-11) week 3
    2016 L @ Philadelphia (7-9) week 3
    2015 L vs Baltimore (5-11) week 4
    2014 L vs Tampa Bay (2-14) week 4
    2013 Started 0-4
    2012 L @ Oakland (4-12) week 3

  15. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Hey! I called it! More doom and gloom from another talking head. At least this is saving us from 2 articles a day on how bad our D line was which must be driving TMax crazy.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

@Bonzai … “This is NOT all about Winston anymore. For the first time in a decade, we have the makings of a powerful defense. If Fitz can minimize mistakes, we will win. Period.” Agree 100% Bonzai, but it appears that the media just won’t let this bone go.

I’ll say one thing: if I was a Bucs’ player right now, this whole stupid episode would be fueling my motivation big-time to prove all these idiots wrong. A TEAM is much more than just one person, but there’s only one way to show that to most people … WIN. Other than that, all we’ll forever hear is ‘Oh woe is us. If only we had Jameis out there. We’d be going to the SB now.’ This Bucs’ team still has holes (OLine, Secondary especially) BUT … they can overcome that IMO IF they pull together. Wouldn’t hurt if Licht signed a veteran OLineman and veteran outside CB though.

  17. SC Bucs Fan Says:

DR, I don’t know if all media care about this; mainstream news sites you have to search for it. Only here does it encompass every article so coverage seems skewed.

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

This incident will be over and swept under the rug before too long, to add to the pile of dusty futility already there. It has been a number of years sweeping the shoulda coulda woulda out of sight, time to clean that mound I keep tripping over. A fresh start, that’s what I’m talking about.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

0-3….?…..that should really please the “tank” for a better draft pick losers…..just think of the head start we’ll have on the #1 pick in 19.

I don’t buy it either….and the last thing the team or fans need is some excuse before the fact…..no excuses….not even the Winston suspension.

I think a better running game…..game manager Fitz and a stout defense can win one or two of those games.

  20. SB Says:

“2 games means it’s most likely for failure to report.”

It won’t be for failure to report. That rule came out 6 months after the alleged groping. It will be because he lied.

  21. Ghastly Bucs Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai – It is just me. I was Skyline Crew previously, but changed the name because it doesn’t fit anymore. I had the name Skyline Crew because of Vincent Jackson, Evans, and ASJ. I changed it up. I’m not the other two you mentioned, but it is nice to know we think the same.

Regardless of what we look like on paper, I haven’t seen any of it come to fruition. We have had a good defense on paper for a long time. Our secondary is always shaky when it comes time for rubber meeting the road. Sure, I think we can beat the Saints, but we usually split with them every season anyways. So whether we win the first game or the 2nd one, it doesn’t matter. We haven’t swept them.

As for Pit, if you think we can stop Bell and Antonio, more power to you. Again, they’ll have to prove it, but when it comes time for action, they don’t hold up. It will be a nice sight to see if they can actually do it, but I don’t have faith in the Defensive coach.

    Cheers buddy

  22. JFlo-Bucs Says:

It’s very disheartening to see the number of fans on this site that only think DOOM and GLOOM, this is the NFL and we have all witnessed the pendulum effect any given Sunday. This team is better than last years, we have solid picks and maturity. I value opinions as much as anyone else, but people, if you’re first thoughts, are negative, please go turn in your Bucs paraphernalia and root for the Dolphins or Jags.
    GO BUCS!!!

  23. 813bucboi Says:

how can a 2game suspension be a good thing?……ive never heard of a “good suspension”…..

if the NFL finds that Winston did not grope this woman and she lied, he shouldn’t get suspended at all…..failure to report doesn’t stand because their would’ve been nothing to report…..if not for the lie, his account would’ve never been suspended….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  24. JoeBucsFlan Says:

just think without Winston on the field we will have a deep ball threat again. Could free up the running game.
Fitz may have some early success as long as they don’t go all Dungy and play overly conservative. Let him air it out.
Play to win, don’t play to not lose.

  25. VA Tom Says:

You know, I’m pissed at Jameis, I’m frustrated with the Bucs…but I don’t see them going 0-3. I just don’t. I feel Buckner will get the juice. Out of the DLine. I think Smith’s D scheme works with a better DLine. I think Fitz has fantastic talent to work with. If the O Line isn’t a shambles… Im concerned about the lack of consistency…and Fitz has time to make reads I see better than 0-3.you know what I’m scared of? What happens when Jameis returns and feels that pressure to make up for his transgressions? I’m worried Jameis goes 0-3 on his return. That scares me. His return psyche is gonna be a mighty wildcard. If he goes 0-3 or 1-5 after the bye throwing ints and fumbling while trying too hard… thats where we lose our season

  26. Wausa Says:

I am very confident the Bucs will start 0-3

  27. Ghastly Bucs Says:

Here, I’ll be optimistic, the Bucs start 1-2.

  28. Duke Says:

    Bonzai,

JW lied. They have proof. Damn amazing how many people refuse to accept new information and move with the information.

  29. passthebuc Says:

This is not Madden football, any team that goes into the first 3 games think this is a pushover, will get there head handed to them

  30. gman Says:

The players get paid either way…any pride these clowns had left long ago….they have no reason to be motivated

    Defense Rules

I’ll say one thing: if I was a Bucs’ player right now, this whole stupid episode would be fueling my motivation big-time to prove all these idiots wrong. A TEAM is much more than just one person, but there’s only one way to show that to most people … WIN. Other than that, all we’ll forever hear is ‘Oh woe is us. If only we had Jameis out there. Wouldn’t hurt if Licht signed a veteran OLineman and veteran outside CB though.

  31. gman Says:

I tell you what…if this team starts over again…I think it will be without me…this will be my 40th year as a season ticket holder. Jaboo or bust…and I save 3 grand a year

  32. Casey Morgan Says:

Roy T. Buford– very well said. I was at the Pittsburgh game with Glennon a few years back and KC when we won there as well. Football is about offense and defense and special teams. We should be able to run the ball. Defense should be noticeably better. We have a great punter and a legit kicker. 2-2 going into bye with either QB…

  33. Pryda... sec147 Says:

Lmao this team is not going 0-3

  34. Destinjohnny Says:

Fitz and 3 are about equal, although Jameis leadership is through the roof
    Been saying 6-10

  35. Mike Says:

Warren Sapp should be his life coach

  36. unbelievable Says:

Ah, that’s a good point SB.

    Well, kind of chitty too.

  37. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I just got back from the World Series of Poker and a friend of mine stayed a couple of extra days. He is from Cleveland. He texted me today from one of the sport books and said the Browns are3 80/1 to win the Bucs are 100/1. He even thought that was ludicrous. I think the Bucs will be greatly improved because of the upgrades on defense and the drafting of a RB. Winston being a scum bag and a looming suspension is a big issue though so that may have influenced the odds.

  38. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Odds of winning the Super Bowl

  39. Jbravo Says:

How seriously can you take someone called jaboo….hes a bs artist and he lied. ..never
    Understood this loveseat for jw.

  40. Anonymous Says:

    Sorry for my last conversation

  41. DBrad67 Says:

    0-3 yeah right

  42. DBrad67 Says:

0-3 yeah right!!! Let me help everyone out
First of all didn’t we beat the saints to end the season!!!
Number 2 the last time we faced the steelers it was @ Heinz field and they took the “L” 27-24
Lastly although the last time we faced the eagles it was a 45-17 shalacking, however the prior three games we’re all Buc victories
So 0-3 isn’t what we’re accepting so keep denying, disbelieving and debunking the Buccaneers we can take it we’re Stick Carriers

  43. firethecannons Says:

The defense is the answer to everything this year. Drew Brees is not so accurate when severely pressured. Fitzpatrick is risky and very interception prone without the Jameis upside. Remember the last Saints game : the lastdrive:
Jameis engineered an incredible drive ending in a touchdown–it was really impressive–it showed us the potential he has. We need to accept the suspension when it comes and KEEP him on the team whether we are disgusted by his 2+ year old behavior or not.The running game needs to get established in a hurry this year to keep Fitz from throwing “desperate” passes. The Bucs can do this but we need to realize Jameis has problems and needs to get help(psychological) whether he likes it or not but HE MUST STAY — if he plays poor–then he can be made to walk da plank as soon as we can pick up a better QB.

  44. firethecannons Says:

It occurs to me that Jameis problem may a drinking problem. Many people his age do not drink daily but when they do–they get blackout drunk and make impulsive life changing mistakes. Perhaps when he was having relations with Erica Kinsman he was drunk too. Just because he is not a daily drinker it doesn’t mean he is not alcoholic in his behavior.

  45. Danglin71 Says:

Let’s play the games!!! Yeah Winston gone for 3 games, guess what there are 52 other players on the team as well maybe they’ll play a part in the games?? Go Bucs!!

  46. Ed Says:

The NFL is a crazy league, did anyone think preseason 2017 that Philadelphia Eagles would win the SuperBowl period, let alone with Nick Foles at QB, a team without any top 25 players? Heck no.

So why is it an assumption the the Bucs start -03. How do these writers know that maybe JPP, Vinny Curry and Vita Vea may not jell with Gerald McCoy and generate a physical defense that can be intimidators and carry the team with defense.

I can’t get worked up over team record predictions until they play a few games in Sept then we’ll see.

No question Jameis Winston is a big play QB but he is also a career loser so his ability to win games without a decent defense is suspect.
