“He Is Very Smart”

June 18th, 2018

Talks America and BBQ.

It really has been just a matter of weeks since center Ryan Jensen joined the Bucs’ roster. But one thing has jumped out to him about his new offense.

Jensen has been impressed with the football IQ of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

Last week Jensen appeared on “Total Access” seen evenings on NFL Network. There, Jensen was asked about Jameis.

“Jameis has all the talent and all the skills needed” to be a top-level quarterback, Jensen said. “He is very smart. I’ve noticed that through OTAs and the first couple of phases of the offseason. Just him being able to dissect defenses and see what is happening and getting us on the right page.”

Couple of other highlights. Jensen was asked about his Twitter feed, which is full of him grilling out. Jensen’s reaction? “Who doesn’t like to eat?”

Jensen was also asked about Jameis’ comments about him stirring things up in underwear football. Let’s just say Jensen smiled and didn’t deny being involved in any fracas.

You can watch the interview below.

So is this the year Winston shows why he was the #1 pick and 1st qb taken or will he remain an average-Joe ??:))

  2. m0j0 Says:

He’s definitely got all the tools to be great, and some hard earned experience to go with it. This is the year that he starts to put it all together.

  3. ndog Says:

Ben I have a funny feeling you and several of your friends on this site are never going to happy with Jameis. Cause if we win it will just be because someone else was awesome. Your dislike is clear like so many other that post on this site. He could go 34-35 with 3 TD’s and you would come on the next day and say man that one throw he missed was the just horrible that guy is so inaccurate, we should have kept Mike Glennon or Bruce Gradkowski!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Give Jameis a team….he’ll win.

  5. Anonymous Says:

    Yeah man! Bring back Gradkosski!

  6. Anonymous Says:

@ndog completely agree. They’ll never be satisfied unless we get the second coming of Joe Montana

  7. jmarkbuc Says:

    ndog

If JW goes 34-35 for 3 tds , everyone will be thrilled with JW…it’s what we have all been waiting for…

There’s no need to over-hate on JW, but there’s no need to over-defend him either. All he has to do is play like an overall #1 pick (the good kind, not the Ryan Leaf kind) and everything will be good…

  8. Jim Says:

I don’t know where Ndog’s been, but on this site, Jameis is rarely cited for the losing record. It’s either the injury, or the defense, or the offensive line, or the coaches, or the schedule, or the hurricane, or Hard Knocks, or Doug Martin, or Gerald McCoy, or…

  9. German Buc Says:

Sorry, Jim – but ndog is 100 % right. If he wins a Super Bowl the way Brady won his first, some guys on this site will call for his release cause it’s obvious that we don’t need a QB when we have to rely on a kicker.

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Hell, My uncle was a Brainiac. He died a pauper. Just because you are smart does not equal WINS. Not all Smart people finish first. I’m in the middle of the pack in my family. And the so called smart ones owe me so much money..I’m like the GODFATHER! Jameis needs to PLAY smarter and better if he is ever going to ne mentioned among the elite in this league.

  11. Guinness8 Says:

The NFL Total Access link is bad. I could not find it on their Twitter feed either.

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

All the skills in the world.

But can he learn to make smart decisions.

Hes really good right now- can he achieve Greatness?
Yes, if he quits throwing the ball up for grabs- and groping Uber drivers.

I expect Jameis to achieve greatness. Meybe not this year, but for sure next year

  14. Gambelero Says:

This is the year. Jameis isn’t a rags to richest story. He comes from a middle class background, a two parent household where his own dad coached him as a youth. His extended family has a lot of educated, successful people. And Jameis listens to his family’s advice. They’re looking at what’s happened to Phillip Rivers, Andy Dalton and (to a lesser extent) Matt Stafford whose miserly and dysfunctional owners cost them any chance of greatness. Like the Mannings keeping Eli out of San Diego, one more year of poor oline play and a last place defense, they’ll be in Jameis ear not to sign any extensions and leave Tampa after his fifth year. We might be able to tag him one time, but we haven’t had anyone we wanted (or was good enough) to tag in so long, I don’t see it. If we do tag him for 2020, we’ll have a year of no football during negotiations after the 2020 season before the NFLPA will allow the current tag system to stay in place.

So, this is the year the Glazers and their management have to prove they are (1) committed to winning and (2) capable of making enough good strategic decisions to give Jameis a chance to win rings. Otherwise, he’ll leave and start the HOF portion of his career somewhere else. People on this board will be wondering why didn’t he play that well while he’s in Tampa. How many wins, playoff games and rings are you going to get with a defense gives you 30 fewer possessions than Jacksonville had, an offensive system that has no hot reads for receivers on blitzes or an oline that got him hurt and then re-hurt and gave up so many penalties that called back big plays (maybe it was small sample size bad luck, but it was uncanny how many of the holding calls corresponded with big plays).

  15. Jim Says:

Sorry NDog and German, you still need to figure out how to tell a fact from an assertion. Hint: “If…then” is the latter.

  16. Jim Says:

Test: The day Winston was drafted, he said “We’re going to the Superbowl”. The Bucs still haven’t made the play-offs. Can you tell fact from assertion? Good.

  17. SB Says:

I see what you did there Ben.

  18. SOEbuc Says:

    Jameis+oline+running game= 50% chance of W’s. Defense= other %50.

  19. Owlykat Says:

When they make Godwin the speed receiver and have VJax get his yards on slants and YAC, and get better blocking from our OL and do better in our running game, Jameis will start looking the Elite QB that he is.
