“He Has To Start Carrying The Team; The Excuses Are Over For Everybody.”

May 3rd, 2018

Tough talk on Jameis and the 2018 Bucs from an iconic Buccaneer

The draft picks are intriguing and talented. The free agents feel like upgrades. The trade for Jason Pierre-Paul has you drooling.

But most Bucs fans know what position stirs the drink.

Ronde Barber certainly does.

Talking draft with The Johnny B Show on 102.5 FM The Bone recently, Barber gave a few takes on the state of the Bucs and he zeroed in on the guy under center, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and general manager Jason Licht.

“Jason’s done a great job, man. I think they feel that this has to be the year for a lot of reasons on this football team. Your quarterback is in a division now where he has to start carrying the team. The excuses are over for everybody. Right? And they need to win,” Barber said passionately.

“They’ve accumulated enough talent. But that talent over the past two years hasn’t translated into a playoff berth. I mean it just feels like this has to be the year. I’m excited about what they’ve done, to be honest with you.

“I’m somewhat of a homer even though I’m an analyst for FOX Sports. I’m still a homer for the Bucs. I do the preseason games. I have an affection for’em and I want to see them do well. And I like those guys [in the front office]. Those are my friends. So I want to see them succeed. I was happy with their direction this offseason. They put together a good draft board, and they got exactly what they wanted out of their first five picks.”

Powerful stuff there from Barber, who very likely knew exactly what the Bucs desired before the draft kicked off last week.

Yes, it’s now or (maybe) never for many Buccaneers. Kickoff in New Orleans in 129 days.

  1. AlteredEgo Says:

Actually….IMO…he needs to stop thinking like he “needs to carry the team”…..just do your job like Brad Johnson…..and everything will fall in place…

  2. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

This will reflect on coaching if the job does not get done.

  3. CharlieB Says:

Jameis is still a kid and most QBs play their best ball in late 20s/early 30s. He’s shown nothing but a willingness to improve and be a team-first guy. I know tough rhetoric and impatience are the name of the game, but we’d be stupid for moving on from Jameis even if he puts up another year like last.

  4. Tval Says:

gotta be patient with the young team. rams fans thought goff was a bust until they put a line in front of he and Gurley. hes a super solid young qb like wentz and dak….if you put a team of MEN around them. wentz wasn’t ANYTHING until he had the #1 oline, Alshon, Ertz, and, arguably, the best defense. i cant count minny after that nfc champ..can i?

  5. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Tval

Its year 4 now. There shouldnt be anymore patience.

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

If Koetter ups his offensive approach and Winston is healthy we should score 25-27+ PPG.

Formula for 2018 = offensive exploding to its potential and defense being able to close out the leads with a pass rush finally.

    I’ll always be optimistic lol

    GO BUCS

  7. Robert Says:

play fitz and we make the playoffs

  8. Licht’s Out Says:

Ronde is on the Mt. Rushmore of all-time Buc greats and made arguably the most important play in franchise history. Why not make him GM if the 2018 Bucs falter? I believe he has the chops and charisma to pull it off.

  9. Chris Says:

Man the Bucs screwed up when they took Winston over Mariota. Mariota gutted through an injury and had the best adjusted QBr when they broke down and charted his throws.

Give Mariota the talent winston has at receiver and This is a playoff team.
Winston needs to dial in and cut out the cheerleader crap. It’s not leadership until you can lead with your play on the field. Not with your mouth.

  10. Robert Says:

they need to stop trying to be explosive, and try just moving the chains consistently. take what the D gives you. They now have the TE, RB, slot guy in Humpries (Brady would make him a superstar!), Evans for the tough stuff, Goodwin should replace D Jax…..and take what the D gives them.

Chucky would have this team in a top tier offense with Fitz as the starter and D Jax as a return man, end around guy, over the top once in a while….but mainly just as a smokescreen. The only time D Jax should see the field is ina 4 WR set.

  11. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    @Robert

Did you even watch the games last year? Fitz is hot garbage. The only reason we won 2 of those games was because we played two garbage teams and our defense ACTUALLY played decent

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

    lol @ the adjusted QBR

Dude had more interceptions than TDs. That had to be a sh1t load of adjusting.

Mariota – 79.3 QB rating 62% completion / more interceptions than TDs and 7.14 YPA

    Titans D – defensive yards and points allowed per drive – 11th & 19th
Titans rushing offense – 15th in yards top 5 in TDs

hurt shoulder Jameis Winston – 92.2 QB rating 64% completion; 2:1 TDs and 7.93 YPA

    Tampa D – yards & points given up per drive – 31st & 30th
Tampa rushing offense – 27th in yards and tied for 25th with TDs

    Much adjusting indeed.

  13. AlteredEgo Says:

stop saying Jameis is still a kid…quote his age…and stats….

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

Mariota also had a better offensive line per any rating system and 2 RBs better than any we had; along with Delanie Walker / Eric Decker / Rishard Matthews/ Corey Davis / Jonnu Smith / Taywan Taylor…. He has plenty of weapons…

  15. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    Robert

Do you have to try to be that stupid or does it just come naturally?

  16. Robert Says:

hurt shoulder jameis… lol….and mariotta was not hurt?

and how many of crabbies yards were garbage yards when the game was already lost. They guy calls audibles like peyton manning, but the net net is a L

are we making excuses for W’s now just because fitz was playing. thats just downright sad man. the manlove for JW is deep with that one. you have his pillow case and sleep in his jersey?

  17. Robert Says:

yeah, I stand out from the crowd, genius usually does……..

the herd just can’t recognize it, but I am humble enough to live with it day in and day out…

  18. miken Says:

@lord… theres a reason no one has signed demarco and delaine walker vs cam and oj? Corey Davis was terible as a rookie and matthews and decker wouldn’t see the field in Tampa with evans and djax. Godwin would start for them.

  19. miken Says:

Year 4 of JW should be bombs away and our scoreboard operator will be busy putting up #’s for us finally

  20. Joe Says:

made arguably the most important play in franchise history.

Don’t think there is any “arguably” about it.

  21. Ptwalk Says:

So Fitz and Gruden are the answer, huh Robert? Lmao

  22. Waterboy Says:

    Agree with AlteredEgo.

  23. BucfanBF Says:

Winston is going to reap the rewards of a running game and a better defense. Winston isn’t the problem folks.
Robert, You are clueless to make that comment………

  24. Robert Says:

Joe Jurevicius’ grab-and-go with a Brad Johnson pass for 71 yards to change the 2003 NFC Championship Game was the most important IMO

  25. Chris Says:

    Lord Cornelius ,

Did you even watch Mariota? He gutted out an injury Something Jamies couldn’t do and wined about it. He wines about losing a fumble one of 3 on that afternoon.

  26. Lord Cornelius Says:

    .and mariotta was not hurt”

Not on his f*cking throwing shoulder lol.

“and how many of crabbies yards were garbage yards when the game was already lost.”

Not many. His biggest passing yardage outputs were actually in the games the defense choked away late leads.

“heres a reason no one has signed demarco and delaine walker vs cam and oj”

Demarco Murray 3.6 YPC vs @ 2.9 YPC for Martin. That’s the point about comparing 2017 seasons. Barber (our only effective back) only got significant carries in a handful of games. In fact in the only 2 games he got 17+ carries we won 1 (Saints) and should have won the other (Greenbay) if the defense simply held the lead at the end.

Delanie Walker is still on the Titans and signed for 2018 after having another solid year…

“Corey Davis was terible as a rookie and matthews and decker wouldn’t see the field in Tampa with evans and djax. Godwin would start for them.”

Davis came on late. Taywan was solid. Matthews is at least as good as Godwin right now. Decker I’ll give. But either way it’s not some group of scrubs they have plenty to work with in Tennessee.

Lot of weird delusion in here.

  27. Jason Says:

Robert, you must be a racist fat man that is so gle

  28. Jason Says:

And probably divorced at least once

  29. Jjones Says:

Mariotta had a knee injury, Winston had a shoulder injury and played as long as he could. Both of their injuries affected their game but Jameis’ shoulder injury was a bit more serious because he couldn’t throw the ball as it got worse. Only comparison that is relatable is the fact they both had injuries but Mariottas allowed him to still throw the ball, there’s a big difference imo.

  30. AlteredEgo Says:

Jason…actually may be correct….while Ronde sealed the deal and I exploded out of my couch when the reality sunk in, all milli seconds, the Jurevicius play turned the tide as the Bucs stuck their foot in the field and claimed the game…

  31. 813bucboi Says:

as the leader on the #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!, this is music to my ears……

im glad everyone is hopping aboard the #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!! train…..

    no exuses….no passes….

    accountability….production….wins!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  32. AlteredEgo Says:

    Jason…Robert may/is correct

  33. Waterboy Says:

That Mariota debate is getting stupid. Tennessee relies heavily on their RB’s to win games for them. A solid running game is the best friend of a any QB especially a young one because it takes the pressure off of him and helps open up the passing game. Mariota’s main role is to hand the ball off. I watched them win a game a year ago where he had about 80 yds passing the entire game. There’s no way in heck Tampa would win a game where Winston passed for 80 yds.

  34. SCBucsFan Says:

I agree with the article 100%; this team goes as far as JW carries it… or where he drops it.

As for the Mariota fans, please go become Titan fans. They are underserved with trolls on that board as no one cares about the Titans. Cool stadium downtown though.

  35. Alan T Barlow Says:

Well, I heard a while back he was playing favorites with the WR & TE. IF, ‘IF’ that is/was true it needs to stop! IDK the validity of the chatter, maybe a disgruntled fan & hope it’s not true! Throw to the best open player without interceptions is all I ask! I know he try’s GoBucs

  36. StPeteBucsFan Says:

#3 will be fine this year because he’ll have to get less out of his game personally. Just cut down on the fumbles continue to make better decisions.

Having a running game will set our passing game free.. Our teams is going to be better next year.

I’m looking for three picks to make a major difference this year. Our #1 pick should make our entire DL better.

I also think RoJo is going to make a huge difference. Finally some breakaway speed in the backfield. His running will make #3’s passing that much more effective and vice versa. We could actually have a truly balanced offense this year.

The third pick I believe will be this year’s surprise treat..Carlton Davis. I think he could be a real sleeper. If he could tighten up the secondary and we get a pass rush and a running game we could be nasty in ’18.

  37. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

imo, both of there injuries effected their games equally…..we depend on winston’s arm….they depend on MM’s legs……Winston is a better passer….MM is a better runner….

no doubt up until this point the titans have had the better team…..I think we closed that gap if not pulled even with them….but MM has had better coaching IMO….they put MM in position to be successful where Winston is asked to do much more…..that’s coaching…..

with that said if these coaches allowed Winston to roll out, boot leg a little more folks would be shocked at how athletic he really is…..

“we” know Winston is better as a QB but unfortunately, it boils down to wins…..MM beat Winston head to head and already has a playoff win under his belt….I know what your thinking and I agree…..we probably could’ve made the playoffs in that division but it is what it is…..

ultimately, it comes down to SB rings!!!!!….if Winston gets his before MM, we’ll all rejoice….lol….if MM gets his before Winston, lord help us…lol…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  38. passthebuc Says:

Why is anyone comparing JW with MM. Both are average. JW never had the long ball accuracy even in college. Given he is a great rah rah guy, but so are the cheerleaders. Both MM and JW were drafted to be saviors and I do not see that happening. If you want to compare them, there are QB’s out there past and present with which to use as comparison.
We can win with JW just being a bit above average as long as he learns how to protect the ball. Having said that, he is never going to bring a super bowl with his talents. Deep ball below average, does not set up quick.. slow release and waits till the receivers are in open vs leading them into the open. I see JW capable of winning 5 games and the D winning 5 games.
I believe JW to be of below average in football accumn.

  39. Steven007 Says:

Falcons just extended Ryan for 100 million guaranteed…

  40. Jason Says:

Why compare the two QBS? Different teams, different styles or if play, different division? Is it that pathetic, that the two are compared because they were drafted 1 and 2. Besides progress, we all should look st our own little bed. Have we been laid off? Did we not get a job we wanted? Just because we idolize these athletes, it is not fair to compare. Do you as an an employee compare to other companies or your co-workers. The salaries the players make reflect the monetary value. Probably 90% of our jobs could be replaced with someone younger and more skilled

  41. Gman Says:

If we get rid of Jaboo, who would be left to eat W’s?

  42. AlteredEgo Says:

standard vs metric….apples vs oranges….Jameis vs Mariota ….coulda vs shoulda….I don’t think anyone brings up Maritoa’s name other than misguided Jameis defenders….Jameis is the Bucs QB….end of story….OMG !

  43. KfromFLA Says:

    This is a quote:
“The Bucs ranked 11th in Football Outsiders’ offensive DVOA—they had the ninth-best pass offense per that metric, by the way—and finished the year eighth in total yards per play (5.6), fourth in passing yards per game (272.9), and 18th in points per game (20.9).

The Buccaneers defense finished the season dead last in DVOA, yards allowed (378.1 per game), yards per play (6.0), sacks (22), sack rate (3.9 percent), pressure rate (24.8 percent), tackles for a loss (71), and third-down stop rate (48.1). Seriously, read that sentence again. But let’s not stop there: Tampa Bay also gave up 7.8 yards per pass attempt (29th), an opposing passer rating of 94.6 (tied for 26th), and a completion rate of 67.6 (29th).”

Still the “Jameis Winston Haters” will declare Winston the problem. These stats are not invisible; they are freely accessible online. But they are invisible to some trolling so-called Bucs fans with another agenda outside of honest evaluation of Jameis Winston’s performance.

You cannot win many games with the worst defense in the NFL, PERIOD. Thank goodness Licht knows that too.

  44. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Matt Ryan just got 5 years $150. $100 guaranteed. Holy cow

    “Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Matt Ryan just got 5 years $150. $100 guaranteed. Holy cow”…that does not bode well for Jameis if he does not step up …Bucs have already guaranteed his 5th year cheap….very interesting….hopefully 2 full year for Jameis…..cold…hard…brutal factual decisions looming….G’Boyz “may” not want to give that kind of guaranteed money after 5 years of question marks…..

  46. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

If we played against dorsett bortles and whoever Houston put out there after Watson went down instead of cam Brees and Ryan I think we could have made the playoffs last year too even with our horrible defense

  47. Jjones Says:

If Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer can win a SB so can Jameis Winston. JW is every bit as talented as those two.

No one here has a crystal ball so saying JW is “never going to bring a SB with his talents” would be nothing more than a lucky guess if it ever came true.

  48. Bird Says:

    Yup

Aaron Rodgers just exhaled a big puff of smoke. Means Rodgers be worth almost 35. He is the best and should be paid like it.

Tom Brady just shed one single tear cause the Pats only give him like 14-15 mil per year and he is in Super Bowl almost every year. No love there. He should boycott

  49. Bird Says:

    Uhhmmm

Nobody should want to play the jaguars. Whether bortles is on it or not.

  50. 813bucboi Says:

in other news….matty ice just got 100million guaranteed….lol….

    I know Winston is smiling!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  51. Defense Rules Says:

Tisk, tisk. Joe pens a GRRREAT article & y’all let a couple of trolls turn it into a JW vs MM debate. Really? That ship not only sailed, but it also sank a looong time ago.

Ronde Barber’s take on this season is spot on (plus it’s good to hear him admit he’s still a Bucs’ homer). His bottom line works for me … “The excuses are over for everybody. Right? And they need to win.” EVERYBODY … players & coaches … need to be accountable this year. No more excuses. Go Bucs !!!

  52. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @813

Yeah Mariota’s injuries have definitely hurt him as well. Just confused by anyone that’s a fan and actually thinks he’s been a much better QB than Winston or has had less to work with in terms of the team around him. It’s just simply wrong on every objective measurable level we can record; which makes it insane that you could call yourself a Bucs fan and have that position.

  53. Mike Johnson Says:

In a nutshell Joe, I say..AMEN..to the title of this article…exclamation point.

  54. cmurda Says:

    813. Exactly! Well said! The excuses truly are over. Heads will roll if we don’t at least turn in a winning season. If JW turns the corner with decision making and the O Line gives him time, we can be a scary team. I’ve been complaining for 5 years that we don’t get beat because of our QB or any skill position. We’ve been getting our rear ends kicked in the trenches. That’s why we lose and that’s why we lost the close games especially. I think Licht did a great job throughout FA and the draft focusing on both trenches. I really think this can propel us into a playoff team.

  55. Jjones Says:

Joe loves the comments no matter the subject.

  56. Jason Says:

Hey J Jones, did Tom Brady just win the last SuperBowl? I believe he is the best WB of all time snd didn’t win the SB. Are you insinuating that Foles is better than Tom Brady? Or open open your eyes that even though a QB is not he most valuable position it is a team game.

  57. Robert Says:

joe, try to calm jason down with the racist comments. there’s no need for it, nor someone’s personal status.

I can play that game, I just thought you might not want that…

  58. Reality_43 Says:

I think that is what J Jones was saying if I’m not mistaking.
NO ONE can possibly say JW will never win a SB.

  59. Jjones Says:

Jason, I never insinuated that any QB was better than another, I was commenting on passthebucs post. He said JW couldnt win a SB with his talent and i believe JW is just as talented as Johnson and Dilfer who have both won SB’s so I’m not sure what you’re trying to debate here.

  60. Robert Says:

passthebuc gets it. JW really would be better suited with pom pom

  62. Reality_43 Says:

    @ Robert

Did you seriously just ask Joe to ban someone after what you continue to write.
Are you a true Bucs fan or a troll?

Anyone AND EVERY analyst out there KNOWS JW is a better QB than Fitz, yet you continue to write smack.

    WHY?

He IS our QB so get on board and pull for the guy, because no matter what you think or say, Fitz isn’t gonna start unless JW is suspended, and even then Griffin might be QB#2.

Just like last year. I mean your boy was 3rd string before injuries.

  63. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

I share your pain…..lol….when folks say, “we should’ve draft MM” it makes me mad as hell because Winston is clearly the better QB…..he’s had less to work with and has had inferior coaching…..

unfortunately, the titans seem to know what their doing and what their trying to accomplish…..I like the fact that robinson told the former HC to change some staff members or hit the door…..that shows they strive for excellence and they hold folks accountable over there….if you aint doing your job hit the door…..they know their identity and have a simple formula…..run the ball and play great defense…..on occasion ask MM to make a few passes that are high completion throws…..have adore Jackson make an impact on ST…..

let me ask you LC, whats our identity?…..whats our formula to success?…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  64. OneBucPerson Says:

Jameis needs to start being more pointed in his pep talks, no more “Eatings Ws” cause that stuff was cringey as hell.

  65. Jjones Says:

Wow, Robert the tattle tail and self proclaimed genius. There have been no racist remarks on here you crybaby.

  66. Oneilbucs Says:

This is the problem with the media. They saying this is about quarter back but if your team sucks it doesn’t matter who is the quarter back. You are going to lose. Philly proved that last year with a second string quarter back in Nick Foles . They said it was over when wenz got hurt. Why can’t y’all see that ? With a running game n defense that’s how you win. Winston put this team in position to win a hole lot of games since he been in Tampa that’s why I don’t know about trash yards. Look at the body of work at this point. Put Winston in Jacksonville last year they go to the super bowl and everybody knows it even the NFL. So let’s just stand behind him. If he was white it will be difrent for Robert.

  67. 813bucboi Says:

    CMURDA

    whats good!!!!!

I agree…I think licht did a good job focusing on the trenches and I don’t think he’s done adding depth and talent…..

I hope your right…I hope it propels us to the playoffs….but idk…..

teams that had a winning record and made the playoffs still fired coaches because they were unsatisfied and are striving for a championship……we kept everyone and made hayes the scapegoat….lol…we’ll see how it turns out….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  70. Jjones Says:

  74. Robert Says:

just seeing if your paying attention

    so fitz wins 66%

    while
    JW wins 20 of 29…….

    Fitz wins, still a genius.

  75. Robert Says:

    JW wins 20 and loses 29 I mean….

    in the 40’s percentile

  76. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @813

IMO our identity should be scoring a ton of points via effective run & pass game and effective red zone execution; and playing good enough defense to keep leads / keep from giving up 3 TDs before halftime lol

    More aggressive pass rushing defense
    More aggressive scoring mentality

    ANd hopefully no Winston suspension

  77. Lamarcus Says:

    Ronde…..Duh

In other news. Losing a SB after a 28-3 lead and follow up with playoff choke gets you 100 million.

  78. Jjones Says:

Just seeing if we’re paying attention, sure buddy. That’s the telegraphed statement of a MORON.

  79. Bucnjim Says:

With age comes two things; experience and maturity. Winston has always had the physical tools as well as a great football IQ that does transform onto the playing field. Even now he is a very young man and his emotions get the best of him. He wants to win in such a bad way that forces plays that just shouldn’t be attempted and wouldn’t be by a seasoned vet. The good thing is he still has a huge ceiling and there is no way I’d take anyone over him because of those things. I’m not saying he will be great but I will bet he opts good for a very long time!

  80. SCBucsFan Says:

    Ryan Fitzpatrick career 48-70. That’s 40.1% Fitzpatric’s career number.

    Moron.

  81. Dewey Selmon Says:

We need to a defense to keep us close in games along with a running game for clock management(time of poss). Jamies needs to become a game manager and at times will need to carry us to victory on his arm alone.

  82. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Everybody knows JW is better , don’t feed the moronic and they will go away. Ronde’s play came late in the game when McNabb was inside the 10 and had they scored it would have swung mo entirely and Bucs probably lose , so that goes to the Barber of seville. The catch Jurevicius made in the end zone on Monday Night Football to open the following season when we whipped them 17-0 , now that may be one of the best of all time.

  83. Dave Pear Says:

    Robert,

I am not sure of a lot of things, but I am 100% sure that you are NOT a genius.

  84. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Hot damn, the simpletons in this comment section…

No doubt about it, like the majority of Bucs fans, the majority of JBF commenters are mentally deficient man-children with delusions of grandeur.

If you claim to be an intelligent observer of the game of football, and you honestly believe that Ryan Fitzpatrick should be the starter in 2018 over Jameis Winston, stop watching the game of football, find a new hobby. Perhaps coloring books are better suited to your intellect.

  85. Defense Rules Says:

813bucboi, you asked ‘What’s our identity? Our formula for success?’ Well Dewey just answered it for you …

“We need a defense to keep us close in games along with a running game for clock management(time of poss). Jameis needs to become a game manager and at times will need to carry us to victory on his arm alone.”

With our beefed up DLine, we’re now poised to hold the line late in games. With Barber & Jones running the ball (and yes, a periodic dose of Chuck Sims to keep folks off-balance), we SHOULD have an improved run game & increase our TOP at the same time. There may well be times when Jameis needs to put the team on his shoulders & bring us back late, but with our offensive weapons he SHOULD be able to move more into the game manager mode.

    Robert = new Tmax?

Except only for a delusional hatred of GMC it’s JW this time.

  87. AlteredEgo Says:

    BINGO !…DR….

  88. Bucnjim Says:

Jameis will never be content being a game manager but that fire is what I love about him. Once he matures the light switch will go on and he could be one of the best. Here is is going to be or is a dad! That will mature you in a matter of minutes so I am looking for great things this year.

  89. Bucnjim Says:

    Hear^^^^ sorry

  90. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

A lot of ignorant fans who don’t get how much talent Jameis has.
Look at the last 5 games of last season and see how many times Jameis put the team in a position to win. How many times did he give the team the lead, only to never step foot back on the field as the defense squandered it late?

He had a historically bad defense on almost every conceivable level. How many QBs have guided their teams to playoff seasons with defenses like the one the Bucs put on the field last season?

Jameis must get better and must cut down on mistakes. No one is arguing that. He just turned 24 this offseason. He has 3 years of experience under his belt. He will have a better ground game and an improved defense to support him.

    R-E-L-A-X
    And enjoy.

  91. Pickgrin Says:

Winston will shut up the few remaining nay-sayers this year!

You can’t correct stupid so why try?

Trolls have such a foothold here because posters engage their stupidity.

    Don’t feed the Trolls!!

  92. Rrsrq Says:

Dirk has to allow Jameis to be on the move, yeah be a pocket passer but not predictable. JW is an improviser. I expect him to get back to the basics and we will see that Jameis who he was that first year at FSU, taking what the defense gives you, including smart running when necessary

  93. BucEmUp Says:

No….thats the problem. Jameis doesn’t need to feel like he can carry the team, instead he needs to feel like the defense will have his back for once.

When the defense starts performing well Jameis will be able to.manage the offense knowing he can live to play another down. Since he was drafted he knows if he doesn’t make it happen the defense won’t help.

Just because the picks and players they need are here means nothing. Now it’s up to Mike Smith to make this defense at least average to help Jameis win the game and not feel forced to make bad decisions when he has no other option!!!!!

  94. BucEmUp Says:

And YESSSSSSS LET JAMEIS RUN!!!! ASIDE FROM ARE ON RODGERS HE IS THE MOST ACCURATE PASSER OUTSIDE THE POCKET!!!!

ZERO EXCUSES FOR MAKING HIM PLAY OUTSIDE HIS STRENGTHS!!!

  95. Not there yet Says:

I think it’s now or never for the older crowd who enjoyed the Derrick Brooks years. If you can’t win with roster how can fans trust anything this team does next year. All the negatives about Winston would be validated and koetter would be looking for a job if they have a bad year again

  96. Destinjohnny Says:

    Consistency….
If he solves that look out

  97. Trench War Says:

I totally agree, Time for Winston to step up in a big way. He needs this, and we need this.

  98. Dave Says:

    JOE-

Can there be automatic 1 month ban for anyone who writes shout how we should have taken Marriotta?

    Please!?

  99. Bucbob89 Says:

jamies is young ..to let him walk after being so productive what are your options?? a top 3 pick ?? its just not happening he is not the problem at all . kotter needs to play to jamies strength… but to do that we gotta run the ball (#texastesla ) to allow the play action to work defense has to believe your gunna run the ball the running game was bottom of the barrel at best ..thats y jamies has to force it into coverage witch leads to picks or making somthing out of nothing with his feet because nobody was fooled by play action .. jones will help

  100. BigHogHaynes Says:

I said it last year…. JW would be the next scapegoat.

  101. Duke Says:

    Bucboi,

I don’t know if I’d say MM has had better coaching. I can say without a doubt He’s had more. 4 different O.C.’s and 3 Head Coaches to date. I’m surprised that no one has labeled him coach killa.

JW saves Jobs……… his opponent is a jobs killer..

  102. RED DON Says:

The division is TOO TOUGH and the Bucs are way too soft. I’m pulling for them but they probably miss the playoffs again this year. We suck, just admit it.
