Does Jameis Want A RB?

March 29th, 2017

I will talk to Jason Licht for you about getting Dalvin Cook. Jason is probably sick of you texting him 20 times a day burning up his data limit.”

Interesting words from the man who coached America’s Quarterback in college.

As one can expect, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston keeps in contact with Jimbo Fisher, his former college coach and a man Jameis once referred to on NFL Network as his “football daddy.”

Fisher, talking to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times from Florida State’s pro day yesterday, didn’t exactly mince words when he said Jameis would like to hand the ball off to Dalvin Cook once again. But it was what Fisher said in the same conversation that got Joe’s attention.

“I think he’s wanting a back,” Fisher said after the pro day. “It would be great. I know they’d love to play with Dalvin, but at the same time, they’ve got to get what they’ve got to get. He was happy they got another receiver [DeSean Jackson] to take the top off the defense … It’s good to have (Cook) here locally so a lot of our fans can see him play in pro football. That doesn’t happen a lot.”

Look, you know the Bucs need a running back; Joe knows they need a running back, and it appears Jameis knows as well.

Could Jameis be lobbying Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to snare Cook, or is it this guy?

The Bucs have ONE glaring need and it is at running back.
It would be fantastic if the Bucs got Dalvin Cook.

  2. TrollSlayer Says:

ugh i like cook and the potential 1st round RBs(fournette, mccaffrey) but i feel the 1st round has elite weapons at other positions that are just too good to pass up next to a RB that has an extremely deep class in the draft i mean we could just as easily find a grinder in round 4 this year and too many elite players at other positions in the 1st round that would be too good to pass up

Y’all gone see the true power of Jameis WINSton come draft night. 19??? What that suppose to mean???

    See what I did there?!

  6. gotbbucs Says:

Last time I checked, Jameis was the QB, not the GM or Head Coach.

If he’s there at 19 then that’s one thing, I can live with drafting a good 1st round RB if he comes to you in the draft. What I won’t be able to stomach is spending draft capital in an insanely deep draft to move up for him.
Trading next year’s picks to navigate through this draft I have no problem with so long as it isn’t a future 1st round pick, but still, I’m not trading up in a 1st round for a RB.

  7. BadHombre Says:

If McCaffery or Cook is there at 19 take him. Otherwise look for OT or DE IMHO

Sorry, I’m all onboard the Chip McCaff bandwagon.

  10. R.O. Says:

Agree.. Let the Draft come to you. If he’s there at 19 and Howard and Njoku thats a tough choice. But Cook at 19 is a higher value than a TE. IF we could walk away with McCaferry and Njoku with our 2 first picks I would be happy with that as well.

  11. 813bucboi Says:

idk…last time is saw jameis and cook together in the same backfield, it didn’t end well…..MM made both of them look silly….think it was 3 or 4 fumbles…a pick or 2….fsu players have nothing to do with revenue….its all about wins…”W”….that is what generates revenue…..winning is bigger than a certain player and the college he attends…..win a playoff game this year without cook as a bucs and no one will be crying we should’ve drafted cook…GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. ZZBucs!!! Says:

agree 100% gotbbucs!!!! PLayers play….they do not coach and the do not Manage….. Sometimes sports get ridiculous……If we keep on this path, coaches will be irrelevant at some point!!!!! I love old school sports …….

Pretty obvious that Jameis has given up on him

So you wouldn’t be happy if the Bucs got to the NFC championship game???

It’s not like Jameis/Cook plunged FSU into the bottom of the ACC. C’mon, man!

  18. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Joe his head remains a little foggy. We been pounding they @$$ so be clearly not thinking str8. Dude might need to be placed in the concussion protocal. Simps ride other teams coattails. Talk how they faired against your gaytors. Oh that’s easy neither ever lost to your gaytors.

  19. Eric Says:

I still don’t get the McCaffrey voice. Yes he’s an excellent player and I’d love to have him, BUT WE HAVE ONE ALREADY IN SIMS.

We don’t need McCaffrey and Sims. Koetter loves Sims and I know how good he is. McCaffrey is not a between the tackles back. That’s what we need. It’s not happening. Period

  20. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

See 813 I get it, you bitter and somewhat frustrated by what could’ve been had he went to UF. Its cool dude you’ll one-day get over it. “He’s special,we need him”- Vernon Heargreaves III. Sounds like he already has.

  21. Joe Says:

BUT WE HAVE ONE ALREADY IN SIMS.

Don’t disagree, however, we don’t know if the Bucs want to turn the page on Sims. Koetter loves him but the guy can’t stay healthy and he is a substandard runner.

    Matt Forte? Joe’s @ss!!!

  22. jthv Says:

The Good News? At the end of April we will have 3 of the Draft’s best 84 players … The Bad News? We have to shovel through so much manure until then.

Great point Eric, and one that’s rarely brought up. A year ago not many people we’re asking for a RB, whether a scat/3rd Down Back (Sims) or a Bellcow (Martin) after the 2 combined to have the NFL’s #2 backfield. I can understand the ease in which many are willing to give up on Martin (myself included for Cook only) but to suggest Sims needs to be replaced is shortsighted. He’s been oft-injured yes but when he’s healthy he comes out of the backfield better than most RB’s in the league. AND let’s not forget what he did to about 8 players from ATL’s defense last year in Week 1. The guy isn’t a bust, he just needs to stay healthy and one could suggest his injury last season was due to him being asked to do something that he can’t, be the Bellcow.

  23. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Well the quote off to the side of the article is much more interesting than the one you referenced inside the article. If that is an accurate quote then I guess Jameis is lobbying hard for Cook. The quote in the article is just cliche stuff that doesn’t mean much of anything.

As for the guys say the draft is deep at RB and we could get a good one in the 4th round. I call BS. The chances of a guy falling all the way to 4th round and being better than a 1st rounder I not likely at all. I know there are examples out there but they are few and far between. If you take a RB in the 4th there is a very real chance he will never even see the field. Experts with much more knowledge than think 66 to 96 players should be drafted in between Cook and some random RB in the 4th round. I would trust they know what they’re talking about and there is a huge drop off in talent if you wait until the 4th round.

  24. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

School’em Touchdown. Pete been saying is much for weeks. But I think I know why 813 mad. UF and FSU had they’re prodays yesterday. Spytek and Kiefer were present at FSU’s. Things that make you go hmmm..

  25. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Bucs might’ve sent a ball boy to go check out that LB you campaigning for. He might’ve left seeing them CBs run them slow @$$ 40s tho.

  26. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Looking at that pic Jameis reponse “thanks dad☺”.

  27. Eric Says:

Sims had a rough year last year. He definitely had a very very good year the year before.

He led the league in completion percentage for a rb. He was also up there in broken tackles and yac. I have full confidence in him as receiving back/check down threat. The issue is our bellcow like you mentioned. I have faith in doug and im willing to bet he comes back if we don’t draft a rb in round 1.

Joe, I don’t think we will move on from sims. I hear nothing but great things from our brass about him. It’s just an issue if quiz and our #1 go down whomever it may be.

  28. PRBucFan Says:

Nothing left to be said at the point

Just the same people looking for different ways to word the same things on every cook thread lol

  29. Eric Says:

4th round for a rb is a reach but third round is the money round for rbs. Just look:

Jamaal Charles, Demarco Murray, Frank Gore, David Johnson, Tevin Coleman, Cj Prosise, etc

  30. JimBuc2 Says:

Please, grow a brain. The opposing QB can’t do damage if he’s laying prostrate in the grass wondering why he chose this profession. We need a beast of a pass rusher, and no, I don’t see one on our excellent roster. Get Peppers. “I love quarterbacks eatin’ dirt, PomPoms and short skirts.” Yeah, NAILED IT!

  31. Blake_bucsfan Says:

idk…last time is saw jameis and cook together in the same backfield, it didn’t end well…..MM made both of them look silly…”

lol wtf. Like MM was playing defense. What a ridiculously stupid statement.

Since you’re going to got here – Jameis Winston outplayed MM in that game.. Go break down the film play by play. I think there are even youtube videos that did this to show that Winston played at a higher level and did a lot more than MM had to do. Go look it up and don’t give me the box score.

FSU lost because they sh1t the bed everywhere besides QB. Winston was consistently moving the team down the field that game but they lost because they had 5 turnovers; of which only 1 was actually Winston’s fault; and was on a desperation 4th down play where he had no protection (the fumble). The game was already lost before that. His one interception hit his WR in both hands. THe MM interception on the other hand; was terrible and right before the half when the game was close. He’s just lucky Aguayo missed the FG lol.

MM has a losing record in close games. Both in college and now the NFL.

He’s 7-9 in 1 score games. And when i charted a lot of these he was in great position to win the gamee.

Winston is 12-8 in 1 score games. And a lot of those losses were not on him at all.. Think WAS collapse and Lovie going into run / punt mode. Think of the Dallas game and how he had no RT essentially and no chance to do sh1t on that drive. I’d say the only couple games he really didn’t do enough when he should have were the Rams drive at the end of the game and the Oakland overtime that never ended. Meanwhile; I found like 4 games just from MM’s 2015 season where he sh1t the bed when given a solid opportunity to win the game

I charted these specific drives in past posts so I’m not doing all the legwork again.

I’m excited to see what version of Dirk Tomsula expert analysis we will get for 2017 from you lol 😉

  39. JimBuc2 Says:

A ‘saftey’ from the Ronde Barber’ mold would be a great addition

  40. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Collins was a linebacker, and they didnt want to over pay Jones. Not because belichick doesnt value pass rushers.

  41. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Oh and for all this “what Jameis wants Jameis gets” chatter, Jameis lobbied for Aguayo too…

  42. Joeypoppems Says:

“The chances of a guy falling all the way to 4th round and being better than a 1st rounder I not likely at all.”

Obviously lol. If there was a good chance a guy projected in the 4th round will be better than a 1st rounder, then that guy wont make it to the 4th round.

The point is that RBs in this year’s draft that have round 3-4 grades on them are good enough to be starters. Not all of them, but some. I wouldn’t say Kareem Hunt will be better than Cook, but I will say that Kareem Hunt will be a good starting RB. Isn’t that what we want?

  43. Buc1987 Says:

TrollSlayer….yet some say he might not even make it to 19. I say if he does, they better jump on it and fast.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

    “Jameis lobbied for Aguayo too…”

    And?

  45. Blake_bucsfan Says:

And we all know how that is shaping up.

“Players play, Coaches Coach.” – Dirk Koetter

  47. BigHogHaynes Says:

I don’t think DC will be there at 19 and please don’t trade up to get him…just take MIXON in the 3rd if he’s there, MIXON has a lot more upside !!

  49. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

  52. 813bucboi Says:

@nole….jay hayes was at UF pro day….they don’t send a coach to a pro day for nothing…..he missed the game last year and had 9 tackles the year before…coaches were at texas pro day checking out foreman and tyrone swoops-te…..actual coaches….lol….

@joe….if they got there and created 5 turnovers I would be pissed….wouldn’t you?

@lord c…..who won the game?…I believe MM did….and what were the titans record at the end of the season?….same as our….and MM missed a game….I love Winston, but you make yourself sound dumb talking about stats when all that counts is wins and loses….by the way, MM outplayed Winston their rookie year…..GO BUCS!!!!

  55. bucs_365 Says:

Marlon Mack in round 3 is better bang for the buck than Cook.

  56. tnew Says:

comparing Simms to McCafferey is like comparing Doug Martin to Ezekiel Elliot, or Mason Foster to Luke Keuchly or Cadillac Williams to Adrian Peterson. wait yeh, the Bucs already did that.

  57. chipbuc Says:

I don’t get all the talk of Sims being just as good as McCaffrey. Based on what? While they have similar attributes their talent level is not. Just look at their college careers not even close. McCaffrey was a Heisman Trophy finalist, he broke Barry Sanders all purpose yards record, he’ just more talented. He’s a serious upgrade over Sims. Besides if i see Sims dancing at the line of scrimmage one more time i will scream.

  58. Duke Says:

    BigHogHaynes,

I agree with your suggestions ‘re: Mixon. Love it in fact

There’s plenty of comments from Nfl scouts that place Him #1 among all available RB’s talent wise and projection into the pro game. Obviously His stock has been devalued by the incident in his past and it means nobody is considering Him in the early rounds.

A premium RB with a discount price tag. Take 2 please.

  59. 813bucboi Says:

@nole….who said anything about 5 fumbles…..5 turnovers yeah ive seen that before in high school, college and the pros…the better team won in cali that day….but that’s in the past….

on to the future….that rb from texas 6’1 235 ran a 4.4. just like your boy….bucs reps went to go see him too…..no need for cook…GO BUCS!!!!

  60. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Five fumbles are what occurred in that game. I can’t speak for you but it was obvious to me. As far the punch out king gose when he recieves a public endorsement from anyone in Bucville I might take that notion slightly serious until then I’ll take it as about as serious as I would take drafting a LB with our first pick. Like a grain of salt homie.
Sidenote: don’t change your opinion because people have spoken out against it making any sense to them. If you feel a LB would be best for this team be a man and standby that. Don’t go all punch out king now. I’ve been ridin wit Dalvin since day 1. And haven’t began to give a s@$! about how anyone on here feels about it.

  65. 813bucboi Says:

well I guess I stand corrected regarding the TO in that game….I know Winston throw a pick so that would make it 6TO’s…even worse….

ive been banging the drum for both davis and foreman from the jump….I haven’t shaken one bit….

jay hayes was at UF’s pro day working out c. Brantley and j.davis…there’s pictures from seccountry if you don’t believe me..

as far as foreman and swoops goes, the daily Texans and longhorn nation only states bucs reps were there…..along with 31 other teams….they wanted to see the doak walker award winner(nations top rb) in person…and he didn’t let them down….GO BUCS!!!!

  66. Pickgrin Says:

If Cook is there at 19- awesome – glory halleluia. Pick him and be grateful.

But the odds of Cook lasting till 19 are very slim and I do NOT want to see us spend any draft picks to move up for him. This from an FSU fan who knows full well what Dalvin is capable of. I would be on board with trading a 4th rounder to move up for Cook at 17 but that’s it.

If we want to go high end back – then McCaffrey is more likely than not to be there for us at 19. I’d rather have McCaffrey AND a player like Zay Jones in the 2nd than spend a 1st and 2nd to move up to 12 and try to get Cook which is what its going to take – maybe even more. Prepare to be heartbroken NOS BOS. Its not what I want ideally – but you have to play the cards you are dealt and reality says it is not in the cards for the Bucs to try and draft Cook. He will be too expensive for our draft position. Especially with all the other RB talent in this draft.

Hope I’m wrong because Dalvin Cook and Jameis Winston in the same backfield would scare the hell out of any sane DC. I just don’t want us to over pay to achieve that. We still have too many other needs and this draft is full of great prospects that meet those needs (Safety, WR, TE, DL etc).

There will be great value this year at RB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Hunt, Perine, Mack and perhaps even Mixon may all be available in the 3rd round.

  70. Joe Says:

I don’t get all the talk of Sims being just as good as McCaffrey.

    Agreed!

  71. Joeypoppems Says:

Idk how I feel about McCaffrey anymore. He is a perfect fit as far as intangibles are concerned. On the flip side, I kind of get the same feeling with McCaffrey that I get with guys like Perine and Marlon Mack. He might be most effective in a committee.

And to be clear there is absolutely nothing wrong with the committee approach to RBs but if Koetter is looking for a feature back imo guys like Perine, Mack, McCaffrey, Jeremy McNichols aren’t the right fit for that role.

  73. Buccaneers Says:

You dont get a RB in the 1st round unless you think hes something special. If Licht doesnt think hes special he wont be picking RB for sure. They might think the TE from Miami is a rare talent and our offemse has looked awesome when we get explosive plays from TE.

Cant complian much about any 1st Round pick Licht has made. I expect Evans to continue on, Winston and Hargraeves to improve and I expect this year selection to make some big plays.

Too Many to count…How many games has he missed in 3 years?? Maybe 1 that I can recall, heck he even had the guts to actually play in his final game, unlike some other back named above…hugh, not bad for a RB with injury concerns…Anyone who doesn’t think Dalvin is the most accomplished back in this class needs to lay off the pipe…IF Cook is there at 19 there’s no way we pass on him period, Amen

    Ha ha ha ha Classic!

I LOOOOOOOOOVE Jameis Winston and I’m a 46 yr old white male with 2 kids living in Trashco (Pasco) County. Transplanted from the Baaahston area(yet heavily conservative) by my mother at 16 in 1986 and hated it ever since. The only good thing about this area is my beloved Bucs and the family that calls Pasco home.

Do I love me some Noles FB? Hell to the yes I do.

Am I NOSBOS? That’s too funny. He’s trying his best with Cook, but that debate is not even close to the Winston debates. Anyone that came to JBF after missing that whole run down. That started like 9 months before the draft up in HERE!

NOS and Blake battling it out daily over Dalvin or Buc1987 versus the world over Jameis Winston? Sorry but my battles were EPIC. Yes I had no life back then. Not much of one now either. lol Did I mention I live in Pasco County?

I took on everyone. Yet I haven’t even met this boy wonder. Did LOTS of research though. He passed the eye test for me long, long before the Bucs had that number 1 pick. I think EVEN before Joe started his “Jameis Watch”.

NOS thinks he’s pretty. He’s more entertaining for me, because I like Cook. I like NOS too, and he knows that. This (JBF) is my online home. NOS is entertainment for me in my online home. He AIN’T no Buc1987 though that’s for DAYUM shore.

The exact model toilet of which i had to schlep 64 up to the 2nd and 3rd floor of the alf (assissted living facility) that i’m helping to build. 2 trips per toilet as the tank and bowl are boxed seperately.

    Ya filthy bum.

So apparently you’ve never heard of a smart phone. Not surprising in the least bit. Also not surpising that you’re incapable of spelling the word plumber.

LOL let me just clarify that I am not saying Sims is as good as McCaffrey. I’m pretty sure I never said that and I didn’t read it anywhere in this thread.

What I meant was that Sims and McCaffrey have the same skill set. You guys are talking about upgrading one position which isn’t a three down back for a small margin in ability. Also that is heresy at this point. It’s all opinionated. No doubt McCaffrey will be solid in the NFL but Sims has already proven he can be very good. If you don’t think he was in 2015 in his role suitable for him, you weren’t watching. McCaffrey hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet and although it’s unlikely, he could totally bust.

I’m sorry I would much rather use a first round pick for a position of greater need than a slight upgrade at a scat back/receiver rb role. He is not a three down back and you want to upgrade slightly at our #2 comp back role rather than address wr, s, or even de. I disagree big time and I could nearly guarantee at this point WE WILL NOT TAKE MCCAFFREY. Nobody said he wasn’t better than sims either.

I get the CM fan boys. I like the guy too but if you’re truly looking out for the best interest of this team, you go the huge improvement at a position of need route rather than the slight upgrade route.
