Tied For 12th In Sacks

October 7th, 2016
Improvement?

Improvement?

There’s a big difference between a consistent pass rush and sack totals.

Bucs fans paying attention have known that for years.

The Bucs don’t possess a consistent, aka dangerous, rush. But they have dropped their share of quarterbacks this season.

Nine sacks through four games ranks Tampa Bay 12th in the NFL, in a tie with the Ravens, Panthers, Bengals, Lions and Chargers. That’s not too bad, considering teams haven’t thrown too much against the Bucs. That’s largely due to Tampa Bay trailing significantly during their last three games.

The Bucs dropped Cam Newton to the turf four times during Carolina’s blowout win in last year’s season finale. But Newton is always a challenge to bring down, and his status for Monday night remains very unclear.

Back in 2014, Carolina backup Derrick Anderson, a former Pro Bowler, was sacked four times by the Bucs in his two victories — two! — against the Bucs. When he last beat Tampa Bay in December 2014, the Bucs sacked him three times with 2 1/2 of those coming from linebackers Lavonte David and Danny Lansanah.

If it is Anderson on Monday night, Joe suspects Mike Smith will go for broke and blitz Anderson repeatedly. With the season on the line, it’s probably a good idea.

D-line Coach is the truth! You can see improvement in the line. This Bum Mike Smith, was too scared to blitz a rookie in his first game.

We can finally get our revenge on Derek Anderson….

  3. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

I like our odds of pulling off the upset Mon. My money is on the Boyz from da Bay. Get em Bucs. Let’s punish Derek Anderson a little bit.

  4. Negative Jeff Says:

Derek Anderson is a better pure passer than Newton. Our D-Line scares no one, even with McCoy, so I see this as an easy win for the cats. Panthers 27 Bucs 17 Anderson throws for 3 TD’s and 275 yards. No picks and 1 sack. Everyone in Bucland will be done with this team by 9:30PM on Monday.

Bucs have a change with the cancer 93 not playing. hopefully it’s not too late to save lvd from the mccoy infection…

Time to turn the season around

  7. Pickgrin Says:

Finding a way to get consistent pressure on the Panther’s QB is the path to victory Monday night.

If it’s Anderson – we need to get him off his spot by whatever means necessary. If it’s Cam – we need to get pressure and make him uncomfortable – but also maintain gap discipline and keep him contained.

  8. Buns Collector Says:

I’d rather play Cam than Derek Anderson. We’re going to lose either way, but getting carved up by another backup makes it much more depressing.

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

Gotta roll your way there NegativeJeff. In order for us to win, We need..all hands on deck and then some like a..great game from the chosen one..Mr Winston. We will miss both McCoy and Martin greatly. Derek Anderson salivates..at the thought od playing the Bucs. He has always looked like..all world when playing us. Panthers 27-Bucs 17. On any given Sunday? Sure. But don’t see it happening in Charlotte, NC.

Two CRAPPY 1-3 teams playing Primetime ( Monday Night Football) is a DISGRACE to the NFL.

  14. Fred E. Buc Says:

Lots of folks here remember the Bucs dropping two to Derek Anderson but they forget or ignore other factors. In 2014, Josh McCown had two INTs and Rainey fumbled. Bucs lost 20-14, season opener at home, Lovie’s first game as HC. The Bucs had one sack all day. In the second matchup, again, two INTs and a fumble lost by McCown. In each game, McCown could not throw due to pressure up front from the Panthers; Bucs lost that one 19-17. They had no O line to speak of other than Mankins and Dotson. In both games McCown threw for well less than 200 yards. This game, the Panthers are out their top running threat and key O line personnel. The Bucs are out McCoy but will have Ayers back. Even with the INTs, Jameis is still a much better playmaker than McCown, and Evans is much improved. J. Rodgers is going to have to hold his own at running, but blocking Stocker is also likely back. If Jameis can clean up his turnovers even a little bit here and put moderate pressure on Anderson, they can very well win it. Derek Anderson played better than McCown and well enough to win in 2014, but they didn’t blow a very bad Bucs defense out.

  15. Fred E. Buc Says:

Bottom Line: Two close games lost by Bucs in 2014 to Derek Anderson with Josh McCown at QB and no Bucs OC (remember the Jeff Tedford saga?). Bucs had no O line or passing game. Bucs cool down on the picks while pressuring Anderson they should be okay.

  16. Pawel Says:

Really it’s been Olsen that beat us badly everytime.

  17. JonBuc Says:

No Cam, Stewart or Oher ( possibly on all 3)…no problem! Carolina by 14. I can’t remember the last time Bucs won in Carolina ( will look it up now that I think of it ). I want to say the season they tanked for Cam to be taken # 1.

  18. Tampa Bay Tailgater Says:

I agree with Strider…time to turn the season around with just one win and a bye to get healthy. I feel like we all have been saying it for the last two weeks but this is a MUST win to ease draft talk and stop the bleeding…we can build it from there.

I feel like the running game is going to show up for the Bucs this week believe it or not. Go Bucs.

  19. BigHogHaynes Says:

LOVIE’S gone, now it’s McCoys fault, that coming from a guy who’s always talking about an AGENDA!!! Let me say this in plain English, #93 is “OUR” best D-Lineman! SIMPLE AS THAT!

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Man, that whole season with Lovie and McClown SU$$ED! McClown cost us 3-4 games cos of incompetence and bad play calling. This 2016 team is much better. Matthew is done here so I can listen to the ballgame Monday. Yeay! GO BUCS!!

  21. BigHogHaynes Says:

BETTER, BETTER WHERE, NOT HERE! Monday nite the STAGE will be set! What you gonna do when all of AMERICA is looking at you! Come out strong and play with the will to win the game, STEP THE F*CK UP!
