Signs Point To Rodgers Rampage

October 26th, 2016
Jacquizz Rodgers is the centerpiece of Dirk Koetter's new focus.

Numbers suggest more carries.

Dirk Koetter, a guy who likes to throw the ball, did an incredible job of channeling his inner-Chuck Knox.

Knox was a very successful NFL head coach known as “Ground Chuck”  for his deep love of running the ball. In the past two games, Koetter has put his heart aside and called for run after run after run — with a guy off the street by the name of Jacquizz Rodgers of all people.

So far, so good. Rodgers has morphed into a sort of Ricky Williams, running for 255 yards on 56 carries for an average of 4.5 a rush in those two games, both Bucs wins.

Thoughtful Evan Silva of Rotoworld.com ran the numbers and is of the mind Sunday could be another big day for Rodgers.

@evansilva – Jacquizz Rodgers has 35 & 27 touches through 2 starts. Week 8 opponent #Raiders are allowing 5.09 YPC to opposing RBs.

Not to be “that guy,” but NFL.com, BSPN and Pro Football Reference each has Rodgers with 56 carries the past two games. Regardless, this is starting to smell like the 49ers game, in the sense that San Francisco couldn’t stop a cool breeze on the ground. So the Bucs attacked them on the ground. The results spoke for themselves.

Look for another healthy dose of the Bucs feeding Rodgers the rock.

  1. Defense Rules Says:

Let’s see, Raiders are 5-2 and Bucs are 3-3. Bucs record at home has been ‘spotty’ at best (OK, abysmal fits better). Not sure that this game is “starting to smell like the 49ers game” in any sense. There are no gimmies in the NFL.

  2. Lou. Says:

Not to be “that guy,” but the article is apparently including catches, not just rushes, in its totals.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

Koetter did alot of years run first with Maurice drew at jac with delrio as HC

Going to have to be balanced attack

Remedy is shep for +40 snaps – dr kobe

Erections will last for over 4 hours sunday

    D.R.

Totally agree that no game in the NFL is a gimmee and we know the Bucs have a way of mucking up gimmee games anyway.

I look forward to Sunday. I think Quizz will go off again because the Raiders are last in the league in defense and like the niners have a porous run defense.

But can we stop Carr? Vegas opened with both teams -1…so it’s a pickem game and this time I truly agree with Vegas.

  5. Dick Butkiss Says:

Raiders will struggle in this game. We are finally generating pressure with GMC back in the lineup and only rushing 4. Our secondary is starting to grow as a group and learn each other’s chemistry. West Coast team traveling to Tampa, the ability of Quiz running strong and Jameis to Evans for a few TD will make it a long day for Oakland.

  6. PanthersSuck! Says:

We win this game by controlling the clock. Keep the Raiders offense off the feild. Grind and dunk.

  7. BigPoppaBuc Says:

We’ll only be able to run if the defense shows up. The Raiders have two very good receivers. Carr is probably being coached to attack VH3 early and often. I’ve been looking forward to this game all season… Just because I feel both teams are kind of similar and a home win against these guys would be huuuuge.

  8. tdtb2015 Says:

Ayers and no int or fumble from JW will bring us a Win.

This game could be a door opener for fans to see our Bucs as a solid middle of the pack team in the NFL.

The beginning of the end of the DEN OF DEPRESSION is about to be born!

    Thank God!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I thought Martin’s setback was only an extra week? What did I miss????

  10. phreakybucfan Says:

For the last couple of years I keep reading about the Raiders being one year ahead of us in the rebuilding process. I think this game will really show exactly where we are as a football team.

  11. Joe Says:

I thought Martin’s setback was only an extra week? What did I miss????

One week? That’s news to Joe.

Hamstrings are weird. There is no timetable for Martin’s return. Could be a week, could be six weeks. No telling.

Given how Jacquizz Rodgers had run, Joe is going to safely assume the Bucs will not in any way rush Martin back. So long as Rodgers keeps this production up, Martin will only return to the lineup when he is fully healthy.

  12. R.O. Says:

Yesterday you said they were a good team. Now JR is going to ravage them. Maybe check your facts before posting.

What check? They are a good team. They’re 5-2. Joe talked about how the Raiders’ defense is underrated within a discussion with Ira Kaufman. –Joe

  13. RumRunner Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the Raiders ushered in the Era of the “den of depression” with that comeback win in 2008. It would only be appropriate if we ended a Era this Sunday with a W at RayJay!!!!
    GO BUCS!!! FIRE THEM CANNONS!!!

  14. John Says:

If the Bucs can win on Sunday vs the Raiders @Joe what a big game Thursday night will be huh! Go Bucs

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

We have plenty of options at rb. Like to see more screens to quizz and ant smith

Both quizz and ant smith are clones of dougie..im looking forward to dims back in the mix later catching balls and making explosive plays after catch

With shep on the other side, brate, hump and our pass catching rbs will have huge holes in the middle to hurt and spreadout the defenses

Hey koetter, run 6 times quizz with success then 4 and short have barber come in cold?

  16. Joe Says:

Raiders ushered in the Era of the “den of depression”

Sort of. JaMarcus Russell beat the Bucs to end the 2008 season, and Chucky’s coaching days (no, Joe does not expect Chucky to ever coach in the NFL again, not that he’s not good but life too easy now).

  17. 813bucboi Says:

I hope dirk will continue to run the ball….defense will be tested…db’s have to be on top of their game….28-24 bucs…..GO BUCS!!!

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Keep playing Rodgers. Teams are not prepared for his low gravity. Hell, I’d rotate all of the backs including Martin. But we have been winning with Rodgers. Why F…up a good thing?

  19. R.O. Says:

Hard to be “underrated” when you’re last..

  20. orlbucfan Says:

I recall listening to the Bucs-Raiders 1999 game. That’s where we got absolutely killed 45-0 in Oakland. Man, do we owe them a huge wipeout here in Tampa. It should be a match of 2 very good offensive minded coaches. Dirk, you know how to match wits with JDR. We need to start winning at home. Why not next Sunday? Go Mighty Bucs and Slaughter the Raiders!!!!!

  21. Brandon Says:

@evansilva – Jacquizz Rodgers has 35 & 27 touches through 2 starts. Week 8 opponent #Raiders are allowing 5.09 YPC to opposing RBs.

Not to be “that guy,” but NFL.com, BSPN and Pro Football Reference each has Rodgers with 56 carries the past two games.

    —————-

The key here, Joe, is that Silva said “touches”…not “carries.” So he has 62 combined touches and 56 carries.

  22. "That guy" Says:

Joe, you can’t be “that guy” because “that guy” is me. And Bucs will run for 175 on Sunday and 2 TD’s.
