Jameis Needs Doug Martin

Doug Martin the key to Jameis’ success, says theMMQB.com.

When Joe thinks of how a quarterback can be successful, Joe immediately thinks of the offensive line.

But with America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, that may not be the case, claims Andy Benoit of theMMQB.com. Benoit did a 10-point breakdown of Tampa Bay. There, he explains that Jameis’ best friend is running back Doug Martin.

If you’re going to have this sort of vertical passing game, you need a strong running game. The majority of deep routes come out of running formations. Running formations set up the type of elongated play-action that impacts safeties—the defender you must beat in order to go deep. They also put the extra tight ends and fullbacks in place to help the offensive line hold up longer in pass protection. Last season the Bucs played base personnel (2 RB, 1 TE or 1 RB, 2 TE) with regularity, and according to Football Outsiders, they even put six offensive linemen on the field more than any team except Washington. Expect this to continue.

And the engine that drives the rushing train for the Bucs? Of course, that is Doug Martin.

Yes, a good running game will keep a defense honest. That’s an age-old proverb of football and it is still true. But to read Benoit, the rushing game is critical for the Bucs because the offense, in part because of a void of speedy receivers, needs time for routes to develop downfield.

MJD won a rushing title with DK as OC in JAX. Watch Double Duece do it in Tampa!

Been saying this awhile now. Elite QB play,a top ten running game along with consistency from your pass rush. Superbowl formula. All those others positions i.e Corners and Recievers, hmh my opinion anyone can fill those roles.

Joe, did you help Benoit write point #4? I know that we’ve pounded that point here but, it sure seems like an obvious oversight; not drafting a WR! Well in the 2nd round we got our perfect kicker for the next 18 years?!?!

Guess receiver the new flavor of the month.. Two season’s ago y’all wailed over O line. Last season you cried for a DE. Now the sky falling for a WR. When two years ago they both caught for over thousand yards each. Hilarious.

Absolutely the running game protected JW3 last year. and will this year!!! Last year even when they were down over double digits they were still running the ball around 50%!!!! There were a game or 2 where OC Koetter opened the pass but then they reeled back in and leaned on the run game!!!

nole come on man that was 2 years ago. vjax aint getting any younger. heck what was it 4 years ago cj2k ran for 2k welp he should do it again right? it doesnt work like that. theres no guarantee our o line will be as good as last year either
