Brate: Jameis Is Accurate

August 8th, 2016
Hails Jameis for accuracy.

Hails Jameis’ accuracy.

Not long ago, a self-proclaimed Paul Brown from the Emerald Isle wrote a hit piece on America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, suggesting Jameis is slightly more accurate than a broken watch.

This thin-skinned leprechaun of a spreadsheeter then went about blocking folks on Twitter who even remotely disagreed with his twisted if not stacked-deck analysis. Hell, Joe has never Twittered the lad before but found himself blocked a few days ago. Such a pity.

(If this numberscruncher is that sensitive, he needs to leave all social media and go hide in one of those dingy Irish pubs.)

After reading the slanted screed that is almost as sad as the potato famine, Joe couldn’t recall one reference to a receiver perhaps running an incorrect route, or that a defender had great coverage, or a linebacker was breathing down Jameis’ neck, or that just maybe, a cornerback took a receiver off his route. No mention of the likelihood Jameis ever waited a second to throw the ball where the Vince Lombardi of the old sod wanted Jameis to throw the ball to, and if he did, Jameis would have been on his back crushed by a defensive lineman.

Quite literally every incompletion — and even some completions!!! — were the fault of Jameis and his alleged inaccurate right wing.

(Nevermind Jameis damned near threw a perfect game — 25 of 27 — in his very first contest in college. How an inaccurate quarterback can pull that off is a mystery to Joe.)

Well, Bucs tight end Cameron Brate would like to have a word with this Michael Collins of stat geeks. Brate, a man who actually catches passes from Jameis, stated today that Jameis is, in fact, accurate.

“Working with Jameis has been awesome,” Brate said today from One Buc Palace. “Just to see his growth from last year to this year. … Just his command of the offense is awesome. Obviously, a great passer and very accurate.”

Well now laddy, what is a Gaelic numberscruncher to do with that? A man who makes a good living catching passes from Jameis refers to him “very accurate?”

Guess it’s time to pull out a bottle of Bushmills. You know, only the shanty would stoop to that vinegar known as Jameson.

Who said that about Jameis? I’ll ruin him!

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jameis still has plenty to prove, and this is all talk until he takes the field. If I recall, we heard all sorts of good things about Josh McCown around this time.

    Fsuking:

    Just Google “jameis inaccurate stats.”

Joe’s not even going to dignify it with a link.

I have commentary for this one on the tip of my tongue but I’ll hold it and refrain.

Nit-picking his game is only going to make him a monster. Trust and believe.

You did a good job on him Joe, hope he reads it. His reader base just shrank.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

I’m confused Joe. What the he!! does a ‘Gaelic numberscruncher’ from the ‘Emerald Isle’ know about American football? And oh ya, why were you even Twittering such a stat geek who doesn’t appreciate Jameis’ greatness?

  9. Brent bull/buc Says:

If jw just stayed the same player he was last year he’d be a good nfl qb and the best in team history. 28 tds total, 4000 tds passing, 58% pct. we had #5 offense. So even if he just stays same that’s good. I want more but I think the defense has to improve. Last year we gave up a ton of points. Too bad teams to like Rams..

    Never did.

  11. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

So funny that you would throw out all those reasons about why Jameis Winston’s accuracy stat might be skewed. Yet you use an even worse statistical measure of passes thrown in Evans direction to criticize him when everyone knows all of the reasons above factor into that, including some inaccurate throws as well. It is odd how biased you seem to be with certain players. Some can’t get any praise while others can’t do anything wrong. just my observation.

  12. BennyBucs Says:

62 % accuracy this season, just watch. His receiving corps
was horribly depleted last season. Not to mention Mike “peanut butter & jelly hands” Evans dropping everything. If they get that deep ball synchronized then things will start to click. The deep ball has to become a main weapon in his arsenal for us to have a chance this season. Seattle, KC, Carolina & Denver will not be a walk in the park. They will try to eliminate the effectiveness of Doug and make us throw.

  13. Wausa Says:

Jameis mid range passing accuracy was elite, his long passes were below average and his short passes were average last year.

If he can bring his long range passes and short passes to the above average and stays elite with the mid range passes he will be a top 5 QB in the NFL this year.

We all hope he gets there this year.

I’m sorry but that’s pathetic and probably one of the most hypocritical things I’ve ever heard of.

If you want to publicly analyze and criticize people for a living then you better be willing to take the public feedback from those who disagree. Otherwise where is the accountability to your work? You want an audience that just mindlessly believes everything you say without any debate / questioning. Wtf is that

I think Joe isn’t too biased honestly. Obviously loves JW but Winston had a top 3 rookie season ever regardless of bias. Joe lauds Mike Evans talent but it’s a fact that he had some of the worst hands last year for any top WR. I love them both but if i had to criticize one based on what they did vs expectations it’d be ME.

  16. Brent bull/buc Says:

For me jameis just has to get better in red zone. He’s already pretty accurate 59% and throwing for good yards 4000. I’d say if he can get up to 30-35 td I’d be satisfied. So he’s close. I bet Winston always throws picks and never goes a lot better than 60-65%. Jw throws the ball down the field and in tight windows. He’ll prob never change, that’s his personality..

  17. Dave Says:

Seeing him in in college and his first year in the pros, he can get amped up at the beginning of games and tends to throw hi, which usually leads to INT s.
Once he settles down and gets his footwork right, he is very accurate. He’s also getting in sync with a bunch of young receivers, so they will be on the same page more often and have less in completions. Not to mention the drops, not just Mike Evans alleged 11 (it was more than that by far), a lot of wrs had drops.
They are all growing and learning. I’d be surprised if he isn’t at 63% + this year

Joe is a funny dude! The number crunching stat geek can look at Joes hand and read between the lines to see why he’s #1, the bird. For those not understanding the middle finger

    @joe
couldn,t find the arcticle,Did find one from Justin Puaski after the Chicago game. here it is,apparently he thinks Jameis has to improve on deep ball accuracy. He also missed evans in the endzone three times in last Carolina
game.Hopefully both he and Evans get on the same page this year.Love
what Jameis did last year and hope to see more.

Not to mention the folks who he has blocked (many!) help drive traffic to his article. What a maroon!

And yes, Joe meant “maroon,” not moron.

  22. drdneast Says:

Most stat geeks just use the pct. completion at the end of the year. Winston’s was 58%.
Most NFL QB’s need to be in the 60% or higher range so we aren’t talking much of a reach.
Winston can be as great as Joe already thinks he is but he has to keep improving his mechanics and his completion pct. will come up.
This isn’t a big deal because if you ask Drew Brees, he will tell you he is always working on his mechanics every day, week and year.
