Jason Licht Says Dirk Koetter Likes To Get Ball Out Quickly

July 28th, 2015

Speaking at a “Town Hall” event hosted by Steve Duemig tonight on WDAE-AM 620, Bucs general manager Jason Licht gave a peek into the Buccaneers offense.

Licht told Duemig to look at Koetter’s history and he’ll see an offensive coordinator that “likes to get the ball out quickly.” And “that will affect how we protect the quarterback,” Licht said.

Interesting. And not surprising.

A swiss cheese offensive line will force a good OC to adjust (hear that word, Lovie Smith?) and move to short dropbacks and maximize the available talent.

The Falcons, Koetter’s team last year, battled a garbage line, and you even saw Julio Jones running his share of wide receiver screens.

The Bucs are in capable hands on offense this season. But you still need a good QB to get anything done in the NFL. Koetter and the Bucs will get a great feel of what they have in Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, in just 19 days, as the Bucs kickoff the preseason in Minnesota.

    Get the ball out quickly when needed sounds good to me. Did we see even one 3 step drop last year? How many quick slants? screens?

    @Pickgrin

    I saw plenty that looked like it but I also saw McClown fail to pull the trigger.

    Give it up Ben. That ship has sailed. We had those debates all winter and even those of us who supported Mariota have come around to become Fameis fans.

    I was not in the room that night and neither were you. As the DA said there was bad judgment that night…by BOTH parties. It’s time to move on.

    If you really, really need something to get cheesed off about and don’t want to talk football then let’s start a Cosby thread. Now there is a sick dude. 35 women and counting so there can be little doubt. He has admitted getting ‘lude scrips to use on these women. I agree with the President. If you give a women drugs and then have non consensual sex because of the use of drugs…that’s rape. Time to move on when it comes to Fameis.

    I can see this gameplan developing in my mind for real. Fast and steady tight quick shorter throws, enough protection to also complete downfield large gains, running game clicking, firing on all cylinders. This Buc offense is about to show marked improvement.

    Wow, I never thought I would see Buddy Hackett and Jason Licht in the same room. Simply Amazing!

    @ 1987 I’m with you bro we both can do this!

  12. Owlykat Says:

    Koetter runs a four vertical offense which needs good blocking for the verticle WRs to get deep. However he shortened the verticles last year for the Falcons because they had a poor OL too so Koetter already knows how to adapt his system for a poor OL, so look for much better production offensively for our Bucs this year. Combine that with a tougher Defense and a true up tempo play by the Offense and we will win a lot of games this year!
