Mike Glennon’s Last StandApril 21st, 2014
Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud believes Mike Glennon is preparing right now for what could be the biggest week of his career — in April.
This morning on WDAE-AM 620, Stroud talked about how the Buccaneers’ first minicamp under Lovie Smith (tomorrow through Thursday) could represent the time Glennon has to prove his value and save his Tampa Bay future.
Stroud made the case that Bucs coaches haven’t had a chance to see Glennon throw and scrutinize all things Glennon in the flesh. He’ll be running plays in shorts-and-helmets workouts this week, and the coaching staff needs to see significant command, per Stroud, to count him in their future.
Stroud said he’s convinced there’s only one reason the Bucs would trade up in the NFL Draft next month, and that is to draft a quarterback. He also is confident, like Joe, that the Bucs will add a promising QB at some point in the draft. So Stroud believes Glennon has a matter of hours to alter the thinking of the Bucs’ hierarchy.
Joe wrote last week about how the minicamp is critical to the futures of many returning Bucs. Glennon could be on the top of the list. Lovie already has said he plans to carry only two quarterbacks on his 53-man roster.
