Leonard Proves He’s An Upgrade

August 24th, 2013

There’s no question in Joe’s mind that Bucs running back Brian Leonard is far more valuable that 2012 third-down back D.J. Ware.

Leonard was at it again tonight, showing he’s a versatile runner, a blend of punisher and hole-finder.

The Bucs were wise to give Doug Martin the night off following a head injury last week.Leonard was tonight’s starter and he finished with 10 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown. He ran hard and successfully in the red zone.

The Bucs’ haven’t had a consistent, versatile short-yardage back since the A-Train wore his No. 40. (No. Earnest Graham had his issues in short yardage). Leonard won’t fill Mike Alstott’s shoes, but he can upgrade that position in a significant way.

    Really Joe?

Just admit it. He’s an upgrade over Blount.

    Let’s not go overboard. –Joe

Thank you. I think Leonard did more than enough to prove we dont need Hillis, a one year wonder, to fill in the slot at #2 RB

LOL Leonard does remind me of a mini Alstott. No I’m not saying he’s on the same level either. I just like how he twists and turns to fight for extra yards. I think he deffo makes the team.

He need to pick up blitzes, anyone can run the ball.

Joe, did you see Blount’s last game? He still has the same flaws at NE, dances in the back field side to side rather than hitting the hole when its there. He also does not follow a full back very well. He wiffs on pass protection, which for Tom Brady and crew will get you put on the bench. I still like LGB but his flaws are almost as large as his plus sides.

Leonard is a solid all around back with a lot of heart, maybe he can share some with free(wo)man.

  7. Tomcin Says:

Imo I think Hillis looked pretty decent to.

  8. Bucfan40 Says:

Hillis looked significantly better than Leonard, again. Brian is nothing special. Grossly overrated by our local media because he plays “with heart”.

    Bull.

Anyone of these guys we have, Leonard, James or Hillis, is an improvement over what we had last year as a backup.
