Allen Bradford Says He’s Got Old-School Style

May 4th, 2011

Joe always loves hearing a young player reference the history of the NFL.

You’ve got to really love the game if you’re a 22-year-old running back and you compare yourself to two of the old-time greats.

Bucs sixth-round pick Allen Bradford, the 5-11, 240-pound manbeast out of Southern Cal, was asked today on WDAE-AM 620 what current NFL running back he most resembles in style. Bradford paused, then said he doesn’t compare himself to any modern backs. He said his style is more like Herschel Walker and Jim Brown, and he’s learned to run and protect his knees.

Joe thought that was very cool.

“I like to attack than be attacked,” Bradford said.

What wasn’t too cool was Joe doing some research on Bradford and learning that he’s got a history of injuries.

But Bradford says he’s healthy and hearty — 9 percent body fat — and ready to show fans why he was given the nickname “monster.”

I was checking him out as well. Seems to me he is insurance for Blount and possibly a FB most the time.

  2. Jrock Says:

What kind of injuries has he had Joe?

He’s a big dude. I wouldn’t want to spend all day tackling Blount, then have this kid run at me in the 4th with fresh legs. Yikes

  3. flmike Says:

    New nickname -“Mr Short Yardage”

  4. Funky Munkey Says:

I think personally we have the power back in Blount and we needed a speedster. But, this kid can help punish the D along with Blount. So by the 4th quarter D Lines should be ready for the lockerroom after hitting those two all game.

But who knows if he will even make the team or play at all. We def. need a speed back to cause DC’s nightmares to go along with Blount, and our passing game!!!

  5. WeNeedDefense Says:

This guy will at the very least be a lead blocker for Blount. That’s what we needed, a lead blocker.

  6. sunrisejeff Says:

Totally agree flmike. This guy could be perfect for those times like the Atlanta game when we need that 3rd or 4th and 1. He gets low and initiates the contact which is perfect for short yardage situations.

  7. CharlieB Says:

Is there any indication this guy can block? Just because he’s big does not mean he would make a good blocking back. Earnest Graham’s versatility has spoiled us.

    Joe here,

@CharlieB – Yes, Joe will have more on your question/topic tomorrow.

  9. WeNeedDefense Says:

Watch the highlight videos of the other HBs and look for Bradford’s number as the blocking back

  10. RastaMon Says:

I have not read very far into this page….I post….If Bradford was a “productive” RB on the collegiate PRACTICE FIELD @ RB University….everyone would have know WhoTF he was/is….
Here is hoping he is a Sunday player..

  11. WeNeedDefense Says:

He could have spent most of his time blocking.

  12. BucFanFromLa Says:

I like the idea of having two bruising backs. I still wouldn’t mind having a change of pace back though…maybe we pick up a UFA like Derrick Locke.

  13. dimitrios Says:

    @admin @CharlieB he can block in this play… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MlDrF8t3vM

  14. Tom Says:

Well Bradford was a top 10 player coming out of high school according to sites like Rivals, and like many top players went to USC.

Five years later he barely made a blip on their stat books. If he’s anything more than marginal I’ll be surprised but he does have size and strength going for him.

  15. dimitrios Says:

usc had 3 5star rbs in front of him

  16. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I have heard Kiffin put in a good word for him, and we can always use a short yardage back. Let’s see what he can do ?

  17. Weneedefense Says:

Here are some 2009 highlights… The guy is a nice RB idk what you guys say.

  18. Chris FWC :) Says:

I hope he works out however they use his skills. I hope he can show Blount how to hit a hole on short yardage.

  19. Funky Munkey Says:

If we could pick up Derrick Locke as an undrafted rookie, wow that would be sweet. He won’t have a LeGarrett Blount type rookie season. But I could def. see 500 yards and maybe 4 TDs. Which by most people standards would be above average. Don’t know how this kid went undrafted. Also, sign Kendrick Burney at CB to add depth there. He could end up being a great nickel CB and possibly a starter 2-3 years down the road!

And, did Terrence Tolliver, the WR out of LSU get drafted?? If he didn’t, he has the talent to be a very solid # 3 or #4 option at WR for us. Williams, Benn, Briscoe, and this kid!!!
